Elastin
Connective tissue found in the dermis that contributes to the skin's resilience and elasticity
Question: Why did you discontinue the elastin/collagen moisturizer. I can not find it in any stores anymore? I have been using the St Ives moisturizer with elastin & collagen and I can not find it anymore in the stores. They told me it was discontinued and they don't know why because so many ask for it. Please let me know why you not longer have that product available.
Answer: It's not sold anymore. Try olay product.
Question: Can anyone help me find a good picture of the protein, elastin? I'm trying to find a picture of elastin in it's molecular level or something to that extent.
And also can anyone explain what a Level 1, Level 2 structure is?
The first picture is pretty good but I was looking more for a human rendering of its molecules. For examplle, the diagrams of water that show two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom as spheres?
Answer: look at this picture.give me some comments...
Question: Is there a vitamin or pill to help increase elastin? Just out of curiosity. I see lotions with CoQ10 and Collagen but is there a vitamin you can take or foods you can eat to create more elastin?
Answer: CoQ10 enhances the work of the mitochondrion byt has no direct action on the formation of Elastin speicifically, it might help improve the mitochondrial activity in the patients with CoQ deficiency, which is a VERY rare condition
Question: can your skin regenerate collegen and elastin if you are a young age? I am still a teenager but I have abused my skin in the past, sun-overexposure and 2 years of smoking. I was wondering, if my skin can repair most of the damage on it's own? I take really good care of my skin now High-end sunscreen with no more smoking.Plus regulary exfoliating and taking herbal/vitamin supplements. Does my skin have the ability to regenerate and heal on it's own, without the use of anti-aging products to keep me from premature signs of aging? My skin has no visable signs of damage. So by taking excellent care of my skin NOW and being so young, do I still have to suffer 10-15 years from now?
Answer: the body has fantastic ability to repair and heal, it's in it's nature, but if you're over 40 you should use anti aging products like serums, vit. C, E, A, and peptide moisturizer,
good moisture mask and exfoliate once a week.
Ho don't forget to get facials once a month.
Question: Your skin gets wrinkly because the collagen and elastin? Quote Your skin gets wrinkly because the collagen and elastin, fibers that help keep skin firm and "elastic", are produced less and less as you get older. Hence, your skin becomes less firm and less "elastic" forming wrinkles. Quote
What is collagen and elastin and how does it work?
Answer: Collagen is a fiber that is the "glue" that holds the body together. It provides the skin with strength, flexibility, and resilience.
Elastin is a protein found in the skin andhelps to keep skin flexible but tight, providing a bounce-back reaction if skin is pulled. Enough elastin in the skin means that the skin will return to its normal shape after a pull. It also helps keep skin smooth as it stretches to accommodate normal activities like flexing a muscle or opening and closing the mouth to talk or eat.
Elastin tends to deplete as people age, resulting in wrinkled or stretched out skin. One might note the “pregnancy pouch” many women have many years after having a baby. In part, the leftover skin is a result of inadequate elastin, and also overstretching of the skin covering the abdomen during pregnancy.
Question: How can I increase my body's production of HGH, elastin, and collagen? I want to increase my body's production of these chemicals.
Answer: i have had great results with truwell's HGH gold to increase my body's production of hgh.
Question: what face products increase skin collagen and elastin? I'm 40 and I'm losing weight so I need to improve the elastic quality of my skin... Any advice?
Answer: Rich, you are born with a certain amount of collagen. That's why a baby's face is so pudgy, and cute. Whereas, a 90 + yr old person's face is bony, chiseled, and leathery. Why because the deposits of collagen are gone. Sunbathing accelerates the loss of collagen. In fact the UV rays deteriorate the collagen at a molecular level. That's why you see people who have spent years sunbathing in their 40's look like they are in their 80's.
The only thing you can do is use sunblock like (Coppertone45, No Ad 45, or Banana Boat 45) when you go outside for extended time in the sun.
To keep the skin smooth soft, and supple, I use Cura Serum by Isabella Pelle. It's a highly concentrated facial lotion with the highest concentration of the best moisturizer known to date; hyaluronic acid. I apply it twice daily, in the morning after washing my face, and at night after I shower. Hope this helps.
Question: how would collagen and elastin added to skin creams be unlikely to penetrate the skin as some ads imply? what would you do to assure that these proteins can go through the skin?
Answer: They are large molecules, and would have difficulty penetrating the skin. In order to penetrate, the skin would have to have its integrity disrupted.

Question: what is the difference between collagen and elastin? Are they both for elasticity and resilence or are they somewhat different?
Answer: Collagen focuses on tensility (tension-bearing) while Elastin is much more elastic and helps return the original position.
Question: can dietary supplements replace elastin in the human body? Elastin is what makes the arteries flexible.
Answer: A zinc complex was recently developed to help restore functional elastin in photodamaged and aging skin. Until this discovery, there was no method to regenerate damaged elastin and restore resiliency to photoaged skin.
Studies in the murine model demonstrated the ability of this zinc complex to increase epidermal thickness, augment hypodermal fat and tropoelastin mRNA as well as increase elastin content.
Recommendations for future studies included studies to measure levels of fibulins, which may be a good marker of functional elastin. Tropoelastin is assembled into fibers through being guided onto a scaffolding by fibulins 4 and 5. The fibulins therefore have to come into contact with tropoelastin and form macro molecules in order to result in functional elastin.
In general, the researchers agreed that it would be necessary to demonstrate more convincingly how the zinc formulation acts to increase elastin production.
Can dietary supplements replace elastin in the human body? Not convincing tests have been yet found, but researchers are working hard to find a dietary supplements “replace” elastin.A zinc complex is the main topic so far.
Take care as always!
