Question: What is the difference between a DMD and DDS? Can a Doctor of Dental Medicine do less than a Doctor of Dental surgery? If so what?
Answer: They are exactly the same. No difference between them.
Question: What software does Stern Pinball use for their DMD animations? It doesn't have to be just Stern. It could also be disbanded companies like Williams/Bally, Data East, Sega, and so on. I'm also asking because I'm working on a Future Pinball project which involves such animation.
Answer: Sounds like a good question for the rec.games.pinball newsgroup. You're much more likely to get usable information there than you are here on Yahoo! Answers.
Question: can i go to dental school for DMD or DDS without doing college ? can i go to dental school for DMD/DDS without doing my college if i am going to take the sat subject test ?
Answer: I do not know of any dental school that would admit you without first taking the college prerequisites for enrollment. These include chemistry, anatomy, etc.
Set your sights for knuckling down and taking the required courses knowing that you are working towards a great career. Anything worthwhile takes time and dedication . . . no shortcuts.
Good luck.
Question: The Michigan School of Dentistry DMD program doesn't accept transfer students. What does this mean? Does that mean that I can't get my associates degree in dental hygiene at a different college first and THEN transfer to Michigan for their DMD program?
Answer: It means that you cannot enter the DMD program after that program has begun./
Question: What is the difference of a DDS and DMD? I know DDS is [Doctor of Dental Surgery] and DMD is [Doctor of Dental Medicine], when you have a DDS, do you complete surgery and more complex check - ups and as a DMD do you complete the other stuff, also who picks which degree you get
Answer: There is NO difference between a DMD and a DDS, both dentists receive the very same training. I myself received a DMD degree and I perform all of the same functions and procedures as someone with a DDS degree. Check this website below for more information:
http://www.ada.org/public/topics/dds_dmd…
Question: Why does the DMD start the root canal on a tooth, then send you to an Endo surgeon to complete the process,? costing more money thatn if one dentist did the entire job?
Answer: because apparently once he got it started he saw something that beyond his ability. Sometimes people's roots are really curved or even calcified. They don't know it till they drill your tooth. So they do what is best for you, the correct thing, and send you to a specialist.
Question: Is there a real big difference to a dentist with a DMD and DDS? To the dental school I am heading to there is only DMD degrees. DMD Dentists can also perform same procedures as DDS dentists?
Answer: DMD and DDS are like Bob and Rob... same guy, two different names.
Good luck in dental school!
:)
Question: What does it mean when your DMD finds a circular-squiggly mass below the root of a tooth in the jaw-bone? My DMD took two x-rays. In both x-rays...the mass was present. She referred me to an Oral Surgeon, and he also took two x-rays. (The x-rays from my previous DMD show no mass below the roots. I had x-rays taken less than two years ago). I had a biopsy today, and my DMD said that she will have my results in a few days. Could this just be a cyst? Can a mass just disappear? Is this normal?
Answer: sure, it could be a cyst. if you had an excisional biopsy (meaning they hauled the whole thing out) then problem solved. usually.
That what oral surgeons are for, solving those tricky little problems!
a lot of cysts are pretty harmless, but some are nasty and some are recurrent. the worst case scenario (unlikely, so don't freak out!) is something destructive where they'd have to section out a chunk of jawbone. HOwever, seems like you caught it pretty early, so that's good.
Just make sure you stay on top of it! good luck!
Question: what does it mean if you dmd somebody on twitter? Everyone says i dmd you. but what does it mean? like replied to or what?
Answer: Dm stands for 'direct message'. You can view your direct messages by clicking on the link on the right hand side of your Twitter home page that says "Direct Messages" (who'd have guessed?) and next to it there should be a number of how many direct messages you have received.
Basically a direct message is a message that only YOU and the person who SENT the message can read. It's for private conversations and details that you don't want the whole world to know :)
Question: Are there any non-accredited dental schools in the US to earn a DDS or DMD? I know it sounds silly, but I'd like to go to dental school without having a year of physics first as all the accredited schools require. Thanks!
Answer: You could not be certified to take the boards anyhow, so suck it up and take physics. Hey, it took me twice to make it through physics (true confessions), but I made it. I dare say I have never ONCE used anything I learned in physics in the practice of dentistry, though. Ditto for calculus. 31 years and not a bit of physics or calculus was ever required.
Question: Can you change the DMD chip on a DLP screen from 720p to 1080p? I bought a 720p when the 1080p's were way high in price and am wondering if I should have waited a few more months. My question is if it is possible to change a Samsung 720p to a 1080p by replacing the DMD chip? I was sitting around and thought this up but i havent been able to find anything to support my idea so if anybody is knowledgeable or knows whether or not its possible I would much appreciate it.
Answer: First off, a DMD is nothing more than an array of tiny mirrors which are individually controlled to either reflect or not reflect light. They are not measured by 720P or 1080i, or 1080p or 540p, they are measured the same way any digital display device is measured; Horizontal vs Vertical pixels, or in this case, mirrors. The video scaler is what you are talking about messing around with, and it wouldn't make any difference whatsoever.
In any case, the DMD chip is part of the DMD drive assembly, which is matched to that specific chip. There's a lot more than just the DMD chip in that assembly.
If you have a product capable of displaying 720p, you are going to be just fine for quite a while. There are no sources of video which require a higher resolution than that.
So, to answer your question... No, it isn't possible to change out a DMD chip.
Question: I need 6 front teeth caped. Should I have a dentist with a DDS or a DMD do it? My dentist suggested I have an existing front tooth cap replaced & while I'm at it have two teeth on one side & three on the other capped.Should I have a dentist with a DMD or a DDS behind his name do the work? Or one with another degree behind his name. My regular dentist does not do that kind of work.
