Dental Implant
An artificial permanent device placed in the jaw bone to anchor a tooth, crown, or bridge
Question: Dental implant? I just had a dental implant done last week and once it is healed I will be having the crown placed. Two questions...does dental insurance typically cover the crown placement? and how soon after the implant will I know if my body rejects it?
And before you say it i have reviewed my plan benefits and know that crowns are covered at 50%...just want to know if anyone had issues getting an implant crown approved?
Answer: Unfortunately I know no insurance companies that cover implants. If they cover the crowns they didn't mine.
First off did you know your body won't reject the implant but the implant can possibly not "take" and have to be removed to be replaced after the area heals. It isn't often that an implant has problems anymore.
You might feel an odd sensation though which if you do don't panic it is good news. You might feel a ping of pain in the implant area that goes quickly away. Think of snapping your leg with a rubber band, hurts but the pain leaves quickly. (yet a rubber band hurts worse than what I am trying to describe) This is the process of the bond bonding to the titanium. It isn't extreme pain either just so that you notice. I have a mouth full of implants and you can write to me if you want an implant buddy who has been there.
Question: dental implant? I am wearing braces and i will be done with wearing them in couple of months. My orthodontist is not clear on how much my dental implant is going to cost. It is gonna be one of my front teeth because there is a gap there. Does anyone know what the average cost of dental implant is? Do they look like the rest of the teeth? thanks
Answer: Dental implants are a great (often the best) way to go. Average, total cost between both my office and the oral surgeon is $2850 per tooth. They do look very much like the other teeth (though do note, that a single, anterior tooth is a very difficult shade match -- it will likely be such the most people would not notice it in normal conversation/interaction.).
Question: Dental Implant? hi, i had a dental implant fitted on my front tooth in december and had my crown put on the other day.
i also damaged my other front tooth so had a veener put on that.
question though, my veener is pefect (i recommend them to anyone) but my implant at the moment seems a little smaller than my other front tooth.
my gum is swelled though and my dentist says it usually takes a few months for the swelling to go down and for people to see the full benefits of an implant, but i can't see if my crown on the implant goes up into my gum and i can't see if it will appear normal once the swelling goes down.
i can't imgen they would give me 1 front tooth bigger than the other would they? :/
would love to hear from people whos had implants or people who as expertise in this area, thanks.
Answer: Hi, i am in the process if getting 2 implants, one either side of my front teath. I havnt had the procedure finsihed yet, atm have 2 metal pegs sticking out my gum (attractive!!) but in next couple of weeks they are going to be taken out and replaced my the tooth. My gum was swollen alot more than i realized wheni had the pegs put in, it hought they were hardly noticable but a month later, they looked as if they were MASSIVE altho obv they wernt lol! nounce your gum has de-swelled your teath will look more even sized dont worry! They def wouldnt have made your teath diffferent lenght, so try not to worry and remember, once everything in your mouth has settled down you will have a stunning smile :) x
Question: what dental implant center in Kansas City is recommended? We need help in finding a good dental implant provider in Kansas City. Please let us know from your experience what dental implant center in Kansas city provides good service and quality? and How do we know where to go to have a dental implant? Any bad dental implant center that we need to avoid? Thanks.
Answer: Look if you are looking for a quality dental implants center then you should not look the distances. When I suffered from dental problem then I went to Houston after getting advised from one of my friend. I went to Dr. Brueggen Dental Implant Center and it simply paid off. I went covering a long distance and what I got was simply amazing. Extraordinary check up and the implantation was superb. Now after nearly 8 month I face no problem at all regarding my dental implantation. Initially I went through their site http://www.nodentures.com and then I visited his center. Though it is in Houston but I must refer you this service because of their quality.
Question: How much does it cost a dental implant at a dental school? I know a regular dental implant costs about 3200$ (total cost with crown) but I heard dental schools have cheaper prices.Anyone knows how much is it and are the students reliable?Do they perform under the supervision of an experienced dentist? Is there a dental school in Tampa?
Answer: You can generally assume when going to a dental school that the price will be about half of a normal dentist. We have two schools in our area, Detroit, at U of Michigan you have to see a student if you want the cheap price but they dont stick you with the rookie students, and they have actual dentists who come and check what they are doing step by step to make sure everything looks good. At the other school over here, U of Detroit Mercy you can see a student or an instructor as you wish both at half price so it depends on where you go.
I went to U of M for a root canal and though the appointment takes longer, since they have to have the teacher check it out every so often, but it was worth it to save 300 bucks.
I found this on a search...
There are 2 dental schools in the state of Florida - Nova Southeastern is in Ft Lauderdale and University of Florida at Gainesville is in Gainesville. Both should be accepting patients for their clinics.
