Answer: You made fun of my Pigeon... NOT NICE!!!
Question: What is the difference between a Colorectal Surgeon and a Bariatrics Surgeon?
Answer: KEVIN,
THE FIRST ANSWER IS PARTIALLY RIGHT , BUT NOT FULLY. A COLO-RECTAL SURGEON IS A SURGEON WHO SPECIALIZES IN SURGERY WHERE THE COLON AND OR RECTUM NEEDS TO BE OPERATED. THE MOST COMMON REASON IS COLO-RECTAL CANCER.
A BARIATRIC SURGEON DEALS WITH SURGERY USING SURGICAL ENDOSCOPES TO MAKE THE STOMACH SMALLER AND AID IN WEIGHT LOSS.
BOTH ARE HIGHLY SPECIAL SURGERIES AND REQUIRE HIGH TRAINING.

Question: I am 28 year old female weighing 250 pounds. Is bariatrics safe? I have a peculiar condition where in I am allergic to raw vegetables (salads) and most of the fruits. I gained weight after a treatment during childhood. I dont have any medical problems that could lead to obesity. I am not a big eating fan either. I am getting married this year and I really wish to start this chapter of my life with a healthy perspective and also enjoy without fear of all the dreaded diseases I am prone to because of my weight. Is there any way I could lose weight quickly? Your answers are highly appreciated. Thank you.
Answer: I'm not a doctor, but I'd say your level of obesity may not qualify you for the more extreme bariatric procedures. Doctors tend to shy away from anything under morbidly obese, which is at least 100 pounds over the high end of your ideal weight. They can still perform the procedure as an elective surgery, but you may be putting yourself through a difficult process for little long-term benefit.
I know of people who have gained weight as a result of food allergies, not lack of exercise or high caloric intake. You may have a trigger food or two that prevents meaningful weight loss. Only an allergist could tell you for sure.
There could also be glandular conditions which result in weight gain, so you may want to consult a physician for a complete physical with blood work. A low functioning thyroid is one reason some people lack a normal metabolism, for instance. Diabetics or pre-diabetics can also lose weight once they start on blood sugar medications.
Bariatric surgery will definitely take the raw weight off your body, but you have to drink substantial amounts of water
and maintain a very strict diet. There is a significant risk of post-operative complications, even death. The lap band procedure is considered safer than the gastric by-pass, and it is reversible.
Question: How long does it take to acquire a surgical specialty? I'd like to know what kind of surgical specialty require the most education & training, some examples are: bariatrics, ophthalmology, general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics, surgical oncology, cardiothoracics, trauma, micro, vascular, etc.
Besides, this is assuming your fresh out of med school and u already did an internship and social service.
P.S. If someone could rank the specialties I put according to most time to least time that would be incredible, thanks!
Answer: use perhaps the Riemann's dzeta function
Question: Bariatrics. Stomach stapling. Effecive? I would like to talk to people that have had this surgery done. One question: would you do it again if you had a chance to go back?
Answer: I have never had it done but if you can get Discovery Health it seems that a lot of people are getting it done but these are people that are severely over weight like 200 - 400 pounds and this is their last resort. It is interesting to watch how and why it is done. These are actual cases that are taped and the procedure is real, none of this Hollywood stuff..
Question: difference between traditional roux-en-y done for cancer and the new bariatrics procedure for weight loss.?
Answer: i'm not a medical doctor, sorry
Question: i'm getting the bariatrics surgery done and I need to find a tredmill that olds 300plus lbs. and cheep please i'm on a fixed income
Answer: your best bet is in the paper in the classified ads. There are always treadmills there.
Question: Which insurance plans & companies will help pay for lap-band surgery? I currently have United Health Care Choice Plus, but they do not cover any sort of bariatrics surgery. I am trying to find out which insurance would cover the surgery because I am changing insurance companies in a few months and I have a few different options (I don't know what they are yet). This was on the lap-band site but it's pretty vague:
Below is a partial list of insurance companies that are known to either partially or completely cover LAP-BAND® System surgery. Please note that this list should not be construed as a guarantee that you will be covered - it is provided for informational purposes only:
Aetna
American Family Insurance
Blue Cross (in many states)
Cigna First Health
Health Net
Humana
One Health
United Healthcare
Any advice is appreciated!
Answer: Be aware that, depending upon your state, the companies you listed only cover bariatric surgery on their group policies, not on their individual policies. Each company has a height and weight chart for individual policies and most candidates for bariatric surgery do not fall within the guidelines of the chart and so will be declined.
You'll want to visit a local independent agent to see what companies your BMI will allow you to qualify for, then the agent can search those companies to see if any cover the surgery. There may be a waiting period before they'll cover. Do not give up your current coverage before getting a policy in place.
Question: Is this person a desparate liar? Are these medical achievements real? I feel sorry for him if he is lying? This random guy tries to add me on Facebook and says this on his profile:
"Medical Scientist. PhD in Genetics and Pharmacology. Discoverer of phytoandrogens and suprahormonal augmenters. Inventor of Nutrafem, P2Beta, Xndo Cola. Pioneer of TLR Bariatrics (Diet-Behavioriet-Energy Shifts: how to eat more, exercise less?)
Answer: I would bet my last dollar he is full of Beano's! Sounds more like he should be trying to get nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize of some sort.
Question: the science of ____ is the study of food & its effects on the body? a] dietology
b] bariatrics
c] nutrition
d] diabetes
Answer: C. Nutritional science investigates the metabolic and physiological responses of the body to diet.
Question: Leptoprin? Has anyone had any good results using Leptoprin or Leptoprill? I want to try it after I have my baby because I am planning on starting at Curves but want alittle extra help becuase being bigger is in my family and it is not easy to lose. I have called a Bariatrics center and they suggested it before I decide on a surgery, but I am looking for any advice before I buy it. So anyone who has or knows someone who has tried it please let me know. Thank You.
Answer: I've found better results with Phentermine than Leptoprin. Lepto are huge like horse pills and you have to take two of them a million times a day. Diet pills in general are bad for you so I would talk to the women at Curves (I'm a member myself) and ask them about dieting. A lady I know went on the Curves diet and she lost a ton of weight...ok, not literally a ton, but I think you get the idea.
Question: bariatric Surgery costs? As many of you know most insurances will no longer cover the cost of the bariatrics surgery. For me I have tried everything to take weight off nothing has worked I just gain back eveything I lost and then some. I am at a point now its the surgery or suffer some very bad physical problems I have been turned down for a loan for the surgery. Does anyone know of any Gov. grants or organizations that help in this area... im finding the Lapband runs about $7-8 thousand and the bariatric about $23,000 ....Thanks bgaroo
Answer: Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling / lap band (all types of bariatric surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for American and Canadian patients, as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her surgery for gastric bypass in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company. Hope this helps.

