Ear Surgery
Pinning back of prominent ears or reducing and reshaping overly large or malformed ears; also called otoplasty
Question: ear surgery? Hi
My husband had surgery in his left ear a couple of weeks ago.
He is wanting to go back to work next Monday, (He is a plasterer) but needs something to protect his ear. The ear muffs he as hurts his ear. So i was wondering if anyone knows of something i could buy to protect his ear for the first couple of week of going back to work.
Thankyou for any info.
Answer: To be honest id say stay away from plastering until it healed completely! Sand and cement for rendering burns skin and cause dermititis so does skim coat!! even with protection id stay away from it until its fully healed!
Question: Ear surgery? My ears stick out very far and are very large so i am planning on getting surgery. I was just wondering how long I would have to take off of work for. See the problem is i don't want anyone to know that I got the surgery. I was just wondering if there are any quick, easy procedures to pin the ears up. If theres not a quick way, Im only 17 and i work about 5 hours a day and its not very strenuous work so i was wondering how long i would need to be off my feet. thanks!
Answer: I HAD THIS DONE.... and I had them pinned back and I had a little bit of extra cartilage put in. The thing is you have a cast around your head (or at least I did for about a week) but, they may have improved the system since I had it done. I had it done 4 years ago and I am so glad that I did it. I am 17 too and I honestly say, take at least three days off. I know its a pain but you will need it. I remember how it kind of hurt and I could NOT sleep (even on medication) for the first few nights. It wore me out. Another thing is that it kind of leaks blood and fluids out of the cast, so you don't really want to display this in public, and they put this really greasy fluid in your hair to hold it back. I promise you, that you shouldn't go out in public for at least a weak. And besides, you don't want to catch an infection. If you are going to do, get it done right, its better to miss a week at once, than if you get your ears infected and have to miss off and on. I know what a pain it is to get your schedule changed, but you will be thankful that you did it.
Good Luck and enjoy your new look!
Question: What is a rough cost estimate for ear surgery? I have a Cholesteatoma, the presence of which was discovered during my entry processing into the military. I was denied entry until I have this "tumor" removed. It is not waiverable and I don't have insurance to cover this. What I need to know is how much it's going to cost and if there are ways of paying for something like this without insurance or a large amount of upfront money. I will also need reconstructive surgery on that ear, but I can get a waiver for my hearing loss as long as the Cholesteatoma is removed, from there I can use the military insurance for any other surgeries. Any help would be much appreciated.
Answer: Im sorry to hear about this. Well just to let you know that there is medicare out there for people who qualify. If your low income meats the qualifications you can get money for free. If I were you I would find a place that you can get some insurance. Any sugery is costly. Just to spend the night in the hospital its 2000 dollars alone. Also is this something that has to be removed? Or does it not affect any thing. You mite want to concider is going into the service is worth all the recovery time and money you have to do to get this removed. Im sorry about your trouble I wish I could help. Check on the Medicare thing.
Question: How long does it take for my hearing to come back after ear surgery? I had surgery on the 25th of January, and right now i'm kinda paranoid about if my hearing is gonna come back.
If it means anything, My doctor had to remove some cancer from my ear, Don't know the name of it, All i know is that it starts with a C and it's long, And they had to remove it, Plus, They have to tinker with my eardrum thankfully.
If anyone has any insight on how long til i get my hearing back would be much appreciate.
Answer: 4-8 weeks at best
Question: How do i persrade my mum that i need ear surgery? How do i persrade my mum that i need ear surgery, she thinks my ears dont stick out but they do, they are huge and they stick out
Answer: uh so? no one cares, everyone has emabrrassing things about their body and no one really truly cares. a hint: wear your hair over your ears
Question: Help i need ear surgery to become a model? Some people say i would make a great model, practicaly everyone, the thing is my ears a huge and they stick out, how do i raise the money for ear surgery , i have a job which only makes a tiny bit of money.
Answer: Another body obsessed person.
Question: How do I go about getting ear surgery?? I have ear piercings from when I was a baby and the holes will not close at this point. My aunt pierced them and the dumb b**** did them unevenly - so I feel like I am scarred for life. I am a little insecure about it and I can't wear earrings because it makes the unevenness quite obvious. Would it be considered cosmetic surgery to get the holes closed? How do I go about this? Would my HMO cover the costs? Please help me!
Answer: A NEW PIRCING WHERE THE OLD HOLE IS NOT SEEN BY THE NEW EARING IS BETTER. BUT HAVE AN EXPERT EVALUATE THIS.
Question: When should I relax my hair again after ear surgery? I had ear surgery almost two months ago and the scar is behind my ear close to my hairline. I'm sure the chemicals will get on the scar so that is why I am asking. Or if there is a way to do it or have it done that it won't get on the scar.