Question: Why does the dental implant process take so long? What does one do during the interval? Dental implants,bone/gum implants etc. seem to be good alternatives to dentures. However, if the process takes 18 months from start to finish, isn't that process a bit long?Teeth have to be removed for the implant. What happens to the appearance while one is waiting for a new smile?Wouldn't it be expensive too? What is the axerage price range/cost?
Nobody has really answered the question about appearance. Why should someone assume that because I ask the question I am interested in a dental implant? People like to weigh options; and sometimes an answer to another question stimulates a burning question.I am ever learning. If I were getting dental work done it would be outside the USA so that the price would not compound the pain!
Answer: a dental implant total costs about 3000/tooth.
you have the tooth pulled, a titanium screw is placed, you are allowed to heal for 6-8wks. after that you will go in to your normal dentist or a prostodontist to have the implant area fitted with an implant supported crown. this involves impressions and then going back two- three weeks later to have the crown cemented on. it shouldn't take 18 months unless you are needing to have a couple bone grafts.
in the mean time, you can have a flipper made to replace the missing teeth (like if it's a front tooth) or just go w/out a tooth in the back.
and by the way, an implant is WAY more predictable than a bridge. if the bridge fails you have to have 2 more teeth pulled or totally lose the bridge. implants never get decay around the edges like a bridge could. implants are forever, bridges are made to last like 15 yrs or a little more, only if you take care of it.
Question: What are the symptoms in a dental implant failure? Hello
i just had a dental implant and it has been 1 and a half months.Plus i smoke.i recently quit because of the dental implant and i started again a week before. While i was brushing there was little bleeding near the implant does this indicate a failure? The second stage of the implant is in February should i quit ? and start again in February? Please help me i am worried.
Answer: Bleeding is not an indication your implant is failing. Signs to look for include pus coming from area around the implant, pain can be an indication there is a problem(implant failure can be painless), but the sign that I would be concerned about is mobility or movement of the implant. A simple xray can confirm the implant is in good shape. You should return to the surgeon who placed the implant if you still have concerns. I'm sure you know that implants have better success rate in non smokers. If there is a time that it is important to avoid smoking it is immediately after it is placed. If the implant is failing quitting smoking for 6 weeks is not going to save it now.
Question: How do you know if your dental implant is messed up or failing? I got a dental implant a year or so ago and I just wonder how I'll know if it's okay, since there's no nerve in the fake tooth (obviously). How can I make sure the infection doesn't come back?
I've had an earache and headache for a few days now and I just get scared that it has to do with the implant.
Answer: your dental implant is doing excellently well...
headache and earache might be due to something else...
Question: Is bone augmentation for dental implant a major procedure and how safe is it-can i just be on local anaesthesi? My dental surgeon will be doing a bone augmentation before by dental implant.Just want to know how safe is it and what are the risk involved?
Is having the implant at the same time advisable? Also is this a day procedure and what type of anaeshesia is recommended. I have read in some thread that there could be complications with general. How long does this take? I will also have four teeth extracted. Is this commonly done - extraction; augmentation and dental implant in one go? Thank you.
Answer: It's routine.
They take a chip of bone and graft it to your jaw bone. You can't have the implant at the same time, as there is not enough bone there to support the implant. You have to wait a few months for the bone to fuse, then get the implant done.Your periodontist will talk you through (or should have). If in doubt, ask.
Question: How does a dental implant work with braces? I had a tooth removed about 7 months ago and I need a dental implant as well as braces. How long will I have to wait to get the braces put on after I get the implant?
Answer: I actually would get the braces finished before doing an implant. If it is a front tooth, the orthodontist can bond a fake tooth onto your wires for you for esthetic purposes. Once the implant is in, you can't move it. If there are significant changes in your teeth from ortho, it might compromise the case to place it early. Once you have the braces finished or even almost finished, a surgeon can sink the implant in the space. Just a suggestion.
Question: How much should a single dental implant replacing a molar cost? I have been advised to have a dental implant in the last molar in the left side of my lower jaw. The price quoted seemed very high. What is considered a fair price for this procedure?
Answer: An implant can cost around $2000. Then you need the crown on the implant which is about 1800
Question: What is a good popcorn substitute for dental implant patients? My friend is banned from eating her favorite popcorn now after dental implant surgery. Is there a good alternative(s) that is safe and crunchy? Snack brands only, nothing cooked/fried!
Thanks--
Answer: Puffed rice can be a good option.
Question: How long after a dental implant should i wait before snowboarding? I had received a dental implant a week ago and wanna go snowboarding this week, is it too early?
Answer: You may want to contact the person that did the implant and ask them. They may suggest you wear a mouth guard. Would suck to have to go through all that work again!
Question: How painful is the dental implant procedure? My teeth are moving into the gap. I have the choice of having a dental implant, or drilling two perfectly healthy teeth to make a bridge. I am slightly dental phobic and would not cope well with lots of pain during either procedure.
