Exfoliation
The removal of upper skin in thin layers
Question: Exfoliation? I have my prom on friday and im having a spray tan, she advised me to exfoliate my skin to get rid of rough skin and dead skin cells, do you know any good products like scrubs that are really good for this & where to get them from? (I live in the uk so anything from there) And anyother tips for exfoliation, please help, thanks!
Answer: try googling!! it always works.. give de ingredients u'd prefer to c in it as well!!
Question: exfoliation? does anyone no of any home made remedies that are good facial exfoliants and make your skin really smooth??
Answer: I use this often.. take some oil (preferably olive oil) and pour it into a small jar that has a lid, or even a small tupperware container. Mix in some regular white sugar until it thickens and forms a sort of paste. Use that in the shower BEFORE you turn the water on. Make sure your skin is 100% dry, or else the sugar will melt. It can be used all over. Once you're done, shower as usual. The oil and sugar exfoliate your skin and make it soft. Make sure to use soap after using this, or else your skin will be too oily. It works great, especially for feet (or anywhere else, actually :o).

I am also looking to see if anyone knows any good tricks/ideas for hair growth and breakage. Any random beauty tips are appreciate also! :) Thanks.

Question: What is that exfoliation/shaving alternative pad I saw on tv? It's this pink hand held pad of crystals and exfoliation stuff that apparently can take off all your body and facial hair. I thought about buy it but can't find it on the internet since I forgot what it's called. What is it?
Answer: It's called "smooooth legs".
http://www.smoooothlegs.com/
I purchased it, and I don't think it's worth it whatsoever. It exfoliates, but it irritates your skin when your trying to remove hair since you are moving the pad in circles in the same area. I did it on my boyfriends back, his back was red and developed rashes that lasted a week. I used it on my upper lip, hurts like a B*TCH! Used it on my leg, developed rashes and bumps, and some part of my skin started to bleed. Save your money and just wax.
Question: What are some products i can use for exfoliation? There is so much stress on exfoliation of the face. What are some products i can use for that purpose? Also,What are some products i can use for body exfoliation?Lastly,Is there any method or "recipe" for something i can mix up out of ingredients that i have around the house, for the purpose of exfoliation? Not only facial, but facial and body both?Thank you for your answers!
Answer: OK, second/third questions first. For body exfoliation, I use three things; salt and olive oil in a paste, rubbed over my body (shower after), a loofah (use while showering) and an exfoliating mitt. The mitt is cotton, nubby like a towel, and it's meant to be used AFTER you get out of the shower/tub.
As for your face. You should never use an abrasive on your face, because it a) causes micro-tears that invite bacterial invasion and inflammation, and b) it pulls the skin so it sags faster. The best thing to use to exfoliate your face is your own clean fingertips. Wash your face for 15-60 seconds a day using a gentle, up and in stroking motion, the lightest possible touch, with extremely clean fingers. This will perfectly remove exactly as much dead skin as your face DOESN'T need, without harming, stretching, or over-exfoliating it. Good luck! BTW there's a link to the full cleansing regime below.
Question: May I know if exfoliation can help to lighten the dark marks on my elbows? I have many dark marks left on my elbows due to pimples on my elbows after leaning too much on them. After the pimples were gone, they left dark marks. I have tried lemon to bleach but it is of no use. May I know if exfoliation helps? Thanks.
Answer: go to skincaretalk.com.
it's like heaven all your answers are there!!!
i've had hyperpigmentation problems tomorrow.
Question: how would a beauty therapist adjust a facial in terms of exfoliation and steaming to suit my dry skin? I'm worried that the exfoliation will aggravate my dry patches and cause break-outs and i don't know if its relevant but i have dilated capillaries on both my cheeks.
Answer: Hi,she would most probably chose a product that will suit dry skin. The exfoliation will remove any dry skin on the surface. If when the exfoliation is applied you feel that it is irritating you, don't be afraid to speak up.What you must remember is, when you first start having your face done it is normal for your face to break out, because you are getting rid of all the impurities from beneath your skin, you are having them drawn out so it is normal.Once the impurities are drawn out that is when you will start see your skin clear up.If your not already, you should follow up with your face cleansing at home everyday.Once you start it becomes like a habit and part of you dressing routine. And the worst you would get out of it would be nice clean and soft skin.(That goes for man and women).Speak to your beautician she will let you know which would be the right products for you.Don't forget just buying the products wont change your skin using it will. All the best.
