Micron
One millionth of a meter
Question: what is ½ micron when it is describing jewellry? I have been looking for some earring on the web and the ones I like are described as ½ micron 22 carot hard gold or silver plate. Whatd eos this mean in regard to quality?
Answer: a micron is 1/1000 of a millimeter.
1/2 a micron is a very thin layer of precious metal over cheap base metal. It will wear off quickly.
Higher quality vermeil (gold plated over sterling silver) must have at least 2.5 microns of gold plate on top and even that doesn't last forever.
The quality you describe is costume jewelry, only meant to last a short time. If you want something more durable, you will have to look out for vermeil or gold filled.
Question: How do I get my Micron desktop to get out of Standby? I have an old Micron computer running Windows 98. It's 11 years old. When I try to put it in Standby, it goes to that state, but how do I bring it back? I tried clicking the mouse and pressing different keys on the keyboard, even CTRL+ALT+DEL. I always have to press the Reset button on the CPU to get it back, but is there any other way, or is the computer so old that it doesn't work anymore? It has 64MB of memory. I don't know if it ever worked before.
Answer: First of all standby mode means that the computer saves all the previously used files and settings to the hard drive, and then shuts the computer down, this function is to conserve power. To get out of it turn the computer back on, also if you want to be able to use the computer with out turning it off go into sleep mode.
Question: What hard drive should I buy for an older micron LT notebook? I bought an older (2001) Micron transport LT without the hard drive and adapter. What kind of hard drive should I buy ? My knowledge about computers is limited and would appreciate your help. Thanks
Answer: You should buy IDE notebook hard drive (2.5").
Hope I helped....
Question: If you grind sand to a sub micron particle size, do you then have clay? Will these sub micron particles have the water retention and CEC characteristics or is it just smaller sand?
I have a ball mill for the grinding with 3 kg balls, 50 off.
Answer: It depends on the source sand. Clay is traditionally defined as being composed of very fine particles of phyllosilicates as opposed to tectosilicates. The difference is in the crystal structure where they phyllos are in sheets and the tecto is a 3-dimensional structure.
Quartz is a tectosilicate so it doesn't fit become clay, but sand is typically made up of many different source materials and depending on the composition, it's possible that you could end up with clay if there are enough phyllosilicates in the sand mix.
Ultimately, you need to have a fine grain mix and have it display plasticity through different degrees of water saturation.
Question: What magnification would you need on an optical microscope to see a 5 micron diameter bubble? What magnification would you need on an optical microscope to see a 5 micron diameter bubble?
Answer: To see it with any detail, you'd want on the order of 1000X, giving an apparent diameter of 5 mm at the usually assumed image-plane distance of 25 cm.
Question: Can you use the Alesis Micron to control midi? I'm getting this synth soon, and I have Ableton Live right now but all I have to control the instruments in it is my computer keyboard which sucks :(. Could I use the micron as a line in to control them?
Answer: Yes you can, good luck :-)
Question: Is it normal for a Gateway computer to have Micron memory? My computer has been running horribly slow so my husband gave me his memory from the computer he doesn't use any more. I put in his 120 meg Kingston and looked at my old one and it was a 32 meg Micron memory card. Why would Gateway use Micron?
Answer: different firms use different component suppliers and you still only have 128 mbmost pcs these days have at least 2 gb
Question: How many darcy is equivalent to 1 micron? How many millidarcy is equal to 1 micron?
Answer: " Converted to SI units, 1 darcy is equivalent to 9.869233×10−13 m² or 0.9869233 µm² "
So, 1 µm² = 1.01325 darcy.
Question: Where can I buy Micron / other precision ink pens in bulk? I find myself using the 25mm size Micron pens quite often, not using the larger sizes. Since Micron pens are pretty expensive, and buying regular packs won't help (I don't use the thicker ones), is it possible to buy boxes of only the 25mm size Microns? And where should I look for them? Thanks!
Answer: http://www.dickblick.com/products/sakura-pigma-micron-pen/
I usually buy all my materials either online or in store from Blick. Mostly everything is offered at a discount price, especially for bulk items.
Question: what laser will I require to cut a 10 micron plastic sheet? what power rating will I need to cut a 10-50 micron plastic sheet ie., a very thin extruded sheet?
