Question: What is lentigo and why does my question need to be at least 20 characters long? oops, it looks like Y!A thinks I have a misspelling(s). It also appears Y!A prefers at least 20 keystrokes. I admit I like at least 20 key strokes too, but 150 key strokes is more to my liking.
Answer: A skin disease that tigers get its a bit of a funny one too everyfing funny to me today ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack
Where is everyone?
Question: Can someone explain in detail but not too complicated! What Hutchinsons Lentigo is and how it can be treated? My nana has a had a a large patch on her face for 10 years now, it grows every year, but horizontaly, it doesnt stick out and it does burn or itch etc, the Hospital want to take a biopsy but she is scared to let them start cutting her face up, can anyone give any advice regarding this? Thanks
Answer: Hi Hazel,
It is not possible to know what this is without a biopsy.
if it did turn out to be that, then it is the least likely type of skin cancer to spread to other parts of the body and can be treated with radiotherapy, chemotherapy or surgery.
however the chances are that if your nana has had it for 10 years and it hasn't caused her any problems that a biopsy will prove it to be nothing at all, just a skin blemish which is nothing to be concerned about at all.
i can understand her being scared to have the biopsy but wouldn't it be better for her to know that it is nothing than to go on worrying about it? And even if it did turn out to be something more serious, isn't it better tat she finds out now rather than allow it to go on and possibly get worse as she gets older?
I am sure from what you say, that it will be nothing though.
I hope this helps darling.
love Mel.X
Question: Why does my cat have lentigo (black freckles in his mouth) at only 3 years old? Does anybody else have an orange tabby this young who has them? I thought only older cats got them.
Answer: Hi Kitty.
These black spots and blotches in mouth, on lips & gums, nose & eye line are on my red (orange which is a colour based on the female genetic allele) tabby and white boy Izzy (inner lip) and on my Tortie (again in the red/orange female genetic allele) Silver tabby and white girl Layna who has them on her right lower outside lip, inner top and bottom right sided gum & cheek, inner right nostril & on her lower eye line on both sides in spots, blotches and lines.
I think it's to do with the red X gene on the alleles which contributes to these freckles, spots & blotches since black is present in the red series of cat.
Although, these freckles can develop and appear as a cat gets more mature, but it's quite common for the red series cat to be born with freckles and spots, as well, in the mouth, nose and eye area.
This is called Lentigo Simplex which is completely harmless. But, just to make sure since red series cats do tend to have pale pink or red brick colour noses, so this part of their body could be more prone to UV, I'd ring your vet just to put your mind at ease!!!
Here's a link with an idea as to what may cause these spotting/freckling -

All the very best and hugs to your babies.
Question: general question about penile lentigo? briefly, has any of you(male obviously) have or had penile lentigo?
If you had penile lentigo, what steps did you take to get it removed?
and if you have it, are you thinking of getting it removed? and what do you think is the cause of it?
thanks.
Answer: There is no specific cause. It's merely a patch of normal skin with more melanin than surrounding skin. Sometimes they are due to sun damage, but on the penis, unless you are a nudist, that's unlikely. They are not usually dangerous at all.
To quote from the link provided below:
"Lentigines [plural of lentigo] require no specific treatment. A broad-spectrum sunscreen may help to prevent further appearance and darkening of solar lentigines. Several creams may lighten lentigines if applied for a number of months. These include hydroquinone or antioxidants such as:
* Alpha hydroxy acids
* Vitamin C
* Retinoids
* Azelaic acid
If desired, lentigines can be removed permanently through the use of chemical peels, cryotherapy, or laser treatments."
Question: Lentigo.....Brown spots on hands & face? Any home remedies for getting rid of sun caused brown spots on the back of hand and also on face?
Answer: I have a big sun spot on my face and have tried everything. I also sell Avon and have tried every cream that they have and nothing works. The Dermatologist said that I would have to use Laser to get rid of it.
Question: What is lentigo maligna?
Answer: Sir John Hutchinson first described lentigo maligna in 1890; the disease continues to be called Hutchinson melanotic freckle on occasion. It is called lentigo maligna when it is confined to the epidermis and lentigo maligna melanoma when it violates the dermis. It commonly affects the sun-exposed skin of the head and neck, with a predilection for the nose and cheek.
