Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Increased oxygen pressure in closed container used to treat decompression sickness, infection, and other states of low oxygen in the tissues
Question: What Is The Cost Of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? I would like to know what the cost of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is? I asked this question before, but no one answered the question.
Instead, everyone either explained what hyperbaric oxygen treats or they just dodged the question.
I know what hyperbaric oxygen is all about and I do not need any explanation. All I would like to know is what the cost of hyperbaric oxygen is. Thank you.
Answer: I'm sure it varies but here are some links below that give prices.
Looks like $100+ and up for a daily treatment.
Or you could buy a unit for about $14k.
Question: I would like to know the cost of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in India? somebody please guide me with the cost of Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy in India per session.
Answer: The total cost per child of eight months of MMT, inclusive of Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy for 40 sessions, comes to about Indian Rs.2.4 lakhs (About US $6000), depending on therapeutic modes availed of.. However, we offer substantial subsidy (40 to 50%, rarely more in exceptional cases) to Indian children with the help of donations / sponsorships / aid received. For details, see http://www.udaan.org/multimode/cost.html
Question: Has anyone ever heard of hyperbaric oxygen therapy? I have been looking into it for my son. He has cerebral palsy. I've heard that it helps the brain. I'm just wondering if there's anyone who has used this therapy and if it has worked of at least helped a little bit.
Answer: It's actually not an alternative medicine. Hyperbaric therapy is simply increasing the oxygen available to the body under a certain amount of pressure. I've heard it as effective for wound care and other ailments. It's also used for treating bends, when a diver returns to the surface too quickly.
There was a recent study of this theapy for children with CP, and the results were mixed, and some acrimony seems to exist between reviewers and researchers.
It's worth at least spending some time looking into.
Question: Does anyone know anything about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? I had cancer of the tongue and neck and went through extensive radiation treatments to the head. Now my teeth have to be removed and they say I have to go through Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment and I was wondering if anyone has had this procedure or knows anything about it.
Answer: My father went through this procedure. He's diabetic, and one of his toes got infected. The infection spread to the bone, and they thought that he'd have to have his toe and part of his foot amputated. However, after using hyperbaric therapy, he was able to keep his toe.
This might be a good treatment for you, I hope so.
Question: Can Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy make us age slower? Some people say it could. Others say there is no evidence for such. Anyone know of any realistic studies done?
Answer: Oh you'll never find a realistic study on anti-aging with hyperbaric oxygen or any other therapy. So let's go totally surreal. One Hundred Years of Solitude surreal.
Last month a group from LSU in New Orleans shared the results of a butterfly experiment. Yes, butterflies. What a great idea, huh? Lifespans in hyperbaric oxygen were pretty much normal for the caterpillar and chrysalis stages but quite longer than normal for the imago: 19.4 days with HBO versus 14 days average in nature.
This particular group of winged insects lived 38.5% longer in a hyperbaric oxygen habitat. Fascinating. But you and I can probably count on better results with a healthy diet, regular exercise, and plenty of sleep.
Question: How effective is the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in elderly patients with diabetes?
Answer: Quite effective i would say.
Questionable is whether to put an elderly patient through the ordeal of going hyperbaric though.
TITLE: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in diabetic foot.
Author: Doctor N ; Pandya S ; Supe A
Abstract: To study the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in chronic diabetic foot lesions, a prospective controlled study was undertaken. Thirty diabetics with chronic foot lesions were randomised to study group (conventional management and 4 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy) and control group (conventional management). The patients were assessed for average hospital stay, control of infection and wound healing. The control of infection spread was quicker. Positive cultures decreased from initial 19 to 3 in study group as against from 16 to 12 in the control group. (p < 0.05). This difference was most pronounced for Escherichia coli. Also, the need for major amputation was significantly less in the study group (n = 2) as against the control group (n = 7) (p < 0.05). The average hospital stay was not affected. We conclude that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be safely used and is beneficial as an adjuvant therapy in chronic diabetic foot lesions.

Question: How much does it cost for HYPERBARIC OXYGEN therapy? sorry for the annoying capital letter, i just copied and pasted.
i need to know the cost, i think my brother might need it. and my mother, possibly me and my father too.
Answer: A HYPERBARIC OXYGEN therapy (HBOT) session can cost from $100 to $200 in private clinics, to over $1,000 in some hospitals.
What you need it for? Medicare may cover or reimburse the cost if the diagnosis for application of HBOT is one of those approved by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS).
Question: How do get certified to do hyperbaric oxygen therapy? What schooling do you need?