Answer: You could use a 1000 watt laser and increase the processing speed (how fast the laser cuts the material) until you get the desired cut.
Question: What is the correct procedure to install audio drivers in my Micron Transport ZX laptop with Windows 2000 OS? I had to reload Windows 2000 OS on my Micron Transport ZX, and need to know the step by step procedure to ensure that the audio driver will function properly. Thanks

Question: What does micron electroplated 18k gold coloured - then lacquered mean in simpiler words? I am thinking of buying this necklace and the description says this, some of the words may be from the united kingdom.
Answer: The gold layer is one micron thick...the thinnest it can be.
Then lacquer protects the micron thick layer so it doesn't rub off.
Question: Do Pigma Micron pens work on ceramic dishes? I have a bunch of blank white plates I would like to draw some designs onto for decorative purposes. Which means they won't be put into the dishwasher or used at the dinner table. I prefer the control and precision of a pigma micron fine point over a brush, plus I don't want to create a mess with the paint.
Would the ink be suitable for this?
Answer: I suggest testing the pens out on one of the plates. This will let you see if the ink bleeds at all or if the colors come out correctly.
Question: How do i record from my Alesis Micron to my computer with a midi to usb cable? i just bought a midi to usb cable and i'm running it through acid pro 6. The problem is that when i try and play stuff, it comes out on the computer sounding like a regular old midi keyboard. What i'm trying to do is record all the setups and rhythms i've made on my alesis though. Any advice is greatly appreciated
Answer: I think that you should record the audio output of the Micron, not the midi instructions. The midi instructions will only play the same sound if you have all the patches, sequences, etc inside your computer which you don't.
Look for the stereo audio output on the Micron and plug it to the stereo input of your computer's sound card, that should do the job.
Question: What should I use to remove Sakura Micron black ink from skin and fabric? My inking pen exploded on me and I still have dark grey spots on my hands. I've used soap and water, and it's faded to a pale grey, but what should I use next time, or now to fully remove the stain? Tips and references for cleaning skin and common fabrics both appreciated. Thanks!
Answer: Rubbing alcohol for your skin-or hairspray if you don't have rubbing alcohol.
Put layers of paper towel (or just a white towel) under the garment and blot with alcohol until the ink fades. I wouldn't use hair spray on the clothing because of the other hairspray components. Launder as usual once stain is gone.
Question: How do you remove the baffle from a Micron delta + exhaust? Been bugging me for ages, got it second hand so no info on how to remove the baffle. Dont really want to ride with it out as its illegal, just hate the fact i dont know how to do it!
Answer: Normally the baffle on these dual purpose exhausts pulls out of the back of the exhaust.
If the exhaust is fitted to the bike look underneath the end of the exhaust (the bit where the exhaust fumes come from). There should be a single bolt (usually with an allen head) that need to be removed.
Once that bolt is out the baffle can be pulled out the end of the exhaust (its the inner pipe & should come out with a bit of a wiggle) Don't forget when it's out it isn't street legal so be careful if you live in an area where the police are likely to stop you. Have fun!
Question: what's the difference between 5 and 30 micron Aluminum Powder? I'm buying some aluminum powder to make thermite and i'm wondering which is better for this and also what the difference between the two is?
Answer: One is a more finely ground powder. The finer stuff works better if you're making rocket propellant as when you compact it, it will compress better.

Question: What is the difference between Micron and Grammage? when determining the thickness of paper or card.
I don't suppose there is a formula for coverting between the two?
sorry bad spelling -- converting !!
Answer: Traditionally in the paper trade grams per square metre g/m2 (sorry haven't found out how to put symbols in here should be a small high 2) was used for paper and microns (thickness) for card. The dividing line was 160g/m2 or 200microns.
When photocopiers and other office printers started to be introduced the manufacturers quoted all paper tolerances by weight and this is starting to become the norm.
It is quite a good idea but thickness will vary between papers of the same weight because of different substances used to make different grades. For instance glossy art papers are made using china clay which is heavier than paper pulp. There is therefore no way to convert one measurement to the other. Sometimes paper merchants give both measurements but usually not and they are no longer consistent with the paper/card rule.
If there is a specific paper you need to know about try the manufacturer's web site and send an enquiry.
