Plaque
A sticky film on the surface of the teeth containing bacteria that contributes to tooth decay and gum disease
Question: What is the plaque or snot between your front teeth at night time? I wake up especially in winter with plaque or phlegm or snot between my front two big teeth.
What is this? Is this some sort of snot most likely? I dont understand how a huge chunk of plaque could just form on one part of the mouth and not on other teeth.
Answer: I have never heard of this happening, nor does it happen to me. It doesnt sound like a serious health problem though. The next time you visit a doctor, bring it up and see what he has to say. If I had to guess, I'd assume if you slept with your mouth open, mucus might drip down your nose and collect on your front teeth. Do you brush your teeth regularly and floss? What color is this phlegm you speak of?
Question: Do built-up plaque and cholesterol in your arteries ever go away if you start a diet and exercise plan? I know eating poorly and not exercising can lead to a build up of cholesterol and plaque in your heart's arteries. I am just curious if one starts a diet and exercise program after a bunch of cholesterol has built up, will the build-up go away or is it there forever (other than surgery)?
Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it.
Answer: Please forgive me for being quite blunt in my reply but I am sick and tired of seeing good people lied to about what diet or exercise program will be their magic cure.
It is far kinder I believe, and more helpful to know the facts, as ugly as they are...That way you have a fighting chance.
The facts are not very uplifting, but here they are... At least you are aware of this junk in your system. Yes... Right now, there is a ton of deadly 'plaque' inside your intestines, not to mention harmful 'parasites' (mostly worms!) that are making and keeping you fat!
The fact is: 99.9% of all people living within the United States, and about 91% of everyone else living outside of America are infested with this JUNK.
And it's put there on purpose! ( I know this sounds like “men in dark suits with sunglasses flying in black helicopters” kinda stuff.)..But you gotta hear it, it's for your own good...
And yes there is a solution, so read on. This article called." Free Me From Fat Forever" certainly breaks the mold on everything that the media feeds us to do with weight loss.
If it is the truth, it's quite shocking?
I hope it can help
Question: At what age does plaque start building up in your arteries? I'm wondering if a 13 year old can have a artery with a bunch of plaque?
Answer: Depending on diet and family history it may start as early as age 10. Keep yourself fit, eat healthy and this will be one less thing you'll have to worry about.

Question: How can you tell if all plaque is removed while flossing? The floss is white, so basically same colour as the plaque but I can never tell if all of it has gone. I floss regularly but can't tell if all the plaque has gone. I've recently had my teeth cleaned of tartar by my dentist and hoping to keep it clean. I also use mouthwash (listerine) but still can't tell if all the plaque has gone.
Answer: you'll see a lumpy looking floss as the plaque will make the floss look uneven.
Question: How to get a stubborn father with plaque in arteries to Dr? He had an initial test at work and they referred him to another doctor because he has plaque in his carotid arteries. My father is only in his 50's and he will not go to the doctor. My mother and I are afraid he will stroke. How can we get him to realize how serious this is?
Answer: First of all, as sad as it may sound it is his life and his decision. BUT. If you were my daughter and came to me in tears explaining to me that I was the only source of strength in your life and you still had things to learn from me I would probably get down to the dr.=) Seriously, the procedure is not that bad and he will feel 20 years younger. My grandma had it done and she was in no pain and was very happy she did it. Good luck sweetie, and sit in his lap and hug him so he can feel the tears.=)
Question: What are natural ways to eliminate dental plaque? When I say a natural way I mean: No Dentist!
I have a check up in about 10 days and I want to make sure my teeth are in tip top shape.
How do I eliminate dental plaque?
Answer: You brush and floss!! Couldn't be easier than that.
Plaque is the soft white stuff you can scrape off your teeth... tartar is the calcified plaque and is embedded in your tooth. This is why you need to go to the dental hygienist on a regular basis.
The thing about trying to remove plaque right before your dental appointment (as opposed to brushing 2xday and flossing at least 3 x week)... is that as dental professionals, we can tell what your oral health and oral health habits are just by looking at your oral tissues.... gums, tongue, cheeks etc. You can't fool us!!
Question: How reliable is the new scan for plaque in your vessels? I was watching the news the other day and they have a new scan which is much like a CT scan to show plaque build up in your vessels. They were taking people off the street who were obviously overweight and middle aged to run this scan. They told one lady she had a moderate amount of plaque built up in her heart and you could see the big white spots of plaque.
Is this test reliable? Is it expensive? If its so great, why arent they using it on everyone?
Answer: Contrary to what the first answer said, it's not an experiment.
Cardiac CT (and MRI) have been used for maybe 5 years.
The gold standard (for now) is still cardiac catheterization.
Question: How does Listerine (the mouthwash) work against plaque? I already know the four active ingredients: menthol, thymol, eucalyptol, and methyl salicylate. There is also some alcohol involved. How do these chemicals work together against plaque? Do their molecular structures help them in this process and if so, how? Thanks. =)
Answer: well.. menthol is mainly added to give you that burning sensation. It gives you a psychological effect that its actually working in that area. Thymol and eucalyptol (essential oils) are the active ingredients which work against plaque and (ultimately)tartar.Eucalyptol is also known to have antibacterial activity. Methyl salicylate is a flavoring agent. It produces the peppermint kind of unique flavor.
Higher the percent of alcohol, higher is the affect of flavor in the mouth.
Mechanism of action of thymol and eucalyptol at molecular is unknown to me also.

Question: How do ceramic plaque heaters work? Can anyone explain how a gas ceramic plaque heater works? I am amazed at the amount of heat it puts out. What does the honeycomb design of the ceramic have to do with it? Thanks!
Answer: Radiant heat? The honey comb makes high and low pressure winds that will move air around and suck cold air from the bottom and put out hot air on the top thus moving the heat faster.

Question: What can change the texture of dental plaque to make it more noticeable? I'd like to know what a person can put on their teeth to change the texture of plaque deposits to help them find it with their tongue (instead of dyeing the plaque red with a chewable tablet).
I'm looking for something that a person with a visually impairment might be able to use - so changing the color of the plaque is not useful in this case.
Answer: i know there is a type of listerine called agent blue, its ment for kids but it does turn the plaque on your teeth blue so u can see it, its ment as an aid for brushing
Question: How long would it take to clean up a massive plaque buildup? Under braces? I have a special toothbrush that does the spinning motions for you. I don't want to have white spots.

Answer: You wont have white marks.
The dentist will clean it off when the braces come off.
Question: Is it a good or bad sign that plaque builds up immediately when eating candy? If I'm eating a lollypop or other hard candy, I feel plaque on my teeth instantly. Is this speed of plaque growth good/bad/neither?
Answer: That would be bad sign since candy doesn't directly cause plaque. Plaque takes longer than that to build up.
