Question: what is in the lip and does maxilla play a role ? is it collagen? fat? what is inside our lips? and does anyone know the process where our lips get wider? does it have to do anything with the maxilla width?

Question: For a dental intraoral x ray, how do you know if the picture was of patient's left or right maxilla? Apparently there is some kind of "dot" on the film that supposed to orient you and tell you if it's up or down and left or right...Can someone who is a dentist or dental assitant answer this?
Answer: The the bump the dot makes will be facing you, then orient the film the correct way.as for telling if it's left or right, if you are looking at it, if the molars are ending at your right, then that is the patients left side.it's always opposite of what you would think
Question: Why would an impact to the maxilla be more difficult to recover from than a long bone fracture?
Answer: I've cracked my maxilla HUGE crack, the zygomatic was also cracked. My face collided with someone's head playing dodge ball. It took about 3 weeks for the swelling to be completely gone and about another 4 or 5 until there was no pain or tenderness.
I've broke my fibula and radius. My radius was better and cast gone in 6 weeks the fibula was 8 weeks in cast and very sore for a LONG time.
It would depend on what type of fracture and where in the bone it was. A greenstick fracture to the tibia would take FOREVER to recover from and it would be PAINFUL! A crack in the maxilla through the teeth roots would take a long time to recover from.
Your question is rather based on a falsity.
Question: The joint between the maxilla and the zygomatic bone in an adult is a synostosis? A) TRUE

Question: how does the maxilla grow? i know how the maxilla grows wider
i know how the mandible grows wider/forward
i can't find out how the maxilla grows out forward. is it from the back?
Answer: Actually, more and more teeth keep on erupting in the back. As a result, maxilla gets pushed forward through the growth in the back.
Question: What does the maxilla make up? What exactly are the boundaries of the maxilla, what do they form?
Also, if anyone knows the answer to this, do they touch the zygomatics (cheek bones?)
Answer: They do touch the zygomatic bones. They also comprise the lower portion of the nasal cavity, the infraorbital sinuses (also called maxillary sinuses) and the "roof" of the mouth, including the alveolar bone that holds the upper teeth in place.

Question: when does the mandible and maxilla stop growing (width wise)? i am 5 days away from being 17. my bottom wisdom teeth are impacted, they were hurting a couple of days ago and now they stopped. doctors said no signs of top wisdom teeth.
when does the mandible and maxilla officially stop growing?
Answer: Hello...
The bones i your skull are fully grown now...hopefully your teeth will stop erupting!
Many people will find their wisdom teeth get impacted, but then stop erupting, while others find they keep trying to erupt.
Internet sights say that wisdom teeth come through between 17 and 21, but it is not that unusual for wisdom teeth to erupt at 25.
Wisdom teeth often have a bad habit of starting to erupt, then stopping for 6 months, then starting again...and so on.
Hope this helps...
Question: Any orthodontists here? How to make maxilla, upper jaw, smaller? Is there a way that doesn't involve surgery? Like a braces-type mechanism, but for the maxilla instead of the teeth?
My teeth are fine from braces, but I noticed that my maxilla protrudes, so that my upper gums are mostly whitish-pink, leading to poor lip seal, protruding and large upper lip, and a gummy smile.
I'm 18 years old
Answer: if your teeth stick foward too much and there isn't enough room (gaps between your teeth) to move them back, then you might have to have a couple of teeth taken out to make room to do that.
Question: My upper jaw (maxilla) is higher than normal...? And this is negatively affecting my smile. When I open my mouth a little my teeth don't show at all. My lips are also curved weirdly which exacerbates the issue. IS there anything that can correct this? I want to smile more, but can't because of this facial constraint.
Answer: You will have to consult a maxillofacila surgeon and think of an orthognathic surgery.

When, EXACTLY is the end of puberty for males? 17 years? 20 years? Or is it marked by some physical development (facial hair, pubic hair, sperm development, etc.)?
Answer: At about the same time that the rest of the bones in the body stop growing so for males at the end up puberty and when females start their mentrual cycle...
additional info....there is no actual defined time when a male finishes puberty it can be as early as 17 or as late as 22 but it is defined as ending when the male and all of its organs have reached its full size predetermined by our genetic code,

Question: How long do I have to wear surgical brace after jaw operation? I had surgery on both my upper and bottom jaw, including splitting the maxilla. After the operation I have to wear this really uncomfotable brace for positioning my bite and keeping the maxilla stretch. It is really painful and I can't eat much. Can someone tell me what is the minimum time for wearing such brace. I am a healty active person, and my injuries usually heal fast. Thanks.
Answer: I think you have to wear them for 6 weeks. I can't remember. My friend had an operation and had to wear them. She was put on a liquid diet. Try taking some asprin to help sooth the pain. It won't hurt after a while.
Question: what would be the cause of sinus headaches and Discomfort in the maxillae area? If this person recieved a broken nose at a sports event. The nose is healed, but then theres symptoms?
Thanx Jared! :D
Thanx Jared! :D
Answer: possible infection in the sinus cavity, scar tissue from the incident or swelling that has not completely resolved or remodeled around the broken cartilage, possible deviated septum as a result of the injury. All of those are sinus related, but headaches are just as likely to be from a problem in the neck as they are from anything else. Flexion-extension injuries such as whiplash are very common causes of discomfort and headaches like that. Have a good chiropractic examination and see if that could be the root cause of your issues.