Question: Anyone Have The Lap-Band done? anyone here have the lap band done at your local bariatrics center? I am considering this but my area hasn't came into their own with it yet. Claim it's coming to our area late fall.
Thus gives me time to do my research. I went on the site and read about it but raised more questions than answered.
The long term effects was my biggest concern. out of 1700 poeple tested Some they claimed caused hypertension (35.6%), osteoarthritis (57.8%), diabetes (22%), dislipidemia (27.1%), sleep apnea (31.4%), depression (21.2%), hyperuricemia (27.1%), gallstones (8.7%) irregular menstrual cycle (4.9%), heart failure (1.4%), sweet eating (22.5%) and binge eating (18.5%).
If this is just a band around the stomach bag, why are these other conditions rising as well from the proceedure?
Answer: check out www.obesityresolved.com many people told me the main discomfort was learning the mental concepts of overcoming food addiction, trying to not over eat which will cause vomiting, everyone i interviewed said they would do it again their ages were 24-50 and lost 60-140 lbs in 10-12 months, 4 were married couples, good luck i hope you give it a try
Question: Surgical Specialties? I know I want to become a surgeon, but I don't know what kind. So, if anyone answers, please do so because you actually know a real answer and you're not just guessing off the top of your head. I know surgeons may not be so common in Yahoo Answers, but if anyone would happen to stumble across this I'd be very appreciative of it. Thanks!
1. How steady do your hands have to be for that particular specialty?
2. How long does it take to become one?
3. How much "you" time do you have a week (and vacations if any)?
4. What is the average salary for that specialty?
5. How much regarding research and innovation are related to that specialty (ergo, does it get boring)?
6. Is it hard to get a job with that specialty?
7. How stressful is it in comparison to other specialties?
I'd like to hear back from any specialty, so bariatrics, ophthalmology, general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics, surgical oncology, cardiothoracics, trauma, micro, vascular, etc. are all welcome to answer.
BTW, if anyone answers this who knows other people of a different specialty, could u please ask them as well...? Thanks
Answer: You're asking too much here. First of all, unless you have a parent that is a doctor or dentist, you are very unlikely to be accepted into medical school. We're talking about a political thing here. Your grades mean nothings here, nor your intelligence. Your parents and associations mean everything.
Question: How steady do your hands have to be for a surgical specialty? I'd like to know what kind of surgical specialty requires the steadiest hands, some examples are: bariatrics, ophthalmology, general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics, surgical oncology, cardiothoracics, trauma, micro, vascular, etc.
Also another little thing, does cracking ur fingers make ur hands shake more?
And one last thing, if you have kinda shaky hands when u try to make them be still, can u train urself to keep them steady in med school?
P.S. If someone could rank the specialties I put according to most hand control to least hand control (less shaky to more shaky) that would be incredible, thanks!
Answer: Cracking your knuckles does no damage, it is, however, irritating to those around you.
If you don't really have a neurologic problem like essential tremor, you are probably thinking about the shaking from being nervous, which you will overcome with time.
Question: Weight loss pills that ACTUALLY WORK??? I probably eat better than 90% of the US - tons of vegetables, very little fat, no cholesterol, and I exercise several times a week, but for some reason I cannot shake off the lbs! I do not have a thyroid problem and I am not diabetic. I would like to lose 30-40 lbs.
Is there a pill out there that actually works?
If it must be prescription, is there a type of doctor who can prescribe me a medicine that can help with weight loss? (I tried bariatrics, but turns out those doctors only work with really obese people who need gastric bypasses)
Or if you know of something else that doesn't really deal with the typical 'diet and exercise' because I'm already doing a lot of it..
Thanks
Answer: try taking 1 bronkaid (asthma medicine w/ 25mg ephedrine), 1 200mg caffeine pill and 81 or 325mg aspirin together 2-3 times a day. it's called an eca stack (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin). i got all 3 at cvs. it works really well when you cycle them 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off (taking benadryl on the off weeks can "reset" the receptors more quickly). and i also cycle clenbuterol. diet pills in stores are useless.

Question: How can I get rid of anxiety? I have anxiety it started in the later part of 2007. At first I could eat certain foods, drink alcohol, and take certain meds and I would have a anxiety attack. It would feel like I was about to die or something. Well I have gotten way better however I still can not take certain meds or I will have an anxiety attack. I really need to start taking a diet pill because Im going to go to the Bariatrics center and that is part of the plan. I was prescribed Hydroxyz Pam 25mg to take for anxiety. I was wondering if I could take one of these and then take one of my diet pills so that I will not have a anxiety attack. I really need help with this.
