EMLA Cream
A type of topical anesthetic containing Lidocaine
Question: Is the EMLA cream still supposed to be on the patch after two hours? I bought a EMLA numbing patch in order to numb the skin that would be in contact with a needle. After two hours, I removed the patch and felt the skin. I pinched the skin and found the EMLA patch had no effect, and the cream was still on the patch. I followed all the instructions in the instruction manual on the EMLA numbing patch, but the patch did not seem to work. I'm just wondering, is the EMLA cream still supposed to be on the patch after two hours?
Answer: USUALLY LOCAL ANESTHETICS LAST FOR ABOUT 15 MIN MAX
Question: what is the generic over the counter EMLA cream called? i need to get EMLA cream by Saturday and i dont have insurance to get it at the doctors, my cousin said she got a generic kind at CVS pharmacy for around 45.. do you know that it is called?
Answer: According to http://www.drugs.com/emla.html it's a combination of Lidocaine and Prilocaine. There are many possible name brands it could be listed under, but by asking for that, you'll get the right stuff. Good luck and I hope I helped!
Question: would EMLA cream make getting my belly button pierced painless? It looks painful! I have EMLA cream, do you think it would take away most of the pain, or is the skin too thick to use freeze cream on my belly button?
Answer: To be honest it really doesn't hurt that much anyway, only stings for about 30 seconds whilst they actually pierce it and put the jewellery in and then it's fine... I wouldn't worry about using cream or anything.
Question: Emla cream????????????? Thinking of using it for my 6 month old. Need to get a blood sample from her arm.
Have you used it with your kids? Is it effective? Are there any side effects or allergic reactions you noticed or heard? Any tips guys.??
Thanks heaps.
Also how much does it cost in australia??
Answer: EMLA, or "eutectic mixture of local anesthetic" is most useful for patients, children and adults, who need frequent blood draws or injections.
It is good for children who are overtly fearful of injections, however it is not advisable for routine, one time draws. There are risks with the use of EMLA, the most concerning are cardiac related. This can be significant in a 6 month old. Lidocaine has been known to cause allergic reactions, but this is not common.
It is certainly effective, though it must be placed about an hour in advance of the needle stick.
The best idea would be to talk with your pediatrician and allow the medical staff to place the EMLA and monitor your baby during and after the use of the medication.
Cheers!

Question: can i use EMLA cream to numb parts of skin with hair on it so i can wax it ? i have sensitive areas on my body (near bikini line ... ) and i was wondering if i can use EMLA cream or some kind of skin anesthesia to numb that area with the hair and then wax it ?
Answer: Possibly.
I have never used emla cream, and i have waxed many places on my body.
Its honestly, in my opinion, easier to just get up the guts to wax, and the pain is gone in 5 seconds.
And alot of time, if you numb something, and then you do something to it to cause it pain, Youre gonna feel the pain when the anesthetic wears off, and itll hurt ten times worse then it woul dhave just guttin up and going through with it.
Question: shall i use emla cream for my first tattoo? i have a very big fear of needles but really want a tattoo, im having my first one in 3 week on the side of my wrist. ive heard emla cream is very good and you dont feel a thing. So i would like to use it but some reviews say the tattooist will not do the tattoo if you use it? so i dont know whether to use it or not.
Answer: I use Rocco's Old School Tattoo Balm on all of my old and new tattoo's.
It works great. Heals my new tattoo's nicely, keeps them moisturized and protect.
And still lets air pass through unlike Vaseline. Also makes my old tattoo's look new
Here's their website - http://www.roccosoldschool.com
Question: Have you used EMLA cream that numbs your skin and stops injections hurting? Have you used Emla Cream which numbs your skin and stops injections hurting? If so, what was it like? Was it effective and easy to use?
I've got my HPV Cancer Jab soon and I was wondering if Emla Cream does actually work and if it would help?
Please help! Thanks.
Answer: hey, i can assure you that injection doesnt hurt, ive had two so far andalso have the third coming up. the pain caused by injections isnt the surface of the needle going in its the liquid they pump in!! i had an antibiotic injection which involved putting a lot of liquid in and it was agony but the sticking it in part didnt hurt at all. I dont look at it when it goes in and normally the nursewill talk to you when shes doing it, if she doesnt have a song going around in your head. :)

