Finasteride
Oral prescription medication known as Propecia, used for the treatment of hair loss
Question: finasteride? Is finasteride safe for women to use for hair loss if they are not pregnant
Answer: i thought it shrunk enlarged prostates . if its the pill I'm thinking of , a female should not even handle a pill due to a specific birth defect (hermaphrodites) should she get pregnant in the next year or two .
Question: Using finasteride when you already have gynecomastia? I'm 19 years old, i apparently have a high testosterone level cause my hair is already thinning, I can see the skin of my head through it easily, I have gynecomastia however, and i read that finasteride, to make hair grow, can make gynecomastia appear, but in my case however, would it worsen the current gynecomastia?
Answer: Let me educate you on how the male body works:
As you get older, your hairline matures. This means you may get a small bald spot at the part where your hair spirals (around the crown) and your hairline recedes. Your hair may also thin. THIS IS NORMAL and it happens from the ages of 16~20. It's due to testosterone/DHT levels rising since testosterone rises to it's peak slowly (you have the highest testosterone levels around the age of 20). So you may not be going bald, and you might just be going nuts about it - thus making the problem huger than it actually is (I was guilty of this, unfortunately). Also, if your hair is going to fall out, it's going to fall out. That's how your genes are set.
Onward!
Finasteride (found in Propecia as well) is a drug that curbs the effects of DHT by suppressing it. This is another way of saying "it kills your DHT". Men don't realize how bad it is. You see, testosterone (more specifically, DHT) makes you a man. Finasteride drastically lowers the levels of DHT, meaning you'll have more estrogen since your hormones will be off balance. This is what causes gynecomastia and more estrogen leads to moodiness, weight gain, softer erections, terrible muscle growth rates, and so on. Finasteride usage may also lead to PERMANENT ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION.
Going bald is starting to sound VERY good right now, isn't it?
Your hair is basically dead protein that sits on the top of your head. You can most certainly live without it. DHT, however, is responsible for ALL secondary male characteristics. In layman's terms, if DHT goes, your masculinity goes with it. (Dunno about you, but I really enjoy being a "real" man.)
Things to consider:
Your hair does not define who you are. There are PLENTY of men who go bald around 18~22. Sure it sucks, but they get over it.
You can also use rogaine/minoxidil to grow hair back on the balding spots. Rogaine and minoxidil have some side-effects, but none of them are permanent or bad enough to actually hurt you. It also doesn't mess with anything but the DHT that sits around the bottom of the hair follicles(in your scalp). It's a topical treatment, so it just focuses on the area you apply it. Also, the DHT sitting up at your scalp is 100% useless, so it's okay to get rid of it. Finasterfail, on the other hand, targets a majority of the DHT in your entire body. ALSO! Do not use ANY hair growth products unless you are absolutely sure that you are going bald. Using it if you are not going bald means you will actually go bald until you discontinue using it. If you are going bald due to poor circulation or a medical problem, then you are not actually "going bald" and you won't see results by using hair growth products.
Now, Finasteride isn't entirely bad. Most men seem to have no bad side-effects when it comes to using it. But honestly, I have never seen a skinny long time Finasteride user. So you can expect some form of weight gain (and possibly breast development) if you do use it. Regardless of it working or not, it WILL lower your testosterone levels.
YOU HAVE A GIFT! What I mean by this is, you have the potential to get big (muscular) because testosterone is one of the vital building blocks of muscle building (muscle growth/bigger muscles is a male secondary sexual characteristic, after all). Athletes, bodybuilders, etc. take steroids or other harmful things to boost their testosterone levels, whereas you naturally have a bunch of it. So you can do one of two things, whine about it, or lift weights.
If you do more cardio, your circulation improves. This means DHT does not sit around and circulates throughout your body. This means you'll be going bald at a much slower rate if you are actually going bald. Going bald could also be caused by poor scalp circulation, which is much more common than you think (if you're lazy or wear hats all the time, that may be the cause). Simply massage your thinning areas for 5-10 minutes 1+ times a day.
If you lift weights more, your DHT/testosterone will be used for muscle growth. This means there's less DHT in the system doing nothing, as it will have something else to focus on.
Eating junk food, smoking, drinking alcohol, or taking any harmful drugs puts stress on the body. This stress takes it's toll on your hair, as well as the rest of your body. Eating healthier foods, especially ones rich in protein help hair health/your overall health.
