Question: Is there a topical spray or cream for dogs to ease skin irritation from seasonal allergies? My 2 yr old springer spaniel has seasonal allergies. Food allergy as been ruled out. He receives monthly cortisone shots and daily benedryl to control but he can still get quite red and irritated on belly and chest at times; and always after a bath. Scratching and licking causes hair loss. Is there any safe topical sprays to use during severe outbreaks?
Answer: I note that you have ruled food allergies out, nevertheless the experts now say that we should NEVER FEED GRAIN. I shower my dog with warm water when she gets dirty, however I don't use shampoo. She smells and looks clean and gets a proper bath about once a year. If your dog has problems after a bath, don't bath him.
I will copy the info that I have on grain free foods. In all of this remember that vets want dogs to have shots and medications thats how they make their profits. PLEASE DO CONSIDER A CHANGE OF DIET AND PERHAPS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO STOP THE MEDICATION.
•I have learnt by my mistakes. My present dog had dreadful problems because of the food which I gave her, I experimented with dog food, I tried raw diets, cooked diets and over the years I tried various dog foods. She did not like the raw diets and the dog food that I gave her resulted in diarrhea. As an experienced dog owner I introduced any changes gradually. Nevertheless my dog still had problems. She was eight years old before I resolved her problem.
Eventually, because of my researches on the Internet I found that the experts have discovered that GRAIN in our dog’s diet causes many problems. I now know that grain creates acidity in the blood. This causes skin problems, sickness, diarrhea, anal gland problems etc.,
if your dog has skin problems or any of the above problems PLEASE CHANGE THE DIET. Avoid Grain, rice, beef derivatives and dairy food
I now give my dog a dried food which uses beet for fiber and fish. It’s called Fish4Dogs and I buy it on the Internet. Look on the Internet and investigate yourself. Gluten free dog food is not enough to help our dogs, it MUST BE GRAIN FREE.
A rapid change of diet will upset your dog; any change of diet must be done gradually. Do please change to a grain free diet. I have had sixteen dogs throughout the years and they have had various problems. Perhaps if I had known about the dangers of GRAIN they would have had fewer problems.
EDIT, I DO HOPE THAT YOU TRY SOMETHING GRAIN FREE, HOWEVER IF YOU WANT TO TRY A TOPICAL SPRAY, COLLOIDAL SILVER IS EXCELLENT. .
Question: What is the best topical flea treatment available? I have two cats with fleas. Baths, spraying and regular cleaning of the house haven't fixed the problem. Before I break down and bug bomb the house, I thought I would try a topical treatment. But what one do I get? Frontline, Advantage, Revolution? Any suggestions?
Answer: Ive alwasy had GREAT luck w Advantage.....depends too on the life style of your cats...are they indoor/outdoor, strictly indoor, strictly ourdoor? If they are strictly indoor Id go w the Advantage because it is made w less chemicals than the ones that fight fleas, ticks, MOsquitos etc etc......even though these products are tested safe they are in fact pesticides & need to be used the way the directins say to use them......think of it this way, the more things it kills the more chemicals are in it....hence the more dangerous if could possibly be to your pet....Advantage only works on fleas & it works well if they stay insode Id chooses that...if they go outside too get them on a heartworm preventative & Id use Frontline...Ive heard Zodiac is AWEFUL(from my Mom who works for a vet) & Ive heard some nasty things about Revolution too....bet of luck♥
Question: What is a Topical Application when refering to a bandage or wound? I have to state one condition when a Topical Application could be used to prevent a animal patient from interfering with a bandage and/or wound?!
What is a Topical Application when refering to a bandage or wound?
Answer: sounds like it would be one of those sprays you can buy to keep an animal from licking its wound or scratching the bandage off.
Question: What topical medication ( ointment or cream) is good for chronic and stubborn eczema on the hand? I work in the hospital as a nurse. I now use the powder-free gloves. For years,I had a chronic case of eczema to my right hand on only 2 particular spots. It itches and flakes up like crazy. I have seen the dermatologist and was given an ointment but the eczema is stubborn for years. Is there any homeopathic herbal or pharmaceutical topical medications recommended? Any other suggestions?