Answer: The highest certification is through preventive medicine board certification or emergency medicine board certification with specialization in hyperbaric oxygen

Question: How long did it take you to notice effects from hyperbaric oxygen therapy? For either yourself, or your child with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. I have Asperger's, and have done 4 "dives" so far. Thanks so much! We are noticing positive changes in my daughter (she's 2), but not too much in me as of yet. http://americanaspergersassociation.net *incase you don't know what Asperger's is*
Answer: Dear fapprez,
I think I missed a question in between here somewhere. Thank you for making me a contact. I'm in the process of setting up a portable hyperbaric chamber in our home - struggling with the oxygen concentrator assembly and hookup at this point! We are on a rent-to-own program with Healing Dives, probably the most reasonably-priced array of portables, and Diane, the contact person, is wonderful. There is even a group on Yahoo which she moderates - people ask each other all kinds of questions about hyperbaric therapy. The least expensive unit is the Mini, which costs about $7000, as I recall. We got a Shallow Dive, which accommodates two adults, and that costs quite a bit more. I'm really looking forward to using it soon. In the meantime, if you want more information about reaching Diane, who can answer many, many questions for you, please do e-mail me through Yahoo - just click on my picture, then click on email, send your message, and it will come to me.
Very best wishes!
Dear fapprez, I'll put my little update in here because you don't accept emails! The web site for Dr. Harch is actually www.harchhyperbarics.com - I had left the "s" off. So very glad you can have use of the oxygen chamber!! So glad that your daughter is benefiting! My husband and I went into our Shallow Dive tonight for the first time, now that the correct hose is here. We still don't have the oxygen concentrator working. We weren't in for more than 15 minutes, as I couldn't get my right ear to unplug. But I think it helped us, although I probably decompressed too fast - we were both a little tipsy afterward. But it probably wasn't too compressed because I'd kept opening the release valve, trying to get my ears fixed. Hope you'll let me know how it goes for you - click on my avatar, and you can email me. God bless!
Question: Has anyone undergone Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for cancer? I was wondering how effective is this?
My friend is dying from cancer and nothing seems to be working for her.
Answer: I'm sorry to hear about you friend.
High-pressure (hyperbaric) oxygen is used to treat deep sea divers suffering from decompression sickness and smoke inhalation, and to help treat several other conditions.
It has not been shown to have any value against cancer.

Question: Would hyperbaric oxygen therapy help my oseomyelitis in my jaw and what is the cost in Australia? I had surgery on my jaw 3 yrs ago when i had osteomyelitis and it healed up ok but now it has come back and the gum tissue has broken down. i want to avoid more surgery if i can so I am wondering if this might do the trick
Answer: The source below says that hyperbaric oxygen can be a helpful adjunct to other treatment for osteomyelitis. I don't know how many hyperbaric chambers there are in Australia, nor how much it would cost, but it would certainly be worth looking into. Good luck, and I hope you get better soon.
Question: Can the hyperbaric oxygen therapy helps to reduce the tolerance to glucose ( diabetes type 2 ) ? My current glucose level is among 110 to 120 in blood after 12 hours of ayune. Hence my dad was diabetic, I want to search alternative methods to prevent the glucose level going up to 126 or plus, though I'm currently under treatment of Metformina 750 slow release for about 4 months already.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Yes, I actually mean " tolerance to insulin " Thanks
Answer: You mean insulin resistance, not glucose.
Yes, it can help.
But if you want to get your numbers down, eat a better diet and exercise for 30 continuous minutes every day. This can be a simple as walking briskly.
Avoid fat, like pizza and french fries. They can elevate blood sugars for days.
Eat several small meals every day, about 5-6 of them evenly spread throughout the day, and avoid eating after 6pm.
Stay from wheat products, high fructose corn syrup, honey, sugar, spaghetti. all junk food.
Eat a diet low in fat and high in protein.
1 cup of pecans or walnuts will keep blood sugars lower and provide nearly 1/2 of your daily calories that you need.
Go easy on the carbs during breakfast. During that time, your liver wants to dump glucose into your blood and added carbs will cause higher blood sugar levels.
A reasonable diet and regular exercise can help you a lot, and don't forget the water! Drink lots of it throughout the day.
Question: Has anyone heard of a treatment for diabetics called Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? Are there any locations in TX?
I recently heard that this was a new treatment being used to help diabtics who have had surgery heal faster. I had never heard of such a thing and was wanting some feedback.
Thank you all for your answers I get the general idea now - blaze 23 thanks for the list of locations and alex F I would love to see that book. Thanks again
Answer: Short answer would be yes, however I don't think it's that great an idea.
