Abdomen
Commonly referred to as the tummy or belly
Question: What part of your abdomen begins to grow first during pregnancy? I'm 11 weeks. Above my panty line, is where my abdomen has begun to grow. I thought it would start in the lower abdomen, right above the pelvic bone. What experiences have you all had?
Answer: everyone is different, plus some peoples uteruses are shaped differently than others. so it all depends on how your shaped, where you are showing is probably completly normal for you. my lower abdomen started to grow first, but i was bloated my whole first trimester.
Question: What did your lower abdomen feel like during your early pregnancy? My period isn't until 3 weeks still but my lower abdomen just feels a bit different and a bit off/weird.
Does that mean I may be pregnant or can one not feel anything this early on?
Is it possible to feel anything during the first conceiving stages or during that two week period that your body is planting the egg or whatever it's doing?
Answer: I suspected I was pregnant about a week before my period was due because I had been having period-like cramping for 3 weeks. I took a home pregnancy test and sure enough I was!
You probably can't get an accurate result from a test for a couple more weeks, so be patient :)
Question: What can cause a distended abdomen, yellow skin and scleras? An elderly man, found unconscious in the alley behind a local restaurant, is brought tot he clinic in a patrol car. His abdomen is distended, his skin and scleras are yellow, and he reeks of alcohol. What do you surmise is the cause of his condition and what terms are used to describe th various aspects of his appearance?
Answer: If this is how you do your homework for some kind of health professions class, maybe you should not be a healthcare professional.
Question: What could cause fluttering sensation in the abdomen? I have been having a fluttering sensation in my abdomen here and there for the past few days. Once in a while it will feel like something has flipped. I had my period on May 1st, so am believe that I am not pregnant. What else could be causing this feeling?
Answer: Depending on where you are in your cycle it could have something to do with ovulation (an example only).
The only way to know for sure is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they say.
Question: What to do to have a flat abdomen for my daughter? She is 10 yrs old. She is average build with 35 kg wt and 4.2 ft ht. Her tummy looks big and she could never find trousers that are giver to her age. Her abdomen is having curves (it shows 2 curves while she sits) like older ladies. Because of this I have to be strict with her and sometimes I feel so bad also. Also her body is so soft like a small baby. Otherwise she is active and have a lots of physical exercise also.
Answer: Your daughter is 10. She is a young girl, and her body will go through many changes. As long as she is eating a healthy balanced diet, and is active she will be fine. Her body mass index is high for her age. So learn about healthy diets for children. I would suggest consulting a pediatric doctor.
The best thing you can do for her is educate yourself on child development and nutrition. If you obsess to her that she is somehow less than beautiful, she can develop eating disorders which can effect her normal growth cycles. This can also effect her self esteem.
You obviously love her very much, so become more active with her. Modify your recipes, and your exercise routines so that the two of you can participate in a healthy lifestyle together. I make my boys cook with me all the time, they are more likely to eat better when they help create the meals. Good luck with your endevours
Question: What type of spider has a red abdomen and black head? The abdomen is completely red and has no symbols of a black widow. It is small and was found in a South Carolina home.
Answer: It's truly impossible to say without more details, but there are a few likely candidates. The most likely candidate I would say would be some kind of red or oranged-backed Ant Mimic spider of the Castianeira genus, which is very common in the Carolinas (and North America for that matter).

Castianeira descripta here is common all along the east coast from Mass to Florida.
Question: What is causing this chronic pain in my lower abdomen? Every year, around this time, I get chronic pains in my lower abdomen, just below the belly button. This pain is accompanied by diarrhea and the pain is mild to moderate--depends on how my day is going or how it has gone. Please, help me figure out what could be causing this pain, and please, help me figure out any at-home-remedies that may stop the pain or ease it's passing.
Answer: What makes your question difficult to answer is the time of year factor. I don't know of anything in and of itself that would give you abdominal pain that is accompanied by or caused by the time of year.
Are you changing your diet or activity level? Does the pain and diarrhea come at other times of the year also but not as bad? There has to be something else that is triggering this, I think.
If you are having some strange reaction to the time of year, try getting the lamps that are recommended for people that become depressed due to the shortening of days. You need light that mimics natural sunlight, not just more lamps. You can find them if you do a search on seasonal affective disorder light or lamp. If that doesn't work, try talking to your doctor.
Question: What are the disadvantages if i sleep on my abdomen where my breasts are pressed? i feel comfortable when i sleep on my abdomen where i can completely lie myself on bed. But im quite bothered if that affects my breast. Will it deforms them or increase or decrease in size? i don't know. Please help. Thanks.
Answer: it wont bother your breast. it will cause back pain so you may want to put a pillow under your hips so you properly align your spine
Question: swollen lower left abdomen below the ribcage. What is happening to me? i have been having lower left abdomen swelling for about 6 months and i feel that it is twitching inside frequently, almost everyday. i am also feeling a bit of dull pain inside. i went to the GP, the second doctor that i have consulted, told me that i have nothing wrong with me.
i was hit by a ball 4 times on different occasions and all are during physical education.
Answer: have you had any tests done? or is it all visual/external exams? cause you could have a hernia, or its internal tissue swelling, both of which hurttt though, i would definitely not leave that alone. keep looking for an answer, there should be no abdominal swelling in a healthy individual (excluding bloating, duh :p )

