Far Sighted
The ability to see clearly only objects at a distance; difficulty seeing objects up close
Question: Far Sighted? This is what happened :
I went to have my eyecheck and they told me i am farsighted, and very likely since I was very young. I'm now 13. And am 200 something degrees farsighted in one eye, and the other 300 something. The weird thing is, I can see tiny words without any problem, the doctors all think I can't see clearly, but I can see better than all my friends. The same thing happened to my brother (elder) and now he's 16/17, with only 50 degrees far sighted. He used to be 600 at 9, 200-300 at 13, and now he has a very good eyesight.... What's wrong with my eyesight? WHat is this called? Do I have the same condition as my brother did?
Answer: It's called "Farsighted" or "Hyperopia". Meaning you see things far away bad, but have no problem seeing things up close. Farsighted peoples' eyes' are too short from front to back, causing light rays to be focused behind rather then on the back of your eye (retina). People who are severely farsighted are able to see clearly only objects that are a great distance away from their eyes. If you're mildly farsighted, you may be able to see clearly objects that are closer to you.
Farsightedness usually is present at birth and tends to run in families. Most young people don't know they have the condition because the lens of their eye is flexible enough to compensate for the condition. Therefore, most young people with farsightedness don't need corrective lenses. But as they age, the lens becomes less elastic and unable to make the necessary adjustment. By middle age, most farsighted people need corrective lenses to improve their near vision.
A basic eye exam can confirm farsightedness. You can easily correct this condition with eyeglasses or contact lenses. I myself am the opposite. I'm "Nearsighted" otherwise known as Having "Myopia". Meaning I don't see distant items so well but I see close up things fine. The treatment for these 2 are glasses & operation can never replace glasses. Luckily, glasses are convinient & easy to care for. You put em on when you need seeing, & take em off when you don't).

Question: How many people are near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other? My left eye is near sighted and my right eye is far sighted.
I thought everyone in the world was like this.
When I went to the eye doctor I found out its a rare condition.
Anyone else like this?
Answer: It isn't all that common , but you aren't alone.
I have several patients in my files who have the same condition.
Question: What is the difference between near sighted and far sighted? I thought it was good to be far-sighted, why is it considered blindness? and what about short-sightedness? both types of blindess!
Answer: You may be confusing far-sightedness (hyperopia), with presbyopia, which is the eye's inability to focus on close-up things.
Nearsightedness, "myopia", can be considered legally blind if your vision is 20-200 or higher.
Question: Can Apes or Monkeys have near sighted or far sighted vision? Since monkeys and apes are related to humans, i was wondering if they could have near sighted or far sighted vision. Also, could other animals like dogs, cats, foxes, and etc have near sighted or far sighted vision? thanks for your help!
Answer: Yes, The apes and monkey do have astigmatism just like humans and the other animals.
Question: Why are glasses for near sighted people so much more expensive than those for far-sighted? seriously you can walk into any drug store or grocery store and pick up a pair of reading glasses for a few bucks, but in order to buy glasses for near-sighted people you're looking to spend $100 plus for just the frames.
and why is it that they don't sell over the counter glasses for near-sighted people, just for far-sighted?
Answer: Because near-sighted glasses require a certain perscription for the person, rather than just magnifying the image. I wear glasses as well as contacts and it would be too difficult to buy near-sighted glasses because my perscription is too strong, and too percise.
Question: How do you become near-sighted or far-sighted?
Answer: Near -sightedness and far-sightedness are determined by the shape of the eye and cornea. It's not something you can "choose or control." LASIK surgery can improve some case, but results may vary.
Your options are correctives lenses or surgery. If you feel the surgery option would fit your budget and lifestyle, schedule a consultation with a local eye surgeon.

