Answer: I had otoplasty in March and it was the best thing I have ever done. I am so much more confident now. Honestly, the pain wasn't bad at all. The bandage was just very annoying. If you want it done, do it and I promise you will feel great.
Question: How long after an Otoplasty can I begin lifting weights again? This coming Thanksgiving I will be having Otoplasty plastic surgery. I bodybuild 5 days a week so this would be a big hit to my performance. I was hoping to get back on within a week. What are my chances? And if I can't, why not?

Question: How can Insurance cover Otoplasty surgery? I'm fifteen, and my mom told me that i can't get otoplasty for a little while, because it's out of the budget for us since my brother is going to college next year. Is there any way at all that insurance could cover this surgery? Even partial coverage would be good. The only thing that I thought would work is my parents have been telling me over the past year that my hearing is getting increasingly worse, and i thought maybe the otoplasty would be able to prevent further damage? Please help Thanks!
Answer: Try this one - http://healthplans.my-age.net - my family have their health insurance - it is affordable and has good coverage for dental issues.

Question: is there is a non surgical otoplasty or to correct your prominent ears ? is there is a non surgical otoplasty or to correct your prominent ears ? i appriciate any answer. :)
Answer: DUCT TAPE!
Just kidding. In truth, no, there is no non-surgical way. If there were an easier way, then I'd have done that rather than the real surgery :)
You're still thinking about this? Have you gone to any consultations with surgeons yet?
Really the worst parts are getting the stitches out, and that the incisions can be visible for up to 3 months... but you've already got tons of information from me on otoplasty from you're other questions lol.
If you don't want to do it, then don't do it. Otherwise, normal otoplastly surgery is the only way. Just realize how long 3 months for total recovery is.
Question: Where are incisions made during an Otoplasty? Otoplasty, ear surgery.
I got my ears pinned back surgically years ago, so i can't talk to my doctor now because i'd have to book months in advance just to talk.
I was just wondering, did i have stitches and such BEHIND my ear, or did he only enter through the front?
What do they usually do?
I'm just wondering if i would be able to get a Conch ear piercing.
I don't want to interfere with the work he might have done behind my ear.
Help?
Answer: A friend of mine had her ears done also. Her stitches were behind her ear. Sometimes they even take out a thin sliver of cartilage. As far as the conch piercing, I would think the only thing that might interfere with it is if the piercing goes through some scar tissue from your otoplasty. Scar tissue when irritated sometimes starts to grow and you end up with a keloid. Go in and talk to the piercer, let them look at your ears and take a look at where the piercing would go. I've had my conch done for about 10 years now.
Question: How much does incisionless otoplasty cost? and what is it like? How much does incisionless otoplasty cost? and what is it like?
There are two types open and incisionless
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otoplasty)
The incisionless is for ears that don't stick out that badly (that's what i've got). From what I can understand it involves inserting tiny stitches in the ear reposition it, as opposed to cutting the ear open and molding it that way.
Answer: Dr. Fritsch from Indiana University pioneered incisionless otoplasty. I believe that it can only set back the antihelix (top part of ear), although he may be able to do other setbacks. Type in his name and you will find out more information. I think you can contact him through email.
Question: what to do after otoplasty and rhinoplasty? hello, i have recently had otoplasty and rhinoplasty. I have had my stitches and bandages removed. does anyone know if i will be able to sleep on my side once the stitches and bandages are removed? can i do normal things like wash my hair straight after? would really be grateful for any help.
Answer: Ask your doctor.

Question: Is it natural to have sharp pains above your ear after an Otoplasty? I just had one last Thursday, the bandages came off 2 days ago. I am very pleased with the results but now whenever I do anything involving moving my head, I have a sharp pain above my left ear. Is this natural? Will this go away?
Answer: otoplasty by definition is the removal of tissue or the repositioning of ear tissue...yes, there will be pain, yes it will hurt, yes it will get better with healing...talk to your surgeon, hopefully an ent or plastic, they will be able to predict when the pain should abate, ask for meds if you need them...
Question: What is the average cost of otoplasty in Australia? Including all costs, anesthetist, etc. Also, is it worth having it done?
Answer: Sorry I have no idea what the average cost is, but I would personally highly recommend having it done. I had it done about a month ago and although it did hurt all the pain I went through was COMPLETELY worth it! I have no regrets at all about it.
You can't even see the scaring, all I have to do now is where a bandage when I go to sleep. It's boosted my confidence by miles as well.
Good luck(:
Question: How many days after otoplasty can you return to work? When can the bandages come off to return to work?
Answer: It can take up to six weeks but adults can generally return to their normal routine after a few days.