Question: Does EMLA cream prevent a lidocaine injection hurting? Would emla cream stop a lidocaine injection hurting in a toe?
Answer: It will reduce the pain, and may stop it. Nobody can say until the needle goes in!
I'm sure a lidocaine injection in the toe won't hurt much anyway.
Question: How effective is Emla cream for injections? Im 14 and having my tetanus/polio booster soon. I am petrified of needles. When i think about it makes me feel ill. I got this cream but would just like to know how effective it is or even if i should bother ?
Answer: I used EMLA regularly for about three years (as a dialysis patient) and I had to have two big dialysis needles put directly into veins.
I gave up using it after a while because I wasn't convinced it was working.
I think the tetanus jab is a "straight in" job rather than the injections into the vein that I had.
You can try the EMLA (put it on about 90 mins before) but if, as I suspect, you are hyper-sensitive to needles, it won't work because you will be so het up.
It's only one injection - a few seconds and then it's all over. Take a deep breath and think "this will NOT hurt, and in ten seconds this will be done"
Tell the person injecting you that you don't like needles. If they are any good, they will put you at ease.
Tell yourself that if you think this injection is bad, tetanus and polio are MUCH worse, and this is what you are protecting yourself from.
Question: When using EMLA cream, does it matter if you dont put the dressing on top? Your meant to put some kind of dressing on top of the cream but, does it matter if you don't?
Answers are appreciated!
Answer: it still works without transparent dressing, but it's the only way of keeping the cream on unless u stay still for 45 mins for it to work!
Question: Can i use Emla cream for Tetanus, Polio& Diphtheria Injection? I have a big problem with needles and im a bit of a wimp because i've got my tetanus polio injection in a few days and i know im a wimp but is it ok to use Emla cream ( Numbing cream). (Im 15)
Also from people's personal experiences what is it like, does it hurt etc....
Answer: Yes, u can. Just be sure to put it on about 30 minutes before your appt. Also, Emla is a prescribed medication. So be sure & get it called in soon. Emla is just a numbing cream. You'll still feel it a little bit but the initial stick should be pain free.
Question: How can i get Emla cream 5%? I am getting my tattoo touched up and the tattoo artist recomended I buy some Emla cream but when I go into pharmacy's they refuse to give me it because it is for a tattoo.

Answer: Though Emla is not a prescription only drug it is generally only supplied to the medical profession. Tattoos are really not painful, I have had 5 including revisions, don't be a wimp James!
Question: Does a industrial piercing hurt with the use of EMLA cream? I have the cream, but I haven't got the piercing yet.
Answer: A good piercer will NOT pierce you if you have used any sort of numbing agent. The piercing will be very quick, just suck it up and deal with it.

Question: Emla Cream and eyebrow piercing? im planning on buying Emla Cream for when i get my double- eyebrow piercings (like spiderbites but on eyebrow instead) they are right next to eachother.
i heard there are risks with the cream, what are they?
also anything else i need to know Emla Cream?
Answer: "During or immediately after treatment with EMLA Cream on intact skin, the skin at the site of treatment may develop erythema or edema or may be the locus of abnormal sensation. Rare cases of discrete purpuric or petechial reactions at the application site have been reported. Rare cases of hyperpigmentation following the use of EMLA Cream have been reported. The relationship to EMLA Cream or the underlying procedure has not been established. In clinical studies on intact skin involving over 1,300 EMLA Cream-treated subjects, one or more such local reactions were noted in 56% of patients, and were generally mild and transient, resolving spontaneously within 1 or 2 hours. There were no serious reactions that were ascribed to EMLA Cream.Allergic and anaphylactoid reactions associated with lidocaine or prilocaine can occur. They are characterized by urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm, and shock. If they occur they should be managed by conventional means. The detection of sensitivity by skin testing is of doubtful value."
This was from the article I mentioned below.
These are some side effects.
But really, eyebrow piercings don't hurt all that much.
It's two small pinches and then it's over.
There are quite a few side effects and I really don't think the Emla cream would be worth it.
Question: Do you need a prescription to buy Emla cream at Walgreens? If you need a prescription at Walgreens, is there any place (besides internet) that you can buy it without? I CAN get the prescription, but i dont want to go through the trouble.
Answer: I don't think so. I just asked my co-worker she used to work at walgreens, she said no. Sorry, Good Luck.
Question: Has anyone used Emla cream for a belly button piercing? If so, does it work to numb the skin that far down so it doesn't hurt? What are your experiences with it? Any other information would be great, thanks!
Answer: Yes I have used it for a navel piercing, and it doesn't work completely. It is a topical anesthetic, so it numbs only the surface of the skin. So you don't feel it on the outside, but you do feel it on the inside. It wears off in about an hour; once that hour is up, it hurts worse because you suddenly feel all of the pain, instead of having a sharp pinch and gradual discomfort.
The navel piercing is not that painful. I do not recommend using a numbing cream.
Question: Has anyone used EMLA cream on themselves or their child for ear piercing? Did it help?
Did you put it on both sides of your/child's ear lobe?
Thanks!
Answer: I've used it on my eldest daughter when she was about 7. I put it on the front and back of her ears. When she had them pierced she said she didn't feel a thing. I think you have to keep it on for an hour before the piercing though. She didn't get an infection from the Emla cream but she did get an infection about 12 months later and had to have them taken out. I plan to use it again for my other children when they get theirs done. If you stick to the proper after-piercing care then you shouldn't get an infection.