Answer: jeriandmike_haney,
UInfortunately, medical diagnoses do not specify "weird feelings"! I shall discuss some details of pain in that region that might give you some insight into your symptoms which may be from an undefined origin. Lower right abdominal pain occurs on the right side of the umbilicus. It may spread to left side or back side. It may be caused by appendicitis, bowel cancer, Crohn’s disease, constipation, diverticulitis, hernia, intussusception, lymphoma, kidney stones, psoas abscess, pyelonephritis, ulcerative colitis, sickle cell disease etc. Women may experience lower right abdominal pain due to ectopic pregnancy, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, ruptured ovarian cyst, twisted ovarian cyst and salpingitis. Mesenteric lymphadenitis is one of the common causes of lower right abdominal pain in children. Organs and structures of the right side of the abdomen include - Skin over the right lower abdomen. Gallbladder. Right kidney. Right Ureter. Right adrenal gland. Duodenum ( the very first part of the small intestines). Right part of the large intestines. The Appendix. Right ovary in females. Right Fallopian tube. Muscles of the lower right abdominal wall. Blood vessels of the lower right side of the abdomen

Question: What could be causing sharp pain in my upper left abdomen 5 months after giving birth? Ever since I gave birth to my son, 5 months ago, when I move a certain way or something touches this certain spot on my abdomen (to the left and up a bit from my belly button) I get a sharp pain. I was wondering what could be causing it?
It's below my ribs, so it's not that. Also, I had a vaginal birth.
Answer: It could be a broken rib? Did you have a c-section? I didn't feel fully put back together for a year after that... it took awhile for things to re-adjust. I was convinced they left some tools in there.
Question: What is a normal abdomen measurement in pregnancy? You know when the OBGYN starts to take out the measuring tape and measure your abdomen. How many cm is normal and how many is too big and how many is too small? Is there a chart or something?
Answer: While doctors still do this measurement, it is not relied on for the growth of your baby. Ultrasound is far more accurate so that is what the doctor relies on. The measurement via tape is simply to insure that your baby is continuing to grow.
Question: How do I get rid of accumulated fat around my abdomen and hips? I am a 23 years old. I've always been really thin, and I exercise regularly and eat healthy. Recently any fat on my body has accumulated into an 'innertube' of fat/skin around my abdomen and hips. I run/walk or swim everyday, I have rockhard abs underneath this fat, but the love handles and pooch will not go away!! Should I do a liquid diet for a while or something? I have absolutely no fat anywhere else on my body...I really don't understand whats going on.
Answer: Hey girl,
Just a note before I start: crunches, push ups, situps, etc will not help you loose weight! THEY WILL MAKE YOU GAIN MUSCLE ON TOP OF DA FAT!!!!
What you really need to do if you want to loose
weight, is make sure you do these VERY important
things:
1. Have no more than 1,000 calories a day! Look on
every nutrition label of what you eat, and always buy
low calorie foods!
2. Exercise! But not for muscles! People get loosing
weight and gaining juscle confused. The gym is good
for tonning up muscles, but to loose weight, you
really have to run, jump, swim, and anything else that
really makes you sweat, sweat, sweat!!!! Exercise for
AT Least 1-3 hours a day!
3. EAT HEALTHY! Some people skip breakfast and lunch
and then have a huge dinner right before bed. That is
absolutely the worst thing you can do for your immune
system! You will gain weight and will NEVER be able to
loose it because your immune system will be screwd up!
Make sure you have a large breakfast with no (or
little) breads. Like one egg, 2 turkey sausages, and
one waffle. Cereal and milk is good, but with 1% milk
and no sugery cereal like lucky charms, fruit loops,
etc.
Have a medium sized lunch, no hamburgers, fries, or
soda. A salad or tofu, or chicken strips (not fried)
or anything else yummy and helathy you can think of.
But still watch the calories.
Always remember to have dinner BEFORE 6 PM! A light
soup with toast, or low calorie mac and cheese and a
salad is good. Maybe a veggie low calorie lasgna.
Also, dont EVER eat meat after 7 pm! Especially pork
and beef. Chicken is ok, but eat it no less that 3
hours before bed.
No snacking on chips, chocolate, or any calorie
filled, starurated fat drenched, snacks during the
day! If your craving for a snack, dried fruit or
regular fruit or special K bars are good. BUT NO
ENERGY BARS, BECAUSE THEY HAVE TONS OF SUGAR!!!!
4. Go to bed early! Did you know that the more you
sleep, the more fat you burn? Thats why you are always
lighter in the morning, by a pound or so.
5. HAVE WILLPOWER!!!! You have to know when to tell
yourself to stop! Sometimes you need it to tell you to
go exercise, sometimes not to eat donuts and cake at a
birthday party.
I really hope you reach your goal!!!!!
Good Luck!!!!!
