Question: how many women were able to breast feed after having a mammaplasty(breast reduction) done?
Answer: Reduction mammoplasty.

Women can and do breastfeed after a reduction. The chances depend on what type of procedure you get. If you get a Free Nipple Graft, your chances are 50/50. If you do not, they are a lot better at being able to breastfeed.
Question: how painful is it to get mammaplasty? (breast reduction)? I am a 23 year old student, who wants and needs breast reduction surgery BAD!!!!! I wear a size 38 DDD bra, which is really painful and strenuous on my back and shouders. It is also difficult to find clothing and bras and they are very expensive as well. I really want this surgery, however, I am extremely nervous about it. Can anyone explain (without being sarcastic) the entire procedure and also recovery time. How long would I be out of work? And I am in college so, should I wait until the summer or a holiday break? Thanks!
Answer: Check out http://www.breasthealthonline.org as it has an excellent FAQ and support section for you to check out, it helped me out TONS before during and after my reduction from a 38J to a 38C in Feb 2006.
You should wait until you are on a break, and have two weeks off at least. I have a huge surgery story if you want to hear about it, and feel free to ask me any questions, shoot me your email!
I do not regret my surgery. If I had to do it again I would!
A quick info: I was out of work for two weeks, I went back to work and was perfectly fine (desk job). I was in NO PAIN, didn't even need my pain medication prescription. Depending on how well you heal and take pain, you are NOT "Laid back for months"... Healing takes time and patience.
Question: Reduction Mammaplasty? Has anyone had a breast reduction? I'm going to have one soon to relieve the back and shoulder pain, and I'm just wondering what to expect. I'm 22, nonsmoker, so the healing process shouldn't be too bad. Will I be able to breast feed later in life? Risks, benefits?
Answer: I had one Feb 2006 and don't regret it one bit. I'd do it again if I had to.
My story is too long for this answer, if you contact me with your email address I'll send you my story.
Question: Can I put an ice pack on surgical wounds? I just had a reduction mammaplasty (breast reduction surgery) on the fifteenth. Obviously, it's very painful. I've noticed, though, that part of the pain is a burning-type sensation and that the feeling of something cold for even a slight amount of time helps a great deal. I was wondering if it is okay for me to ice it or put an icepack on my chest for short periods of time and, if not, is there anything else I can do?
Answer: It's probably OK, but just be really careful. You don't want to cause an ice burn along the stitch line. If you use ice, make sure to use a washcloth or towel between you & the ice. You probably don't want to use it for longer than 10-15 minutes at a time, either.
It might be a good idea to call the doctor or physician's assistant to double-check, too.
Question: Reduction mammaplasty? Hi all,
Does anyone know what's the surgical cost for breast reduction in Australia and how many cup sizes can be reduced? I realise the cost can vary depending on your circumstances and insurance coverage but would like something a little more specific than $5000-$10,000.
I am 21, female, 175sm tall, 55kg and with 10D pendulous breasts with cause me significant neck, shoulder and back pain as well as much emotion distress. Please help.
I would love to hear from those who have experienced this procedure.
Thanks for reading.
Answer: Hi there, I just found a good sight www.breastreduction.com.au tells you a little more about it. I am 99% sure a breast reduction in Australia is around $8000. I am Aussie and was speaking to someone last night who had it done in 2005 as I am also looking to get the procedure done being a 10E, they can weigh you down! So she got hers done in Brisbane in 2005 and they only cost her $1500 as she got the rest of the cost covered by insurance/medicare. I have just emailed someone asking how does one go about getting insurance (as she couldn't remember whether she got a referral) but I did get a referral a few years back but just didn't go ahead with it, but now I am getting serious about biting the bullet. I also enquired in Sydney in 2007 and the price was around $8500 so there's a pretty acurate ballpark figure but it sounds like you could possibly get covered by insurance. As to how many cup sizes, I think it's just down to preference but doctors will obviously advise in accordance to your body proportion.
Question: Were you happy with results of reduction mammaplasty? I've been considering reduction surgery for about ten years. I'm 26 years old now and recently had a consult with a plastic surgeon who said I'm a good candidate for the procedure. Due to the disproportion of my chest size to my small frame, my history of upper back problems, and previous attempts at physical therapy, etc. he is confident insurance will cover it. My only concerns are regarding having children after the procedure has been done. I do not have kids now but plan to in 3-5 years, and other people have said that I should wait until AFTER I have kids because getting pregnant will cause them to swell back to this size again. However, the surgeon said it's unlikely for that to happen because he will have already removed most of the tissue that would swell/respond to higher estrogen levels. He also said that there's a 50/50 change I will be able to breastfeed where as other women & friends say after reduction I can pretty much kiss any chance of that goodbye. Does anyone have experience with this?
