Question: Way to get rid of epicanthal fold (eye) without surgery? I've heard something about a tape method - what is it, and does anyone know if it works?
It's really not that I want to look white, want bigger eyes, etc. It's that one of my eyes has an epicanthal fold and one doesn't, and it's pretty obvious ESPECIALLY when I wear makeup.
Answer: You may bee able to get Restylane; Juvederm; Radiesse or other type of filler injections in the region to make it even with the other. I would visit a plastic surgeon and discussion your non-surgical options.
Another suggestion is to have a professional makeup artist instruct you so you can use your makeup to draw attention away from the area or mask it.
Question: Why do only Asians usually have the epicanthal fold? I feel so ugly. I'm the only one in my family who has the epicanthal fold (how is that possible?), and it makes me eyes look small and slanty up close and far away. Over the years it kept getting deeper and making my eyes look narrower.
It makes me look different from whole family and chinese (even though I'm Viet).
Answer: so what big Sh!t
your eyes are as normal as anyone else's
be proud of who you are
honestly I am south asian
and I am proud of being one!
Question: Make-up tips for eyes with double eyelids and an epicanthal fold? What eyeshadow, eye liner, etc. should use to make my eyes look bigger and less slanty? I'm Asian and have double eyelids, but with an epicanthus.
Answer: Well, if you ask me, you should try putting on a light shadow, just 1 coat of mascara, and highlighter in the rim of your eyes and under your eyebrows. This will work for most people, Asians include. Just try to make sure not to put shadow on your crease, this will just accentuate the fact you have double eyelids.
Don't put on any liner, it will just take away from your eyes and add more width to them.
Question: Are there East Africans who do NOT have the typical Asian EPICANTHAL FOLD, but STILL have SLANTED EYES? Are there East Africans who do NOT have the typical Asian EPICANTHAL FOLD, but STILL have SLANTED EYES?
I meant East Asians
Answer: Saying "East African" is very broad, be specific which East Africans?
Question: Is This an Epicanthal Fold? Is This an Epicanthal Fold?
What ever it is, I hate it! I've read up on this and, from what I've read, it is common in people of Asian origin (I am not) and people with Downs Syndrome (nope).
Is there something I can have done about it?

Answer: it looks like it is an epicanthal fold.
there was a surgery that was popular in parts of asia to remove/alter it (epicanthoplasty). apparently that has gone out of style i guess. people from lots of different parts of the world have them from africa, asia, oceania, and native peoples in the americas. it would depend on your ancestory and what types of genetics you carry as to why that characteristic is present.
Question: I have an epicanthal fold. How can I get rid of of it? I have an epicanthal fold but with the double eyelid. I'd like to get rid of the epicanthal fold so I can look more Caucasian. It's only a slight one but I don't like it. Please post. Thanks.
Also if I get a rhinoplasty or any surgery on my eyes, will that make the fold go away?
Well my eyes are big anyway. I just don't like how it looks.
I don't think mine is pronounced enough to require anything more than cutting the skin.
Answer: DONT!!!
people should not have to change!! we are all perfect the way we are!!
Question: What is an Epicanthal Fold? I was told by my world history teacher that asians have epicanthal folds, and I have no idea what that means? Are they all uniquely circumsized or something? I mean, what is that? Thank you for your help!
Answer: the epicanthal fold is the fold in the eyes of persons of Asian descent. Its what gives their eyes the " almond" look.
Question: I have epicanthal folds, how can I get rid of them? I am 15 years old and I'm Caucasian, but I have epicanthal folds on my eyes. I am becoming increasingly self concious of them, as i've had various incidences with others in my year when i have been insulted/made fun of for having 'Chinese Eyes'.
What can i do to remove these epicanthal folds?
I would much appreciate any advice/tips, thank you very much :)
Answer: Don't do anything. This is the most articulate, literate posting that I have ever seen from a 15 year old, and I wonder if the background to the insults is that you are rather more intelligent than the unpleasant individuals in your year. You will make the stupid members of the class feel very insecure about themselves and they retaliate with this kind of behaviour which they should have grown out of years ago.
Rise above it - and speak to someone in your school about the bullying.
Question: Why would a caucasian have epicanthal folds if he doesn't have down's syndrome? My boyfriend who is caucasian has epicanthal folds. I have done some research on it, and it is only found with people of asian descent or people with down's syndrome or another genetic condition. He is 28 years old. Does anyone know why he would have this????
Answer: All humans initially develop epicanthal folds in the womb. Some children lose them by birth, but epicanthal folds may also be seen in young children of any ethnicity before the bridge of the nose begins to elevate. They may persist where birth is pre-term, and sometimes also where the mother is alcoholic.