Shampooing/conditioning incorrectly or using harsh hair products may also make it seem like you are going bald. (Dying your hair or using a hair straighter/curler also contributes to bad hair health over time.)
Hair loss can be caused by thyroid issues or skin cancer. 9/10, this is NOT the case for balding men. But if you have other symptoms associated with thyroid issues/cancer, then you should go to your general care physician (family doctor/normal doctor) to get checked out.
Question: Any way to get propecia or finasteride without a doctors prescription? i dont have a medical plan right now so i dont have a doctor to get the prescription. is there any way to get finasteride without it?
Answer: you can use the site I use which is called The-Drug-Store.com, they have really reasonable prices and good customer service if you need to ask a question or track your package.
Question: Does minoxidil and finasteride help in re growth of hairs? Does minoxidil and finasteride help in re growth of hairs?
I m losing my hair too much. Pls help.
Which one of them is good for male and how much does it cost?
Answer: There are severeal forms of baldenss. If it is male pattern baldness (Androgenetic alopecia) then the hairloss cannot be fully cured in most
cases, but just frozen for some time with the treatments availiable on market today.
1) Hair transplant (FUE technology) creates really natural hairline, no scars, the best way to go if you have enough donor hair and money of
course.
2. Propecia (Finasteride) and Minoxidil are the only ones approved by FDA and proven to work in most men so far.
Generic Propecia (finasteride) is also ok. I use it with same results, and unfortunately same sides(a bit dry feeling in the scalp) as brand
propecia. Have tried lots of herbal crap before it and laser combs, so far the only thing that prevents my hairloss, not much regrowth, but
has stopped my hairloss completely.
I buy from this pharmacy for the last 2 years - http://www.savemoneyrx.net/generic_prope… . It is under $1 per pill as I buy the 90
pills. (89$ for 90)
Question: Could I take finasteride 5mg cutting the pills instead of propecia 1mg? If I can cut the (Finasteride) 5mg, the generic Propecia, into 4 or 5 pills would that be the same is taking the propecia 1mg
Answer: Yes, its called 'quartering'. A lot of people do that with the 5mg Proscar brand. Hope this helps.
Question: Will I lose more hair if I stop Finasteride ? I consumed both Finasteride and Minoxidil for about a month. Rash appeared around my neck, chest and face. My face had been swelling since I took the medicine, at that time I didn't think it were the finas and mino that cause the affect. I seek doctor advice and stop using the medicine. My question is will I lose more hair if I stop finasteride?
Answer: Propecia (same as your drug) is effective only for as long as it is taken; the hair gained or maintained is lost within 6–12 months of ceasing therapy
The Propecia side effects include an allergic reaction such as skin rash, itching, hives, unexplained swelling, wheezing or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
It seems you suffered the allergic reaction
Question: How do you get Finasteride prescribed to me? I'm starting to lose a little hair but I hear this stuff is great and I'd like to prevent it from happening more. What steps should I take to get this and what type of doctor should I see?
Answer: Personally, the risk is too high. Just let the hair go, it probably will anyway. I would rather be bald than impotent, or have man boobs. How bout you?
Question: Does Finast (finasteride) pill has permanent side affect? Will it work against frontal hair loss? My brother(32 years old) has genetic frontal hair loss problem. He takes Finast (finasteride) 1mg dose daily with doctor's prescription. But he is scared about it's side affects? please give your advice and opinion about this. If you know any other treatments for this problem please let me know.
Answer: as we know - hair loss can be caused by many different reasons! There are many causes of loss of hair such as stress, poor nutrition ,medications, thyroid dysfunctions, illness, fungal infections ,hormonal problems, to mention a few.
year ago my husband suffered very much from dandruff and hair loss too and he started trying everything you can imagine to stop his hair loss. the things that really worked for him was:
1) Vitamin A - an anti-oxidant which promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp;
2) Vitamin E stimulates circulation. Good blood circulation in the scalp is important in keeping hair follicles productive. The 'B' vitamins contribute to melanin, which gives hair its healthy color and also stimulates blood circulation;
3) massage is also beneficial. Massage stimulates circulation. As already noted, good circulation in the scalp keeps hair follicles active. Experts suggest a few minutes of daily head massage by hand. Circulation through massage may be improved by using a few drops of lavender or bay essential oil in an almond or sesame oil base with massage;
4) Try rubbing your scalp with garlic juice, Onion Juice or Ginger Juice (you can either of one out of three, Do not mix any of two or three);
5) also he used herbal treatment - TrichoZed and Provilluss (do not use Rogaine - it will not work!)
