Blepharochalasis

Redundancy of skin in the upper eyelids

Question: small hard mass on the eyelid; formed from a sebaceous gland enlargement? a)scleral buckle b)blepharochalasis c)chalazion d)cataract e)steatoma

Answer: Steatoma. A chalazion is a blocked meibomian gland, not a sebaceous gland enlargement. Steatomas can occur anywhere. They often occur on the eyelids. Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary actually lists chalazion as a synonym for steatoma (of the eyelid), calling it analogous to an enlarged sebaceous gland. Because chalazion is specifically found on the meibomian glands of the eyelid, the answer is probably chalazion.
