Question: When I bite my nails, I notice people around me start to bite their nails to. Why is this? I'm 18 years old and a habitual nail biter. I've been biting my nails since 4 years old. I've noticed when I'm around people, I bite my nails (subconsciously). The funny thing is I've noticed that people around me start to chew on their nails to. Is their a term for this or is it just random?
Answer: Maybe it's contagious, just like yawning. I've tried it out myself - sat in a room and yawned, all of a sudden everyone else was yawning and I thought "What the hell?!" I guess it's one of these mysteries in life.
Question: What is the difference between a bite plate and a bite plane? I'm not sure if the orthodontist said bite plate or bite plane? Are they both real? Some of my friends say there is only such thing as a bite plate; the others say there is only a bite plane. Please explain!
Answer: An appliance that covers the palate. It has an inclined or flat plane at its anterior border that offers resistance to the mandibular incisors when they come into contact with it. Also called bite plate.
Question: Why do cats sometimes bite when they are relaxed? I have a cat that bites me when he is relaxed. He sleeps with me at night, and he will rub on my arm or my face, and when I pet him, he starts to lick me and then he bites me. It's not like an agressive bite though. It's a soft bite but I just don't understand why he does this.
Answer: Those are usually referred to as love bites. He's just showing some affection to you, much like touching noses. When they're all snuggled in, getting lots of petting and loving, they want to return the favor! As long as they don't bite too hard, I let mine nibble once in a while! He's just loving you.
Question: What animal has the strongest bite in the world? They said on Dirty Jobs that the alligator turtle has the 2nd strongest bite in the world, but what has the strongest bite?
Ali gators and Crocodiles have a very strong bite, so do Hippos. But is it one of those animals or is there something with a stronger bite?
Answer: GREAT white sharks really do have the meanest jaws on the planet, say experts.
The fierce ocean predators have a bite force of about 1.8 tonnes - that's 20 times more powerful than humans.
Even a large African lion, with a bite force of 560g, can't compare with the shark's massive mouth.
Scientists used the latest X-ray and scanner technology for their research.
The team at the University of New South Wales made 3D models of the skull of an 8ft male great white using images from a CT scanner.
They digitally "crash tested" their computer model to simulate different scenarios and reveal the powerful bite of the fearsome predator.
The experts also worked out the complex distributions of stresses and strains that these forces impose on the shark's jaws.
But even the great white seems small fry when compared with the carcharodon megalodon. Dubbed Big Tooth, it was a prehistoric shark that was 53ft long and had a bite of around 18 tonnes.
It hunted large whales by biting off their tail and flippers before feeding at will.
By comparison, T-Rex could only manage a bite force of around 3.1 tonnes.
Steve Wroe, the study's lead author, said: "Pound for pound, the great white's bite is not particularly impressive but the sheer size of the animal means that it tops the scales.
"It must also be remembered that its extremely sharp serrated teeth require relatively little force to drive them through thick skin, fat and muscle.
"Nature has endowed this carnivore with more than enough bite force to kill and eat large and potentially dangerous prey."
Great whites can grow to about 20 feet in length and live for 30-40 years.
Hope it helps you!
Question: How important is feeding small bite dog food to small dogs? I feed my dachshund Wellness but their small bite doesn't come in 30 lb bags. I've been contemplating just buying the regular size bites for her so I can get the larger bags. Is their any downside to this as long as she's able to chew and still finds the larger bites appetizing?
Answer: I have seen my little Jack Russell Cross munch on an enormous marrowbone that is three times his size, till there is nothing left. Trust me if they want it, they'll eat it! N.B. Our Vet said my dog has excellent teeth from all that chewing!
Question: What is the best way to train sugar gliders not to bite? I have a sugar glider and so far I have been very lucky. She is extremely sweet, has no problems being handled and very rarely bites. However she does still bite on occasion and I would like to completely break her of the habit before she gets bigger and can really do damage. I have been cupping her in my hands so she has a small amount of room to curl up but is still trapped and cant get out, this causes her to bite, and also gives me some warning that she is about to bite so I can hold my hands perfectly still as she bites me. Eventually she stops biting me and curls up in my hands and goes to sleep. My theory is eventually she will learn that biting does no good. Is this a good method?
Answer: it sounds like she don`t like that and that's why shes biting you they are very sensitive animals and very skittish animals you can pocket train her in like a fanny pack lined in fleece and just carry her around all day while shes sleeping and that will make her closer to you and then she should stop biting they bite out of nervousness i`ve had 2 of them but they past away because of stress i had one for almost a year and then bought another one to mate them and it stressed both of them out because i put them in the same cage and they died it sucked so be very careful with them also when you pocket train them you can take them every where you go it cool i did it
Question: How long does it take a poisonous spider bite to progress? Okay, I posted another question earlier because I have multiple red-blotchy bites on my feet. My right ankle became swollen a day after I got bit, then my whole foot swelled up in the next two days.