Those are a good products that helps prevent hair loss and contains Biotin and the clinically tested ingredients approved by the FDA to help re-grow your hair.! I think it is very important!
It worked and still works for him!
I do not know if any pharmacies carry TrichoZed and Provillus but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here
http://www.trichozed.info/ingredients.ph…
and here
http://www.provillus.com/?aid=221781
It enhances hair growth by blocking DHT (Dihydrotestostrone) - a major cause of hair loss!
Also Informative video about Provillus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ydvCHhbR…
good luck!
not only my husband`s own personal experience + working as a family physician

Question: Where can I buy cheap finasteride online from a legit website? Ughhh the hair is horrible :(. Propecia at Walgrees, Walmart, Publix, or anywhere will pretty much run me about $70 for 30 pills!!. I can't afford that. Does anyone know where I could purchase them online from a reputable website for a cheap price. I have found some but I don't know if they are trustful.
Answer: Bless your heart. Genetics rule - you cannot re-program genetics.
Many guys spend a small fortune trying to outrun baldness with pills, lotions, creams, foams, wigs, weaves & transplants - but in the end - they still must accept the inevitable and get on with the rest of their lives.
Life is not always the way it's supposed to be. It's just the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.
People using Rogaine - when they stop using it - lose everything they've gained.
Propecia & Avodart have waaaaay too many side effects you don't EVEN want to deal with.
See side effect warnings listed below.
Side Effects of Propecia - for the Consumer
Propecia
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. No COMMON side effects have been reported with Propecia . Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Propecia:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); breast enlargement, lumps, pain, or tenderness; nipple discharge; testicular pain.
Question: How can i get on finasteride or minoxidil at age 17 for hair loss? I just turned 17 ten days ago and i noticed my hair line is thinning. My hair is thinning in the two corners of my hair line. My father went bald really early. I looked at his hair and I don't believe we have Alopecia or anything like that. like, his hair line recedes and makes that "M" shape.
What can I do to stop it and have my hairline again?
Answer: Your hair could be thinning for many different reasons so do nothing until you see a dermatologist (a skin doctor) so he/she can determine the cause. An office visit with a dermatologist will probably cost around $75 if your family doesn't have insurance. The dermatologist will give you treatment options depending on the cause of your hair loss.
Be very skeptical of home remedies, herbal supplements, and alternative holistic medical treatments because they are usually silly, foolish, and have NOT been proven to work in human clinical studies. There's a lot of information out there regarding hair loss but most is based on junk or pseudo-science.You can find credible information about effective hair loss treatments on PubMed by going to the links below. If it's not listed on PubMed then don't trust it.
See a dermatologist!
Question: Does husband taking Finasteride decrease chance of becoming pregnant? We have 2 kids and would like 1 more. My husband was taking Finasteride for about 3 years and we tried to get pregnant but couldn't. He stopped taking this med because it is expensive and 2 months later I was pregnant. Our baby is 1 yr old and we have been trying for 3 mos to get pregnant with no luck. He told me he started taking the Finasteride again about 5 mos ago. Is this med known to interfere with conception?
Answer: Basically, finasteride interferes with testosterone metabolism and anything which interferes with testosterone metabolism can impact on male fertility.
So: YES. .....and there is science to back it up. Here is an article.http://www.scielo.br/pdf/rhc/v59n4/21389…
I think the fact that yougot pregnant with your youngest child after your husband came off the finasteride speaks for itself..
Hope this clarifies things.
Best wishes.
Question: Where can I order Finasteride online? I need a site that has prices for Finasteride in the €uro currency, that would deliver it to Southern Ireland and would accept payment by other means than credit card. Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Answer: Top o' the Mornin' t' ya. Is it yersilf?
I thought you were looking for that famous fairground attraction in Britany and wondered how An Post could get it into one of their little, green vans.
To the best of my knowledge, Finasteride was originally developed to treat prostate cancer and is only available on prescription. If there's a topical form, you should be able to buy it in a large pharmacy.
If one assumes that American retailers will ship stuff to the Emerald Isle, you may be able to order tablets on line from the US but there's always a risk that they will be intercepted.