Answer: the reason they dont sell near sighted glasses over the counter is because it can be damaging to the eyes if you purchase the wrong magnification for your eyes needs.
Thats why you go get your eyes tested and have the "right" glasses made up for you.
As for the cheap glasses, they are cheaply made and dont have much magnification at all.... plus they should only be used for temporary reading glasses, not everyday wear
Question: Can you get contacts if your far sighted? Okay well I am far sighted, I need reading glasses, I get really sick of putting my glasses on and off and losing them all the time. Are there contacts you can get for far sighted people?
Answer: Yes, you can ge lenses to correct short sight or long sight, get an appointment with your optician and they will explain what is best for you.
Question: what would happen if you wear far sighted glasses if you're nearsighted? Just a crazy idea, but would your vision get more normal over time? Since the eyes do adjust themselves over time (playing too much video games and watching too much tv can make you nearsighted), can wearing far sighted glasses make your vision better (like constantly staring into the distance)? Or is this something i should not try because it could screw up my eyes?
Answer: ,wearing a farsighted prescription if your nearsighted will not correct your vision. Also playing video games and watching too much t.v. does not cause you to become nearsighted. All that will happen is you will cause eyestrain that could possibly give you headaches. The way your eyes work is muscles pull on various parts of your eyes to allow them to alter how light passes through thus they will always try to see properly through any correction. By looking through the wrong prescription these muscles are just strained unnecessarily. Just before you ask by straining these muscles you can not make your eyesight better, as your prescription is not caused by weak muscles but by the shape of your cornea (the major refracting surface of you eye), so strengthening the muscles will not make it so you don't need glasses. Question: Is there such thing as far sighted contact lenses? So I can see far but not close. That means I'm far sighted. Well i just recently visited my doctor & he said there's no such thing as far sighted contact lenses, so he couldn't prescribe any to me. I kinda think somethings wrong .. I really need contacts, because I do nails & it'd be alot more comfortable with contacts. Thank you !
Answer: Whatttt, lol My brother is far sighted and he wears contact lenses, so do many other people, e,g friends and family.
That Optician isn't really much of one at all.
Question: How far sighted will I be? In the next few weeks I am going to be undergoing Cataract surgery. I have been near sighted my entire life and have been informed that I will now be far sighted after the surgery. However since I have never been far sighted I have no reference for what exactly this means.
Could anyone who has undergone the surgery please explain to me a bit how far is far sighted or whatever?
Answer: it really depends on how healthy your eyes are, no one can tell you for sure how good you may see post surgery. You will likely just need glasses for near correction so you can read and do computer work.
Question: Can lasik surgery help people who are far-sighted? I read that it's good for people who are near-sighted. I'm near-sighted in one eye and far-sighted in the other.
Answer: Lasik is capable of correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It doesn't matter whether one eye is one and the other is another. Each eye is dealt with separately based upon its own individual needs.
EDIT: Carson D is confusing farsightedness with a condition called presbyopia. Farsightedness is NOT a difficulty with focusing at near. That is what presbyopia is. This is one of the most common misconceptions by those who are not educated in eye care.
Question: How come one of my eyes seem to be near sighted and the other far sighted? If I close my left eye I can see objects clear up close but objects far away are fuzzy, and if I close my right eye objects up close are fuzzy but objects far away are clear.
Answer: That's not at all uncommon. Each eye needs its on prescription.
Question: Is it possible to make yourself far-sighted or near-sighted ? How? I don't want to, I'm just curious. Can you make yourself far-sighted? If so, how? How far-sighted could you make yourself?
Also, could you make yourself near-sighted? And once again, how would you?
Thank you very much.
Answer: cant make yourself farsighted at all.
you *CAN* make yourself more NEARSIGHTED (temporarily anyway) by constant reading and computer work w/o a break. its called "accommodative spasm" aka "pseudomyopia":

Question: What is the difference between someone who is far sighted and someone who is near sighted? What kind of lens (concave/convex) will correct this issue? Explain.
also .. if u can find any pictures to support your information that'll be great too. thx
Answer: If you are nearsighted, things in the distance are not focused without correction. If you are farsighted, nearby objects do not focus properly.
Question: What's the difference between being near sighted and far sighted?
Answer: If you are nearsighted it means that you can clearly see things that are close to you but far away things look blurred.
If you are farsighted things that are close look blurry or are difficult to focus on while distant objects are more clear. If you you are very farsighted both close and distant vision will be blurred.
Nearsightedness is caused by the eyeball being too long for the focusing power of the cornea and lens. So images of distant objects get focused short of the retina and you get a blurred image. With farsightedness the eyeball is either too short or the focusing power of the lens and cornea is too weak.
Nearsightedness is corrected with concave lenses (thin in the middle and thicker at the edge). Farsightedness is corrected with convex lenses (thicker in the middle).
Question: how do people get glasses or become far-sighted? i know this sounds weird but i want to wear glasses to become far-sighted and bad at seeing. for those who wear or know about glasses, what causes your eyes to mess up? is it from reading too much? staring at a screen too much? what is it?
Answer: What idiocy. Most people with glasses would jump at a chance to get rid of them for good.
Question: What would happen if i wear glasses made for people who are far sighted and i am near sighted? I heard that if you use glasses that don't belong to you, you would damage your eyes. I also remeber "getting used" to a pair of new glasses .Since i have myopia (nearsightness), can it b cure by getting used to a pair of glasses that are meant for peple who are longsighted? would it cancel out?
Answer: no. it jus makes evrythin look really big nd blurry. u kan try it but i dont think itll work
Question: Is it normal for a teen to be far sighted? I'm fourteen, and needs glasses to read. All my friends use glasses to see far away stuff except me. I don't know if it is normal or isn't. Also, I got my glasses in August but since I got my glasses, I have been seeing blurry also with my glasses on. What can I do?
Answer: Yes it is normal. Im 15 and wear contacts, I've been wearing glasses since I been 10.
Question: can i buy myopic far sighted eyeglasses at the drugstore without a prescription? i am in need of glasses asap. i dont need really strong ones but still....its annoying to see things a little more blurry than normal. can i get some non prescription ones? where?
Answer: Iirc, it isn't legal to sell glasses for distance correction without a prescription in the US or Canada. OTC readers are nothing more than magnifying glasses to help people read and they're unregulated, but anyone who cannot see in the distance needs an exam and properly made, properly fitted glasses from a dispensary.