Most of the swelling is down, but the blotches are really big, and I'm experiencing numbness / tingling in my foot.
It's now day 4.
What is the average rate for a poisonous spider bite to progress?
Also, I've heard fever / muscle spasms / pain are also signs of poisonous spider bites, but I have none of those symptoms. Is it really a spider bite, or something else?
Answer: Definitely go to your doctor and ask about a Brown Recluse. My dad got bitten by one of those and it was really nasty. Sound like your symptoms somewhat. Go have it checked out ASAP.
Question: What animal alive now has the strongest bite? I've been looking into this and many answers have been given. I want to know what animal has the strongest bite? I mean just the strongest bite not in relation to size.

Thanks in advance for all the answers!
Answer: The strongest bite is of nile croc or alleg..Dr.Brady found it out . it came in natgeo.
Question: What is the difference between a snake bite and a spider bite peircing? ok my boyfriend is getting a spider bite lip piercing and a snake bite lip piercing? because 2 me they look the same can some one explain?
oh sorry i ment 2 put my boyfriend is getting a spider bite lipe piercing. but idk what the difference is between them is so i guess this is my real question
his brother has a snake bite
Answer: A snakebite piercing is when you have a piercing on both sides of the bottom lip.
A spiderbite piercing is when you have two piercings on one side of the bottom lip.
To be honest, I think spiderbite piercings look retarded. If I were you, try to talk him into getting just snakebites.
Question: How can I tell the difference between a spider bite and a mosquito bite? This weekend I stayed at my parents, and when I got home, I found 4 bites on me. I assumed they were mosquito bites, although I really didnt spend any time outside. They itch like CRAZY even after I put cream on them.
Yesterday I realized that they could be spider bites, because I have found spiders in the bed I sleep in at my parents'
Today I noticed that two of the bites have what I can only describe as holes. It's a single hole in each bite, and the bites are big and red. 2 of them seem to me bigger then the average mosquito bite, but maybe I'm just being paranoid
also, I dont remember having mosquito bite itch this long and this much.
Are there any over-the counter things I can do? I really dont want to go to the doctor...
this isnt me, but its sort of what mine looks like:
http://polkadotstripe.typepad.com/photos…
its definitly not black, and if it is a spider bite, its not anything poisonous, because it's been a few days and i dont feel anything other then the cold i've had for awhile
Answer: I live on the gulf coast of Texas, so I know a thing or two about mosquitoes and spiders. First all spiders are poisonous. Some just don't affect humans the way they do their prey. A mosquito bite will be red with a raised bump in the middle. If you don't scratch the bite too much the skin should not be broken. I don't ever recall ever seeing a hole in the skin from a mosquito bite. It is possible to have mosquitoes in the house without realizing it. They could have come in on someone or followed them into the house. They are small and if there aren't a lot of them, they are sometimes hard to see.
I am not very allergic to them and so I don't itch or swell very much. But my son is and he will get a hive about three inches from one bite and he itches very badly with them. I will open up a benadryl capsule and make a paste out of it with water, it seems to help with both the itching and the swelling.
If the bite in the picture looks like your bite and you are still having symptoms, go see your doctor. Mosquito bites shouldn't itch for more than a couple of days and there should never be an open spot unless you have scratched it so much as to have broken the skin and caused an infection.
Either way, spider bite, you did say that you woke up with spiders in the bed, or infected mosquito bite, you need to see a doctor to have appropriate care. My daughter receive a spider bite on her lower back once. We did not realize that she had been bitten until she started running a fever and vomiting. She ended up with an area of about a half an inch rotted out of her back before it was all over. Spider bites are nothing to fool around with.
Just a little added trivia: It is the female mosquitoes that bite. If you let the mosquito drink its fill and don't hit it, the bite is supposed to not itch as badly if any at all.
Good luck

Question: What is the best way to heal a noseams bite? I am located in Arizona and every year I get these bites and they turn into a small welt and burn and then leave a scab even though instead of scratching I rub the area. Are they similiar to a chigger bite? Should I use clear nail polish to cover the bite? My husband doesn't get these bites like I do. I don't wear perfume or scented lotions either!
Answer: In Florida, I found something that works great. I think it was called "Itch Gone". It's a clear liquid that comes in a small plastic bottle with a sponge applicator top.
Question: How important is it to correct a change in my bite? I recently began treatment for sleep apnea with a custom-fitted oral appliance - a mouth piece that I wear at night to pull my jaw forward. This has done an excellent job in preventing snoring, but has altered my bite. My dentist was very concerned by this, but the doctor that fitted the device (also a dentist) indicated that a change in bite is not serious - nothing more than an annoyance. The change in bite does not bother me, but I am afraid it will cause damage to my teeth down the road. Is this something that I should be concerened about? Do I need to get the bite corrected? I'm kind of in a bad situation where I have to choose between the effective treatment for sleep apnea, and the bite problem.