Answer: Hylobatizol, not sure of the spelling, it eradicated my eczema.
Question: What are the risks of using topical corticosteroids like Diprosone cream during pregnancy? I've been using a topical ointment called Diprosone cream whenever I get skin inflammations. Now I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I've read just recently that this medicine has no evidence of safety for pregnant women. Now I'm so afraid what might happen to my baby. Anyone who's aware?
Answer: call your pharmacy. The Pharmacist can tell you for sure. Good luck and congrats.
Question: What is the best place to apply topical medications? I need to apply topical magnesium and other medications/supplements since they give me a stomach ache when taken orally. So, what is the best place to apply them for maximum absorption - stomach, shoulders, arms, other?
Please let me know. Thanks.
Note - It's not for the skin.
Answer: Even though, I had the same type of problem doesn’t mean our problem was the same. My doctor recommended three solutions based on the outcome of the previous treatment until we found what worked for me.
Since you are only asking about application points I tried to research thru OSHA which areas of the skin are the most susceptible to chemical absorption. From what I read most of the skin is of the same thickness with the exceptions of the heals and areas of calluses. Some chemicals can instantly pass thru the skin right into the blood system while others have to be massaged for a while to dissipate into the skin.
I would ask my doctor his recommendations and while you’re at it you might bring up some of my other suggestions.
I have also read, that side affects act differently depending on the type of application. Speaking of allergies, in this case, here is a cut from a website to exemplify my comments.
“One of the benefits of sublingual immunotherapy is that patients can administer the drops to themselves at home. While side effects can occur, prior studies of sublingual immunotherapy suggest that this form of treatment will prove safer than standard allergy shots.”
1) Topical Medication. I was told to rub a cream from under my breast to just above the navel and on the sides up to a line where your arms hang freely. I was also told to rub the cream on the backside of my arms in the triceps area. That did not help to much
2) Sublingual, So we went to a sublingual medication that is placed under the tongue for absorption. It worked a little better.
3) Then we tried muscular injections. I was instructed on the proper way of self injection once every week.
Lots of luck,
Question: Which acne topical medicine has the best result and is the fastest acting? I have been struggling for years with tough acne that are sometimes the big red inflamed ones, which hurt, and the other small red ones on my forehead, chin, cheeks and nose. I have gone to the Dermotologist many times and have been on many pills, and topical medicines that have not been helpful to me. I cannot be on antibiotics because I have asthma, and it will trigger it. Help, I am fed up with my acne!
Answer: Do tell me that's my answer benefits you. Please do not take too much acne medicine it will harm more to you. This is my tips for you to overcome your acne problem.
Acne treatment for your acne should be accompanied by a healthy skin care routine.
Wash the affected area twice a day with mild soap. Use soap such as Dove, or one that contains benzoyl peroxide, such as Oxy-5. Wash as often necessary to keep the area clean. Do not scrub.
Shampoo the hair regularly.
Keep long hair off the face and shoulders and wash it daily.
Avoid shaving as much as possible; while shaving take care to avoid nicking the pimples.
Use a fresh shaving blade to minimize the chance of spreading the infection.
Avoid use of make-up or cosmetics in areas prone to acne. If you have to wear make-up, use only the hypoallergenic or fragrance free kind.
Don't pop, pick, scratch, or squeeze your pimples. This may cause infection and scarring.
You may use an over-the-counter treatment that contain substances such as benzoyl peroxide (gel or cream) or salicyclic acid. Start with the lowest strength and apply once a day about half an hour after washing. Never use more than 5 percent strength without consulting a physician.
Food and Nutrition Recommendations for Acne:Some doctors believe that acne is not a food related problem. Some alternate practitioners use diet as a basis for their treatment of acne. They recommend that acne patients should eat foods high in beta-carotene, such as carrots, pumpkin, cantaloupe and other yellow-orange fruits and vegetables. They should also avoid fatty foods. Acnezine controls the oil secretion in your body to protect your skin from getting acne prone.
