Question: What is a hypoallergenic dog which is under 20 lbs? Our landlord said we can have a dog, but it has to be under 20 pounds and hypoallergenic since the landlord is an allergy sufferer. Any ideas? Please help!
We have to give our landlords a breed name, and they research the breed to determine if it is suitable for their property.
Answer: I don't think there is a hypo allergenic dog but their are dogs that are better with allergy sufferers because they don't shed much or at all:
-Maltese
-Toy Poodle/Poodle
-Yorkie
-Schnauzer
-Bichon Frise
And if you breed other dogs with a Toy Poodle/Poodle i think you will get a low shedding dog, but i dont know about the others

Question: What is the Biggest Hypoallergenic dog breed? Ive been looking for a big dog that is also hypoallergenic and i cant seem to find any. IM looking for something that is 50lbs plus
OKAY, i have a miniature schnauzer that doesn't make me sneeze, dogs that shed a **** load do. What is the biggest dog i can get that won't **** with my allergies?
Answer: Ah, the myth of the hypoallergenic --
Do a little search on here - or someplace that isn't written by some scuzzy byb -
allergies are caused by dander from the skin and proteins in the saliva -- and ALL dogs have skin and saliva.
It's not the hair that causes allergies, it's just not -- and anyone who tells you different is either trying to con you or seriously misinformed.
Allergies can be triggered by most dogs - of any breed - then you get an INDIVIDUAL dog that doesn't bother you. Happened with a kid in our family, highly allergic to dogs, found 2 dogs that she wasn't.
You need to spend time with the dog, put your face in it's skin, play with it a couple of hours, see if it's the one that won't trigger allergies.
Question: What is the best hypoallergenic small dog that is good with children ages 5-10? We are moving in our first house and would like to have a small house dog. My youngest son has asmtha which I am concerned with but it's not so bad. I wanted to know the best type of family pet for us as well as hypoallergenic.
Answer: Other than hypo-allergenic qualities - what else are you looking for in way of a pet? Low energy? High Energy? Does hubby jog in the morning? Do any of the kids want to get involved in jr showmanship? Do you want a dog with watch dog abilities?
How small are you looking for? Small dogs and Small kids don't mix? Would you consider something int he medium size range? 20-50lbs???
Also don't rule out a shelter pup. I actually have a non-shedding dog who happens to be a cocker/lab cross (and is about 25lbs) Go to your local humane society, tell the staff there what you are lookign for and I bet they'll point you in the right direction.
Question: What is a family friendly hypoallergenic dog that is low maintnence good with other dogs and strangers? Family is looking for new dog it needs to meet our needs in the q. It also needs to be hypoallergenic abd good with kids of all ages
Answer: Good with other dogs is usually down to training (although some breeds are more prone to dog aggression), as is being good with strangers and kids.
While many dogs are low shedding, none are truly hypoallergenic. It totally depends upon what you are allergic to.
Poodles are pretty smart, very low shedding, easy to train, and are generally good with people and other pets if trained properly.
Question: Are there any hypoallergenic cats available in England? My mum and brother are badly allergic to cats - and we all love cats so much. I've heard about the siberian cat which are apparently hypoallergenic. Does anyone know where i could get one in England or any other breeds which are hypoallergenic?
Not too keen on the hairless ones - though they are quite cute. I don't know if they would cause a reaction - isn't it cat saliva most allergies are caused by?
Siberians are cute - does anyone know how much they would cost?
Answer: Fur, or lack of it, doesn't really influence whether or not a particular breed of cat will cause an allergic reaction. All cats wash themselves and when their saliva dries it forms dust (dander) and it is this which triggers most people's cat allergies. Though everyone is different, Fel d1 (found in cat saliva) is the protein most often associated with allergies. I have read that Siberian and some other breeds tend to have lower levels of Fel d1, but do not know if this has been scientifically proven yet.
Bearing in mind that people's allergies may be triggered by different irritants, I think it might be a good idea for your mum and brother to spend time with different breeds of cat to make sure they are both able to tolerate the same one.
This article has lots of helpful information for people who are allergic to cats.

