practice relaxation, yoga etc. and see a mental health professional if needed.
Question: I am a middle-aged man who has been developing a facial tic over the last few months and need help? When I am walking alone and the sligthest pressure is brought to mind, I start to stick out my tongue and sub vocalize as well.
Naturally I hide my mouth with my hand and I am grateful that, so far, it only happens when I am alone, but I suspect that it will start to creep into my life more often.
Please help!
Answer: Visit your family doctor. Your question is under the mental health category but this all could be some physical problem and maybe there is an imbalance chemically of something. There are rational explanations to everything.
Question: how do i get rid of a facial tic or nervous twitch? when I'm in a stressful situation... like an interview.... my facial muscles start to twitch.... anyone know how to get rid of them
Answer: Your twitch is not your problem. It is telling you about a problem. Just like your oil light in your car or the smoke detector in your house. Treat the problem; not the symptoms.

Answer: I agree too I can't stand him
Question: An Annoying Facial Tic? The personnel director was interviewing people for the position of account executive. One candidate offered excellent references and experience, and he was well-dressed and well-spoken. The only catch was a disconcerting mannerism: the fellow couldn't seem to stop winking.
So the personnel director decided to be frank. "You've got all the qualifications for the job and I'd really like to hire you, but I have to be honest. I'm afraid that facial tic of yours might put clients off."
"I'm glad you brought that up, sir," said the candidate, "because all I need to make that annoying wink go away is a couple of aspirins. See for yourself. I've got some on me," he says, as he starts emptying his pockets on the desk. The prospective employer was startled to see dozens of packages of condoms piling up: ribbed ones, lubricated ones, multi-colored ones -- every variety imaginable.
"Aha," cried the young man happily, "here they are!" He brandished two aspirin tablets, swallowed them, and sure enough the 'wink' went away in less than a minute.
"So much for the wink," said the personnel manager sternly, gesturing at the mound of rubbers, "but what about all this stuff here? I don't want the company to be represented by some wild womanizer."
"No fear, sir," the prospect assured him. "I'm a happily married man!"
"So how do you account for the contents of you pockets?"
It's quite simple, sir," the fellow assured him. "Did you ever go into a drugstore, winking like crazy, and ask for a bottle of aspirin?"
Answer: Lol and I thought that was going to be a sick joke!
Question: How to stop facial tics? At least I think that is what it is...? I have a very horrible, annoying habit of squinting and wrinkling my nose. I read up on facial tics and I understood them to be involuntary. I try not to do it, but I always end up doing it, and I look silly. Would this be considered involuntary? I just want to know how to stop it. It's embarrasing. Home remedies or herbal remedies have never worked for me. I am on medicine right now for bipolar and OCD, maybe this is the cause. Or, does anyone know of a solution?
Answer: So far as I have read there is no "cure". These tics will be more pronounced when you attempt to avoid them. The avoidance creates a heightened level of anxiety/pent up energy. Your body will inevitably release it. When it does the added anxiety of failure worsens the tic. Tourette's is often co-diagnosed with OCD.
I am in the process of being diagnosed. Possible ADHD/OCD.
Question: How can facial tics be stopped? Can anyone tell me how twitching and excessive blinking can be resolved? I am also interested in the fact that the fact that Botox was initially designed to paralyze muscles that were affected by facial tics?
Answer: you answered your own question.
Botox
Question: Can facial tics be caused by a tumor? My daughter, age 10, has a facial tic and it worries me. It is a squinting/grimacing tic . It happened for 5 weeks in December/January, then went away. Now it is back. Do I make a big deal of it, go to the Dr etc., or just assume it is a minor thing that will come and go and eventually resolve? I have this fear that she has something wrong with her brain.
Answer: unlikely to be a tumour, but yes take her to the doctors immediately
Question: What medicine can help facial tics? I have really bad facial tics, they're pretty good when I'm at home or hanging with my friends.
But, when i'm at school, they get really bad. It's quite embarrassing because i know people are saying stuff about it.
Are there any medicines or even non medicines that'll help it?
Thanks.
Answer: Its possible that you are deficient in magnesium.... magnesium is needed in our bodys for healthy nerve and muscle functioning and of course for heart health ....... if we become deficient our bodies will simply leach it from our bones where the greatest stores are held..... hence all the twitching, pinching and nervous issues such as muscle twitching...... other symptoms of magnesium deficiency are headaches and migraines, constipation, irritability and moodiness, muscle twitching such as facial tics or eyelids twitching.... eat more foods rich in magnesium.
ie ~ leafy and green vegies like broccolli, kale, chard, celery, buk choy, organic nuts and seeds such as almonds and brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, fresh fish such as tuna and salmon and wholegrain cereals like brown rice and wholegrain breads...... foods rich in magnesium will also help to lower high blood pressure.
Cut back on alcohol if you drink any also as this could deplete you of your magnesium supplies.