Vitamin Therapy for Acne:Nutritionists generally suggest:Chromium supplements - Chromium helps boosts the body's ability to break down glucose.Vitamin A - reduces sebum and keratin production. (Caution: taking mega doses of Vitamin A can cause headaches, fatigue, muscle and joint pain and other side effects. Consult a qualified practitioner before taking mega supplements).Vitamin E - an antioxidant (200 to 400 IU a day).Vitamin B-6 50 mg per day. This vitamin aids in the metabolism of hormones and supports the function of Acnezine as well.
Note: People should not try to medicate themselves or others with any of the methods referred to here without the guidance of a qualified practitioner who is thoroughly familiar with both the remedies and the individual’s medical status.
Question: What would you consider to be the best topical flea control for dogs and cats? Im looking for a good topical to rid my indoor/outdoor dogs and indoor cats of fleas. Something that is waterproof.
Answer: I recommend Advantage. It is one of the safest topical treatments you can get. (It is the only one approved for ferrets, rabbits, pregnant/lactating females and very young animals who are both much more chemical sensitive.) It is also waterproof.
Question: do you need a topical flea and tick medication to pair with sentinel ? I am ready to purchase heartworm and flea and tick medication for the next 6 months for my dogs. I have a maltese and a yorkie. I read that sentinel is good, but I am wondering if I will need topical medications for flea and tick on top of that. I have been using heartgard and K9 Advantix, but the sentinel are smaller tablets so its easier for them to take.
Answer: Sentinel is basically a flea birth control, if a female bites a dog on Sentinel, she will be sterilized, and will not be able to lay any more eggs (the catch is she still has to bite the dog, and if the dog has FAD which is an allergic reaction to flea saliva, then this is not ideal). This does an ok job if you are not at a high risk for fleas. Will not treat an active flea infestation. Personally, my dog is on sentinel year round, and then in the summer to fall months he is also on frontline or advantix, both of which also kill the adult flea and the eggs, an addition to protecting against ticks, which sentinel does not.
Commenting on ease of taking, I have a picky 50 lb dog, and truthfully I have a heck of a time giving him his Sentinel. He ate Interceptor and Heartgard with no problems, but I think since it is more of a flavor coated tablet, it is more difficult to give. But if your dog is not picky like mine, then you might have better luck.
Question: Has anyone used a topical solution for hair loss in women that they have found results with? I am interested in using a topical cream for hair loss in women, however I would like some feedback on some good choices. Thank you!
Answer: Nope, sorry
Question: What are the risks from topical steroid cream for Phimosis? I was wonder what, if any, the risks are from using a topical cream to take care of phimosis. Or if it works at all. And if it does I was wondering if anyone knew if it was less painful than pulling the foreskin down, which I find is really hard to keep doing.
Answer: Has the cream been prescribed for this specific reason? If so then I would assume the doctor who prescribed it would know that it was safe. Topical steriods are safe if used at the correct dosage but I can't see how a steriod cream will help with this problem?
If you are having problems then maybe you need to think about circumcision?
Question: Should I stop using a topical acne medication if my face has become dry? Lately I have been using topical acne treatment where the main parts of my acne were (T-zone), and after about a week of using the medication, the acne has significantly cleared up. Even though, every time I wash my face I can see that the places where I used the medication have become dry and somewhat flakey. Seeing this I used a acne-preventing moisturizer and that helps during the day but my skin is still dry after I wash it. Should I still continue this routine?
Answer: You can use astringent to get rid of the flakes, but be gentle about it because it might sting. If you could possibly lessen the usage, you should. Also, you might be able to get away with just dabbing your pimples with the medication so that it doesn't damage the blemish-free skin around it.
Question: How long do I need to wait to apply a different topical flea medication? I tried Sentry on my 2 cats a week and a half ago to get rid of a flea problem in my apartment - in the past this has worked but this time it didn't. How long do you think I need to wait to apply a different topical treatment? I plan on buying Advantage this time. Do I need to wait a full month?
Answer: 30 days.
Next time use Frontline and Capstar together and it WILL solve the problem.
