Answer: ive been a licensed esthetician for 2 years now in the milwaukee area...to be honest with you here its hard to find a good job for this field..there are so many estheticians here..and so many doctors offices and the medical side they all want people with experience..im currently working for aveda..but i am curenly looking.. he job is fun but i wish i wouldve looked at the big picture.. i prob wont be doing this for my career.. look into destination spas ..my best advice ask around ..call spas..also in every state the hours are different..so if you moved you would have to take the whole course over again..which i didnt know..and also you would have to take the boards over..hope this helped

Question: How can I become a paramedical esthetician in Kentucky? I know it takes a 1000 hour course to become a esthetician but how do I become a paramedical esthetician? Thanks.
Answer: go to http://www.naccas.org/schools/new/accred... to find accrediated schools. Call them and see if they offer esthetics. If you want to do medical esthetics, then you will need alot of training post graduation. Advanced courses in microdermabrasion, chemical peels, skin analysis, business skills. Sites that offer advanced training is:
www.victoriarayner.com
www.medical-esthetics.com
www.theinstituteofadvancedmedicalesthe…
www.gracemedicalequipment.com/edu.htm
http://www.imajschool.org/
http://www.nationallaserinstitute.com
http://www.laser-school.com/
salary varies depending on the setting and what procedures you do.. I would also look into laser training.. i listen ones i believe to be the best and most cutting edge. Laser training is fairly expensive, but it makes you highly marketable... And if you are getting paid on comission -you charge lot more for laser tx- sometimes your employer will pay portion or all of laser training for you.
I would also look into perm make up and electrolysis...
For perm make up go to micropigmentation.org and go under the training section to find certified instructors. I would only do perm make up training under them..they are like the "american society of plastic surgery" for micropig.
Question: Where can you find esthetician supplies online? I have a new spa and we are adding an esthetician very soon. Need information on supplies needed and where to find them.
Answer: Supplies needed will be based on the services you plan to offer and the qualifications of the aesthetician. I would contact a school that has the program and inquire about the equipment they use.