Question: Is it safe to have a body exfoliation, then sit in the sun? I'm planning a vacation and am interested in a spa treatment while on it. Is it safe to get a body exfoliation treatment, then be in the sun?
Answer: yea it's actually really good to exfoliate before you tan, BUT you should do it in the beginning of the vacation because if you get a nice tan and then exfoliate it will fade your tan alot because it removes all the dead skin cells (which are the ones with the tan). And also, after you exfoliate be careful in the sun and maybe use a higher SPF then you normally do because the new skin that will be exposed will have less of a base, and you may burn easier... have fun on vacation:)
Question: For exfoliating your face, what kind of exfoliation systems are out there? What kind of exfoliation gadgets, tools, procedures, or whatever else is related to exfoliation exists?
Answer: I really like an apricot scrub. Its just a daily face wash. Cheap too. St. Ives Apricot Scrub or I also like Biore Detoxify.
Question: What type of exfoliation do they use for burn victims? I saw someone yesterday said that they did exfoliation that they would on a burn victim to reduce/diminish their stretch marks after birth and I was just curious what regime they would have used?
Because someone posted in the pregnancy section on how to get rid of stretch marks...
Answer: y did u post this in pregnancy?
Question: What items to use for exfoliation? And how to do it? OK so i been getting dry flaky dead skin under my eye where the skin area is above the cheek.
So would exfoliation help this?
And i have no products from the store. So im planning on using my fingers. So What items should I use for the creme of it? Like any home products? Can you just use soap??
This will be my first time doing this so i am pretty novice at this sorry ! I am light skinned black dude by the way so does my skin matter?
Answer: This is something I use all the time, and it uses ingredients that can be found in any household.
You'll need
* a tablespoon of plain white sugar; not too smooth/small. coarser sugar is better, but not too coarse
* half a tablespoon of olive oil (seriously olive oil. not cooking oil)
* teaspoon of honey (you don't HAVE to.. but if you've got it, use it)
The sugar is for exfoliating, the olive oil is for moisturizing, and the honey is for cleansing.
So just mix all those ingredients in a small little container. Then dip a finger in it, and rub it against your skin where its dry. Be sure to rub it in nice, making sure you exfoliate all the dead skin off, and you really work that olive oil into your skin.
Then wash it off, and use a moisturizer or lotion.
Don't do this too often, because exfoliating too much is bad. Just do it as often as needed.
Question: So does exfoliation help clear up pimples? I just want to know does exfoliation help, I have read lots of tips but am wondering about exfoliation.
cheers
okay thank you! I thought it probably does, so how often should I use the stuff?
I am also trying to clean up my diet, more fruit, and water. More exercise, I also tried toothpaste.
so erm mixed results, I think it is helping, although am only getting pimples around the chin and above the lip area, don't want it spread aye.
Answer: It can if the root of your breakouts is clogged pores or skin that does not slough off properly. If you have sensitive skin, exfoliation can irritate it and make pimples worse.
I have sensitive skin that doesn't slough off properly and the best treatment I've found is Arbonne cleanser & moisturizer twice a day and an occasional round of (3-4) light glycolic peels. The glycolic acid is mild and helps clean out my pores without the abrasiveness of physical exfoliation.
Question: Is it better to get a massage or body exfoliation at a spa? do you get massage while you get an exfoliation? I've never been to a spa, so i would like to know.
Answer: It depends on the spa--pretty much every treatment is sort of like a baby massage. I'd go by your skin (do you need an exfoliation?) your muscles (do you need a massage?) and what you like. Massages can be pretty intense, depending on what kind you get. They're not all relaxing. Definitely do some research, and don't be afraid to ask questions at the spa.
