Question: Can you get a varicose vein on the inside of your hand? I have been having alot of pain on the inside of my right hand under my thumb. When I use my hand to much to do anything as simple as gripping a stirring wheel I will get cramping in my hand and thumb, and this vein will stick out. You can actually see my pulse beat through it. It is on the same side that I have Rsd in my right leg, but I am wondering if it could be a varicose vein?
Answer: This answer is put into layman's terms.
If you can truly see your pulse in the vessel then it is not a varicose vein. Blood veins carry blood back to the heart and arteries carry blood away from the heart. Artery walls contain muscle whereas veins do not (with some exceptions) hence the pulse that can be seen/felt at arterial sites.
It is possible but not common to get varicose veins at any point in the body but they should not be pulsing because they are not arteries. Varicose veins are veins in which the valves have become incompetent and can no longer support the flow of blood back to the heart. The vessel walls then become incompetent and they discolour due to the clotted or pooled blood within them.
It is most likely that your problem is a bruised artery (through trauma), a minor clot in the artery, or some form of damage to the surrounding soft tissue which is exerting pressure on the artery. If the problem is significant, you should see a vascular surgeon (specialist) as soon as possible.
Question: What to do when a varicose vein in the leg ruptures consecutively 4 times? My mom has varicose veins and recently one of them ruptured, after the first time it has ruptured 3 more times. She started to take antibiotics today because is kind of red around it.
Answer: A varicose vein will not go away until her doctor either removes the offending vein in a surgical procedure with multiple incisions, or injects it with a substance that plugs it up. Between 33 and 45 percent of those who have the injections will need them repeated, doctors say, while surgical complications such as scars and nerve injury occur in 5 to 20 percent. But no matter which procedure she chooses, her body will rechannel blood through other vessels.
Question: How can I rid my varicose vein? I have one vein which has been varicose since I was 10. After having had 4 children it has deteriorated to the point I would like to get rid of it now. BUT I dont want to have to spend tme in hospital, or have a general anaesthetic to have it stripped. What are my other options? And what prices am I looking at for having this done privately?
Answer: try webmd.com or familydoctor.org
Question: What would a leg look like after varicose vein removal? I have superficial varicose veins (not painful, not dangerous, just unsightly) in one leg. I know they can be "stripped" but what would my leg look like afterwards?
Answer: a leg.

Many doctors recommend wearing the bandage for at least a couple of weeks, but different doctors recommend different things. If you had big varicose veins, you may need to wear the bandage for longer. In one study, people with veins that were wider than 3 millimetres (about one-eighth of an inch) wore their bandage for three weeks.
You can walk around after having injections, but it's best to avoid doing anything strenuous like jogging or aerobics for the first day or two.
Most doctors advise you to remain as active as you can while wearing the bandages or stockings,
It is inadvisable to fly long distance for a few weeks after any venous treatment due to the inherent risk of DVT. Most doctors accept short haul flights within Europe.
Check with the doctor that did the injections.
Question: i think i may have a varicose vein on my testicle? i was doing a self-check and could feel like a thin vein-like thing on one of my testicles, i could feel soething similar on teh other, but it wasnt as prominent. is it a varicose vein?
Answer: Yeah, it's called a varicocele. They are quite common and can occur on one or both testicles. I have them on both. They swell up sometimes and almost disappear others. Sometimes they ache. They can affect fertility but are not always a problem. You can get them surgically reduced but that's only necessary if they are causing problems. You need to get a doctor to confirm this diagnosis though and to tell you if they think surgery is necessary.
Question: If you get hit in the varicose vein, what happens? If you get hit in the varicose vein and a big bump forms, what happens? What should you do?
Answer: The varicose vein can rupture. When it does, it bleeds VERY BADLY---and it is VERY HARD to control the bleeding. We usually have to apply pressure dressings, and start IV's due to the amount of blood loss.
BUT, if you got hit, and a big bump formed, and then that was it, I would keep an eye on it. the bump should go down eventually. IF the bump keeps growing....go to the ER (like if it is happening fast the same day---and it is huge). Other wise, if it never reabsorbed, go to your doctor....you dont want to throw a clot from there.
