Parsol 1789
A chemical ingredient in sunscreen that inhibits UVA absorption
Question: I recently read an article about what to look for in a suncreen, although I cannot find one.? The article said look for water resistant, very water resistant; avobenzone (Parsol 1789), oxybenzone, mexoryl, titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide. What are some sunscreens that meet these guidelines?
Thank you...
Answer: most aveeno ones do also: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 55, No-Ad Sunblock Lotion Maximum SPF 45 , and Neutrogena Active Breathable Sunblock. GOOD LUCK! =)
Question: Acne Moisturizer- Cetaphil? I have the lowest possible case of acne.. maybe 2 small pimples a month... howver ..i dont know if Cetaphil® Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 with Parsol® 1789 is helping me or just bring out those couple of pimples due to this grease? Should i continue moisturizing?
Answer: Only moisturize if you're dry.
Always use sunscreen, however.
Question: Does sunscreen protect tattoo ink? I exposed my new tattoo to the sun for the first time today, and it got me thinking... is my sunscreen even protecting it?
I've heard no, and I've heard yes. The yes people say that sunscreens with mineral ingredients are what protects tattoos.
My sunscreen has: Enzacamene 5%, Titanium Dioxide 4%, Avobenzone (Parsol 1789) 3.5%, Terephalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid (Mexoryl SX) 3.3%
Is my sunscreen working to protect my ink, or no?
PS
For the sake of being sure to preserve my expensive and beautiful tat, I actually went out and bought a few more long sleeved shirts today haha.
PS my sunscreen is 60 SPF it was the highest SPF I could get with unscented sunscreen.
Yeah here's a link: http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t218/zombiemambo/tat.jpg
I just really admire asian imagery. I'm an art student, and a lot of the non-contemporary stuff that I like was really influenced by japanese prints. The tattoo is an amalgamation of different japanese prints. Also, in a stereotypical kind of way, I think of the tentacles as belonging to bad influences and bad people I've experienced in my life, with the japanese girl rising above them. I originally planned on having an octopus body/head but chose to leave it out for aesthetic and representative reasons. They still have their slimy tentacles on her but she doesn't care, and she has better things to look forward to. Geishas are artists, and so am I (though I'm sure I have much less talent haha). But mostly I just really like the imagery.
I don't think that my "geisha" ended up with traditional geisha clothing but I don't really mind that.
Shorty - it is fully healed. That is, the scabs are all off, but the skin is still tender.
shygirl - thanks n_n
Bug boi - Thank you so much! I'm glad you see what I see behind the imagery, in a way. n_n
Answer: Sun is always bad for tattoos and there is no such thing as 100% uv protection with just sunscreen. If you can get a 70 SPF that would be good, but using the long sleeves will be better.
Can you post a pic of the tat?
60? No worries that'll work.
Sweet Tat! Whats the story behind it?
For the last few years I have thought of the people deep into tattoos with detailed art and meaningful stories as the "geisha" of the present. With your tattoo I saw the tenticals as the people who judge those with tattoos and the way she is just "hu, whatever" is her way of not letting those people judge her cause she knows who she is. The mountain in the background is her way of getting away and not sinking to the level of others prejudging. This is what I saw. I love your story and the meaning behind it. We need Geisha like you!
Question: Cetaphil facial moisturizer irritating skin? I just bought this moisturizer (Cetaphil® Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 with Parsol® 1789) because I had tried a free sample of their cleanswer about a year ago and liked it.
Anyways, they say that it's very gentle, pH balanced, ect...
So I've applied it a few times and really like that it aborbs quickly, not too creamy, overall good light feel... but about 2 minutes after applying my face gets a little warm (same feeling when you get embaressed and feel some blood in your checks) and begin to 'burn' a little. I checked it out and it physically shows very little or no irritation -- perhaps just a little bit flushed in the checks. After about 5 minutes it goes away, by 10 minutes I don't feel anything, and then it's perfectly fine for the rest of the day/night...
I feel this really only in my checks/checkbones, maybe a little around the eyes too.
I tried just putting some on the inside of my wrist as they always recommend to check for allergens but it didn't bother me at all.
... You sometimes get a similar feeling if your skin is extremely dry and you apply lotion that absorbs quickly, but my skin is overall OK. I've tried it now about 4 times and everytime with the same result. I thought that maybe my skin didn't like it after I washed my face with hot water and then applied this lotion, but still got the same result when I rinsed my face with cold water and waited.
