Benzoyl Peroxide
An antibacterial medication used to combat the bacteria that aggravate acne.
Question: Benzoyl Peroxide? Mmm I heard that Benzoyl Peroxide helps your face alot, and gets rid of your pimples. I bought some, but haven't used it yet.
Does it really work?
Or does Salicylic Acid work better?
Answer: Benzoyl Peroxide is just a simple acne treatment. It will work better than Salicylic Acid, but it won't guarantee clear skin.
Try using Duac. Its a perscription cream but it contains benzoyl peroxide along with antibiotics which will help the acne much, much more.
Use it for topical treatments, and it will do wonders. Good luck.
Question: Benzoyl peroxide? When using benzoyl peroxide 4% creamy wash, do you NOT use soap? Do you JUST wash with the benzoyl?
Answer: Skip the benzoyl and just use the soap...
1. BenzaClin Topical Gel Safety Information
"Benzoyl peroxide has been shown to be a tumor promoter and progression agent in a number of animal studies. The clinical significance of this is unknown." "Benzoyl peroxide in acetone at doses of 5 and 10 mg administered twice per week induced skin tumors in transgenic Tg.AC mice in a study using 20 weeks of topical treatment."
2. Free radical generating agents lead to the rapid progression of benign skin tumors to carcinoma in iron-overloaded mice.
"Inorganic peroxide (H(2)O(2))-mediated malignant transformation was also enhanced effectively by iron."
3. Benzoyl peroxide promotes the formation of melanotic tumors in the skin of 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-initiated Syrian golden hamsters.
"Therefore, in addition to its known ability to promote papilloma and carcinoma formation in the back skin of mice, benzoyl peroxide is also able to promote the formation of melanotic tumors in the dermis of hamsters."
4. The function of benzol peroxide in the induction of Syrian golden hamster tongue carcinoma by chemical carcinogen
"CONCLUSION: This study indicated that benzoyl peroxide could increase carcinogenesis of golden hamster tongue which induced by DMBA. Consideration of promoting agent should be taken in carcinogenesis as well as carcinogen."
5. The treatment of skin carcinoma, induced by UV B radiation, using 1-oxo-5beta, 6beta-epoxy-witha-2-enolide, isolated from the roots of Withania somnifera, in a rat model.
"...followed by topical treatment with benzoyl peroxide, a tumor promoter (20 mg/animal/0.2 ml acetone) twice a week for 1 month..."
A search in PubMed, an online directory of medical studies throughout the medical community, shows over 113 studies relating to benzoyl peroxide and skin cancer. Over 2/3 of these show a causative association between benzoyl peroxide and skin cancer.
Question: benzoyl peroxide.? What dont they sell benzoyl peroxide in the stores.?
I figured instead of buying things like Proactiv, and all the other products there main ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide so i would buy that.
Answer: They have Benzoyl Peroxide in any drugstore with different concentrations...
Question: What is a good benzoyl peroxide acne wash? I have tried a 5% benzoyl peroxide and didn't see any results. I want to try one with 10% benzoyl peroxide but I am wondering which one is the least drying but still effective. My main acne problem is blackheads and I head benzoyl peroxide is very helpful at getting rid of them. Does anyone know an effective, inexpensive face wash with 10% benzoyl peroxide? Thanks!
Answer: the Clean and clear continuous acne wash
Question: Can benzoyl peroxide change the color of your lips? I've been using benzoyl peroxide acne medication for a week or so. I apply the lotion to my face before bed every night. It's a Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% lotion by Neutrogena advanced solutions.
I noticed slight yellowing around the edges of my upper lip. I'd applied the lotion around my lips (not on them) as well as all over my face.
Is it possible for the benzoyl peroxide to discolor my lips, or am i just being paranoid? If discoloration is possible, would my lips return to the normal hue?
Answer: well it made my hair and eye brows blond so... im sure it could of
Question: How well does benzoyl peroxide work when dealing with acne? I Just got some benzoyl peroxide gel today from my personal doctor. I know its not going to clean up my acne(mild) over night. I would like to know how long it usually takes and, or how well it works.
Answer: Anyhow, don't go out and buy those "get rid of your acne in one day" pills that you can find anywhere online, they just don't work and you will spend your money for nothing.
Why not? Well, because it takes time to get rid of acne and you will need at least one week to see any noticeable results. There is absolutely no way to treat your acne in only one day.
You may use an over-the-counter treatment that contain substances such as benzoyl peroxide (gel or cream) or salicyclic acid. Start with the lowest strength and apply once a day about half an hour after washing. Never use more than 5 percent strength without consulting a physician.
Don't pop, pick, scratch, or squeeze your pimples. This may cause infection and scarring.
thanks bye tc ..
Question: How long will benzoyl peroxide take to work on my skin? Im using benzoyl peroxide 5% because i have these small bumps on my face, these bumps can only be seen when light hits my face. How long will benzoyl peroxide take to work or should i use something else?
