Question: What types of intestinal diseases are associated with nodular mucosa in the ileum? I just got my results back from a colonoscopy and that is what the gastroenterologist found. I've been suffering from unexplained chronic diarrhea (sorry if it's too much info) and edema for 4 years. Advice from anybody from the medical profession would be much appreciated.
Answer: Nodular mucosa of the ileum could indicate Crohn's disease. Classically this disease presents with a 'cobblestone' appearance of the mucosa, especially in the ileum. Do a quick search on Wiki and it will tell you all you may ever want to know about Crohn's disease. Good luck!
Question: What cell type is found in the inner lining of the mucosa ( near the lumen) of the small intestine? Need help can;t find the answer in my lab book. This topic is on Anatomy of the digestive system.
Answer: The small intestine is divided into three parts, the duodenum (25 cm), the jejunum (2.5 m) and the ileum (3.5 m). The mucosa of the small intestine is highly modified. The luminal surface is completely covered by a number of finger- or leaf-like projections called villi, 0.5-1.5 mm in length. The core of a villus is an extension of the lamina propria, and its surface is covered by a simple columnar epithelium cells. Opening onto the luminal surface at the bases of the villi are simple tubular structures called intestinal glands or crypts of Lieberkuhn. The crypts extend downward toward the muscularis mucosae. The simple columnar epithelium lining them is continuous with that covering the villi.
i hope this helps u.
Question: What's the difference between villi and microvilli in the folds of the mucosa layer?
Answer: Villi are the foldings of mucosa layer whereas microvilli are tiny finger like projections present on a cells in mucosa layer. Each villi consists of a lacteal vessel and a blood vessel to absorb the digested food. Both of them increase the area of absorption.

Question: What does erythematous mucosa in the stomach, after an endoscopy? What could this mean?
Sorry, meant "What does erythematous mucosa mean :p
Answer: The word erythematous means red. The lining of your stomach is red which often indicates gastritis. You can go to WebMd and type in gastritis and read up on this condition.
Question: what does it mean when they said i had moderately diffuse erythematous mucosa in my entire stomach? I have h pylrori for about 6 months now on second treatment so they went in and did a scope down my throat and took numerous biopcies
Answer: It means the mucosal lining of the stomach was red (erythematous) in lots of areas (moderately diffuse.)
It's an observation, not a diagnosis. And it mostly means that there's likely irritation and/or inflammation of the mucosal lining... could be related to the H. pylori, could be related to the treatment, could be related to NSAID use (Aspirin, Advil, etc.) or could be something else entirely.
The biopsies results will nail down the source of the redness (inflammatory in nature, etc.)
Question: What type of cells form the epithelium of the vaginal mucosa?
Answer: squamous epithelium. There are stratified squamous epithelial cells lining the vaginal mucosa.
Question: I Just had a colonoscopy and they found multiple mucosa targt lesions...what could cause this? I have been struggling with abdominal pain, constipation, bood in stool and diharrea. I had a colonoscopy done which found multiple target lesions in the colon. What disease can cause this?
Answer: The primary target lesion for colorectal screening is the mucosal polyp.
The cause of colon polyps is not known.
They are extremely common, and their incidence increases as individuals get older. It is estimated that 50% of the people over the age of 60 will harbor at least one polyp.
There are different types of polyps and until a pathologist has examined any that were removed even your doctor won't know what sort uou have.
Their presence can cause bleeding and discomfort.
Sometimes multiple discrete venous lesions manifest in the gastrointestinal tract, with the small bowel more commonly affected than the large bowel. They, too, can cause bleeding.

Question: Why am i having white almost clear discharge like mucosa in my vag? what does that mean???
i am supposed to have my period today ..
or what is it??
i am supposed to have my period today .....and nothing has happended yet
Answer: Once you start puberty a white and/or clear discharge is normal. The vagina is self-cleaning. This same discharge increases the closer you get to ovulation and when you are sexually aroused. Trust me, you don't ever want it to go away. You will also have your own scent - musk like - and smell stronger to you than to others.
Maybe your period is just delayed a day or so.
Different Types of Discharge:
White: Thick, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.
Clear and stretchy: This is "fertile" mucous and means you are ovulating.
Clear and watery: This occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.
Yellow or Green: May indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.
Spotting Blood/Brown Discharge: May happen right after periods, and is just "cleaning out" your vagina. Old blood looks brown. This may occur when you are ovulating/mid-cycle.
Different types of infections:
Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching
Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap
Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva
Signs of trichomoniasis
A watery, yellowish or greenish bubbly discharge
An unpleasant odor
Pain and itching when urinating
Most apparent after your period
Question: What are the effects smoking has on the body's ability to remove trapped materials in the respiratory mucosa?
Answer: Smoking stops the cillia from working. Cillia are cells that beat mucus back toward the mouth.
Question: What are the effects smoking has on the body's ability to remove trapped materials in the respritory mucosa?
Answer: The body attempts to remove foreign objects and debris by pulling it up, trapped in mucus, using cilia. Cilia are little hair like projections that grab the mucus and foreign objects and move it up the trachea. When it gets to the bifurcation or Carina it will cause a cough reflex. This will use air in the lungs to "blow" the debris out of the airway.
Now, if you smoke, the chemicals in the cigarette will numb the cilia preventing them from doing their job. Plus the smoke and chemicals in the cigarette will cause inflammation in the airway. Inflammation in the airway will produce mucus. So not only will the cilia tract be inoperative but you will have excess chemicals, smoke and mucus in the lungs.
I hope this answered your question.
Question: Does the brain have a mucosa lining? My friend said a friend of his found out he had a brain ulcer. Is that even possible?
Don't ulcers only occur when there is an open wound inside of your body, or on the lining of your mucosa?
Sorry i'm no medic or doctor so i'm a little confused, lol.
Can someone please break down what an ulcer is, where do you get them, and what causes them?
& well does the brain have a mucosa lining? and if so...could it then in fact be true that his friend has a brain ulcer?
Answer: Maybe he meant brain abscess. An ulcer occurs when the skin surface erodes. The brain has three coverings, the pia which is a thin layer directly covering the brain, the arachnoid and the dura (thick layer).
He probably misunderstood. I never heard of a brain ulcer.
Question: Most nutrients are absorbed through the mucosa of the intestinal villi by active transport.? True or False?
Answer: Not strictly true nor false. The mechanisms by which the cells lining the intestine absorb nutrient molecules & inorganic ions are not completely understood. Many inorganic ions are actively transported eg. sodium, calcium & iron.Transporters also exist for certain classes of amino acids, glucose & galactose, but curiosly their activity is much reduced if active sodium transport is blocked.
Question: What is found in mucosa of small intestine; produce intestinal juice?