Question: Is it necessary to have an esthetician license as a makeup artist? I've worked in the MUA field for only a few months. I'm not that experienced but i'm still learning. I've been told that having an esthetician license actually helps get your foot in the door when looking for jobs. Is this true?
Is the salary for a MUA with a esthetician different from a MUA without one?
What actually is the salary range in Atlanta GA for an esthetician?
Answer: Having a license definitely helps you get customers. I don't think it matters if people see that you are naturally talented, however. If you can learn by yourself and do an amazing job, it doesn't matter. Having a license means you can ask for more money if you are a freelance artist.
Question: What is being an esthetician like ? I am thinking about starting a new career as an esthetician&make up artist? Is anyone out there a practicing esthetician or make up artist that can give career tips and share there experience?
Answer: It all depends where you want to work.
Working for yourself vs working for a company are very different experiences.
Before deciding on a career for sure, you should definitely talk in person to:
• A person in the esthetician field.
• A person who is going to school for cosmetology
I don't know what you're looking for though.
I was a makeup artist for a short time, and liked it. But it wasn't my passion I found out quickly.
So you'll obviously find some people who love it, and some people who don't.
People who are successful and people who aren't.
If you are good at makeup and can see yourself doing it for other people, all day long - just go for it.
It's not like you're stuck in one career your entire life.
Question: How do you become a medical esthetician? I have my esthetician license in CA and want ot become employed at a Medical Spa but I am finding it very difficult to get hired because i dont have the medical backround. What extra education do i need? Is it worth it?
Answer: Take a medical terminology course and make sure you get a microdermabrasion certificate...these are pretty much mandatory for a Physician's office or medspa. Also, what I have learned is don't randomly fax your resume to prospective employers...show up in person, dressed professionally. As you know, physical attractiveness and good skin are very important in this industry. It's very easy to toss a resume in the trash, but if they see you and like how you look and present yourself, you have a better chance of getting a job. Good Luck!
Question: Best way to start out as a newly graduated esthetician? I just got my esthetics license and I would like to know if anyone has any advice on the best way to start out as an esthetician. I am worried about renting from a salon with no clientele, would I be able to pay my rent. If anyone has advice on the best way to start out as a new esthetician with few clients please let me know. Thanks.
Answer: Try starting out somewhere like American Laser Center or Sleek Medspa depending on where you live. Both of these companies have a high turnover rate because the estheticians are always very busy and work very hard. If you find a spa that has multiple locations usually they will have a large clientele and do not require you to bring in clients. A large company is good to start out even though it is not a good place to stay long term (very sales oriented). From there you can find a job almost anywhere because big companies try to have to most up and coming treatments, you will be ahead of the game.
Good Luck and I hope you love the industry when you get out there.
Question: What is a proper tip for my esthetician for a facial? I am getting a facial this week. I never know how much to tip, though. Can anyone out there give me tip suggestions for a $38 facial?
I realize it, of course, depends on how good of a job my esthetician does but can anyone just give me a rough estimate? Thanks.
Answer: I usually try to start a tip at 10% and round up to the nearest half dollar. For $38, that would be $3.80, round up to $4
If the person I am tipping does a good job, they get more, if they do a poor job, they get less, if they do an average job, no adjustment needed. If their service was downright embarrassing, they get nothing and I calmly explain, face to face, why they will not be receiving a tip. If the circumstances call for it, (either out of this world amazing or ridiculously terrible) I will talk to a supervisor.
Question: How long dose it take to receive esthetician License after you sent in the paper work? I graduated from an esthetician school in December 2008. I sent in my papers to the Board of barber and cosmetology examiners. And I was wondering if anyone know how long it takes to receive your license in Minnesota in the mail?
Answer: Good luck with that. I graduated the same month and year as you and I have still not received my temporary license. Ridiculous when you pay for the license and they still dont send it to you. I'm in NJ btw - in my state they have 120 days to contact me for the State Board.
Question: How many days a week does an esthetician work? I just wanted to know how many days a week an esthetician works and how many hours?
Answer: Well I work at a spa, and the estheticians I work with are paid on a commission base. So they kinda get to make their own schedule. Some work like 40 hours a week like a regular job and some only come in like 2 days a week. So it can be up to you depending on the company you work for.
Question: How many months does it take to complete an esthetician course? I live in SC and the website of the school i'm going to says 450 hours. And the school says classes are from 8:30am-3pm. So i'm wondering if this is just for cosmetology or esthetician classes too? Do they usually take 6 and a half hours a day? I just was wondering so i'll know before hand. So about how many months should it take me to graduate?
Answer: yupp you go the whole 6 hours. i did cosmetology and had 2 go 42 hours a week for a whole year. the esthetician program is about 3 to 4 months i think
Question: what is the tool that an esthetician uses to do the extractions with? I went for a facial, and I don't know why I didn't ask, but what are the tools they use for extractions? Can I buy them? I did buy a round blackhead remover, but I can't imagine that would be the same thing. What the esthetician used felt like a needle and it worked great, unlike that cheap thing I bought.
Answer: It is called "skincare tool" by tweezerman, and it really does feel like a needle, but it is really just this tool. Buy one, and use the loop side. After you get used to it you'll start to feel the same feeling your esthetician has.
Question: Is being an esthetician a good way to support yourself through college? I'm studying for my bachelor's, but esthetician training takes 5-6 months in my state, so I thought I'd try doing that while supporting my way through college.
Answer: Yeah it is. Keep in mind, that is 5-6 months of full time study so you won't time or energy most likely to study the other courses you will be taking. Not to mention, the times of day the classes are held may not be compatible with each other.
Question: Is cosmetology or esthetician a good career for moms? I am thinking of going to school for cosmetology or esthetician. My husbands income is enough to support our family, since I know that at first income is low starting out. Is this a pretty flexible career to have? Why do you like it?
Answer: Hope you don't mind, you didn't mention a nail tech but I felt left out, lol Its any of these fields are great, especially for a mom because once you get established with your clientele, you can pretty much make your own schedule. I've been a nail tech for 19 yrs. I was well established before I had kids, so once they came along I cut down my hours and eventually opened my own little nail studio in my home. DId this for 10 yrs. I went to school for cosmetology but I found I loved doing nails instead. Cosmo has so many aspects to it, its pretty wide ranged. You can specialize in so many things. Its hard work, but its worth it! Good luck to you!

Question: Do you have to be an Esthetician to perform laser hair removal? I am looking into laser hair removal(so cal) And I was told that you have to be a licesned Esthetician to do this.
Answer: In some states you can be an esthetician and perform laser hair removal. but in California you have to be a R.N to run a laser. I work at a medi-spa and they are all nurses. if you want to learn electrolysis you can do that with your esthetics's license.
