Veneers
A covering applied to the tooth made from porcelain to improve the tooth's appearance
Question: veneers????? im getting veneers, are they gonna hurtt or what should i expectt
Answer: Veneers look like real teeth, they also perform like real teeth. Veeners dont hurt because what they do is the grind down the sides and front side of the tooth theyre going to do the veneer on and then they make you a temporary, two weeks later you come back and the permantly glue them onto your old tooth, theyre made of pure porcelin so it matches absolutely great with your other teeth color. You should also expect to smile after you get your veeners on because they look so great, no matter who or what kind of mouth they put them in, you will love them. ive seen many patients get them and they were all extremely satisfied, theyre also long lasting, no one, unless a dentist looks directly in your mouth, will know that theyre not your real teeth.
Question: Veneers...? Has anyone gotten veneers? I am thinking about getting them for my front teeth. How much do these range? And are you satisfied? Please give me your feed back before I spend my money..
Answer: I have 9 Da Vinci veneers and they were $900 each four years ago. I have never had an issue. Love them.
Question: What is the difference between veneers and lumineers? Are they the same thing? And I know the chances of my insurance company covering for it is very low since it will be done only for cosmetic procedures. But does anyone have any ways to at least increase the chances of the dental insurance paying for my veneers or lumineers?
Thanks!
Answer: Lumineers are brand name veneers which are made by a specific company (Den Mat). They are advertised as relatively thin veneers so that you won't have to trim down your teeth to make room for them. Other labs can also make thin veneers but Den Mat is the one company that had spent a lot of money advertising its brand.
Insurance companies can pay for them if they can be justified in strengthening your teeth. If your teeth don't have a lot of fillings, insurance companies will conclude that the veneers are cosmetic.
Question: How long does it take to recover from having your permanent veneers put on? I've already had my temporary veneers done, and they are putting in my real ones on thursday. I've heard it takes longer to recover, and that you can be more swollen having your permanent veneers in vs. your temporary. Other than my speech pattern causing a lisp, which is fine now, I was ok to go back to work with two days off. I work as a waitress, so talking at work is paramount. Any suggestions or experience you could share from those who have veneers?
Answer: There should be no recovery period as far as soreness, swelling, or pain. The bonding of the veneers is a very non traumatic experience, less than the first appointment. Good luck with them. I hope they look great.
Question: Is it possible to take porcelain veneers off the teeth without leaving any damage? I am thinking to get veneers to brighten my smile. I think the result would be maximum. But, I am wondering if someday I have to take them off.
Answer: Usually veneers require some prep-work--meaning, the dentist drills on the face of your teeth. This gives the veneers extra room and retention,, so, no, you wouldn't want to get that kind off. Some people, not everyone, are candidates for a new kind of veneer that can be placed right on your teeth called Lumineers. Check out the website, but your dentist would have to decide, and only go to a dentist that has done lots of them, and you like what you see.
Question: How hard is it to paint the veneers on particle board cabinets? I'd like to paint the yucky wood looking veneers white?
I was indeed thinking of removing the doors and hardware...but the veneers are definitely, like, stick on formica or something similar. How much would it cost to get someone to paint them for me? Any ideas?
Answer: Start by cleaning all the grease off the cabinet/doors with a really good kitchen de-greaser. Then sand all the surfaces that you want to paint with a 220 grit sandpaper to give the paint something to hold onto. Prime the surfaces with a high quality primer, something like KILZ and then paint with a satin or semigloss paint.
Have fun on your 2 weekend project.
Question: What is the best way to refinish (veneers, new doors, and drawer fronts) kitchen cabinets? We have laminate cabinets and want to refinish with veneers, new doors, and drawer fronts. Any suggestions and/or resources?