Question: What is this called (is it lentigo)? It looks like this :

Answer: 3% PH is required. Love it.
Question: Possible babby girl name: Lentigo Vaginae? Hello everyone,
These are traditional Irish Gaelic names that have been in our family for many generations. We are struggling a bit to choose the right name for our child (not sure of gender yet), and are considering all possibilities.
Thank-you, and God Bless.
Just wanted to add - the name Vaginae is Irish Gaelic for "lovely moist lips" or "enchanted cavern."
Answer: Erm, well... I don't fancy the name too much...
Why don't you try something else... Caoimhe is a nice name. It's pronounced "Kee-va", and it's Irish Gaelic, too.
Here's the link: http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Caoimhe
Because well, if you're sending your girl to an English school, it's true that her name could be easily made fun of. She might not fit in too well.
I googled the names. You'll find "Lentigo" related to many things, none of which are names. "Vaginae" is related to vagina............................
But still, don't listen to what the others said. Traditional, Irish Gaelic names just sound different from the usual English names. That's all.
But, I guess the other answerers have a point. The name would be something like "Brown Pigmented Spot on Skin, Vagina".
So, yeah... I suggest you don't use that name. Not if the baby girl's going to live in an English-related place.
But still, the other answerers were really mean. After all, you asked the question because you wanted advice about that name, right?
Anyway, good luck! Hope this helped! And God Bless you too! =]
Question: Female Red Tabby cat with odd mouth issues, freckles, sores, inflamed gums? I have a female red tabby cat that is about 18 months old. She seems to have chronic inflamed gums, mostly in the back. She also seems to have developed freckles or dark spots on her lips and gums and lately what appear to be fever-blister like swelling on her lips. We've had her to our vet who has seen the inflamed gums. We periodicaly put her on Clind-Guard (anti-biotic) to treat her gums which helps but only temporarily. We also have her on Bayho Liquid Immo (L-Lysine) and a number of supplements (C, E and Q10). She also get fresh spinach and yogurt with her wet food every day. We do all of this to keep her immune system strong. My question is do all of these symptoms have anything in common? For example Feline herpes/Lentigo Simplex or am I dealing with multiple things. Our vet says the freckles are normal in female red tabby cats and some cats have chronic inflamed gums. We have tested her blood but he has never mentioned feline herpes. Any idea what I'm dealing with??
Hi...we brush her teeth every night and she does get tartar control food & treats. The vet thinks it is not an issue of there being any mouth infection or need for teeth cleaning causing any of these issues.
PS Our vet is very good. This is not a case of a poor vet more a case of trying to correlate all of these issues.
As I said our vet feels the freckles are perfectly normal in female red tabby cats (lentigo simplex) and that the gums are potentially a chronic problem that we will have to periodically have to treat with anti-biotics and boosting her immune system. She has not been to the vet for the blister-like gums since they are very recent. Our clinic is 1st class, best in our area and one of the most knowledeable vets in the state. State of the art operating suites...really nice place, really intellegent vet. He also offer very hollistic approaches including accu-puncture...I have complete confidence in him but I do think it is valuable to seek opinions from other cat owners who may have experienced these exact issues. I'm not doubting or second guessing, just doing additional research.
Confusing since the cat doesn't appear to be affected in any way. She's perfectly normal and healthy/happy otherwise. I'm not attempting to be stubborn and I do care about my kitty. I think the Get a new vet comment was out of line but get a 2nd opinion is fair. I'm trying to find another cat owner that is dealing with the same symptoms or has delat with the same symptoms more so that questioning our veterenarian care. Again getting a 2nd opinion is a fair answer just not exactly what I was looking for.
Answer: Get a new vet.
First of all, your cat needs to have her teeth cleaned. Without all of that infection in her mouth, you may find that all of her problems clear up.
