Keratin
A protein substance that forms the outer layer of skin, hair, and nails
Question: What is the effect of Keratin treatments on curly frizzy hair? I have curly, frizzy hair and I'd like to try a Keratin treatment to smooth the frizz. However, I don't want to lose my curl or the body. Will the Keratin treatment make my hair straight and limp? Or will I still be able to achieve curly styles?
Answer: I wouldn't recommend them. There are many brands of hair straightening out there and they call them anyway they want to get your attention. Coco is another name brand. Some Japanese hair straightening processes can damage the hair and leave it flat and lifeless.
None is better than the other.
Keratin are not approved by the FDA. Visit their website & search for it in their web. If you're thinking about the Brazilian treatment, there's a danger about using formaldehyde, a chemical that causes cancer. The FDA does not restrict the use of that chemical in cosmetics.
Relaxers are for permanent, but they are damaging to hair.
Go to the FDA website & type in permanent or relaxers so you understand what are the side effects.

Here's the newest news:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently seized tens of thousands of bottles of "Rio" hair relaxer products after determining they can cause severe hair loss or turn hair green.

The FDA last month warned consumers not to use "Rio Hair Naturalizer Systems," a product imported from Brazil and sold through television infomercials by World Rio Corp. of Los Angeles.
The official complaints against hair straightening products range from serious hair breakage and hair damage to serious scalp burns that may require an emergency room visit.
Example of what one suffering severe hair loss after Japanese Hair Straightening from YA HAIR:
I got my hair rebonded back in March and have lost more than a third of it since then. Everytime I run my hands through my hair, I lose 7-10 strands on average!
In the shower I lose clumps after shampooing and conditioning.
Bald spots are showing up in my hair.
I used to have beautiful thick hair, ho can I get it back?
Another ex: I used to have very curly, beautiful hair..and then i got it chemically straightened..DONT DO IT! when it started growing out, it was mess and even more difficult to work with than before. and once it was completely grown out, my hair was no longer curly..it is now this aweful wavy mess, and only certain spots are still curly.

I know hair. I have 4 decades of hair know-how. I have silky, shiny, soft, smooth very healthy hair down to my knees. Previously damaged by perming & dyeing in the 80's & 90's. I've known people in their 30's whose hair stopped growing from ironing their hair in the 70's.
Question: What is the best Keratin Straightening treatment? I have been using Keratin treatment to straighten my hair, but the last few times i did it, it didnt work as well as the first few times. I tried a different product, but i cannot rememeber what i used the first time. Does anyone know what is the best on the market to get the best straightening effect?
Answer: My personal favorite is the Brazilian Blowout!
Question: How does the brazilian keratin hair treatment work? should I get it? I have very tight curly hair that is frizz prone. My sister got the japanese relaxing treatment done but she still has to flat iron her hair every day and it looks pretty damaged. I want to know if anyone has gotten the brazilian keratin treatment done, how it works, how it turns out, whether or not you have to flat iron every day, about how much it costs, and how you rate it. Thank you so much!
Answer:
ITS IMPORTANT TO READ ABOUT THE VERY SERIOUS HEALTH RISKS: "Stylists and clients often wear gas masks or other protective equipment and still may feel the ill effects of this potentially fatal gas. Brazilian treatment often contains high concentrations of formaldehyde, a cancer-causing chemical."
"Brazilian Keratin Treatments aren't dangerous only to the stylist. It is theorized that repeated treatments will cause formaldehyde buildup in the hair, releasing formaldehyde fumes every time a patron blow dries or hot-irons her hair. There has been at least one documented death from the treatment."
"Its major ingredient is formaldehyde, which is classified as a human carcinogen by the International Agency on research for Cancer, part of the World Health Organization. In short, it can cause cancer. The solution contains 10 times more than the 0.2 % that is determined to be safe by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel, a group of scientists and doctors who assess and set recommended safety standards for cosmetics ingredients."