The only kosher source is going to be one of those hair-loss clinics. Many of them have web sites.
Question: Has anyone had any problems with Finasteride? I am almost losing my erection. Should i keep using it?! Or should i switch to Minoxidil ?
Answer: First consult your doctor rather than taking advise from here.
Question: How can I prevent inflamation from finasteride/Propecia? It's happened to me twice already...once with Avodart (dutasteride) and now with finasteride (generic Propecia). After a year or so I start to get all kinds of inflammation problems. These are:
-dull ache in prostate
-pain in left knee
-pain in left testicle/epydidimitis
Aspirin or other anti-inflammatories help, but what other options are there short of stopping fin altogether? Current dose is .25 mg daily.
Answer: What makes you think its the propecia. The only side effects listed are an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
Other, less serious side effects have been reported but usually resolve with continued treatment. Continue to take finasteride and notify your doctor if you experience
decreased libido (sex drive);
decreased volume of ejaculate;
impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection); or
breast tenderness or enlargement.
I have been taking for 3 years and am very satisfied. You may want to go to a urologist, or a new urologist
Question: What are the exact risks for taking finasteride (propecia) as a 17 year old? If I am satisfied with my physical development, what risks could there be? I feel that it is necessary to start taking it, so will I get away with it?
Answer: You Are male?
Then you are most likely okay ....
Who should NOT take PROPECIA?
PROPECIA is for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in MEN ONLY and should not be taken by women (see A warning about PROPECIA and pregnancy).
PROPECIA should not be taken by children.
Anyone allergic to any of the ingredients.
A warning about PROPECIA and pregnancy.
Women who are or may potentially be pregnant:
– must not use PROPECIA
– should not handle crushed or broken tablets of PROPECIA.
If a woman who is pregnant with a male baby absorbs the active ingredient in PROPECIA, either by swallowing or through the skin, it may cause abnormalities of a male baby’s sex organs. If a woman who is pregnant comes into contact with the active ingredient in PROPECIA, a doctor should be consulted. PROPECIA tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the tablets are not broken or crushed.
Question: what results did you have with finasteride? i'm wondering about people's results after taking finasteride. Did it work? Were you pleased with it? Any side effects? What should I expect? Know of the best and cheapest places to get it? What dosages should I take. Any info would be great.
Answer: When you go to the doctor to get a prescription for finasteride (Propecia) your doctor will prescribe the correct dosage and inform you of possible side effects. Don't take your chances with online pharmacies.
Question: Anyone have shrunken penis and testicles 16 days after stopping finasteride? I had to quit it after getting an allergic reaction, caused my ears and face to swell up really bad and get really itchy. (but at least my wang was working) now all of the sudden my junk seems smaller and i cant get a stiffy.....any advice (please dont say go see a doctor) thats obvious....
Answer: Well, you're preventing DHT from being created. You should expect problems. Don't be an idiot.
Question: Can finasteride be taken in 10mg dosages? I'm wondering if it would be a waste (of medicine) to take more than 5mg per dose.
Answer: You should ask a doctor about this!
I have to believe it depends on what you're taking it for.
For hairloss taking more than 1mg/day is a waste
For prostate issues I believe 5mg/day is the standard dose.
See your doctor.
Edit: And for anyone reading this women who are of child bearing age and could become pregnant shouldn't take, or even handle, finasteride (aka Propecia, Proscar).
Question: How to buy finasteride? How to buy finasteride in Canada, Quebec Montreal? Where can I go? Is it possible to get it without prescription?
I can't reply to people so I will write here. For hair loss. Yes, I know it's effects, but I haven't taken any before in my life and so I don't know if I'm compatible. It is also difficult to find people who use it in my region.
Answer: Finasteride is A Scheduled Drug in all the countries all over the world and cannot and should not be baught without prescription...
Its a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor and causes lots of effects and is indicated in specific conditions like Carcinoma prostate etc.. Why do u wanna have it..??
Question: Why was finasteride licensed for the treatment of hairloss rather than Dutasteride?
Answer: To receive an indication by the FDA (approved use), the drug manufacturers have to submit an ANDA (abbreviate new drug application), as well as fund multimillion dollar studies. If the manufacturer sees no additional monetary value in seeking additional indications for their drug products then they have no cause to expend millions of dollars.
