Skin Tag
A benign fleshy growth commonly found on the neck, under the arms, and on the eyelid
Question: skin tag????????????????????????? my dad is a nurse an lpn and i got a skin tag and i aked him what do i do with it and he said you cut it off and i said dose it hurt and he said he dosent know that what i want to know if it hurts when you cut it off
Answer: It is not a good idea to cut it off yourself. That will most certainly hurt. Depending on the amount of blood flow to the area, you may bleed too much. Its a very minor procedure done at your Dr.'s office. They usually put some kind of cream (lidocaine) on the skin to numb it. Its not very painful if you let the doctor do it. Then again, if its a really small one, you could ask your dad to get some EMLA cream or cold spray where he works and cut it off for you at home. Its not a very big deal. But please don't do it yourself. You may even end up with an ugly scar.
Hope you get it removed soon.
Question: How do you remove a skin tag from your genital area? I have 2 skin tags growing on the shaft of my penis. Does anyone know of any home remedies to get rid of them. Insurance does not cover skin tag removal. It is considered unneeded cosmetic surgery.
Answer: yes, but it will be painful in your area. I would suggest before you try this to get drunk to numb the pain. Get some fishing string and wrap around it and pull both sides and it will cut it off. Then clean with rubbing alcohol and cover up.
Question: How long does it take for a skin tag to fully grow? About a dozen or more skin tags started appearing on my neck last year and still they are growing bigger. it's been exactly one year now. also another skin tag that was there for about three years is still growing and has changed from skin colour to black. is it cancerous? how long does it really take a skin tag to fully grow? the one that has been there is about half a centimetre wide now. the others are still small but getting bigger by the day.
Answer: there is no definite time for skin tags to fully grow up. however, the skin tags are not cancerous too.
Question: How do you take off a skin tag without using any chemicals? I have a tiny but really annoying skin tag on my arm, but I don't want to use any chemicals or go to a doctor and freeze/ burn it off. Is there an easier, less painful way to take it off at home?
Answer: Hi -
You can tie a piece of thread around the skin tag in order to cut off the blood flow. It will eventually fall off. Another method I've read about but I've never tried, some people have recommended putting nail polish on it and they say it will make it fall off.
Good luck!
Question: How to remove a big skin tag at home? My boyfriend has got a big skin tag on his back and he would like to remove it. I read you could remove them at home, and considering it's on his back, I have to do the removing. I heard you could cut it off, but I'm a big baby and don't want to accidentally hurt him.
Then I read you could tie a piece of string around it so that it dies, and fall off within a few days.
Would this only work on small skin tags, or would it still work on a big skin tag (the size of a raisin). Or would it be dangerous?
Answer: Hey there. I have snipped skin tags off before but they were real tiny. I'm not sure how big I would be comfortable with as far as that method goes. I've not tried the string method but have heard it can work but might be painful while you wait for it to fall off. Might be worth a try though. I don't think it is dangerous per se, just uncomfortable. You can also have them removed at the doctor's. I had a couple removed that way years ago but they charged about $150 for a 5-minute procedure which I thought was ridiculous.
Another way I've heard of is putting nail polish on it, but I'm not sure if that really works or not.
Good luck!
Question: What product works well to remove a skin tag? I looked through all of the answered questions similar to this, but didn't find an appropriate answer. Doctors tell you to let them do it, I believe to make money. A doctor told me to cut them off myself with surgical scissors and slap a band aid on it.(make sure it is a skin tag not a mole!) this works great. My problem is I have one on my eye lid, I am not trying to walk around with a band aid over my eye for 2 days.
Answer: Suture is often used to restrict circulation, fine grade fishing line is a similar kind of thread.
Take proper advice, but the principle is merely that - a loop tied tight around the base cuts the blood supply, the tag dies, dries and falls off.
I expect you'll need an extra pair of hands, so see if a doctor advises that and can effect the remedy..., it's hardly more complicated than tying a shoelace, so the cost cannot be too great.
Question: How do you stop a skin tag from bleeding? My friend just cut off a small skin tag on her neck, and now it's bleeding moderately. We put ice on it which slowed it down, but we put antibiotic/a band aid on it and it's bleeding into the band aid pretty badly.
Will it stop on its own eventually? Just kind of concerned.
Answer: Yes. Take a washcloth/paper towel or anything like that and apply small pressure to the skin tag to make it stop bleeding. My father has them and he's been in the same situation before. Just apply pressure and wait for it to stop. Hope this helps!!
Question: What is the difference between a skin tag and a mole? I went to a dermatologist yesterday, and got a general skin exam. I have a few moles that i wanted to get checked out, just for good measure since skin cancer runs in my family. The nurse who was examining me was not particularily polite or interested in making me comfortable while she examined me, so when she said dismissivily, "thats a skin tag" about a bump that happens to be in an awkward area, I didn't question her. I have always had the mole/skin tag, and always believed it to be a mole. I read online that moles are something we are born with, and skin tags are developed later on, usually later in life (I'm 18), so I'm wondering if she could have been mistaken. I guess it only really matters since I plan to probably get it removed, and because moles have the possibility to become cancerous. Could she have been wrong, and what exactly is the difference between the two? Thanks.
Answer: skin tags hang like tags. moles are like circular raised areas. you can get either removed easily. I don't think skin tags can become cancerous. I got my moles removed with a do it at home 20 minute herbal paste. I got it from here: www.wartmoleremover.co.uk Cheap and you can do it in the privacy of your own home
Question: What is the best way to remove a skin tag? I have 2 on my neck that are small, but are still noticeable. I just want them gone!!!!!!!!
I have heard that tying a piece of thread around the skin will cut the circulation off and make the skin tag fall off, but im a bit worried that this may not work. What happens if I do this and the skin tag doesn't fall off and I cant get the string off????? Does this really work?
Does cutting it off with cuticle scissors work?
How about the nail polish method?
Any other method will be fine, so mention it!