Answer: I use benzoyl peroxide 10% before I go to bed, and my pimples are gone the next morning.
Question: In what order should I use benzoyl peroxide and cetaphil? Should I clean my face with cetaphil, and then apply the benzoyl peroxide? Should I apply the benzoyl peroxide, rinse my face, and then use the cetaphil? Should the cetaphil be used before and after use of benzoyl peroxide? Any help would be great, btw my skin is very dry.
Answer: hmm.... i'm thinking maybe you'll want to use cetaphil last because the benzoyl peroxide can be harsh on your skin so the cetaphil will make it feel smooth. btw i use cetaphil too and it doesn't dry out my skin! hopefully it does the same for you.
if you're still not sure, you could ask your dermatologist, or a dermatologist.
Question: Is it bad to use benzoyl peroxide at the same time with salicylic acid? I use a benzoyl peroxide face wash then a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment and as these dry out my face, I use a salicylic acid moisturizer. Is this a bad idea? Should I only be using one at a time?
Answer: Idk about you, but I use both. I use a face wash that contains salicylic acid and an acne gel that contains benzoyl peroxide. My skin is fine, but you should ask a skin doctor (either an esthetician or a dermatologist) about it.
Question: How does Benzoyl Peroxide work, and why is it so murderous to my skin? I am 16 and have been applying 10% Benzoyl Peroxide every night (after washing with Neutrogena Gentle Facial Cleanser) for just over a week now. After switching from sporradic Salicylic Acid use to BP, I responded well and quickly initially, and even had one day without acne... Now, however, it's just a bit better than it was before I began the treatment. The problem, however, is that my skin (especially my chin and cheeks) is now constantly horribly dry and flaky, though I apply a light moisturizer at least five times per day.
Any explanations about how BP works or suggestions about what to do for this condition... Should I stop or continue with the BP? I have mild to moderate acne and would love to be at least partially clear and not flaky by the time school begins in a week. Thanks a ton for any suggestions you can offer! =)
The moisturizer that I have been using has an SPF of 15.
Answer: Benzoyl Peroxide is basically removing the top layer of your skin, which also reduces your skin's ability to protect itself from the sun. That's not something you should be doing every day. Perhaps every week if you really must but you're going to badly age your skin and make yourself more susceptable to getting sunburn.
Use one of the facial scrub type products that remove dead cells from your skin non-chemically, but only once a week, and leave out the chemicals. Use a moisturiser and something with a little sun protection factor each day, a facial scrub once in a while and your skin will look lovely :-)
Question: After applying Benzoyl Peroxide to your face, how soon after can you use lotion in the same area? I'm using the non-prescription version of benzoyl peroxide and it dries my face like its suppose to. But my face gets very dry and i when i tired applying lotion on my face about an hour later, my whole face started to feel like it was burning.
How soon after applying benzoyl peroxide to your face can you apply lotion? Is it okay to use both?
Answer: I use both, but I don't get a burning sensation...you may be very sensitive or maybe you should try different lotions
Question: How many products that contain benzoyl peroxide do you use a day, and how many times do you use each? Manufacturer studies are based on only the use of one product, as instructed.
Benzoyl peroxide CAUSES cancer - the more you use, the more likely you're trading a couple of pimples for acres of cancer.
Benzoyl peroxide breaks down immediately upon contact with the skin, true. Because of the chemical reaction WITH skin cells. Or why not just use the two benign chemicals?
Answer: "Benzoyl peroxide breaks down in contact with skin, producing benzoic acid and oxygen, neither of which are significantly toxic.
When applied to skin benzoyl peroxide has been shown to induce cancer, but only when used at 100% concentrations; it has not been shown to do this at the far lower concentrations used for treating acne, and at lower concentrations benzoyl peroxide has not been found to be mutagenic or carcinogenic."

Question: How do you cure a benzoyl peroxide burn on skin? Hi guys I really need your help. Recently I had a zit and I applied benzoyl peroxide on it and I think i applied too much and my skin burn to a brown patch. How do I cure it ?
Answer: I had the same thing happen to me. Go to the store (like CVS, walgreens, etc) and buy a zinc cream its pretty affordable, it will heal the patch but only use it a few days or it will dry your skin out and make more pimples since it has pertolium jelly and if you have any problems with it stop using it. Just apply a layer of it and leave it on, I don't rub it in since the skin sucks it in anyways. They also have zinc pills that speed up your bodys healing process they would be located in the supplement section of the store ~Good luck.
Question: Is there any way to remove benzoyl peroxide without causing bleaching? I accidentally got a little benzoyl peroxide on my shirt, which I know bleaches fabrics once water is added. However, I know where I got the benzoyl peroxide on my shirt... Is there any way to remove it without bleaching the shirt? Thank you!
