Panniculectomy
Surgery to remove an apron of excess skin and underlying fat from the lower abdomen
Question: looking for surgeon for medically necessary panniculectomy who excepts united healthcare upfront? looking for dr in kansas city or phoenix area that will work with insurance to get approval before surgery.
Answer: call your health plan... there is a member services number in the back of your id card. member svcs will give you a list of all the surgeons in the US that will do that surgery.
Question: What would the additional cost of a tummy tuck be if a panniculectomy was done covered by insurance?
Answer: Check with your insurance. Mine was covered by insurance and I simply had to pay the co-pay which came out to 20.00 every time I went to see the plastic surgeon. All in all it came out to about 100.00. Now if you are having problems after your surgery, don't wait to go see your physician. There is a 3 month overlay where the cost will be covered by your insurance.
Question: what are the risks for having a infraumbilical panniculectomy? "tummy tuck"
Answer: What are the risks?
A tummy tuck is commonly performed and generally safe. However, in order to make an informed decision and give your consent, you need to be aware of the possible side-effects and the risk of complications of this procedure.
Side-effects
These are the unwanted, but mostly temporary effects of a successful procedure, for example feeling sick as a result of the general anaesthetic. Side-effects of a tummy tuck include:
considerable bruising - this can be painful and take a month to clear
swelling - this may not completely settle for a few months
scarring - this usually fades over the course of a year, but won't completely disappear
Complications
This is when problems occur during or after the operation. Most people are not affected. The possible complications of any operation include an unexpected reaction to the anaesthetic, excessive bleeding, or developing a blood clot, usually in a vein in the leg (deep vein thrombosis, DVT). Specific complications of tummy tuck are uncommon, but can include:
infection - this may need antibiotic treatment and sometimes surgery
bleeding under your skin (haematoma) - this may require surgery to stop the bleeding and drain the area
numbness - this may last several months, but can be permanent
damage to internal organs - this may require surgery to repair, but can be fatal
unusually red or raised scars (keloids) - these can take a long time to heal
The final position of your belly button may be off centre, and there's a small risk of losing your belly button completely.
There's a small chance that a blood clot can form in the blood vessels and move to the lungs. This is called a pulmonary embolism and can be life-threatening.
It's possible that you may not be completely satisfied with your appearance after the operation.
The exact risks are specific to you and will differ for every person, so we have not included statistics here. Ask your surgeon to explain how these risks apply to you.
Question: will insurance pay for panniculectomy for hernia and spondylosis problems?
Answer: You'll have to call the number on the back of your card and ask.
Question: what is the difference between an abdominoplasty and a panniculectomy? Average cost for each?
Answer: "Plasty" refers to a reshaping.
For example a rhino-plasty is a reshaping procedure for the nose and an abdomino-plasty is a reshaping of the abdomen (tummy).
"Ectomy" refers to the removal of something. For example, a lump-ectomy is the removal of a breast mass and a panniculectomy is the removal of the extra skin and fat of the bulging abdomen.
In one case, it is a simple removal and the other is a more complex total reshaping.
The average cost for each varies widely depending on the location and surgeon involved.
Question: Has anyone here had a panniculectomy? (Plastic surgery to remove the "apron" of skin left behind after a loss in belly fat.)
If you have, how long did you feel pain?
Also, I love to surf, swim, and dance. How long would it take me to get back to these activities?
Answer: Yes, what you mention is also known as a tummy tuck or abdomen dermolipectomy. You'll feel some pain a few days after the surgery, and you'll have to avoid sports for about 30 days. Question: Abdominoplasty versus panniculectomy - which is better? What are the advantages / disadvantages of abdominoplasty versus panniculectomy? I'm considering both procedures.
Answer: Panniculectomy is the removal of the loose (excess) skin and fat tissue below the belly button (umbilicus). Nothing is done to the (possible/probable) loose skin above the belly button. It is strictly to help remove the overhanging skin that is trapping moisture and creating a hygiene and chronic rash problem. It is not meant to improve your overall body shape.
An abdominoplasty is the removal of the loose (excess) skin and fat tissue from the abdomen (stomach area) with transposition of the skin around the umbilicus (the belly button doesn’t usually get moved, the skin around it does) and often tightening (plication) of the abdominal muscles. This creates a more pleasing shape as it addresses the entire abdomen. It is not just a functional surgery, but a cosmetic one.