Question: What is the difference between Keratin and Brazilian straightening? I have recently got a keratin straightening, but someone else told me a brazilian may be better for my circumstance. What is the difference between the two?
Answer: who ever told you that doesn't know much about it. the brazilian and keratin are pretty much the same thing. the Brazilian uses a protien called keratin to make the hair smooth and stratight.
Question: How long does the Brazilian Keratin Treatment last, and what happens to your hair afterwards? How long does the Brazilian Keratin Treatment last, and what happens to your hair afterwards?
Thank you for your answers!
Answer: I have had the brazilian keratin done three times in a little over a year. I LOVED the first one and immediately announced that I was forever sold on it. I spent $300 on it plus a $60 tip. I went back 5 months later to get a second one from the same person. It was a different brand and was the same amount of money and I didn't like it. The third one I went to ULTA b/c they were having a special on it for $185. This one was the worst. I got it done in Feb and it's May and my hair is FRIED. I have split ends so bad and if they're not split they are bent. Now that I have been reading up on peoples' opinions I am finding more people are not having luck with it. I almost want to wash my hair with a sodium shampoo just to make it come out. It never made my hair straight...what I was looking for was a shorter blow-dry time, silky hair, and for it not to go crazy in the humidity. In all honesty I feel like I got a good month or so of somewhat decent results and for the money it is hardly worth it. I hear people are having better luck with something called La Brazilian (or something like that) I know ULTA used the Coppola on me and I am not sure what my first two were.
Good luck!!
Question: What is the best salon to do the Brazilian keratin treatment in brooklyn? I want to try a Brazilian keratin treatment, which has become increasingly popular in recent years. Known by several different names, including Brazilian Keratin Treatment (BKT for short, an acronym you'll often see on various hair forums) and Brazilian straightening treatment, as well as various brand names, this is the newest craze for getting silky straight hair.
Answer: I love Brazilian Keratin Treatment. Tried it out of curiosity couple years ago and can't get away from it ever since. Been to so many different places to get it done plus I live in Brooklyn. So you can imagine. Trust me you won't find better place in Brooklyn than Charm Beauty Salon. Check out their website also.
Question: How can you add Keratin to your hair to make it stronger? People say keratin is a lacker in african american peoples hair. I want to know how you can add keratin to your hair to make it stronger.
Answer: you can get it in capsule vitamins from the drugstore, or you can try eating orangey-yellow foods. they are jam packed with vitamins that are good for your hair. examples are carrots, cantaloupe, papaya, sweet potatoes....
also protein is good for nails, skin and hair also... lentils and other beans...having a handful of nuts a day is just enough protein to help you with this...
also, salmon! any fish is usually really good if it is cooked nutritiously and not deep fried.
these are the best ways.. applying things directly to your hair won't help much...
good luck..
Question: What would a Keratin based shampoo and conditioner do for my hair? So i have a flat iron. And as you know Flat Irons are a girls bffff! Well i'm tired of my hair frying. I want to grow my hair out to be nice and long. So my question is, Would a Keratin based Shampoo and conditioner help my hair grow and stay healthy even though I use a flat iron?
Answer: Well, hair is made out of Keratin, so it does help promote healthy hair.
But the best thing you can do is let it go natural.
If you 100% HAVE to straighten your hair, i recomend this ion product. it has Jojoba oil in it. What you do is, you put it in your hair when its wet and then let it air dry. When you straighten your hair, the heat activates these little beads that are in there. It mands split ends so your hair doesn't break off easily.
~Hope this helps and best of luck!~
Question: How well does Keratin hair treatment work on African-American womens' hair? I want to try that Keratin Coppola hair treatment to straighten my hair. Mainly I just want to be able to get my hair wet and have it not go back to all curly and everything.
Answer: Although it appears that the product is intended for straight hair (Caucasian) that is curly to frizzy, if you want to straighten your hair completely, why not try one of the lye or no-lye relaxers available. Lately I've been using Root Stimulator Olive Oil No-Lye relaxer on a few of my clients. The straightening is superb without the burn! I'm not sure Keratin Complex Hair Therapy would be the best choice.
Question: Where can I buy keratin glue to make my own prebonded hair? I have been looking everywhere to find real keratin glue, but I can only find silicone and normal melt glue described as keratin glue, and all comes from China... I made prebonded hair out of this type of glue, and guess what? It melts using the hair dryer !!! :(
Do you know where can I find a supplier for the real keratin glue - strong and hard to melt used in prebonded hair, like great lenghts or socap?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am going nuts with this...
Answer: How much do you want?
What color do you need?
Question: What is the difference between Brazilian Blowout and Brazilian Keratin treatment? I originally was looking at Brazilian Blowout only, but am also seeing things about Brazilian Keratin treatment.
Is one better than the other?
Does one last longer than the other?
Answer: Brazilian Blowout/ Brazilian Keratin Treatment
•Five steps
1. Wash hair with a clarifying shampoo
2. Apply the keratin solution it’s combed through
3. Hair is blow dried straight
4. Flat-iron to seal it in with 425 degrees yet causes no damage whatsoever
5. Rinse with a deep conditioner and dry once more.
•Two to three hour process
•Costs around 190-250-350-700
•Lasts from twelve weeks (very rare) to six months (extended by special acai aftercare products, anti-frizz acai shampoo/keratin shampoo and conditioners.)
•Before booking always ask if its formaldehyde-free
Question: What is the difference between a Brazilian Blowout and a Brazilian Keratin Treatment? I've heard about these treatments before and I've been doing some research. What is the different between a Brazilian Blowout and a Brazilian Keratin Treatment? Which one is better? and What are the prices? thanks everyone!
Answer: They are two different brand names within the same category of treatment (keratin-based curl smoothers), BUT--they have different ingredients and different results. Brazilian Blowout is free of all aldehydes and carcinogens, and fades away naturally; Brazilian Keratin contains formalin, which turns into formaldehyde when heated (as is done during the treatment), and could be hazardous to the health of clients and stylists. It may give a straighter look for longer but you will see curly roots as your hair grows in.
Brazilian Blowout allows the client to see their results on the day of the service, since it is rinsed out and styled in the salon. Brazilian Keratin requires the client to keep the hair ironed straight with the product in it when leaving the salon;
Brazilian Blowout is also the treatment of choice for many celebrities!
im unsure about the prices but you could definety go on the main websites and locate a salon near you and call