Answer: You can still relax your hair, I would say go to the pharmacy and get a Tagaderm patch. It's like a clear bandaid that is waterproof and extremely sticky. It's meant to stand up to alot of water. Most people use it on fresh scars to keep germs out. Apply it directly on the scar but be careful not to get any hair caught under it (besides whats already there).
Question: Can i have ear surgery, nose surgery, and forehead surgery on the NHS? I mean cosmetic surgery. My looks are making me really suicidal and make me lack self confidence. My ears stick out and our a horrible shape. My nose is huge and is crocked, and my forehead is very very large.
Answer: You can get it done on the NHS, but first i think they will send you through a counselling process. It WONT be a quick fix, they have to take you through various assessments etc, before they make a decision.
Speak to your GP, and explain how you are feeling. Bear in mind, this might be an uphill struggle. Sad to say, but some GPs dont acknowledge depression and the causes of it as real, and they have a "get a grip" attitude. The reason i say this, is fight for what you want, and push for it. You need to know your rights and be armed with knowledge before you go.
One last thing... I am sure.. Absolutely sure you are beautiful. Low self esteem can make the most attractive people feel like dirt. Even if you had the most perfect face, you would still hate what you looked at. In that sense.. the counselling isnt always a bad thing.....
Good luck.
Question: had ear surgery and theres yellow stuff coming out of my ear? i had the surgery on monday, now it's saturday and it seems to hurt more than it did before and theres yellow stuff drainage coming out. It seems like the ear's infected. Problem is, there's a massive snow storm outside, already looks like a couple of feet of snow and it's still falling hard. Will I die if I can't see a doctor until several days after my ear surgery site became infected?
Answer: No you will not die, but you may experience some intense pain. It sounds like the ear is infected or it could have had fluid build up behind and ruptured and made a tiny hole to let this stull drain out. This happened to my daughter once and her dr. said it was Mother Natures way of healing itself; however, with the surgery it doesn't sound good. Can you call the dr. on the phone?? Is there any way of getting out before it gets worse???? All I know to do is take tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain and try putting side of your head on a heating pad. Do not put anything down in your ear, just keep it clean on the outside. Sorry. A warm moist bath cloth might help. Good luck.(Above I am referring to your ear drum.) Be careful about rising from a sitting or lying position as inner ear problems do affect your balance.
Question: How do i tell my mom i want otoplasty ear surgery.? So I'm 14 years and my ears stick out like crazy. Ive been reading some articles and otoplasty seems right for me. I'm not sure if my mom will want to spend the money, or let me miss a week of school. How do i convince and tell my mom that i want this surgery?
Answer: I agree with the fist answer. I think surgery for kids is a no-no.
But I also think you should talk to your mom about this. Try talking about how your ears make you feel. If she doesnt give you the answer you're looking for, try talking to your school counselor.
Everyone has something on their body which they'd like to improve, but surgery is not the answer.
I personally have friends who have specific hair cuts to disguise the ears that they think are different-looking, but when they pull their hair back, i think their ears look normal. My brother wore hats for years, and still does. He says it just makes him feel better about his ears. The thing is, that when he was very young like 10, he had some kids tell him that his ears were too big. Those kids were just trying to be mean, and his ears were fine! But he always thought they were stuck-out after that. So just because someone tells you that you should be shameful of the way you look, you shouldn't believe them! They're just trying to be mean, or possibly over-compensate for their own insecurities.
Be secure with yourself! You can do it! If we all looked the exact same, then we'd be pretty boring!!!
Take care....and remember: You Rock!!!
Question: I had inner ear surgery and my ear itches like crazy now? So I recently had inner ear surgery. My doctor had to move my ear drum during this procedure. Well, ever since I had this done my ear has been itching like crazy. It will itch around the opening and it seems that the more I scratch the worse it gets. I have to wear a cotton ball in my ear to protect it for two weeks. Do y'all think the cotton ball is making my ear itch? But even when I have it out to clean my ear it itches still.
Answer: A lot of times itching means it's healing. Maybe that's what is happening. Why not give your doctor a call and ask if it's normal?
Question: One day after ear surgery okay to smoke? Yesterday I had surgery on my ear where they had to cut behind the ear and reinforce a "pocket" with cartilage so that my cholestiatoma would not come back.
I am not in too much pain, but the percocet they gave me just causes me to become nauseous and super drowsy feeling which I hate.
I was wondering if I were to smoke a small amount of pot, would it cause any negative side-effects due to my surgery?
Thanks.
Answer: Why not take the safe and obvious route and ask your doctor for anti-nausea medication? He should give you a prescription with no problem. I've had to take this kind of medication for years. It will also help you sleep if you are in need of it.