Should I see if I can get a refund, should I wait another week to see if my skin adjusts or should I just not worry about it? It's not pleasant, but not like it really hurts.
(Note: I'm a teenager, but it's not like this lotion has any type of salicylic acid in it either.)
Answer: I had the same problem but with a different moisturizer. I would put it on, but after a minute my cheeks would start to feel warm and sometimes there was a little redness. The first time it happened I ignored it because I thought my skin was just dry. But after I used it more and the same thing kept happening, I thought maybe I have sensitive skin. So, I just switched to a Clean & Clear moisturizer and it did not irritate my skin at all. In fact I felt refreshed after using it, as you should. So I would say switch moisturizers before it becomes a problem.
Hope this helps! =)
Question: What product provides excellent clear, waterproof (i.e. sweatproof) sunscreen or sunblock protection? I'm searching for a waterproof sunscreen or sunblock that will not drip as I sweat. I play outdoor sports in the summer, which doesn't typically include swimming. I'm looking for specific product recommendations, and an explanation or personal story with your answer would be appreciated. The product should be clear (or absorbent enough to turn clear), can come in spray (preferred) or lotion form, and should be reasonably priced - not above $20.
Serious answers requested.
Products already tried, which I felt weren't that effective:
- Coppertone Sport Sunscreen Continuous Spray (SPF 30)
- Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Body Mist Sunblock (unsure of SPF, likely 30+)
- Neutrogena Dry-Touch Ultra Sheer Sunblock (unsure of SPF, likely 30+)
- Walgreens Sunscreen Lotion with Parsol 1789 (SPF 50)
Thanks for the answers!
Answer: Take a look at Paula's Choice website. She will give you scientific information about her products and how they work. Some effective products will go on white, but turn clear.
Question: I seriously need help with Tanning? I am a guy, 14 years old, 120 pounds...
(Just saying if any of that really matters)
And I want to get a tan!
I went outside in my swimsuit...and putted on a Walgreens Sunscreen Lotion with PARSOL 1789
It says very water resistant
SPF 50
I poured a little in my hand and just smeared it everywhere on my body...I forgot to do my legs though...
I then set a timer for 20 minutes...and just laid in the sun...in my backyard....then when the timer started to go off, I went back inside, took a quick shower, to get the sticky sunscreen off of me, and changed back into my clothes.
I am thinking of doing this tomorrow as well...except with 5 min extra...and continue this...with 5min extra each time...
Is this a good technique to get a tan? How long does it take to get a tan? Will my tan show up quick? Should I flip over ever 5 minutes? Will my tan show up in 3 days? How much time?
I feel as though 20 min is too short...?
Is this working?
Answer: Try a tanning bed.
Question: Is there a body lotion with sunscreen that has Parsol 1789/ Avobenzone? I'm looking for a body lotion I can use daily that has an spf of 15 or higher (prefer spf 30), and has Avobenzone (Parsol1798). Does anyone know of any brands that make this?
Thank you so much!
Answer: Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Age Shield Hand Cream SPF 30
Boscia Daily Hand Revival Therapy SPF 15
RoC Retinol Correxion Hand Repair SPF 15
And some that are billed as sun lotions, but have moisturizing ingredients:
Estee Lauder Multi-Protection Sun Lotion for Body SPF 30
Nu Skin Sunright Body Block SPF 30
Clinique Sun-Care UV-Response Body Cream SPF 30
Question: Are there any non-animal tested, gentle facial clensers and moisturizers? I went to a dermatologist for acne and have been advised to find a good SPF moisturizer with ZINC OXIDE, TITANIUM DIOXIDE, or AVOBENZONE/PARSOL 1789. I couldn't find any in my local store that didn't test on animals. I also would love to know if there is a Cetaphil-like clenser that is cruelty-free?
I avoid buying anything tested on animals but I would love to find a great product to help with my ance, also.
Answer: Katie, for mild cleanser I use Olay foaming. It does not dry out the skin like normal/acne cleansers do. Second for facial lotion I like & use Cura Serum by Isabella Pelle, highly concentrated facial lotion with high concentrations of the best moisturizer known to date; hyaluronic acid. Like you I don't use products that are tested on animals. For acne I suggest using spot treatment like Oxy10 and just apply directly on the zit. It makes no sense to apply to the entire face acne medication for rogue zits. Hope this helps.