Answer: Your regular dentist does not do regular dental work?? I don't think you are seeing a regular dentist, are you seeing a periodontist?
Anyway, the Dr. above is right. DMD=DDS. Harvard could not translate DDS to Latin so they made the DMD degree. The dean or a dental school decides which degree to confer on the student body, although they usually do whatever the school has always done.
Look for a dentist who does cosmetic work by asking someone who has had work done and you like the way their teeth look. If you don't know anyone then go and visit the dental offices in the area and ask to look at some before and after pictures.
Good luck.
Question: How can someone with DMD might develop heart failure and ineffective respiratory movements? help!!!
Answer: DMD sufferers have degenerative muscle tissues that are unable to function effectively. the dystrophin gene that is damaged would mean that the protein structure in the muscle cells are incomplete
Question: Why do 8% to 10% of female carriers of the DMD gene have DMD phenotype or muscle weakness?
Answer: All women carry the DMD gene, in fact they have two copies - one on each X chromosome.
What you are asking about are carriers of DMD mutations. In this case, the women have one normal copy of the gene on one X chromosome and one damaged copy on the other X chromosome.
One possible explanation is that there is haploinsufficiency. That is, in order to be healthy, a woman would need to have two healthy copies of the gene. However, since most carriers do not have muscular problems, and all carriers have a damaged copy of the gene, haploinsufficiency is not the answer for this gene.
As you probably know, soon after fertilization, a female embryo inactivates one of the X chromosomes in each cell. The choice is random, and the net result is that in most women about 50% of the cells express each X. However, in some women, the X inactivation is skewed so that most cells express one X and only a few express the other.
When this skewed inactivation occurs, and the X that is expressed is the one that carries the DMD mutation, then most of that woman's cells will be expressing the damaged gene. So, in most of her muscle cells, the mutation phenotype will prevail - i.e. she will have myopathy, or even full blown muscular dystrophy.
The reason for skewed X inactivation is that the inactive X actually carries another mutation in another gene. When that X is expressed, the mutation is lethal to the cells, and so the only cells that survive in the early embyo - and which go on to make the woman - are the ones that carry the DMD mutant-containing X.
Hope that helps!
Question: What's the difference between a DMD and a DDS. Is a DMD an oral surgeon?
I meant is a DDS a surgeon? I'm asking because I'm having a tooth extracted and last time I had a DMD send me to a surgeon. This time, the doctor is a DDS and he says he can do it himself.
Answer: The 2 degrees are both the same. Either one can do oral surgery if they feel qualified. An oral surgeon is a specialist who has 3-4 years of additional schooling after dental school. He also has a MS behind his DDS or DMD degree.
Question: what are the chances of a child that has one sibling with DMD to get the same illness? THE DAY AFTER I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT, I FOUND OUT MY 7 YEAR OLD SON HAS DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY. NOW I ALREADY KNOW THAT ONLY BOYS GET DMD AND THAT GIRLS MAY HAVE THE SAME BUT MILDER SYMPTOMS OF THE ILLNESS. IF MY UNBORN CHILD IS A BOY, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT ARE HIS CHANCES OF HAVING DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY.
Answer: There is a 1 in four chance that you will have another son with DMD. It depends on the sex chromosomes. The possibilities being that you are carrying a girl with chromosomes XX (unaffected) or XXd (carrier) or a boy with chromosomes YX or YXd. If you are carrying a boy with YX chromosomes then he will not have DMD but if you have another son with YXd. Prenatal diagnosis of the condition is available so I'm sure your doctor will offer you this choice. Good luck, I hope that you have a healthy baby :)
Question: For a Dentist's title, what is the difference between a DDS and a DMD? So what's the difference and which one would be better to go to?
Answer: No difference at all. It just depends on where they graduated from. They are qualified to do the same thing and no one is better than the other!
Question: does anyone know the basic price to get stem cell treatment in china for DMD? Duchennes Muscle dystrophy( DmD) i live in canada
Answer: Hi,
I live in Vancouver-over 3 years ago I had stem cell treatment ,in China, for spinocerebellar ataxia-I'm doing great. My treatment cost was very reasonable ( considering I stayed almost a month ( with my father-accomodations are inclusive for 2- daily therapy, stem cells ). They are the world leaders in treatment/research and offere EXCELLENT care. I'm not sure if they treat DMD but you can enquire about everything-they are very approachable-I went to a Beike Biotech facility, they can be reached through their site:
http://www.stemcellschina.com/
I can also give you a direct contact:
[email protected] ( Matthew Ungar is very helpful & will answer your questions as best he can)
I also suggest:

http://www.xcell-center.com/ ( in Germany )
I also have a Facebook "Stem Cell Recipient groupo that can be very helpful & also know of some other usefulk forums. Good luck and you vcan reach me again here, if you like....
Chris =)
Question: why did my DMD refer me to endodontics for root canal ? is there a one stop type of dentist that does all tooth and gum care?
Answer: Time is money in the world of denistry. My guess is your dmd utilizes the clock to his benefit. Maximum patient input over little work to the individual equals more bottom line. Also in doing root canals, he would have to pay more attention to what he is doing and pay a little higher premium in insurance. And believe it or not...some dentists have never done a root canal, other than in school. Perhaps they received a C- for root canals 401 and simply don't like doing them.. The biggest reason you got refered is your dentist doesnt like doing root canals...... so remember to brush after every meal and floss daily... cj