Question: The elastin fibres in the wall of the artery help to smooth out the flow of blood.? What happens to theses fibres as the pressure of the blood in the artery changes?
Answer: It is elastic fiber ,so it can adapt it self to any changes in BP.
by the time it will calcify and no more elastic, that called sclerosis, and you have to imagine what will happen .
Question: How can I get more collagen and elastin in my body? ? Is there vitamins or something?
or something i can eat?
Answer: probably the centrum one a day. they seem to have a little of everything. or the herbs isle at wal mart has all sorts of different stuff
Question: There r more elastin fibres in the walls of arteries near the heart than in those further away from the heart? explain why?
Answer: Because as blood is being pumped out of the heart it has such force that the blood vessels near by need to be able to stretch in order to keep up with the pressure that is put upon them. Further down the line the elastin fibers are not necessary because there is not as much stress on the blood vessels.
Question: Will collagen and elastin really help my starting-to-sag face? Which one -- collagen or elastin, or both? What is the difference? Are they effective? At middle age, I think we're stuck with what we've got -- but maybe there's something to this stuff? What do you think? No sales pitches please. Thanks.
Answer: Collagen is the MAIN protein of connective tissue in animals and the most abundant protein in mammals making up 25%-35% of the whole-body protein content.
Elastin is a protein in connective tissue that is elastic and allows many tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching or contracting.
Our skin is held together by these two proteins - elastin and collagen. These two are responsible for keeping the skin firm and elastic in nature. When our skin is young it regains its natural form easily. Our bodies produce enough proteins to ensure this.
When we are more mature, however, we need to replace these reducing proteins - (which gradually decreases every year past 25. This eventually causes our skin to form fine lines and wrinkles and to sag) with a product or products containing collagen and elastin over and above what our body produces.
How do we do this? One way is to get collegen injections in the skin folds or wrinkles. This fills out the area temporarily and makes wrinkles appear less noticeable (they wont get rid of them as this is tissue damage). This only lasts about 3-4 weeks and then you need to have it redone.
No creams, despite what they claim are not going to be of any use in restoring collagen and elastin in skin. Elastin and collagen lie deep in the skin tissue and layers where creams will not be able to penetrate. Collagen molecules are still too big to be absorbed by the skin despite claims by cosmetic and beauty companies to the contrary. This makes the cream practically useless as all its useful ingredients will keep lying on the surface ineffectively plugging up the wrinkles.
Look for products containing Cynergy TK. This natural extract has been shown to raise the collagen and elastin regeneration ability of our body. Active Manuka Honey is another natural ingredient that helps in stimulating elastin and collagen production in the body.
Also look for products to protect the skin from free radicals to stop age from getting a go on like CoenzymeQ10, a powerful anti oxidant. It can deeply penetrate and has a strong antiwrinkle effect on your skin.
Hope this is of help.

Question: three questions about elastin fibres and collagen fibres in arteries? 1. what are they?
2. what is their function?
3. why are they in different quantities in the arteries? for example, elastin fibre is more in aortta than in medium sized artery but both have same quantities of collagen fibres, why?
Please give your answer in simple language. i'm a student of a'levels. thanks. :)
Answer: 1. Collagen and elastin are proteins (proteins are polymers of amino acids).
2. They are structural proteins - they are strong and help to maintain the integrity of parts of the body (ie they hold things together and keep them in the same shape). Elastin has a greater amount of elasticity - this means it can be stretched out but will return to its original size when the stretching force is released.
3. Blood is squeezed from the heart under pressure into the arteries. Enough pressure is required to push the blood all the way through the circulation. To withstand this pressure, the arteries need to be strong but also flexible. Collagen serves this purpose. The pressure and flow waves of blood are transmitted with increased efficiency when the large arteries (eg aorta) have increased elasticity. So the elastin fibres in the aorta help to push the blood through the body, by passively storing and releasing the pumping power derived from the heart.
Question: Touchy subject: do you know of any good lotions/creams without collagen or elastin added? Palmer's has both, along with other ingredients (coco, etc.) and I don't feel comfortable using those ingredients since I've *heard* (I don't know if it's true or not) that ingredients like that come from humans only.
What do you know about this? Sorry if it's a touchy subject.
Answer: Actually, you are completely right about skin products that can and DO contain human collagen.
This is not a touchy subject; thing is, it's not widely known and it really should be.
The fact is, some countries produce expensive and very popular creams--especially for the face--that contain human collagen, but what you might not know is that this tissue actually comes from aborted children or from their placentas and/or from executed inmates. Yes, you read that right.
In the same vein, I wonder if you are aware that all the common vaccines are derived from the cells of aborted children from the second trimester onward? http://www.cogforlife.org/
I have asked questions on my own about face creams, and the ones to avoid are those that are internationally made. What I found out is that the United States (and, I assume, Canada) is NOT allowed to produce creams containing human collagen. HOWEVER, the countries that do produce these creams--especially China and Japan--do sell them over here, so you have to be careful about the source of your products.
If you look on the back and there is the word "collagen" in the ingredients, you need to contact that company before buying the product and ask them if it is human or animal collagen. If it is human, it is NEVER derived in a moral way and you need to avoid that product and tell them why you are avoiding it.
I have had to contact companies before and I know of one Japanese company in particular--called DHC--that does sell products made with human collagen.
So, find out if it is human or animal collagen. If is human, it has been derived from a murdered person, either born or unborn, and the thought of using that just makes me sick to my stomach. By the way, they use the tissue of aborted children or their placentas because it is known to be very effective in face creams, but that is just beyond disgusting. No thanks. I'd rather have the wrinkles.
GOOD question. People will likely think you're strange for asking it because, until today, they were unaware of it.
