Conjunctiva
The inner lining of the eyelids and eye
Question: How do I make the white part (conjunctiva) whiter? My eyes have red lines with a not so white looking conjunctiva. They are not yellow, not jaundice looking. Please help, want wedding pictures to be perfect.
Answer: i've heard and read that intestinal cleaning really whitens the whites of the eyes. if you have sufficient time and money to invest in this, i think you should look into it.
also, they sell these gummy worms or bears on Sephora.com that's especially for whitening the whites.
since it is your wedding, you will want to look your best and having bright scleras make people look healthier and more youthful and make the eyes look wider.
Good luck !
Question: What is the difference between the cornea and conjunctiva? I have trouble identifying them,? I cannot find a diagram that clearly shows both their relative positions in the eye? I know both are protective membranes so they are quite similar in function.
Diagrams would be of great help (if possible)
Thanks a lot!
conjunctiva cannot be seen without lifting the eyelid. Whereas cornea can be seen all the time (unless asleep).
Answer: The conjunctiva is the membrane that covers the interior of the eyelid and covers the eyeball up to cornea; the cornea is a clear layer of evpithelium that covers the anterior chamber. The junction is called the limbus.
Question: difference between cornea and conjunctiva? i want to know where are the boundaries of the cornea and conjunctiva. i think both are protective layers but can't be specific about there locations . if there is a descriptive image provided i would be thankful.
Answer: The conjunctiva is a clear membrane that covers the sclera (white part of the eye) and lines the inside of the eyelids. It is made of epithelial tissue.
The cornea is the transparent front part of the eye that covers the iris, pupil, and anterior chamber and is a continuation of the tough outer vsclera layer of the eye.
Labelled diagram in link.
Question: what is the procedure called when you make an incision into the conjunctiva?
Answer: Conjunctival incision.
Question: Is it ok to name my daughter Conjunctiva? ..i think the name has a nice ring to it.
Answer: ...and people wonder why their kids get beat up at school. Conjunctiva might be a good handle name on Yahoo Answers but it doesn't make a good name for a child.
Question: can hiv infection occure by exposure of conjunctiva to hiv infected blood?
Answer: The answer is YES . . . However the chance is very less that is, if you take adequate Post-exposure prophylaxis.
In the health care setting, workers have been infected with HIV after being stuck with needles containing HIV-infected blood or, less frequently, after infected blood gets into a worker’s open cut or a mucous membrane (for example, the eyes or inside of the nose).
HIV is found in varying concentrations or amounts in blood, semen, vaginal fluid, breast milk, saliva, and tears.
Question: Why is the conjunctiva transparent, even though it is highly vascular?
Answer: The conjunctiva is not as highly vascularized as you might think. Indeed, it has very noticeable blood vessels but it is not nearly as vascularized as many other tissues in the body. This low level of vascularization is actually why the conjunctiva is transparent. If it were truly highly vascularized, it wouldn't be transparent. The blood vessels would block the transmission of light.
Question: I have a brown spot in my conjunctiva(white area that surrounds pupil)? It's half cm in diameter and painless. What could it be???
Please help.
I ment that it's in the whit area surrounding my cornea which is called (( conjunctiva)) and conjunctiva is the transparent layer covering the sclera.
Answer: its probally a freckle, yes u can get them on ur eyes, if not it can be a cancer, go to a doc
Question: My cat's conjunctiva is showing, but its not red or anything. I thought it was pink eye, but it isnt? its not red
he's not squinting
The conjunctiva is just visible and he doesn't seem to be in pain. And the vet is out of town for a prolonged time period
Answer: Usually that's a symptom of illness. Call the vet's office, and see who is taking over for the time he's out of town.
Question: Has anyone heard of Cancer of the conjunctiva? If so, how was it treated and what was the outcome?