Question: How to remove a skin tag with some sort of string at home? What is best sort of string to remove a skin tag? and the process of removing it with the string.
be detailed as possible.
Answer: You can use a dental floss, a sewing thread or a fishing line.
you just tie the string around the base of the skin tag to stop the blood supply to its tissues.
After a few days the cells that form the tissues of the skin tags die and the skin tag falls off.
Obviously, if the skin tag is too small, then you may not be able to remove it by tying a string around its base.
Fortunately, there are other possible safe ways for removing skin tags like using duct tape, tea tree oil, or other herbal extracts.
I just would like to warn you though, that you should not try to use herbal extracts on skin tags if you have them on you eyelids.
Question: Any ideas on how I could get rid of a skin tag? I have a noticable skin tag just above my breast. I think it looks ugly & really want to get rid of it. Any home remedies on how I could remove it?
Answer: By searching "skin tag remove", I found an answer on this site.
Tie a string around it, tight but not too tight. It will eventually fall off.
Neat!
Question: Can my small skin tag be removed by my primary doctor or do I have to go to a dermatologist? It was already told to me by a RN that is was a skin tag and it is
to small to tie a string around it. Can a regular doctor remove this
or do I have to go to a dermatologist? How do they remove it? Do they numb it before? I have insurance but I assume it doesn't cover even though its irritated by clothes all the time so about how much do they charge? Thanks again!
Answer: Some family doctors will remove them and some won't. Call the office and ask. If he will do it, go there. If not, go to a dermatologist. He can snip it off, with or without numbing it (depending on the size). He would do it with sterile scissors. Also, depending on the size, he could use a numbing topical or a numbing injection. It will take a matter of seconds. I have no idea what he would charge as the cost would vary from doctor to doctor and state to state but it would not be much. If you have insurance, all but your co-pay would cover the cost.
Question: How do I get rid of a skin tag on my eye lid? I have a skin tag on my eye lid. Why is it there and how do I get rid of it?
Answer: ABOUT:
They typically occur in characteristic locations including the neck, underarms, eyelids, and under the breasts...occur in locations where skin rubs against other skin or clothing.
They are much more common in middle age and they tend to increase in prevalence up to age 60.
Hormone elevations may cause an increase in the formation of skin tags.
Skin tags are a type of growth or tumor, albeit a completely benign and harmless one. Tags are not cancerous (malignant) and not found to have potential to become cancerous if left untreated.
REMOVAL:
There are several effective medical ways to remove a skin tag, including removing with scissors, freezing (using liquid nitrogen), and burning (using medical electric cautery at the physician's office).
Usually small tags may be removed easily without anesthesia while larger growths may require some local anesthesia (injected lidocaine) prior to removal. Application of a topical anesthesia cream prior to the procedure may be desirable in areas where there are a large number of tags.
Dermatologists (skin doctors), family physicians, and internal medicine physicians are the doctors who treat tags most often. Occasionally, an eye specialist (ophthalmologist) is needed to remove tags very close to the eyelid margin.
I hope this helps! :)

Question: What are the risks of Hemorrhoid skin tag removal? Will it leave a huge scar? Are there any complications, side effects or post-surgery scarring ?
The skin tag hangs down and covers the anus. Is there an alternative non-surgical removal?
Answer: Indications of surgery are very limited now. Generally speaking, first and second degree hemorrhoids almost always resolves with conservative measures, even many cases of third and fourth degree responds to conservative measures. Also, cases not responding to these measures should be tried first with non-operative procedures as rubber band ligation before surgery i.e. surgery is reserved to cases not responding to any other measures.
Conservative measures cure most cases of hemorrhoids and are also necessary in any case to avoid recurrence. They consist of dietary changes, mainly in the form of increasing fiber in diet and drinking a plenty of water (8-10 glasses daily), bowel habit retraining, behavioral changes and some herbal remedies known to be helpful for hemorrhoids.
Stapled hemorrhoid surgery, or procedure for prolapsing hemorrhoids (PPH), has recently become prominent.
PPH is an excellent alternative for treating internal hemorrhoids not amenable to conservative or nonoperative approaches. Short- and medium-term results are excellent. Patients with minimal external tags and large internal hemorrhoids are easily treated with PPH and skin tag excision. Operative resection is sometimes required to control symptoms of internal hemorrhoids.
This site give some more information about conservative hemorrhoid treatment.

I know that moles and skin tags are slightly different, but I read that some dermatologists freeze skin tags off, so I thought that this might work.
