Labial
Pertaining to the lips
Question: Can a labial frenum disappear by itself? I've always had a small muscle (labial frenum) between my two front teeth, causing a gap between them as well. I really want perfect straight non-gap teeth, and I heard that frenectomies hurt, and I was just wondering if labial frenums disappear or go away by themselves? Or will I forever be doomed to have imperfect teeth? :|
Answer: Almost always, these labial frenums are too tough to disappear and the gap close up. If not removed with a frenectomy, you will always have the space.
Question: Will a Labial frenectomy fix the gap between my front teeth? I got my braces off several years ago and recently I noticed that I have a small gap between my teeth because the gums are forcing the teeth apart. If I had a Labial frenectomy would the gap close on its own? If so how fast would it close?
*Ok it sounds like a diastema closure is the way to go, is it expensive? If you could, give a price range that would be ideal.
Answer: I had that surgery done while I still had braces when I was a teenager. The periodontist also removed some tissue from my gums in between my front teeth. This seemed to help. To this day, I still have a slight gap in between my front teeth, but it's definitely better than it was pre-surgery. I'm not sure if the gap would close much on it's own though- you may need to get braces of some sort. Good luck!
Question: Children with gaps between their teeth due to extended superior labial frenulums? All of my 4 children have their superior labial frenulums extend on between their two front teeth leaving a nice gap. They all still have baby teeth. Any other parents see this in their children and did their children then have gaps between their permanent front teeth? Did any children have surgery on their frenulums?
Answer: The first thing to do is wait and see how their permanent teeth grow in after they lose their baby teeth. If they still have large gaps between their front teeth, ask their dentist and see what he says. Sometimes braces corrects the problem. I had a large gap between my front teeth (pretty sure it was due to the labial frenulum, but not positive) and two years of braces fixed the problem for me. Sometimes, surgery is required to fix the problem. My friend had the surgery and she said it was pretty simple. I think all they basically do is clip the muscle pushing the two teeth apart. You probably won't be able to get a definite answer right away since your children still have all their baby teeth, so it will probably be a "wait and see" thing for awhile.
Question: Can a pet get sick from licking someone with labial herpes? or transmit to others it licks? I'm afraid of getting licked by a dog whose owner has labial herpes and who is constantly licking it's owner and everyone around it.
Answer: Yes you can get it if the dog licks the blisters of your neighbor. The dog could transfer it to you if your immunity is weak. If you're anxious about it then try to avoid the dog.
Question: are there any side affects after having a labial frenectomy? i am having a labial frenectomy in a week and i am really scared. for my consultation i blanked out and forgot to ask questions. does anyone know if there are any side affects, maybe after a couple of years, after having a labial frenectomy? for example a droopy upper lip. also if the frenum attaches the upper lip to the gums, then if that gets taken away wont the upper lip move in different directions when you talk?
Answer: I'm a dentist.
Those are excellent questions!
The frenum generally does not affect the position of the lip on your face...at least, not as far as I know. Thus, removing it almost certainly will not cause any change in position of your lip when relaxed.
Depending on the size and attachment points of the frenum, and the relaxed position of your lip, removing the frenum may increase the mobity of your lip, which in turn may slightly alter the shape of your smile, (e.g. a little more tooth-show of your upper teeth). The change would be very minor, however.
Typically, removal of the frenum is not for the purpose of your lip, but rather your teeth, as its presence (when attached between your maxillary incisors) can cause a large gap between your maxillary central incisors.
Relax, you're going to be just fine.
Besides, the procedure is an absolute cakewalk.
Question: Does a labial frenectomy (dentist office procedure) change the shape of the lips? I was advised by my dentist to get a labial frenectomy (remove a large frenulum). Will it alter the shape of my mouth or top lip? Thank you!
Answer: No it wont. It will allow the gap between your teeth to close.
Question: Is gum grafting possible for upper labial frenulum region? I was in an accident about 10 years ago and just recently finished an implant with a bonegraft for one of my upper central incisors. The problem is that my upper labial frenulum is now close to my upper central incisor because my gum had receded after that accident that had lost my tooth. The root of my implant tooth is visible if I smile too wide because the gum is missing. What are the best solutions for this?
Answer: That should have been addressed prior to the placement of the implant. Correction at this point will be difficult if not impossible. Have you seen a periodontist for an evaluation? That would be my suggestion for the best possible chance of a solution. Good Luck
Question: is the upper labial frenulum supposed to separate over time? i'm 18 years old. just recently i have realized that my upper labial frenulum has separated in half and caused my upper lip to come out a little more. is that supposed to happen?
can i get it corrected?
Answer: No its not supposed to happen, but in rare cases it does, yes it can be corrected, go to the periodontist and they can stitch it together, did you by any chance hurt yourself there?
Question: What can i eat after havinq a Labial Frenectomy Surgery done? I am gettinq my frenectomy surgery done durinq winter break, and im not very scared. But i was wonderinq, After i get this done, will i be able to eat regular food? Or will i have to eat ice cream, and mashed potatoes and stuff like that?
Answer: This is a very simple procedure, actually. The incision just feels like a pizza burn for a couple of days, and is nothing Motrin can't solve. For the first day, don't eat anything warm or hot, because it stimulates bleeding, and of course refrains from biting on things like a whole apple. You shouldn't have any problems at all, it sounds scary, but it's not at all.
Question: How much does a labial frenectomy cost in the UK? Has anyone had this procedure done in the UK, and if so what did it cost you?