Answer: If you don't have the tools and a shop, you might consider just going with all new cabinetry. I couldn't imagine trying to clamp up new veneers with even pressure on the surfaces while the cabinets were/are still in place, not to mention the stripping of old veneers and finish. And what type of veneer are you going to put back on? Wood? Laminate? Are your cabinets plywood or particle board? If they are particle board you can just throw them away, because trying to take the old laminate off of them will just destroy the particle board, and you don't want particle board cabs anyway If money is an issue, try saving the cabs, and get all new paint-grade doors and drawer fronts and paint them, they wil cost a lot less. Will your drawers or doors have any detail, or wil they be flat all around? I might be able to give more advice, but I would need to know more about existing cabs, and what type of doors/drawers you intend to put on. Email me if you want.

Question: How long do you keep temporary veneers on? I am getting porcelain veneers and am getting temporary veneers on before. I have to keep these temporary ones on for a month. Is this a normal time frame? It seems very long.
Answer: It seems a bit long, usually about a week- 10 days or so
Question: How much should it cost to get to veneers on my front teeth? I'd like to know the approximate cost of getting veneers on my front two teeth. Anyone who has had this done before would really help me out. Also, do you like them if you've had it done? Thanks a lot.
Actually, my front two teeth are misalligned (one to the front, one two the back) I know that this can be a quick, easy way to fix minor imperfections such as this. I am not a huge fan of hard foods, and I really do think it is needed because of the major lack of self esteem it gives me. I am willing to pay out of pocket, the cheaper the better. If there are other options, please list them.
Thanks so much for your answers!
Answer: Mmmm well it depends on where you go to have your veneers placed. They can cost as much as a crown which can run from $650 to $1000 a tooth. You need to be careful when you have veneers done because they are fabricated from porcelain which is a fragile material and chips and fracture easily. First I would check around for prices since it is a cosmetic procedure most insurance companies will not pay for this service. Second I would decide is this really necessary. They aren't meant for people who like to eat a lot of hard foods such as ice cubes, carrots, corn on the cob(I know corn isn't hard)apples, sugar daddy's(they are infamous for pulling veneers and crowns right off the tooth)! All of this foods you use your front teeth to bite off with. I'm a Dental Hygienist/Assistant and I have seen people throw good money away on veneers just because they don't like that their front teeth don't look pearly white anymore. They come back in a year or so and have a crack in the veneer. Once you have them you will always have to have them. They shave your natural tooth down just slightly but after the veneer is cemented on the tooth it will never look the same as it did prior. I would seriously think about having this done. If you have a couple grand to blow then go for it. Other wise it's only cosmetic and doesn't improve the strength of the tooth.
Question: What is the best way to bond veneers to the tooth? I'm not!, well maybe I am, questioning my dentists professionalism. What it is, I've had 4 veneers and 2 crowns fitted in the last week, and already 2 veneers has fallen off, let it be due to my bite, bonding, or drinking cups of Marks & Spencer coffee, I don't know, but I don't think she should be using dental cement. I've heard about a dental superglue?
Answer: Properly bonded veneers are ready to go the minute you leave the office. There is no waiting time for drinking or eating. The main reason crowns and veneers come off so soon is that the tooth was contaminated with moisture when the cement was placed on it. Another reason is the cement was not cured properly or the cement was expired (old). If the bite is the problem, the veneer would usually break not just come off. Your dentist should not charge you to replace these veneers. But you also want to make sure that if these come off again, say in 6 months that he is not going to charge you again. I hope that you didn't go to him because he is the cheapest. You get what you pay for especially in dentistry.
Question: How much would it cost for porcelain veneers done on your visible teeth on average? I'd like to get Veneers done for my fiancee before our wedding and would like to get her visible smiling teeth done as a surprise. I have no idea how much it would cost (though I expect it to be high). Does anyone know what the cost would be? I am out in PA. I also have dental insurance through metlife but not sure if it would extend to veneers or not.
Answer: Most insurance companies will not cover cosmetic dental work...the price will vary, starting from $350.00...I am in Texas and this is what it cost me per crown....the cost should be less if they are veneers which are applied to the front of your existing teeth...they are different procedures...it all depends on what kind of work you need done. If however, your teeth need repair and your dentist determines that it is more than cosmetic (will need X-rays), the insurance company will cover as per plan guidelines.