Question: Varicose vein is hot to the touch and sore, could it be a blood clot and how serious? My 75 year old mother woke up this morning complaining of a sore spot on her leg that hurts and is hot to the touch. The spot is on/within one of many existing varicose veins on her right calf. I've been searching for symptoms to decide if we should be concerned enough to bring her to the ER or if it can wait until her doctor can see her on Monday but I'm finding conflicting results.
Thoughts? Comments? Opinions? Same experience? Treatment at home?
Answer: A hot sensation and soreness can easily mean some sort of infection, and this could be associated with a clot. Take her to the doctor as soon as you can make an appointment. If the pain gets any worse, call 911 and have her taken to the ER.
Question: Can a swollen or varicose vein in penis turn into future problems? I have a swollen vein in the sulcus ( the area behind rim of the head) that looks like a small round ball when I'm soft and becomes bigger and flatter when hard. Now, could it become a problem in the future? Could it rupture and leak blood if too much pressure is applied? What could I do to reduce it size or get rid of it?
Thanks
Answer: I take it your not circumsiced? It shouldn't be a problem, but if it does someday, it's easy to treat. Also, by the time it is a problem, you'll feel more comfortable talking to your doctor!
Question: Would this be a varicose vein or a blood clot?Which is more painful? Is a blood clot always deep in the limb, and a varicose vein either towards just under the skin or deeper inward?
Answer: They are different. Veins have valves that help the blood fight gravity. The blood flow through a vein is weaker than through an artery so when the blood flows through the vein a valve closes behind it so the blood can make it's way back to the heart. Varicose veins occur when the valve in the vein becomes weak and blood pools in that area of the vein.
A is blood clot is a mass of blood cells and blood components that form to stop the bleeding that occurs when a blood vessel is injured. When a blood vessel is broken, platelets in the blood become sticky and clump together at the site of the injury. They begin to form a mass to stop the flow of blood.
There may be no obvious symptoms of a blood clot. When symptoms do occur, they often appear suddenly, and point to the location of the clot. Extreme dizziness that occurs without warning can indicate a clot in a cerebral artery. Sudden complete or partial blindness in one eye could indicate a clot within the retinal artery. A hard blue bulge in a vein, or unexpected pain in an arm or leg, along with numbness, weakness, or another sign that blood is not reaching the area, could indicate a blood clot. Blisters or ulcers on the skin may occur as well. A clot in an artery near a major organ like the heart or lung will produce pain or decreased activity in that organ. Gangrene (death of tissue) may occur if blood flow to a region is blocked for an extended period of time.
I'd have to say a blood clot is definitly more painful and dangerous than a varicose vein.

Question: Anyone know anyone who had varicose vein treatment? I'm so depressed. I'm almost 23 and I just saw my varicose veins getting worse. I haven't had kids yet and I'm at a healthy weight, but I'm doomed by genetics. I feel so ugly. I never really see other people's veins too much, but I'm wondering if they just cover up their legs year-round and at the beach?
Answer: I end up with very painful and visible varicose veins in my leg when i'm pregnant. This is my 6th pregnancy and the pain in my right leg/knee was so extreme that I had to find some kind of solution. If you have red or hot spots on your leg then you should probably go see a doctor to rule out blood clots. If not, then you can treat varicose veins naturally. Support stocking (about $80) are supposed to help but they obviously won't cure the problem. I was fortunate to find an herb Butcher's Broom and I noticed improvement in my pain level within about an hour of taking the supplement! It has been about 2 1/2 weeks now that I have been using it and my veins are healing! The ugly spider veins and huge bulging blue veins are disappearing! I do not have ANY pain in my leg or knee unless I miss taking the herb. I purchased a product called Sanhelios Circu Caps Higher Dose. My doctor says it is safe for me during pregnancy. I have read that you need to be careful with it if your blood pressure is elevated though.