Answer: If you really want to breastfeed, then i suggest you don't take that chance.
Have your kids and then do it.
In the meantime why dont you just get really supportive bras.
Im 17 with an E cup.
I actually don't wear supportive bras just a bunch of pushups but i dont have back problems because i sit up straight everywhere i go and i work my back out and shoulders not to the extent it looks manly but so it can support my boobs.
Don't take that chance if you really want to breast feed.
Question: anyone know if tricare prime remote will cover Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty) Surgery? I am sure that i need this surgry i am almost done having my second child and last I am getting my tubes tied. I am currently a size 38f just because I am expecting in three months. I am normally a 34DD. I am about 5'2. I weigh about 150 and my chest is so large it makes me have pains in my back. I want this surgry do you know if tricare cover it or i would have to pay becasue i am willing to do that I have lived with this problem way to long! Thanks so much!
Answer: I have know of woman who have had several surgeries that where considered "elective" but where necessary because of medical reasons. There is a process, you have to have a Doctors recommendation, so best advice would be to talk to your provider in regards to it, if there is a medical reason it can be done, but only with your Doctors assistance and filing of the proper paperwork. You have to have A LOT of documentation. Good Luck! Be aware it will be a lengthy process, and you probably won't be able to get it started until after recovery from Child Birth and the tubal ligation.
Question: PLEASE!!! Breast reduction?? My best friend is having a mammaplasty at the end of this month. She wants to know if any of you have ever had one. If so, how bad does it hurt, for how long and how long will she be bedridden?
Answer: I would seriously consider not going for it unless it is dibilitating to her lifestyle. Some complications of breast reduction include, uneven breasts, breasts of slightly different size and distortion to your nipples. If she is particularly concerned as to how your nipples poise you may want to read up on some web journals as to just how many post op problems have been reported. I would recommend getting quality bras and getting professionally sized. Many well endowed women dont wear the right size or type of bra. hope this helps.
Question: I'm only 18 and my breasts lay flat on my stomach!? Oh dear... my boobs have gotten so big that gravity just took control and now they've dropped LOW... so low that they now literally lay flat on my abdomen.
It's crazy. I'm going to have to do something about it. This afternoon my kind mother is taking me to the doctors to get a referral to see a cosmetic surgeon. I am going to try and convince the doc that I NEED a breast reduction mammaplasty.
Is it normal that I'm only 18 and already my breasts are touching my abdomen? I feel like I've aged prematurely or something :(
Just letting you know, I HAVE worn a properly-fitting bra for years, too.
Bored2pieces2, if you want an idea of how much my breasts are drooping, the photo I found of this woman came pretty close:

Answer: It is normal if you have large breasts for your breasts to touch your abdomen.
Mine did at a young age too.
Question: breast reduction surgery? I have read that according to most states' law, a surgeon will have to be able to remove at least 500 g (just over a pound) of tissue from each of your breasts for reduction mammaplasty to be deemed medically necessary. That being said, this is a very strange query I have but it is one i am honestly curious about because i am contemplating getting a reduction surgery in a few years ( in that time i;ll be saving up) . My question is: how does a woman one know the weight of each of her breast? In other words, is there some approximation chart i could find online or in a book that determines the weight based on cup size? or, is there another legitimate way for me to find out?.
Please no inappropriate comments or answers that will not answer this question accurately, Thank you!
Answer: i was a 32ddd and now a 32c, the removed about 750-800g from each one, about a 1.5-1.7lbs. does that put it in perspective a little bit?
they are not as heavy as you think...
Question: Who should I talk to to ask about getting insurance to cover Mammaplasty ? I know that in certain special cases insurance will sometimes cover breast reduction surgery, like when it causes spinal and respiratory issues. Im certain that if i got checked out by a dr i could qualify. But which dr should i talk to? Primary care physician or gyno or another type of dr?
Answer: Talk to your family doctor and then a PS that is under your health insurance plan (see at least three PS's before deciding).