Question: Do I have an Epicanthal fold? http://s187.photobucket.com/albums/x164/…
Answer: Yes, you look somewhat chinese
Question: Why does my full Chinese grandfather have blue eyes and no epicanthal eyelid folds? He has blue eyes, and most of his relatives also lack epicanthal eye folds
Answer: Chinese/Mongolian people towards the North of China have blue eyes. They border on Russia.
Question: Do asians who get double-lid surgery wish that they didn't have epicanthal folds at all? ok so some people might not know what I'm talking about, but here are the terms I'm referring to:
epicanthal fold- the layer of skin connecting the nose and eyes, found in many East Asians. Some epicanthal folds can be either mono-lid or double-lid.
comparison of mono-lid folds to double-lid folds:
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http…
Some asians get surgery to have the double-lid epicanthal fold.
What I'm wondering is, do many people who get this surgery sometimes wish they didn't have an epicantahl fold *at all*?...like most other races? or are the happy with the asian epicanthal fold, but just want double lids? Would they ever get surgery to completely take away the epicanthal fold?
Answer: So it would seem..
Question: I noticed how mentally retarded people have epicanthal folds? why?
Answer: The most common cause of intellectual disability (formerly called mental retardation) is Down syndrome. One of the 117 signs of Down syndrome and one of the most common is epicantal folds. This is also one of the primary reasons it was once called Mongoloidism.
Epicantal folds are caused by premature bone structure of the nose in the case of Down syndrome and other disabilities and can be very common in babies under 3 without disabilities.
Question: Asians and epicanthal folds? I'm Asian and I never had an epicanthal fold as I was growing up. But I do have double eyelids. That's why my eyes used to be more rounder. About two months ago though, it seems I developed an epicanthal fold at the bottom right corner of my eyes. Now my eyes look more almond-shaped and people mistake me for Japanese, Korean, or Chinese.
So does this only happened to Asians, and do only some develop the epicanthal folds?
Answer: ya i was born without the folds but then they developed about a year ago. im pretty sure it only happens asians cuz other races usually already have the folds.
Question: Survival of the Fittest: Epicanthal Folds? Please don't take this as offensive!
I realize how Survival of the Fittest works in some cases--say those with more melanin surviving in a very sunny area and having children with a higher chance of having a higher level of melanin. But what about epicanthal folds? Why is this trait unique to--somewhat--East European and Asian areas?
Thanks.
Answer: > Survival of the Fittest: Epicanthal Folds?
Doubt it. I'm betting that this is a founder effect genetic drift thing. The epicanthal fold doesn't make people with it more fit.
> Why is this trait unique to--somewhat--East European and Asian areas?
They're all descended from one dude who had this odd mutation. Google for "founder effect." I bet that some day we find out that the epicanthal fold is caused by a gene duplication. Further, I'll bet that the original of the duplicated gene is on chromosome 21.
Question: European with Epicanthal folds? By ethnicity, I'm half Slavic (Polish/Czechoslovakian) and half English. However, I've noticed that my eyes are a bit unusual. I have what appears to be slight, or rather underdeveloped, epicanthal folds. Epicanthal folds are what gives many individual of Asiatic descent their uniquely shaped eyes. To my knowledge, I have absolutely no Asian ancestors, so why are my eyes shaped the way they are? I have a "double eyelid" so to speak, but the shape of my eye begins to slant slightly towards the inner corner, with the shape being awarded by a fold of skin. The best way I can explain it is that it appears as though the epicanthus is present, but it doesn't fully connect to the skin at the corner of the eye/bridge of the nose. If I pinch the skin between my eyes, these folds disappear. Maybe they're just extra skin? The Most people don't notice that my eyes are any different from other Caucasians. I don't have a genetic disorder. At least not to my knowledge. I possess no physical abnormalities and my IQ is above average. So are there any instances of individuals of Slavic descent possessing eyes like these? I noticed my cousin possesses similarly shaped eyes, but her "epicanthal folds" are even less pronounced than mine. Besides the two of us, nobody really has eyes in my family like this. What's the deal?
Answer: My sister does too. And we are Scandinavian, English, Scottish and French.
This really isn't a genealogy question. You might get better answers over in genetics.
also called epicanthal fold
fold of skin across the inner corner of the eye (canthus). The epicanthic fold produces the eye shape characteristic of persons from central and eastern Asia; it is also seen in some Native American peoples and occasionally in Europeans (e.g., Scandinavians and Poles).
Question: do a lot of swedish people have epicanthal folds similar to asians?
Answer: No.