Which one should I choose?
Thanks all. Costs are unimportant. I would rather have a healthy mouth long term. Just concerned at the pain during insertion..I don't numb up well on the lower jaw (maybe should have mentioned that!)
Answer: There is less pain from a dental implant than pulling a tooth. If you were able to tolerate that, then the implant will be a breeze.
I would certainly not sacrifice the other two teeth to do a bridge. On average, a bridge lasts between 10-20 years, where the implant would last over 30. In my office a complete implant procedure would actually only run a few hundred dollars more than a 3 unit bridge, so the cost isn't really a factor in the choice for most patients.
Question: How long it will take to complete the dental implant treatment? Hi, I am going for implant dentistry.. can any one tell me how long it will take to complete the dental implant treatment???
and how pain full it is?
Answer: Hi, goodluck with the treatment first of all.
Your question is subjective as it depends on many factors.
There are many different implant systems available (different makes etc), and all of them differ.
Some, the dentist will install the implant and then seal your gum back over and wait for up to 6 months, others may but the implant in, screw a healing abutment on top and then wait a few weeks to months. Other have a temporary crown made up and attach that when you have the implant fitted, and you then go back and have a permanent one put on after a suitable amount of time.
You will have an anaesthetic so the pain should not be too bad. You may experience some discomfort for a while afterwards, however with some pain killers this should pass.
Make sure your dentist tells you everything you need to know before beginning your treatment so that there are no surprises along the way.
After the treatment make sure you keep your mouth impeccably clean and then there should be no complications.
Goodluck and if you need anymore advice email me.
Thanks x
Question: How long will my mouth take to heal after getting a dental implant? I'm going to be getting a dental implant and 2 wisdom teeth removed soon and I want to know how long the healing process will take. Specifically, I mean the healing process for when they put the screw in the bone.
My main concern is that I play lots of sports and want to know how long it will be before I'll be allowed to play again after my implant. (I do volleyball, wrestling, rugby and judo)
Answer: Your area where the implant is placed and the wisdom extraction site should heal within a few days. The majority of the discomfort will occur in the first 24-72h. After that things will get better as long as there is no ongoing infection or other complication. The gum tissue should close over the area were the teeth were extracted within about a week.
Because you are getting a lot done I would recommend resting for at least two days post surgery to let your body fully recover.
Question: How long must I wait before working out again after dental implant surgery? I had the screw from the dental implant placed into my jaw on Monday. It hasn't been bleeding except from the first day, but Im a very active person. I feel perfectly fine and have the urge to exercise. When is it safe to start again? What kind of exercising is not strenuous? Thanks
Answer: You can start getting back into the exercise routine at any time. Start doing you normal work out but don't go 100% right away. Good luck.
Question: What are the Pros and Cons of having a fixed bridge and dental implant? I just know that dental implant costs way much than fixed bridge. But is it worth the cost? Or a fixed bridge may also be considerable?
Answer: hi
When considering a dental implant vs bridges we must take the following considerations into account:
• Jaw bone resorbtion - Treatment with a dental implant involves placing implants in areas where there are no teethand by so doing, the bone area is stimulated again and this prevents long term bone loss in that area.
If a bridge that connects 2 teeth is used instead of a dental implant, pressure is not applied on the jaw bone! Therefore the bone is not stimulated and begins to shrink away. Conclusion – dental implants preserve the underlying jawbone.
More considerations:
•Oral health
• Durability
Oral hygiene
Esthetics
• Treatment plan flexibility
• Price

Question: How long does the soreness and pain last when someone gets a Dental Implant? I just got an extraction and a Dental Implant put in on friday, a few days ago. How long does it take for the soreness go away. And how long does it take the brusing on the gum to go away. I hate this pain feeling. And hopefully when I get my temporary crown it will look real and stay in, cause now my fake tooth looks ugly and I can't eat on it at all. Any experts here? I hope so..
Answer: The soreness should go away honestly, in about a week. The bruising also. You might have a little soreness after that but it is a surgery, so expect a little longer healing time. Every mouth is different but from what I've seen, 1-2 weeks for soreness. Just take what pain meds the DDS prescribes and try to get rest. Implants usually look awesome after the final crown is put in so good luck!
Question: what is the rate and risk of rejection of a dental implant ? Hi, Can some one tell me how often does it happen that a dental implant gets rejected and has to be re-done?
Answer: The dentists say not very often and they're probably right.
I had one reject after 6 months.
Some of the things to ensure success - don't smoke during the first couple months when the implant is fusing with the bone. Don't try to rush the implant, let it stay in the bone longer then recommended before loading it.
Mine was replaced and it's been fine for three years.
Dentist had no explanation, just says sometimes it happens. Usually if something happens within a year its covered and dentist replaces for free (including crown).
