Far Sighted

The ability to see clearly only objects at a distance; difficulty seeing objects up close

Question: Far Sighted? This is what happened : I went to have my eyecheck and they told me i am farsighted, and very likely since I was very young. I'm now 13. And am 200 something degrees farsighted in one eye, and the other 300 something. The weird thing is, I can see tiny words without any problem, the doctors all think I can't see clearly, but I can see better than all my friends. The same thing happened to my brother (elder) and now he's 16/17, with only 50 degrees far sighted. He used to be 600 at 9, 200-300 at 13, and now he has a very good eyesight.... What's wrong with my eyesight? WHat is this called? Do I have the same condition as my brother did?

Answer: It's called "Farsighted" or "Hyperopia". Meaning you see things far away bad, but have no problem seeing things up close. Farsighted peoples' eyes' are too short from front to back, causing light rays to be focused behind rather then on the back of your eye (retina). People who are severely farsighted are able to see clearly only objects that are a great distance away from their eyes. If you're mildly farsighted, you may be able to see clearly objects that are closer to you. Farsightedness usually is present at birth and tends to run in families. Most young people don't know they have the condition because the lens of their eye is flexible enough to compensate for the condition. Therefore, most young people with farsightedness don't need corrective lenses. But as they age, the lens becomes less elastic and unable to make the necessary adjustment. By middle age, most farsighted people need corrective lenses to improve their near vision. A basic eye exam can confirm farsightedness. You can easily correct this condition with eyeglasses or contact lenses. I myself am the opposite. I'm "Nearsighted" otherwise known as Having "Myopia". Meaning I don't see distant items so well but I see close up things fine. The treatment for these 2 are glasses & operation can never replace glasses. Luckily, glasses are convinient & easy to care for. You put em on when you need seeing, & take em off when you don't). - Hope I Helped, Keep it easy & Good luck