Magnesium is known as the antistress mineral and works in tandem with calcium ....... all the foods mentioned above are also rich sources of calcium .......... eating more foods rich in both will help to level out your moods and also enable you to better deal with the everyday dose of stress we are all exposed to at some level.
peace baby

Question: I have been developing facial tics and making weird vocalizations the last three months what might this be? It occurs during the morning when I awaken subsides throughout the day but gets bad at night.
I am 48.
These things are mild so far.
Thanks
No, I am taking no medications and I wil see a doctor soon but I was just wondering what folks here think.
Thanks to all who have answered so far.
Answer: The only answer to this is to check with a doctor before it gets any worse!
Question: Are facial tics in toddlers a cause for concern? My 2 1/2 year old daughter started to stutter excessively a few month ago. Then, it didn't seem, to me, like a "normal" transitional stutter, but a tic. I took her to the dr. even though EVERYONE told me it was "normal". Of course that is what her dr. told me also. Since then she is constantly and forcibly blinking her eyes. Is this something I should be concerned about? May this be the start of a neurological disorder?
Answer: I don't think it is normal for kids to have weird tics that last more than a couple of days! Take her to a neurologist and see what he says. And while you are waiting for the appointment, keep track of all this weird stuff, when it occurs, how often, what changes, how long it lasts, etc. That way he will have something to go off of besides just you saying, "it happens a lot." Good luck.
Question: Odd facial nerve tic, is this normal? Sometimes when i'm touched under the jaw, neck or even on the feet, it can set a nerve off in my jaw. The nerve pulsates and feels extremely weird, I can't really explain it. It shoots up through to my eye (and can depend on which side of the jaw the nerve sets off with what side i am touched)
I think that this is a normal occurrence but my friends don't think it is.
They keep being smart asses about it and teasing me
Can people confirm that this is normal so they get off my back
=) thanks.
Answer: I'm not sure it's average ... but it sounds like it's normal for you.
Question: Whats with Bush and the weird facial tics? Bush's facial tics look very similar to people who abused cocain for many years.
Answer: Hmmm. Interesting point. I always thought his face was rebelling against all the lies he was telling.
Question: looking for information on how to treat anxiety and facial tics caused by autonomic neuropathy.? prefer natural remedies but will consider others if they can be taken on an as needed basis.
thank you both. maybe this condition can only be treated symptomatically. i was hoping to get to the root of the problem and possibily reverse the condition itself.
Answer: You probably already know most of this but check out http://sumiram2006-stressfree.blogspot.c… I just found it through someone Else's question on anxiety and felt it was pretty good advice. I especially find laughter to be a great stress reliever so try to do this as often as possible. I just read the vagina and tongue question and laughed so hard at some of the answers and I am feeling very relaxed now. Mr Bean episodes I get through the library are also hysterical to me! Found Web Md today so look under pain relief and breakthrough pain on this site because they mention facial tics.
Question: Does anyone know about facial tics in 12 yr boys? During a recent visitation date, I noticed that my son has developed facial tics. He grimaces, bits his bottom lip, nods his head and blinks his eyes really hard, sometimes all at the same time. His mother and I are divorced and I believe something is happening in her house that's causing massive stress for him. He seems to only do it in very stressful situations, like visiting his grandfather in the hospital. He also did it when speaking with his mother on the phone and when he began thinking about going home (to her house). He's twelve and has been diagnosed with ADHD over 5 years ago. If that were related, would it not have come out now? He's currently taking Concerta. It's noteworthy to say that when he wasn't thinking about home or at the hospital, when in a relaxed enviroment, he didn't tic at all.
My ex-wife has apparently noticed this for a month and a half now and didn't inform me until I came to pick him up for my visitation. It actually got worse as we were getting closer to her house, so LoveToFly46, it isn't my childish ways. To update you on the situation, she was causing a tremendous amount of stress on him (this came out last week) ON TOP of taking the Concerta, which SHE WANTED HIM ON. Please don't judge the situation before you know all the facts.
Answer: FIRST get him off the Concerta! It is most likely the cause! Second, improve his diet and see that he gets more exercise! The leading cause of ADHD (which is all BS anyway) is the lack of physical activity. Stop poisoning your children with all the crappy foods and quick-fix medications! Do the research, you'll be amazed!
Question: My facial twitch/tic? For a long time, loud noises or weird feelings or things like that, which can be best described as "getting the willies" from time to time, cause me to shrug my shoulders or shake my head, contract a muscle, etc.
Just recently (this week) a small part of my right brow (just under the right eyebrow and near the eyelid) has started twitching every few minutes, but without any buildup of feeling or "willies." It just happens now and then.
It could be that I'm under stress. Anyone have any thoughts about this? It's really annoying, but it might get better now that I have a weekend and my stressful week-- the worst this year-- is over.
Answer: tics do come from stress, but it could also be a problem with your central nervous system. if it keeps happening, go to a doctor
Question: How can I control and stop my facial tics? Without medication?
Answer: I don't know that they can be controlled by will power. Why are you against taking medication for the tics? This may be your only avenue of treatment.