Question: Do i have a varicose vein in my mouth? I have a swelling that feels like a vein. It's really sore. I think it might have been caused by abrasion from a broken tooth but it's not right next to the tooth. It's on the inside of my cheek. I've booked an appointment with my GP but it's five days away.
Answer: No your mouth does not have varicose veins. It maybe a wisdom tooth coming through. You should book a appointment with a dentist instead of a gp[they will tell you to go the dentist anyway].
Question: Thinking about getting a varicose vein taken out of my leg. How much would it cost? Would it be better to go on a waiting list at the local hospital instead?
Answer: How much are you willing to pay for the relief? How much is the local hospital charging? Pay it, its worth it.
Question: How will you lose a varicose vein? My mother has it in her legs and it is somewhat bulged. What are the risks of having it? How will she lose it without having an injection or operation?
Answer: operations remove them. they are hereditary.
Question: If you accidentally puncture a varicose vein in your left leg will keeping pressure on it stop the bleeding? The puncture is on the left side of the upper left leg . Right above the knee area.
Answer: all bleeding stops, eventually. Yes, if you apply pressure to the puncture for at least ten minutes, it should stop bleeding, then be sure to cover with a dressing and keep it covered until it heals completely.
Question: varicose vein and cyst found in scrotum? My husband just found out today that his pain is caused by a varicose vein above his left testicle and they also found a cyst. We had a daughter 6 months ago so do you think he isn't infertile or could he be infertile just the last few months maybe? Also, what are the chances of the cyst being cancerous? Also, he had a varicose vein removed out of his left leg 2 years ago... could that have anything to do with having another one?
Thanks.
Answer: The surgery for the varicose veins are done only after ruling out all the dangerous causes causing this condition... So since he has underwent a surgery means that it was just a varicose vein and nothing else... U should be relieved of this... Secondly regarding his present condition... The varicose veins above the testis is called as Varicocele, It is common in tall thin individuals and Most commonly occurs on the Left side... Most often its idiopathic, but rarely it can be due to a serious cause inside abdomen, Which i don't want to name it here (It just increases ur Anxiety). but i'm sure that they would have ruled it out by now...
regarding the cyst, these cysts which occur in in the scrotum are usually epididymal cysts and they are most often benign and can rarely be malignant.. If removed, it s successfully treated...
Regarding Fertility, There is nothing to worry, Varicocele is indicated as one of the causes of infertility. But its actually doubtful.. He is not probably infertile... Since u have borne a Daughter just 6 months back, and u will be breast feeding, this will be preventing u from becoming Pregnant.. its probably not because of him...
regarding the last question, answer is YES, tall stature, thin stature, Long hours of working in Standing position are the Predisposing factors of both Varicocele and the Varicose veins in the legs...
Question: Why would a varicose vein on my left lower leg suddenly burst ? There was no cut or scrape of the skin. Also uncontrollable bleeding.
Answer: That is so disgusting -- just flat out NASTY.
Question: how do i get rid of my varicose vein without surgery? im only 17 and i hav a huge vein on my leg, i play lots of sports so i dont know why! how do i get it to go away??!!
Answer: I'm sorry to tell you but, you can't make them go away. The only way to get rid of it is to get it taken out. I've tried everything there is out there and I found new stuff myself and tried it and nothing nothing nothing works. So, I finally went to a vein clinic and had it taken out and it really was no big deal at all. You can walk the next day and do your normal things. But, if you do get it taken out you would probably have to take a few weeks off of rough sports. I'm so sorry you have that though. I totally know what it feels like but, it is sooooo worth it to get it gone!!! Hope my answer isn't too long and ((hugs)) to you!!!!
Oh and also, to help with circulation and to help your legs feel better take horse chestnut with grape seed and butcher's broom. (very good herbs!!)
Additional details: I agree with Carmen, it totally sucks to be self-conscience in shorts and skirts because of a bad vein. I got a phlebectomy, which is like, the newest thing they've come up with for varicose veins and it leaves no scarring or anything. I can wear shorts and skirts now without feeling bad. It is very worth it!!!