Question: How much time you should wait to wash your hair after keratin treatment? I had keratin treatment done, but my stylist said that I should wait 3 days to wash my hair. I am desperate because its been only one day and my hair looks greasy.
Answer: u have to wait 3 days to wash ur hair or it will be ruined. Im getting the keratin done thursday but i know people who have had it done and u have to wait 3 days i also know people who washed there hair b4 then and it was a total waist of 200 dollars. i know it might be hard but according to people i know it is soooooo worth it!
Question: Is it okay to get a keratin hair treatment done, if you have previously rebonded your hair? I have thick curly hair, and i got my hair re-bonded 7 months ago. Is it ok to go for a keratin treatment? Will it damage my hair even more or will it be alright?
Answer: Yes, it's fine. The worst thing it can do is nothing! (:
Keratin is something that your body makes naturally, it will strengthen your hair to prevent from further damage. And since its been 7 months, it's completely fine, esp. if it is damaged!
Hope I helped
Question: What does Keratin Shampoo do for your hair? I heard that keratin shampoo is great for your hair but i want to know if it straightens it. Also what are the best brands for keratin shampoo & conditioner. I've dyed my hair a lot and it's frizzy, curly, brittle and never stays straight for more than 5 min even when i use a really good straightener. What cheap products can i use to make my hair straight and shiny, that lasts a long time and isn't hard on hair. I don't have money for a salon straightening. Any advice would be awesome!
Answer: Keratin can bond to each individual strand, leaving a protective coating that lasts until the next wash. This coating can protect the hair from excessive heat and pollution, while at the same time leaving it bouncy and manageable. Keratin conditioner used after shampooing can produce a more effective overall result.
All types of hair can be improved by using keratin shampoo but it can particularly help frizzy, curly hair. It can repair the core damage done to the hair shaft and replenish the hair. Keratin can even help to straighten the hair by making it heavier. A Brazilian keratin hair treatment can be done to completely straighten the hair, but the results are not permanent. The curls will typically return within three months but the hair will remain softer and more manageable.
Some brands of keratin shampoo contain formaldehyde. If it is absorbed into the skin, it may induce cancer. Using keratin shampoo over a long period of time can also cause hair thinning or hair loss. When this side effect occurs, obvious hair loss may be noticed after the first application. For the first two to three weeks, keratin shampoo may leave the hair lifeless and dull and any natural curl might also be eliminated.
Question: Should I dye my hair before or after my Keratin treatment? I'm getting a Keratin treatment on my hair, and I am also planning on dying it with natural henna dye from Lush. I was thinking I should wait until after the treatment to dye it, or will that mess with the results?
Answer: Shouldn't mess with your results. Do it before too to ensure that it's on there good.
Question: Is it true that the stratum granulosum layer produces keratin in skin? I was wondering this because other places say it doesn't. And how does the stratum granulosum produce keratin in human skin?
Answer: The cells in the stratum granulosum, or granular layer, have lost their nuclei and are characterized by dark clumps of cytoplasmic material. There is a lot of activity in this layer as keratin proteins and water-proofing lipids are being produced and organized.
Question: How long before I can wash my hair after keratin straightening? My stylilst said he uses Global Juvidex keratin straightener and I only need to wait 48 hours until I wash my hair. I heard three to four days--is the product he's sing stonger?
Answer: I heard it was 4 days...
Question: If I have a keratin treatment on my hair and want to remove my hair dye? What should I use? I know some shampoos will rid the hair shaft of EVERYTHING, and I don't want that. I want my keratin to stay but my dye to fade, what should I do?
Ok, I didn't ask about the amount of damage I've done to my hair, but I do want to know what process or treatment to use to get my hair back to its natural color without removing the keratin.
Answer: Don't know which is worst the keratin or your hair dye.
You can do one of two things, to remove most of that dye.
1. By using Tide detergent with shampoo
http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Dye-from-H…
or
2. By shampooing you hair mix with a bit of Dawn.
http://www.ehow.com/how_2139523_use-dawn…
Here's an example what hair stripping will do to your hair.
It is worst than hair dyes.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
Google hair dyes & cancer also. There are those who tan & smoke all their lives & do not get cancer, but there are those 2nd hand & 3rd hand smoke who do and are currently on oxygen because they can't breath or have cancer. Same with hair dyes.
I wouldn't recommend keratin.
