Lol. This is a silly question, but I was wondering.
Answer: fat and muscle atrophy are 2 differnet things. getting fat usually is not far from other aspects of lazy life, but un-related to atrophy specifically.

Question: What steps might be taken to minimize atrophy of the skeletal muscles in patients confined to bed? What steps might be taken to minimize atrophy of the skeletal muscles in patients confined to bed for prolonged times?
Answer: The muscles are going to atrophy.
You can slow the process by doing exercises, with weights if the injury will allow. Your physical therapist or occupational therapist will show you how it's done, and give you a list to take home with you.
You're also going to have to eat.
Been there, done that. My right leg muscles are still smaller than my left, even though I started walking again on Halloween.

Question: My horse has atrophy below the withers, is there anyway to get a treeless saddle pad cheap? He is an ex racer. My friend noticed that he had atrophy. She suggested that i get a saddle pad with extra padding but they are very expensive. She also said i could get a custom made saddle fit for his back but that just sounded way to expensive for me. Does anyone know where i could get a treeless saddle pad in english for cheap?
Answer: You don't want to fill in an area of atrophy with more padding. It is likely to have occurred because there is too much pressure on the tissues to begin with. Adding more padding adds more pressure, when what you would need to do is to attempt to relieve all pressure from that area. This usually requires a better fitted saddle.
You really should have this evaluated by an equine vet to determine the cause and then look at viable solutions to see if this is something that corrective pads can address.
Question: how do you know if your horse is getting saddle atrophy? how do you know that your saddle does not fit your horse and that there might be signs of atrophy? my older horse is getting a bit thin around the withers, is that due to age or saddle?
21 year old qh mare. my old barrel racing horse.
Answer: Atrophy looks like a sucked in muscle, like the lack of muscle. It could just be the age of your horse, how old is he? Lack of muscle will take the "fat" from the wither area, as well as being underweight.
Question: What are some ways you can cure bone atrophy? As in surgical procedures? I need help with this; in a story i am writing someone has bone atrophy and i have no clue where to find information on a cure or surgical procedure.
Please describe it and then put a link below it for where you got your information! THanks a ton!
Answer: There is no specific surgical procedure for bone atrophy (more or less the same thing as osteoporosis). Loss of bone density is managed by altering mineral balance in blood, which is affected by things such as kidney function, hormone levels, diet, exercise, and absorption characteristics of the intestines. Specific problems caused by osteoporosis can be fixed by surgery - spinal surgeries and hip replacements are two examples.

Question: Is there any cure or treatment now for optic nerve atrophy? I've had optic nerve atrophy ever since I was a boy and I'm wondering if there is any cure. I've seen from western websties that there is no treatment but what about eastern viewpoints or other viewpoints. My condition is stable and with glasses corrected in both eyes is 20/200. I am still pronounced legally blind by opthamologists and they said that there is nothing that can be done and it won't get any worse but the downside is that it can't get any better they told me. I suffer from eye strain and myopia & I get terrible headaches. I tried accupuncture but it doesn't help (maybe headaches for about a year if I take 10 treatments). I heard there is electrical stimulation but I am skeptical and I don't know if herbs might work or not because I tried one time & nothing happened. Do you know if there is any cure or treatment possiblity or am I going to have to go through life blind the rest of my life? If there is anything, PLEASE HELP, PLEASE HELP!! I want to see & drive a car one day.

I've researched SMA and I've read that it can only be inherited.
Answer: Usually nobody in the family even knows that they carry the gene. The way the check is through a blood test and what they are checking for is if the child is missing the Survival Motor Neuron. My precious baby boy had Spinal Muscular Atrophy and I can tell you we had no family histroy of it either. If somebody you know has it or you think might have it I promise I'll keep them in our prayers. God Bless
Question: How to best handle muscular atrophy of a geriatric AK amputee's stump when not wearing the artificial leg? The combination of the prosthetic sock and the socket when wearing the artificial leg provides support to the stump. But, especially in a geriatric amputee who wears the artificial leg for short periods, what is the best way to keep the stump in good shape and not have the muscle fall off the bone over time?
Answer: There are some shrinker sock products out there that help keep everything tight and together.
you may also look into a thick liner to help keep the shape. I wear the Ossur Iceross seal in liners and it keeps all the tissue pretty secure.
There are also lots of exercises that can help keep the tissue where it belongs.