Question: What is the difference between Porcelain veneers and Lava veneers? Someone I know just got veneers put on their teeth. They asked for Porcelain veneers but the dentist put Lava veneers in their mouth. Is there a difference? If so, what is it?
Answer: Lava veneers are a porcelain veneer, but it's suppose to be a stronger type of porcelain.
Question: What are veneers, and are they harmful to your teeth? I saw on extreme makeover, where they took the caps off of a woman's front teeth and for some reason her teeth had been eaten away behind the caps! It looked really gross. Wouldn't veneers do the same to you teeth? What are the differences between caps and veneers?
What if you decided you didn't want them anymore?
Answer: They file down your teeth to about half when putting on veneers from what I have seen.
Question: How much will it cost to get six porcelain dental veneers? I live in Dallas Texas. I would like to know how much is the average cost to get six porcelain dental veneers?
Answer: It depends on where you are and the dentist's general perception of fees. You can expect porcelain veneers to cost from about $700-to-$1,000 each in most offices. Some are a little less and some are a lot more.
A good average in the US for 6 veneers would be $4-6,000.
Question: Porcelain veneers what procedure do I need to go through to get them? How do I get them? Do I need to contact my dentist? I had an appointment with my dentist about 4 months ago and he said come back in a year but am not happy with my teeth I want to get porcelain veneers. Do I need to contact them?
Answer: Yes you book an appointment, You are suppose to visit your dentist at least every 6 months btw.
1. The first part of any dental procedure is the initial consultation and examination so that the dentist can get a feel for what you want and understand your needs and concerns. The dentist should explain the treatment procedure to you including an accurate guide to the likely costs of your treatment.
2. Before your veneers are designed your dentist will need to reshape and prepare the front surfaces of your teeth so that they can accomadate the veneers. The first stage is to numb the teeth and gums with a local anaesthic so that you do not feel anything during the procedure.
3. Using a special tool called a burr (a dental drill or file) a tiny amount of the front surface of your teeth will be shaved off. The amount removed should be equivalent to the thickness of the veneer that will sit over the top of the tooth.
4. Next an impression or mould (copy) of your teeth is taken. A special dental "putty" is placed into your mouth on a tray and pushed into your teeth so that it takes an imprint of your teeth, similar to how you would leave a footprint in sand.
5. This "impression" or mould of your teeth is then sent to a dental laboratory. The laboratory use the impression to cast an accurate model of your teeth which is used as a guide to fabricate your new veneers, this process can tae between one to three weeks.
6. whilst you are waiting for your veneers to be fabricated your dentist you may be fitted with some temporary veneers to protect your prepared teeth. Not all dentists will offer temporary veneers.
7. On your second appointment your dentist will fit your new veneers to your teeth. First the dentst may just sit the teeth over your teeth to see how they look with your smile and he or she may need to trim or adjust the veneer.
8. Next your teeth will be throughly cleaned and the front surfaces etched (roughened) with a special acid gel so that they provide a good surface for the dental cement to stick to.
9. The veneers are then cemented into place and a special curing light is used to activate the dental cement so that it permanenetly bonds the veneer to the front surface of your prepared tooth. If there is any excess cement it is usually trimmed away and polished to leave a beautiful and natural looking restoration.
Question: How long does it take to apply veneers? I want to get six top veneers. How many hours should i expect to be in the dentist chair?
Answer: I am a dentist and six upper veneers should take about an hour or less to prep and then you should be out the door within 2 hours. However it depends on the speed and skill of the dentist. Some dentists do take longer than others. If they are lumineers then no prep needed just cementation. If regular veneers then you will wear temp veneers for 3-4 weeks and then come back to have the permanent ones cemented.
Question: What condition does your teeth need to be in, in order to get veneers? i want to get veneers over my front top 6 teeth. one is chipped, and the others might have cavities but there are no visible holes (just the chipped one, and it is rotting eww). now should i get fillings first, then veneers? does it even matter? and does it matter if i have a cavity on my back molar? or could i get veneers, then get a filling for my back molar later? thanks!
Answer: they usually drill your teeth and shave em down to fit the veneers. they'll probably just get rid of any cavities or disease or problems you have first