Answer: Pinguecula and ptergyium are benign growths of the conjunctiva that can result from chronic actinic irritation. Both typically appear adjacent to the cornea at the 3- and/or 9-o'clock position. A pinguecula is a raised yellowish white mass on the bulbar conjunctiva, adjacent to the cornea. It does not tend to grow onto the cornea. However, it may cause irritation or cosmetic blemish and, although rarely necessary, can easily be removed. A pterygium is a fleshy triangular growth of bulbar conjunctiva that may spread across and distort the cornea, induce astigmatism, and change the refractive power of the eye. Symptoms may include decreased vision and foreign body sensation. It is more common in hot, dry climates. Removal is often indicated for cosmesis, to reduce irritation, and to improve or preserve vision.
Question: I have this veins in my conjunctiva? ...and they are blue not red. These veins are not visible, they are only under the left lower eyelid. They do not cause vision problems. But sometimes I feel my right eye kind of heavy and I might even say that my eye slightly hurts. I would really want to know what they are. Anyone?
Answer: Can you provide us a photograph of your 'veins' ?
Since your eye hurts, it can be uveitis (an infection of the eye) and the vein may be sentinel vein but in the conjunctiva the color should have been red and not blue !
If they really are blue, I can't help wondering if they actually are veins or maybe some areas of scleral thinning.
Question: Is the conjunctiva the fornix? ? is the conjunctiva (pink part of the eye) the same as the fornix? are they just two different names for the same thing?
Answer: Fornix = the junction between the posterior eyelid and the eyeball.
Conjunctiva = is a clear membrane that covers the sclera (white part of the eye) and lines the inside of the eyelids. It is made of epithelial tissue.
Conjunctiva IS NOT PINK.
Question: cornea and conjunctiva? How are they different? Aren't they essentially the same?
Answer: Cornea is the transparent membrane that covers the Iris (Colored part) and has a refractive power.
Sclera is the white part of your eye surrounding the Iris.
Conjuctiva is a transparent membrane that covers the sclera and Eyelids. The part of the conjuctiva covering the inside of the eye lids is called "Palpebral Conjuctiva". The part that covers the Sclera is called "Bulbar Conjuctiva".
Hope that helps =)
Question: My 2yr old son has a bump on the conjunctiva of his eye & it's also red in corner of eye, what could this be? the corner of his eye is red (it looks blood-shot) and the bump is in the redness on the conjunctiva part of his eye (it's on his actual eyeball)
Answer: It sounds like a bad stye
go see a doctor about that but in the mean time try holding a warm wet wash cloth to his eye but if it is on his actual eye that could be pretty bad
Question: where bilirubin is collected in jaundice in sclera, conjunctiva or in space between them ?
Answer: In tissue between them if the level of bilirubin is more than 2mg percent in the blood .

Question: Should I continue to life weights when I have a small subconjunctival hemorrhage? I believe strenuous exercise caused a blood vessel to burst underneath my conjunctiva. Now there is a distinct red spot on my eye. Does this mean I have to stop working out? It might get worse if I continue to do so?
Answer: Ask your doctor.
Question: What causes the whites of eyes to change colour? I once ate some ice cream in a foreign country. It was lime green and after eating it it sent the whites of my eyes(think its the conjunctiva) the same colour as the ice cream. Is there a name for this, or, what causes this to happen?
Answer: The conjunctiva is the clear mucus membrane that covers the eye and forms the lining of your eyelids; the sclera is the white part of your eye.
I've only heard of the sclera changing colors due to jaundice or as a result of a genetic condition (blue sclera). Blue sclera can also be caused by some medications, steroids, or anemia.
But if your sclera changed as a result of eating ice cream, there was something very strange about that ice cream.
Question: Could you please explain the functions of the listed parts of a cat's eye? I am making a diagram of a cat's eye for school, and I'm not too sure what these parts do...
The Conjunctiva, the Iris, the Lens, the Cornea, the Vitreous, and the Optice nerve. Please help, this counts for 2 grades in science. Thank you.
Answer: Hi there...here are a couple websites which explains the anatomy and functions of the feline's eye:

Question: could i get hiv by splashing blood to my conjunctiva?
Answer: If this happens in an operating or emergency room setting, the standard is to have HIV testing protocols and prophylaxis if the blood was known to be infected or has any possibility of being infected.
Transmission is possible so an evaluation is a good idea.