I PERSONALLY THINK U SHOULD SEE A SURGEON AND HE'L TELL U WHAT IS THE BEST PROCEDURE IN YOUR CASE..HOPE IT HELPED : )

Question: I would like to find a Doctor who will accept OHIP coverage for a Panniculectomy.? I have searched and contacted several Dr.'s in Ontario and all have declined OHIP coverage. I don't want a full tummy tuck done just the extra skin (pannus) removed. I went through gastric bypass to not be fat and now I am not fat but I have this excess skin that causes other problems with sores that occur because of it. My family Dr. will sign saying I need this surgery done but I can't find a Dr. who will accept OHIP coverage. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: The reason you can't find a doctor to accept OHIP coverage is because it isn't covered by OHIP, despite what your family doctor believes. It remains a cosmetic solution in the eyes of government. However, if you develop skin ulcers that are prone to serious infection, the specialists may reconsider. The reason for this is because the surgeon will have to prove that it isn't cosmetic, and without damning proof, they will not be able to.
That being said, since it is considered cosmetic, the cost of the procedure is deductible as a medical expense on your tax return.

Question: Help! Currently looking for Health Insurance!? I am looking to get health insurance, but I have no idea where to start. I am in good shape after a decent weight loss, but still overweight. A concern of mine is that the insurance company would be willing to cover a panniculectomy (as most insurance companies do, and it's partly due to back problems), but I have no idea how to go about finding an insurance company that would cover that. I am self-employed so I can't go through any employers. Any suggestions?
Answer: healthquotes.awardspace.info - my family have this health insurance. It is affordable and has good coverage for dental issues.
Question: Pannieculectomy surgery? Has anyone had panniculectomy surgery, and what were your experiences with it?
Answer: I had a tummy tuck 3 years ago and the results were absolutely amazing! My stomach is flat again!! I had 8 pounds of loose skin removed. I still have a scar almost from hip to hip, but it is getting much lighter.
The only thing that is still weird is that my surgeon had to cut a new hole for my belly button and I never regained feeling there. The recovery was long and very painful...but definitely worth it. I stayed out of work for 3 weeks and had to stay overnight at the hospital because I have a heart condition and they just wanted to be careful.
I also bought a cushion from http://www.contourliving.com/p-21-backmax-body-wedge-cushion-sets.aspx It kept my back propped up and made life so much easier. My doc said I had to sleep at a 45 degree angle for the first 4 - 6 weeks.
Oh, and ask about the Pain Pump. I don't know if all surgeons offer it or not, but you should ask. It releases pain medication for 3 days, I think I would have gone crazy without it.
I hope this helped.
Good Luck!!!
Question: can any Doctor do a panniculectomy surgery or does it have to be a plastic surgeon? I have had a gastric bypass in 2007 and I get terrible sores under the skin flap, that keep coming back . My Doctor will give me a referral if I can find a dr who will accept Ohip coverage to do it.
I live in London Ontario but will travel if need be
Answer: Plastic surgeons does this specialized surgery. It's good to get one that has a good history of doing them. St. Margaret's in Pittsburgh has a bariatrics surgery program that helps someone through the whole process. They educate you before any type of weight reduction surgery, then one of the best doctors in the country does the surgery. You follow up with him and when you are ready, they will send you to a plastic surgeon that specializes in whatever it takes to get rid of loose skin. They all work together which makes things a lot easier for the patient. They like to wait at least a year after gastric bypass has been done.
Question: is panniculectomy cheaper than tummy tuck? im considering a surgery to remove some excess skin from my abdomen..anting to know cheapest route
Answer: Panniculectomy costs include three fees: local or general anesthesia fees, facility fees, and surgeon's fees. Only an estimated range of costs can be given, average total fees range from $8,500 to $10,000. Alot of times a pnniculectomy is done while doing a tummy tuck.
The cost of a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) includes three fees: the anesthesia fee, the facility fee, and the surgeon's fee. The surgeon's fee is the most difficult to predict without first knowing the extent of the procedure and the qualifications of the plastic surgeon. Average fees vary significantly, from $3,000 to $8,500. The anesthesiology fee is typically $500 to $700, and the facility fee is $700 to $1,000. The surgeon's fee is typically $3,500 to $6,000.