P.S. Benedryl also helps with nausea!
Question: How much does torn ear lobe surgery cost? I'm 15 years old and have a torn ear lobe on my right ear due to wearing heavy earrings and I was wondering how much surgery to correct it costs. Thanks!
Answer: I work at my country’s Bank and could have gone anywhere in the world for treatment. I opted for Forerunners Healthcare Consultant’s in India because my doctor told me about the medical expertise there. Equally importantly he had heard glowing reports about the humane and patient-friendly doctors and nurses. My surgery was outstanding and the prices, amazing! It was a very happy experience, in every sense. I commend India as a wonderful place to get treated in. Having lived in the US for several years, I can say that the hospital in India compares well with the best in the USA.

Question: How do I find a good plastic surgeon for ear reduction surgery? I would like to get ear reduction surgery but am confused on where to turn to get a good surgeon. I think it's worth it especially when dealing with cutting up your face to have someone qualified with a good track record; at the same time I'd like to save money if I can. I'm looking to get this done relatively soon if that's possible. My family's in the midwest, would it be cheaper out there than NYC? Surgeons are probably better in New York though yeah? I don't know anybody who could help?
Answer: I would start out with talking to your family doctor and he/she will be able to recommend someone that he/she trusts.
Question: How long does a child need to stay home after ear tube surgery? My son may need to get the ear tube surgery and I need to plan accordingly to stay home with him when he needs his mommy. Therefore I have to make sure I have enough leave if this happens. I read online that they can leave the hospital the same day, but it doesn't say how long they need to stay home and rest.
If anyone has had this experience, please leave your comments and suggestions. Thanks!
Answer: My 2 sons have both had this done. I don't remember with the first 1 (was 6yrs ago) With my other son we went home like 2 hours after he was done. He slept alot that day and I stayed home with him for the next day. I went back to work the day after that. He doesn't go to a sitter though, he stays home with daddy during the day. If he had to go to a sitter I prob would've stayed home a day longer.
Question: What will my 12 month old be like after her ear tube surgery? My 12 month old daughter is having ear tubes put in tomorrow morning. What will she be like after the surgery? Groggy? Her normal self? Cranky? In pain? Describe your experiences, if you have them.
Answer: My niece and nephew both had that done. They were a little groggy when they first came home, took a small nap and were back to normal. It didn't effect them at all. Hope you have a similar experience. Good luck.
And not that this is the same procedure but my son had a lump removed from his chest and I thought that he would be in pain and cranky when he came home. He was jumping around like a rabbit. Stitches and everything didn't bother him. He was even totally under anesthesia and all. Kids just bounce back quickly. Just thought I would share another experience.
Question: Is it normal to have 10 ear infections after ear tube surgery? Im a little upset and sad because my 10 month old just cries because of the repetitive ear infections he gets. He has had ear tube surgery and they just keep on coming! Someone please tell me what to do. Do you think I need to get a second opinion?
Answer: I would definitely go to another doctor if you don't like what this one is telling you.
In the meantime there is a fool proof way to prevent ear infections from now until he outgrows this issue (6 or 7 years old) that I have used since my child also got ear infections after the tube surgery. Ironically tomorrow he is having ear tube removal surgery (he is now 7) but that is another story.
Use the silicon (swimming) ear plugs. They run you about $5-7 per pack and make sure they are securely in his ears whenver he is swimming, bathing etc. Keep the inner ear dry and he there will be no chance of infections. His ears need time to heal - you can't keep getting infection after infection or you risk scarring and potential partial hearing loss. Its a pain in the buitt to put these things in and remmebr them all the time but it works. NOTE: only use each pair 3-4 times as they lsoe their adherence and may leak. Also buy 3 packs at a time. One for the bath area, one for youir purse when you go out, and one spare to replace eitehr of them.
Question: Is it safe to be on a plane after ear tumor surgery? I had surgery almost 2 months ago. I still get headaches and nausea.I had a tumor in my ear canal, which wasn't cancerous.I have the chance to go to California for 3 days from Toronto. Is it safe for me to fly?I am thinking not, and my surgeon is off today.I don't know if the pressure is bad for me or not.Thanks.
Answer: since u feel uncomfortable already, psychologically speaking, it is appropriate u wait till u get ur surgeon to comment on this.
Question: about How much does Ear Hemotoma Surgery Cost for cats? Hi, my cat ,Sammy ,has ear hemotoma , the vet said he probably needs surgery ....how much do u think the surgery costs?
Answer: Hematoma surgery can be rather expensive. It consists of the dog being put under general anasthesia and having the blood clot removed. I've heard of it costing up to $450. The only way for you to know for sure is to call up your vet and ask for a pricing. Good Luck.