Question: How to get rid of uneven tan- body exfoliation? I have naturally tan skin, but being in the sun so much during p.e. this year jhas given me a really bad uneven tan on my legs and arms. I was thinking about going to a day spa and getting a body exfoliation because i heard exfoliation and aloe help you get even skin. Any suggestions? any self experience with this?
Answer: Stay out the Sun or Use Sun screen everyday
Question: What would be a good material to scrub the skin(mechanical exfoliation)? Some soft one, please.I know that pumice is hard for skin. It's good for feet but I need something for shoulders/chest.And I mean mechanical exfoliation, not chemical.
Answer: I would say some kind of body brush, like ones that they sell at Bath & Body Works. Even a loofah-puff thing exfoliates okay. As for the face, I'd say the Clarisonic brush.
Question: What is the difference between an exfoliation and a peeling? I'm not too hot on beauty terms. Is there any difference between the two?
Answer: exfoliating is basically using a scrub or a strong retinoid to take dead surface skin cells off. A peel, at a doctors office, takes a deeper layer of skin off. An at home peel is not much different than a mask or a scrub. When u have peel at a doctors office, its a chemical peel and your face is very red and looks burned, but only for 1 to 2 weeks. Then, after a new layer of skin grows, its fresher and makes you look younger. The basic point of a peel is to remove skin damage and make you appear younger. An exfoliation is something you can do at home with a grainy scrub you can buy at a beauty store or grocery story. More expensive ones sold at sephora or department stores are sometimes better and gentler. The cheaper ones do the job well tho. It all depends on your skin. If your skin is sensitive you might want something gentler and not as grainy. After exfoliation you skin will be smoother and brighter. Chemical peels are also for mature skin or for people with acne scars and deep wrinkles. If you are young, a once a week exfoliation is all you need. Hope that helped.
Question: How does resorption work in the exfoliation of deciduous teeth? Can some one help me out here. Thanks
Answer: The pressure of the crown of the permanent teeth pressing against the roots of the baby teeth causes the roots to literally dissolve away. When the baby roots become short enough, there is not enough to hold the the tooth in so they become loose and fall out. The pressure exerted by the permanent tooth on the baby tooth will also help push the baby tooth out.
Question: What is the best scrubbing tool for exfoliation? My legs are very dry. Every day I use a moisturizer and Vaseline over the entire area. However, when I go to scrub the inside area, it turns red and itchy.
I use Axe body wash (hydrating kind) and a scrubbing sponge.
Anything else I should use?
Answer: Yikes. Sounds to me that maybe the Axe body wash might be irritating your skin. You shouldn't really be exfoliating your legs that often. Try to do it once to twice a week. I believe that Axe products has perfume in it and when scrubbing your skin with a scrubbing tool all it is going to do is irritate your hair follicles. And also perfume dries out your skin. Maybe you should switch to a non scented or a antibacterial body wash. It would help with the itch and the redness as well as the dryness. As for the scrubbing tool.. Use something like body scrub that comes in a container. It may smell fruity or too girly or whatever but just try it. Or you can always make your own home remedy. You can try mixing sugar with oats, and with honey to get your own kind of body scrub. It works fine. Just make sure to use more sugar than the oats and use as much honey as needed. And it does make a mess so make sure you are in the tub or somewhere you can hose yourself down. And as for the vaseline, try using a non-scented vaseline lotion. Hope I have helped.
Question: what chemicals and natural ingredients are good for exfoliation? i want to get into chemistry, but i dont know exactly where to start. any tips?
Answer: There a few of them out there, you could get better feedback from a dermatologist but the good ones that I know are: salicylic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid, malic acid, and fruit enzymes
Question: What is the best exfoliation cream/soap for dirty skin? If possible, a specific brand for soap that can help me get rid of my dirty skin cells. I've always used regular soap but there's always dirt that I can't get rid of. And with exfoliating soap, what do I use with it? A pumice stone, or a regular washcloth, or a loofah? Or is not customary for guys not to use loofahs?
Answer: Before spending tons of $ --mix 1/2 c white sugar with 1/4 c olive oil and 1T lemon juice. rub into skin in warm shower and rinse. The sugar exfoliates, the oil conditions and the lemon juice makes you smell a bit nicer!