Question: There are four types of melanoma.Which one is vaginal melanoma? There are four types of melanoma: Superficial spreading melanoma, Nodular melanoma, Lentigo maligna melanoma and Acral lentiginous melanoma. Which one is vaginal melanoma. Thank you
Answer: Acral Lentiginous Melanoma
ALM is sometimes referred to as a “hidden melanoma” because these lesions occur on parts of the body not easily examined or not thought necessary to examine. ALM develops on the palms, soles, mucous membranes (such as those that line the mouth, nose, and female genitals), and underneath or near fingernails and toenails.
Question: Brown Bump in Cat's Mouth? (PIC) Please Help :\? So we just adopted a sweet loving female. Shes about 3 and was taken from a home by the ASPCA because the person was hoarding cats (over 20 in a small apartment). I have the papers from the adoption agency saying she got her rabies vaccines and tested neg for feline aids and leukemia, and they gave her the de-wormer and I believe neutered her. She was sitting at the shelter and the pet shop (alone) for around 4 months.
She eats, plays, sleeps, meows and seems to be feeling good, and hesitant but very affectionate.
I noticed this marking in her mouth and I'm a little worried. I really don't want to take her to the vet unnecessarily because I just took her home Friday and we had to spend a lot of money on new things for her, the holidays, and astham medications for one of our current cats.
Does anyone know what this is??
I know the picture isn't too good, but please look. It's dark brown/gray, and it feels kind of gummy. It doesn't seem to be in her jaw line where a tooth would be, more on her lip. She didn't really flinch like it hurt her. She eats fine and acts perfectly normal.
I thought it might be lentigo (we have an orange tabby with this), but I'm not sure - I've never seen lentigo as a bump or lump before. She's a beautiful short haired calico. Please help us! :( Thank you!

good luck!
Question: Is it normal for a torbie-and-white cat to get black spots on her nose? I've only noticed them this week and I've googled it and it seems like lentigo but nearly everyone was saying their cat that had them was orange. Mine is brown & orange tortoiseshell/tabby with white paws and up her legs to various heights and a white bib with what I think is called a necklace of colour (it's like an unbroken band that goes across the white bib). Not sure how old she is, the vet thinks around 5 or 6 ish. She has 2 little black spots on her nose, I can't see any on her lips but they're half black half pink and she's always had pink in the black and vice versa (same as her pads) so there may be some that I just haven't noticed. If I should take her to the vet I will but we used to have a ginger tabby and he had the same spots and the vet said not to worry about them unless they're irritated/change shape etc; is it the same for a brown & orange & white cat? Thanks.
Is there a particular age when they get these? Just wondering in case I can work out a bit better how old she is; the vet that guessed her age said he couldn't be sure because she didn't have much tartar on her teeth so he'd say she was younger but physically she looked more adult (that was 3 1/2 years ago).
Answer: I'm a vet specialist so maybe I can help: it does actually sound like lentigo so consult a vet ASAP at your local.

Question: Does having lentigo mean you will definetly get cancer? A member of my family has gotten lentigo for a second time, the first time it was cut out and she had plastic surgery to cover the scar on her face. However it has returned in almost the same place, she is being sent for a biopsi but I'm pretty sure it's going to be cancerus, is it possible for it not to be cancer?
Answer: Yes. Not all lentigos turn into cancer. But it is a sign that you have had too much sun. Time for some sun protective measures. The lentigos, as with skin cancers, once you get them, your chance of getting more goes up 50%. They definately need to be monitored.
Question: I have a small lentigo on my foot...tattoo? It's been there for around 4 years (as far as I can remember, if not longer), and it hasn't changed in size and shape. The doctor said it's nothing to worry about and that it was just caused by sun exposure, and that it's just the melanin cells have sort of 'held hands' and given me a patch of tan.
I was just wondering if it would be okay to tattoo over it? It's not raised and hasn't changed at all since I got it. It doesn't irritate me at all, only when I look at it because it's not so pretty!
If anyone could help that'd be great
(please no answers like tattoos would be uglier!)
Answer: There is no problem with tattooing over it. The only issue you might have is how the darker pigment will affect the color of ink (or maybe it won't at all!) I think if you're having a black over it then it should be fine but lighter colors might look a bit different in that area.