I downloaded this book online a few days ago and read it
(http://www.amazon.com/Hydrogen-Peroxide-…
But basically, in one section it was explained how oxygenating the blood could help fix diabetes, along with boosting the bodies ability to heal itself. The author then made the claim that the hyperbaric oxygen chamber approach is preferred for treatment since it costs 5000 times as much as getting peroxide put into the bloodstream, but is not actually better (and possibly worse, although it does work).
If you want the proper/full version of the explanation I'd be happy to send you the book :P
Question: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for autism, dose any one know if this works? Im looking for people that have tried this treatment for a child that has autism and what were the results? was it worth the money, how much improvment did you see?
Answer: No, but knowing a little about autism, I have serious doubts as to its possible efficacy.
I suggest that you view http://your-mental-health.8m.com/blank_2… about autism.
Google: "autism; chat sites + forums" and ask there, where you are more likely to receive answers.
Question: Will medicade pay for Hyperbaric oxygen therapy ? My father suffered a horriable , left hemisphere stroke ..Okay medicade kicked him out of his rehab /nursing home center .
The said he wasnt getting well fast enough ..He wasnt even there 3 week weeks...I'm hoping we can get them to pay for hbot..He has skin tears every where , i heard it heals wonds as well ....How do we go about getting him hbot treatment and billinh medicade ?
Answer: Except the bends and severe cases of carbon monoxide poisoning, HBO hasn't been shown definitely beneficial in other disorders, so it's unlikely any insurer will pay for it.
Question: Has anyone ever had Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for necrosis of the brain done?
Answer: Necrosis is dead tissue, and hyperbaric treatment will not make it regenerate.
Truthfully, I worked at a hyperbaric center in their outpatient rehab clinic, where many families had turned for help as a last resort. Many of the patients had severe to profound brain injury (lots of brain necrosis). After 2-3 months of hyperbaric O2 treatment 6 days per week (at $200 per treatmnent), very few showed measurable improvement. Most (better than 90%, in my estimation), only gained one level on the Rancho Los Amigos Brain Injury Scale, if that. The ones who did the best had only mild to moderate symptoms at the onset of treatment.
I finally left the job after realizing the guy who ran it only wanted to pad his pockets. I still don't list it on my resume.
Question: Does hyperbaric oxygen therapy make stem cells grow?
Answer: I don't know...but I bet pd knows!!!!
Question: Is hyperbaric oxygen therapy covered by insurance?
Answer: Right now, it's only an approved treatment for a very few conditions: decompression sickness, gangrene, brain abscess, air bubbles in the blood, and injuries in which tissues are not getting enough oxygen.
So if it's for one of these conditions, most likey yes, but you'll have to call the number on the back of your card to find out for sure.
If it's for one of the "off list" purposes, like treatment of allergies, or killing off microbes, then no.
Question: does anybody know about hyperbaric oxygen therapy? any person in coma after head injury regained consciousness after under going hyperbaric oxygen therapy? where is it done in india?
Answer: Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) is oxygen at high pressure. Air contains nearly 21% oxygen, and more than 78% nitrogen. In hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO), the oxygen percentage breathed by the patient is nearly or actually 100%, ie almost five times more than in air. The pressure of the oxygen breathed by the patient in HBO is usually more than 1.5 times (and can be as much as 3 times) greater than atmospheric pressure. So, HBOT can deliver to the patient nearly fifteen times as much oxygen as there is in air at normal pressure.
The extra oxygen is breathed in through the lungs, and dissolved in the blood plasma: it is then delivered to any part of the body with a good blood supply. The effects of this extra oxygen are different in different parts of the body: in some medical conditions it can save life, and in others it can promote healing and tissue repair.
It is also possible to have too much oxygen in the blood stream, which can lead to unwanted effects. So, HBO is like any other medicine or drug, with indications and contra-indications, correct doses, and potential side-effects. Even though it is given in an unusual way, HBOT should not be seen as a miracle cure, or a sensational new discovery. It is a rational treatment in some medical conditions; but its benefits should not be over-estimated. Much has been made in the past of the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen in medical conditions where there is no evidence that it works. In fact, though, there is enough evidence that it works in some medical conditions to encourage the development of more treatment centres than there already are.
Please contact K. E. M. Hospital, India for more resources on treatment
Question: Did anybody try hyperbaric oxygen therapy? Does it help your memory? I know it helps to heal but I have epilepsy and bad memory, did anybody experience it? What are side effects?
Answer: As far as I am aware it has no effects with epilespy or a bad memory. It's only good for CO posioning and healing wounds.