Answer: You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here - health-quotes.isgreat.org
Question: What is the ultimate best skin cream out there for nasal labial lines? Guys, really think hard for this. I mean, I've visited other parts of the world. So many great creams out there, especially in Japan. Those guys have some secret formula. Most likely their diet. Think about it, they smoke the most, but they look damn young. Anyway, Dr. Ci Labo is good. Check it out. Acupuncture is becoming more and more popular to create collagen within the skin.
Thanks a bunch-
Answer: Sorry...Creams won't do it for nasal labial lines...that is purely poor muscle tone.
Question: How long does a Labial Frectonomy & getting Braces fitted take? Also do they both hurt?
Answer: Try frenectomy
I got braces back in the and they're no picnic.
Takes a while. As for the "frenectomy" no clue, wiki'd it though, doesn't seem that involved. The mouth is a sensitve area though. Honestly< I have broken MANY bones and I wouldn't look forward to getting braces again. Remember to liston to the ortho-dude about what U cannot eat. You'll cause serious probs. if U don't . Peace D)
Question: Has anyone had a labial frenectomy by laser? My daughter, 11 needs to have this done. What was your experience like? How many needles do they use to numb the area? Were you able to get gas before the needles? How long does the laser actually take? Is there pain after the
procedure?
Answer: Never had one done on me but I have performed several. I start off with nitrous before the injection. Then I use a topical anesthetic and very slowly inject above each front tooth. This is not too bad if done this way. The laser is a nicer way to go versus using a scalpel. There is minimal bleeding and soreness. The area will be a bit raw and tender for a few days, and salty and acidic foods should be avoided. Also brushing the front teeth should be done gently. All in all much less post op discomfort than an extraction would have. i wish her good luck.
Question: Would it be considered a Sin to ask my Beloved to get a Labial Bleaching? Now, I prefer sensual Brunette females much more than the average male, but sometimes, as the adage says, you can have "too much of a good thing". When I suggested to my Christian lady that she would look "Pretty in Pink", she replied that to do so would constitute a "Sin", as it would be altering the perfectly-conceived "Temple of God", blaspheming what God had made.
Is this so? Could using an over-the-counter "Beauty"-treatment be considered a Sin?
Answer: Even Christ loves pink - it would be a blasphemy to say otherwise

So no, i don't think your lady would be sinning, as Jesus portrays it so lovely above too
Question: how long does it take for the lip to completely heal after a labial frenectomy? Right now it just looks a bit grey/brown. No stitches, my dentist used a laser on me this morning. It's reaaaallly ugly, I was wondering when it would all go back pink like the rest of my gums again.
Answer: If your dentist used a laser it will actually heal faster than if he cut it and required stitched. After approximately 10-14 days your gums should show marked signs of improvement.
Question: I think my stitches on my labial frenectomy came out. How will it affect my recovery(my smile)? I had a labial frenectomy done yesterday.
Today one of my friends made me laugh really hard and I think one of the stitches came out. I am worried about how the early removed stitch will affect my smile( the way my upper lip curls into a smile).
Can anyone tell me if this will change the way my smile appears?
Answer: I wouldnt as much worry about the smile as I would worry about scarring. I would get back to the doctor as soon as possible so you can have it fixed. After so long they cant fix it and it will mess up.
Question: Who should I call to get my labial majora checked out to see if I have anything? I think an on gyn doctor, but I'm really not sure. Does anyone have any ideas?
Answer: You can have either a doctor or gyno check it out. Chose who ever your comfortable with.
Question: Reasons for getting a upper labial frenum removed? for those who don't know, an upper labial frenum is the little weird piece of skin that attaches the upper lip to the gum. and i want to get mine sniped. it's really long and annoying but i don't really have a real reason for wanting to get rid of it. i play with it a lot and it makes me look really silly! I'm tired of having it!! is that a legitimate reason for a DR. to remove it?
Answer: If it bothers you then that is a good enough reason.
Question: How much does a labial frenectomy hurt? I know they numb it but I heard even the needle hurts more than a needle on your bottom gums...and I'm not quiet sure of the procedure...I've heard there have been laser treatment and another treatment where knifes are used to cutt it open?
Ouch.....
So yeah...how badly does it hurt? The needle...the actual procedure...Whats the usual or the latest treatment knife or lazer...?
I'm so scareeed.
Answer: During the procedure, you'll be anesthetized and shouldn't feel any pain during it. However, after the novacaine wears, it will be uncomfortable and difficult to do things for a couple of days. Like move the area (either the lips, tongue, teeth, or all of the above), drink acidy things, eat crunchy things, and more. It stinks but worth the alternative which can be any number of reasons, if you don't have it done.
They can use lasers which will help with some of the healing or they can use a small blade to make an incision and a couple of stitches. I believe the latest thing is the laser however there's some controversy about the benefits. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure about it, so take this with a grain of salt.
Nothing to be scared of. Think of the last time you bit your lip accidentally. It hurt for a day and it when back to normal. It'll be similar to that. Good luck.
Question: what could be wrong if my upper labial frenulum is swollen? the thin piece of skin within my lip is swollen and is very sore...i just want to know what could be wrong.
Answer: Most likely you scraped it while biting into something rough.....happens with toast or tacos a lot. Sometimes people scratch it while they are brushing their teeth, make sure your toothbrush is not too old, they get worn out and scratchy after a while.
You could also have a cancer sore in the area, these are painful, but go away on their own in time. If the area gets more swollen, or starts to bleed or any other weird symptom, have a dentist take a peek.