Question: Is there a way to make a non-hypoallergenic dog better for allergy sufferers? Our family was about to get a Papillon, which is a dog, for a pet. However, someone in our family has allergies and the Papillon is not hypoallergenic. This means that it is not good for allergy sufferers. Is there a way to make a non-hypoallergenic dog better for allergy sufferers? I heard about a special shampoo just for this problem. Have any of you tried it before and does it work? How well? Please provide the name of the brand that you use. Thank you.
Answer: Since you can be allergic to several things, dog dander, dog saliva or even dog urine it is best to visit breeders homes and check your reactions first. It is best to do this prior to getting a new dog so you do not spend money unnecessarily and will not have to go through the heartbreak of rehoming a loved pet.
Visit the breeder's home and tell the breeder about your allergies. Hug and kiss the dogs, rub your nose into their fur, and breath the air in the room where they live. Let the dogs lick your bare skin, especially on your neck (if you are brave) and inside your arms where the skin is more sensitive. You want to test your allergic reaction both to the dander and saliva. This will help you to evaluate your current allergic reaction to that particular breed.
Question: What breeds of cat are hypoallergenic that have fur? I want to get a kitten for my girlfriend for her birthday, but she is allergic. I want to get her a hypoallergenic one, but she and I both dont like the hairless ones (sorry!( I know about Siberians, are there any other types of furred hypo-allergenic cats?
Answer: Syberian's. They are house cat's, a little bigger than average, very cool personality, compared to dog's in the way they act and are very loyal and beautiful. Kind of expensive and usually a waiting list, but totally hypoallergenic.
Question: What is the best replacement for hypoallergenic milk for babies? My baby is drinking hypoallergenic milk and i want to switch to a non HA milk because its cheaper. What would be the best milk for her?
Answer: Have you tried Soy milk? That is what my son drinks. I am not for sure how it compares with the cost of milk you are using now.

Question: What is a good hypoallergenic dog food? My dog is on a prescription diet from the vet but it $46.50 for a 17 pound bag and my dog doesn't like it very much. The vet said I could try a different dog food as long as it was hypoallergenic. I wonder what a good tasting hypoallergenic that doesn't cost too much is.
Answer: my animals LOVE this food brand. it's called " Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul". they also make cat food. i get it at my local pet store. if you can't find it near you, try looking it up online and maybe you can order it that way. the ingredients are wonderful and the cost is very decent. good luck!

Question: What is the best type of dog that is hypoallergenic and relatively big? We're looking for another dog to add to our family. We have a 5 year old shih tzu. The dog needs to be hypoallergenic, and we would prefer a big dog, no schnauzers, and can stand hot temperatures. Oh, and it MUST have fur. No hairless dogs.
Oh, and we have no preference whether it is a hybrid of purebred. Thank you!
Answer: Remember, the Obama's had the same problem. They, too, had researchers find them to dogs that were mostly hypoallergenic. Labradoodles and Portugese Water Dogs. They're both adorable. Just search online to see pictures and find dog breeders.
They're both big, have fur, and get along very well with everyone. I love both dogs, I have had both! You chose which one is best for you.
Question: How long does it take to completely switch to hypoallergenic formula? My newborn who likely has MSPI has just been switch from soy formula to "predigested" hypoallergenic formula. How long is this transition. Is there a ball of undigested soy protien in his stomach, that he is slowly chipping away at? How does this work?
Answer: There wouldn't be a ball of protein in his stomach.
After a day or so he should be transitioned, just enough to get the protein out of his system.
Question: How can I make hypoallergenic formula taste a little better? I am a working mom of a 7.5 month old and need to start supplementing with hypoallergenic formula for about one feed everyday (Lots of allergies which are not all known yet).So far he has had only breast milk.I tasted the Alimentum myself and I know it is going to be a battle to get him to take it - he is becoming a picky eater and loves the sweet fruits
Answer: I don't really know if there is anyway to taste better. Are you supplementing because your supply is down? If that is the case, I would give less breastmilk per bottle and instead replace it with about an ounce of formula. That way, during the course of the day, he still gets an entire bottle of formula and you're able to save up a little more breastmilk. I did this with my daughter and it worked wonderfully. It also made the transition from breastmilk to formula easier. I slowly started adding more formula and less breastmilk and weaned her in about a month. Good luck!
Question: What is a reputable hypoallergenic foundation that isn't too heavy? I have sensitive skin and I have found that hypoallergenic make-up doesn't aggravate it.