Answer: 1stly, since the appliance was to protract your jaw, a change in bite shud`ve been predicted. u need to consult an orthodontist as well, regarding the new bite and whether is it leading to a malocclusion. in this case, all your teeth will be affected over time and change in their positions may occur.
also, a change in bite could lead to temporomandibular joint dysfunction, though the manifestation is not immediate which might cause ur dentist to overlook the bite change.
so confirm with an orthodontist.
Question: How important is it to close an open bite? So how important is it to close my open bite. I am an adult so I'd need braces + surgery. Some dentists seem to think it's really important while others say I have enough contact with my other teeth so it really shouldn't matter. My bite is only open in the very front, meaning my four front teeth don't touch. I have a tongue thrust so I've been told I need to wear a retainer for the rest of my life. Otherwise my bite could reopen.
Answer: your open bite may cause your eating abilities to be different from other people. with this open bite, your jaw will hurt when eating and so on.
Question: How do I treat a mosquito bite on the lip? I've been bit in many places to include the arms, legs, back, chest, ears, face and even my eyebrow. This is the first I've been bitten on the lip. It doesn't itch, but it is rather swollen and quite uncomfortable. How would I treat a bite on the lip? It would just seem odd to apply an anti-itch cream of sort on the lip to help the healing. Any takes on this or any previous victims of such attacks?
Answer: I would use either pure essential oil of Lavender or a product called Camphophenique - a dilution of Camphor oil. Either one will help with pain and swelling and are safe to ingest in small amounts.
Question: What percentage of people bite their fingernails? I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm 23 and I still bite my nails. I'd love to stop but I can't. It's subconcious and I just can't control it.
I wonder am I in the minority, or do lots of people out there do the same? Also, any suggestions for how to stop?
It's not always subconscious. Sometimes, when I stop biting for a few days and let my nails grow out, that's when the temptation comes in and I just can't help it - I see that white nail and I just HAVE to bite it. It gives me satisfaction to bite them. Is there something wrong with me? I wish I could stop. Please help me.
Answer: It doent make you a bad person! There are 6 peopele in my family and of those 6, 2 bite their fingernails. My mom wanted to stop so she just stopped...7 days to make or break a habbit...Good luck!
Question: Do hamster bites hurt and why do some bite and not others? My friend keeps getting bitten by her hamster when she handles her. She says it hurts really bad but I was wondering if she was overexaggerating a bit. I've never been bit by my hamster, he's really very placid. I was just wondering why some hamsters bite and others dont.
Answer: Oh well yes hamster bites can hurt. But the reason sometimes they don't is because it depends how hard the hamster bites you, the size of the teeth, and how agitated it was to bite. I do not have a hamster, but my friend does. It has only bitten me twice, out of the past year she's had him. The first time he bit it barely hurt and it only felt like a little pinch. The second time it actually hurt...
Anyway, remember some hamsters are nicer than others, just like people. Some may be over territorial and others friendly. Here is a great link for your friend to show him/her how to tame his/her hamster: http://russiandwarfhamsters.tripod.com/h…
I really suggest your friend reads it! Hope I could help! Happy New year!!!!
Question: Why do neutered male cats try and bite while they are kneading? Both my cat, my parents, and my childhood cat did this. If you try to even walk by one, or pet the other, they mew loudly and try to bite. Now I know this has something to do with their kneading from infancy, but what does the biting have to do with it? Maybe they are telling us to leave them be, so why does he do it on my belly?
Answer: Biting is a sign of affection from a cat. They don't like their teeth to be just anywhere! Of course, it can be become a problem. My male cat does this, but I have trained him about how much tolerance I have. A tap on the nose was the way I showed him I wasn't pleased, and eventually, he got it. He still drags his teeth on me, but it doesn't hurt.
If you are talking about a REAL BREAK THE SKIN VICIOUS BITE, then I am at a loss. Good luck.
Question: How to reduce open bite problem in a simple way? I am having open bite problem due to thumb sucking in my childhood. Its a kinda lowering my self-confidence and self -esteem when speaking to others. I have brackets too but it's helping in no way.
Answer: You will need to stop sucking your thumb. it takes 22 days to brake a habit. You will need a canal on your bite and you need braces with rubberbands. Your teeth will also need to be spaced out.
Question: Should I be worried that my pitbull puppy will bite others when she grows up? And if so how do I train her not to bite the neighbors? Right now she's nice to people she doesn't know but she will occasionally bite me. I want her for protection but I don't want her biting the wrong people.
Answer: Train her not to play nip.
If she nips you say "ouch" and ignore her for about 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat every single time she nips you without fail. Teach her biting people is not acceptable behavior.
Once that training is done it's done. She isn't going to grow up and randomly start attacking people.