I forgot to mention, the colour is gray.
Answer: No, since benzoyl peroxide removes color, there is no way to reverse it. You didn't tell us the color of your shirt, but if it's a light color in the beige range, you can bleach the whole shirt if the fabric is organic. So sorry....
Question: How can I get benzoyl peroxide out of a towel? I was stupid and used proactiv and wiped it off with a bath towel and the benzoyl peroxide ruined it. I washed the towel but it's not coming out? Please help, how can I clean it?
Answer: sorry but you cant. its bleeched it so the colour that the towel was is no longer there. i do that all the time now we have spotty towels. lol
Question: How does benzoyl peroxide really not fade a tan? If you have a tan and you apply benzoyl peroxide AFTER at nighttime lets say, it is said that it will not fade your tan.
I haven't done much research, but I'm just surprised how this is true. It can lighten facial hair, bleach fabric etc, yet it does not lighten the skin? Especially if you have a tan and your skin is unnaturally darker.
Is it true? Any thoughts on this?
Answer: This is true, it will not fade your tan. Facial hair is more delicate hence it will react almost instantly to any dies and in this case, benzoyl peroxide. In order to get a tan you need days or weeks to see a nice color. Unless you use benzoyl 3 times a day everyday, it will not fade away your tan.
Question: Can using benzoyl peroxide on your pimples cause more acne? I just have a few pimples around my chin area. I'm trying to get rid of them. Should I use a little benzoyl peroxide to dry them up or will that make it worse.
Answer: I've used Benzoyl Peroxide for years now. It depends on how much you use. There are two kinds available, Oxy 5 and Oxy 10. Obviously Oxy 10 is maximum strength. Using too much will dry out the skin. You should try a little to check for skin reaction to the medication. It wont give you more pimples but excessive use will make your skin peel. It works, though. I haven't had any breakouts in a long long time.
Question: How long does it take benzoyl peroxide to work? I started using benzoyl peroxide about 4 days ago. So far it hasn't worked, how long does it usually take before it becomes effective?
Answer: There is this new popular cream that people have been talking about.
It was even televised on TV.
It prevents future and existing acne, diminishes scars, and lightens skin and blemishes. Fast results too! (It's been claimed that major results can be seen within a week and no later than two weeks)
Before and After photos are available at the given ebay site.
This person is providing 1-3 week trial samples (Only for ONE DOLLAR.. definitely a deal) on ebay at:
Search up "Cee En's Acne Solution" or "best acne solution ever" on ebay.
First 100 customers can get the item for $1 for one week trial and up to 3 weeks. Or you can purchase 1 month supply for $40 or 6 month supply for $160
It's expensive, but the product DOES work.
My sister and cousin who both have major acne have tried the product and they both give it thumbs up. I have also heard many great feedbacks about this cream.
I don't have a problem with acne, but it seems to have great results on my sister who has moderate to severe acne. Her acne swelling went away overnight.
check the seller's feedbacks on the cream
I hope this helps. =)
Question: How do you relieve the pain associated with benzoyl peroxide on acne? I didn't read the directions and put benzoyl peroxide all over my face. now my face is swollen and red and burning. Is their anything i can put on it or do to reduce the swelling and reduce damage; any advice about benzoyl peroxide is needed. Like what not to put on it and what I can do to reduce the redness and burning. Also if i could suffer permanent damage because of this.
Answer: You will not suffer permanent damage because of this. Benzoyl peroxide is strong and has a tendency to cause irritation. Are you using 10%? That may be too much for you. But first, don't slather it on your face. One nice normal coating will do or at least cover the spots. If you go down a dosage and that doesn't help, then go to a derm and get Benzaclin because it is part benzoyl peroxide and part antibiotic. If that's too strong, there is a milder dose called Acanya. For now, just use less and only once a day or at night. What you also need to know is that benzoyl peroxide stains clothing, so be careful of it rubbing against your good clothes. For now and even maybe later, when you wash your face, use a mild cleanser like Dove or Aveeno. The redness will go down. Avoid direct sunlight for now and temperatures that are too hot or too cold. Don't freak out and maybe put some moisturizer on. Again, Aveeno is a great brand because they have a moisturizer called "Ultra Calming" and that is what you want now. But really, it should be just fine after some sleep. It may be dry the next day and you may have to skip using it that day. I hope you get the help you need and don't worry...we've all done something like this. Skin is always a dang problem.
Question: What kind of benzoyl peroxide product / moisturizer should I buy? I have a good deal of acne and blackheads, and would like to buy some benzoyl peroxide and a moisturizer to go along with it (I heard it dries out your skin).
What products do you suggest I purchase that work well? I would prefer it to come from a pretty common store.
Thanks!
Answer: I always use the Clean and Clear one it works pretty well for me,but it might vary in skin.
I would recommend it tough.