Question: How to ask parents that I want ear reduction surgery(otoplasty)? My parents have the money and I am sure they would met, but I dont know how to ask them. I never feel comfortable asking my parents things like surgery etc... I really wanted this surgery as I am concious of my ears. I am hoping to have the surgery during christmas breaks so It can heal over the break. Please help me! This surgery will change my life.
Answer: My cousin had ear surgery because he was concious of his ears and was made fun of, what could those people say when he got the ear surgery? ' haha look at his.. beautiful ears ' lol
It is important that you love yourself for who you are, but if you are really feeling uncomfortable with your ears, and there is a possibility to change that then go for it. There isn't much I can think of that will go wrong, the procedure isn't very complicated.
Your ears will hurt after the surgery, and you shouldn't let anyone touch them.
>> What you should do is >>
During dinner (if you all sit together at dinner) say ''mom/and or/dad i have been thinking for along time I am very concious about my ears and would like to get surgery for them if thats alright with you''
it can strike them as sudden, so if you want you can first tell them you are concious and tell them if anyone makes fun of you or tell them whenever you are feeling concious and then lead that up to asking for surgery, that way they will understand how much it really means to you.
Don't ever be afraid to ask your parents for help with somehting, because that is what they are there for. To be understanding, helping, and sympathetic. I once had a medical problem i was really really embarrased to tell my mom, even though it was quite common among women. One day whilst on a walk with the dog I told her, mom i have realised (my problem) and im not sure about it. It turned out she knew all about it and was very glad i let her know. Parents will be quite happy to help you, they don't want to see their children suffer.
When ever something is bothering you, just let your parent/s know exactly how you feel and they should understand and know what to do.
Question: Is incisionless otoplasty cheaper than traditional otoplasty? Hi, for a long time I have been interested in otoplasty, although I can not afford it. The other day I came across incisionless otoplasty, invented by Dr. Michael H. Fritsch in the 1990's. By any chance would the cost be lowered for incisionless otoplasty since there are some major differences? Please respond ASAP. I really need to know. Thank you.
Answer: Only if he's using double sided tape to tape your ears to your head.
Question: Is it possible to have local and twilight anestesia only during an otoplasty? Is this an option a doctor with give me instead of having general. Also if its only local and twilight do I have to have a tube down my throat
Answer: You misunderstand the different types of anethetic I think. You can have general anesthesia, without having a tube put down your throat. A local anesthetic would only deaden sensation in the immediate area of your ear- you would still be fully awake. "Twilight" anesthesia usually refers to the use of nitrous oxide to relax you, and is more commonly used in dental procedures when a patient is terrified of the needles or something. Neither is really useful in the procedure you are looking at. General anesthesia in your case would most likely involve giving you medication through an intravenous line, and you would drift off to sleep just as you naturally do. It is a nice deep sleep, during which you don't feel any pain at all, and have no memory of anything that happens. Then the doctor is free to do whatever is needed, without having to worry about giving you pain. Also, local anesthetics are tricky to use on the face, and you might need more anesthetic than would be safe to give. You would not need to have a "tube" down your throat at all, unless there were problems with breathing that occured. In that case, you might need to be intubated, but that is generally removed before you wake up in recovery. You would not wake up with a tube in your throat at all. And even if it did become necessary, chances are good you would never realize it was even done at all. I work in post op recovery, and I've seen that happen before. At any rate, you will discuss all of the procedure with the surgeon and anesthesiologist before the procedure is done. You can certainly bring up your concerns then. But do consider that these are people who are trained to do the job, and know how to do the best job for you- but only if you trust them to do it and let them do it. Don't get yourself all worked up over the anesthesia. Everyone has a bit of fear with that, and honestly it's not that bad. Just trust your doctors know their jobs, and will do their best for you. Lots of folks have surgery every day, and they all discover the fear was a lot worse than the actual procedure. Good luck, and hope you like the new ears.
Question: How Do I Hide Otoplasty Surgery From Family/Friends? I really want to get this surgery done, but I've hid my ears from most of my friends in some way and I don't want them to know something was done to them. As for my family, I expect they'll notice a change, but I don't want there to be proof. How quick/well does the surgery heal? How could I hide this until the healing is done?
Answer: I recently had otoplasty (in March 2008) and I could not be happier. I wear my hair up ALL the time and I never would have before. I always wore my hair down, even on hot summer days and as a dancer, I hated performing only because I have to wear my hair up. If this is something you really want, GO FOR IT! The pain is not bad at all, at least for me it wasn't. You will have to wear a bandage around your head for about once week, this will be very difficult to hide but once the bandage is off, you can wear your hair down until the swelling has gone down, but there usually isn't much. I don't think anyone will notice you have had the surgery done if they have never seen your ears before. That was the case for me at least. Honestly, the only people who could tell were my family and my dance team since they were the only ones who had seen my ears before. Well, I know I rambled a lot but I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. The surgery made me so much more confident and I know it will do the same for you too!