You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus at drsfostersmith.com . The Capstar will kill all the fleas on your cat almost instantly and the frontline will prevent re-infestation. Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline (or advantage, revolution, promeris, etc.) is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of those three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you Capstar add on the Frontline Plus and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline. Refrontline every 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.
Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.
You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four (4) weeks of age. Package of 6.
Question: Are topical acne creams supposed to make your acne worse before it gets better? My dermatologist prescribed me a topical acne cream a couple weeks ago, and I've been breaking out more since I've started using it.
Is the acne supposed to get worse before it gets better?
And about how long does it take before it starts getting better?
Answer: well my friend you should know that acne treatments are weak acids and work by getting rid of the keratin layers of skin so the redness and irritation is normal it also take long time to see results so not quit until your doctor tells u that u can read this nice article about acne here http://teensandhealth.blogspot.com/2009/…
Question: Which topical flea treatment to use on my cat if my dog licks her? I have two indoor cats and a dog. It's ok for me to use Revolution on the dog and not worry about the cats because the cats will not lick the dog and would run away from him whenever possible. However the dog will lick the cat when he gets the chance to. I have heard that topical flea treatments for cats might be poisonous to dogs, which ones though? Also can cats use Program in conjuction with Advantage?
Answer: If you keep your cats separated from your dog until the product is completely dry (a few hours), then it's fine for your dog to lick them. Revolution is waterproof once dry and won't come off when licked.
Actually, it's dog flea treatments that can be poisonous to cats - they are much more sensitive to the pestiside products than dogs are. There are some dog treatments that should not be used in households with cats because the treatment might rub off on the cat through contact. I am not aware of any treatment for cats that is not safe for dogs, too.
Many times different veterinary flea treatments can be combined because their mechanisms of action are so different. I believe it is safe to combine Program and Advantage - but your vet should confirm this for you.
Question: Is Duac Topical Gel a good product to use on your acne? I was just wondering if duac topical gel was a good product to use on my acne. If not, what product would be good to use on acne?
Answer: It worked great for my friend!
When I hung out with her, her acne made her really self conscious, and I could feel her acting different.
She got the Duac gel and immediately the results started coming in.
I saw her the next week and I was like "Whoaaaa"
She just has some scars left <33333
I'm happy for her.
Good luck!
Question: How can one overdose on topical solutions? I just had a look at the Betadine pamphlet and it has a section about overdosing. Can you really overdose on topical solutions?
Betadine is a topical anti-septic solution.
Answer: Any topical solution applied to the skin in large amounts can result in overdose - it is absorbed into the bloodstream, particularly if there is occlusion. One example is Lidocaine. Someone applied it to the entire lower legs and then covered them up. It overloads the kidneys and liver. Not to mention, in the case of lidocaine cardiac arrest.
Question: What are some topical treatments for broken blood vessels on one's face? I don't have rosacea, and the the little red lines aren't from sun damage, they're from scratching at/picking at acne. What are some topical treatments that can diminish them? And yes, I don't pick at the zits anymore-sins of my youth.
Answer: pete, there's nothing you can apply to your skin that will minimize these tiny broken blood vessels. A dermatologist can "zap" them to oblivion, but it may take multiple treatments.
Question: Can you get a vaginal yeast infection from using topical antibiotics on your face? I've been using Clindamycin topical antibiotics on my face for acne, for a few weeks, and I think I might have a vaginal yeast infection. Can the two be related?

Question: What is a good topical cream for irritation after 2 weeks of breast reduction surgery? I want to know a topical cream for post breast reduction surgery that has red irritation 2 weeks post op.
Thanks!
Answer: after my bandage was removed and the remaining stitched that did not dissolve were taken out, my doctor put surgerical paper tape over the scar lines. the first week, he glued them on, after that, i was to change them every few days for 6 weeks. i just had my 9 month post surgery appt and unless you were looking very closely, you wouldn't even be able to tell i had scar lines. they healed very nicely, flat, and thin.
at an appt, i asked about mederma, but he said i wouldn't need it. he was right.
