LASEK
LASer Epithelial Keratomileusis; eye surgery to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism for patients with a flat or thin eye
Question: Does anyone know if it safe to have Lasek Eye Surgery during pregnancy? I wanted to ask someone at the Lasek office, but the woman who handles all of those types of questions is not back until Aug. 11. Yes, I find it very strange that no one else in the office can answer.
Answer: There is no danger to the pregnancy , but being pregnant can cause your vision to fluctuate , and can also cause changes in the tear film.
Even regular eye exams for glasses are not recommended during pregnancy because of the possible changes happening to the eyes, although they are usually temporary.
So, I'm not 100 % sure, but I doubt lasik is a good option during pregnancy.
Question: What is the advantages of LASEK over LASIK? I am going to get corrective surgery and my doctor said that I am a candidate for both. He said that maybe LASEK would be better for me but it is a much longer recovery time. So I was wondering if there is any advantages to have Lasek over lasik?
Answer: Lasek corrective surgery is probably the better way to go -
It is better if your cornea is on the thin side.-
It is a newer method than Lasik - but seems to have better results - especially if your cornea is on the thin side.
I would go with what your opthomoligist suggests is the best way.
Question: what are charce military pay for my lasek? I know a co-worker he's admin in navy got approve lasek treatment last year navy pay for a whole. what are chance get approve and uusaly what requirement anyone went to lasek in military?
Answer: Yes you can get PRK through the navy. You have to be screened first, and approval from your chain of command. There is a priority bassed on job for waiting. I was priority 2 due to being an MA, right now they are trying to get as many people through before deployments. It's easier than trying to replace glasses while deployed.

Question: After three months after LASEK surgery, why are my eyes still red? It's been 3 months after I did LASEK, and my right eye is still quite red but only in certain areas where I see more veins running on the whites of the eye. Why is this? My doctor hasnt said anything about it, but has anyone also experienced this?
Answer: plenty of people. a common cause is pre-existing "pinguecula" that are inflamed. another common cause is dryness.
ask your doc. also try using A LOT more artificial tears/lubricant. like every 1-2 hrs.
Question: Where is a good place to get lasek or lasik operation within Toronto? Where is a good place to get operations within Hamilton, or Toronto, Canada? (or some other cities nearby) I'd also like to know the average price. Thank you!
Answer: I believe TLC has a location in Toronto. I got my laser training in Windsor Canada and I do believe they have another facility in Toronto. As to price, don't know. Just give them a phone call.
Question: Is it bad to smoke weed after LASEK surgery ? I had LASEK surgery on my eyes one year ago , is it harmful for my eyes to smoke weed ?

giver!!
Question: Does wearing eye contact lenses effect the Lasek surgery? I wear eye contact lenses but I heard that wearing them for a long time may cause trouble when I'm going to do the lasek Surgery for my eyes...Is it true?
Answer: When you are scheduled to do LASIK/LASEK/PRK, your doctor usually tells you to refrain form wearing contacts for 2 weeks prior to your surgery. That applies to soft contact lens users. If you are a RGP/Hard contact lens user, typically you should not wear them for about 2 months. Most doctors recommend even longer periods of time if you are wearing RGP's.
This is becuase when you wear contact lenses, especially RGP's, they cause your cornea to form to the shape of the contact over time. If youo dont wear ocntacts for a long time, your coneas gradully revert to its original form. This is important becuase it is essential to have a cornea that is in its original state to get optimum visual acutity with your LASIK.
Question: How does deterioration work after Lasik, Lasek, or PRK eye surgery? I'm wondering basically what the question asks!
right now i have 20/200 uncorrected - 20/20 corrected vision. I was wondering if I get one of the following eye surgeries, will my vision just deteriorate to the same degree at which it is now?
Thanks
Answer: LASIK eye surgery is a medical procedure that can correct your vision by altering the physical properties of your eye. Unlike traditional surgical procedures that depend upon the skills and steadiness of the surgeon's hand, advanced LASIK eye surgery is computer controlled.
The more progressive LASIK surgery centers perform in-depth analysis of your eyes as an evaluation procedure to determine if you're a good candidate for the LASIK procedure. The evaluation process, which is largely controlled by computer itself, maps the overall physical makeup of each eye. A traditional eye exam determines your visual abilities and then an exhaustive computer analysis determines if your eyes can be enhanced by the LASIK procedure.
In addition to determining whether or not you're a good candidate for LASIK, the procedure also records quite a bit of data that's specific to your eyes. If you choose to proceed with the LASIK surgery, this data is used to program the computer controlled LASIK equipment to insure that your eyes are modified exactly in the proper manner so as to provide maximum benefit.
LASIK eye surgery is relatively safe and it can free you from glasses and contacts. Before you commit to LASIK surgery, make sure that you consider all the advantages and disadvantages of having the procedure. Ask the doctor lots of questions so that you can make an informed decision about whether LASIK eye surgery is the right choice for you.
Question: Why Bill Gates dont do Lasek surgery? it means is there any risk in Lasek? Do you know any famous persons (of any field) who did lasek surgery to stop using glasses?
Answer: Tiger Woods had his done at TLC. He was their spokesman for some time but no longer is. It seems like Tiger would have more need for very precise vision than Bill Gates. I have wondered why one of the richest men in the world does not have better looking eye wear. He may be extremely near sighted. This would be the case if he had the highest tech lenses possible and they still looked thick. That would put him outside the range of LASIK. He is also past 40. People that are older cant be completely free of glasses even if they have LASIK.
Question: About how much does it cost for Lasek eye surgery cost to fix nearsightedness? With or without insurance.
Answer: one of my friends got laser eye surgery and she said it was the biggest mistake ever. she still has to wear contacts and it messed her eyes up.
Question: what do you think about lasek laser eye suregery? i had lasek eye surgery just over 3 years now and when i had the surger it took few months before my vision settled, happy with the results overall becuase i was very shortsighted but my vision in a low light and at night is still poor but its good when its a sunny day. how can i improv e my vision becuase i don't want to wear glasses again?
Answer: If appropriate, you are able to have enhancement laser surgery. You could even have LASEK again. I'm assumming that it was actually LASEK you had, not Lasik.
There is a detailed article about vision correction surgery and pupil size at:
http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/lasik-pupil-size.htm
Whether or not you can improve your night vision depends on many factors that would require a comprehensive examination from a competent doctor.
Something mentioned in the article is the eye drop Alphagan P. You can put in a drop in the evening and it may really help with those low light vision problems.
Question: Whats the difference between Lasek and Lasik?
Answer: Here ya go, Josh!
Lasik: Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis
Lasek: Laser Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratomileusis
The link below is a link to a chart that compares them for you!
Question: How long after LASIK/LASEK before you can drink alcohol? Got a birthday party coming up!
Answer: It's not so much the surgery that will keep you from alcohol, but the medications you may be taking.
They'll probably give you a mild sedative prior to the procedure - no alcohol after that.
Then, there's the scratchy/itchy sensation that can make it VERY hard to fall asleep, so you'll also get a sleeping pill. You can't have alcohol prior to taking a sleeper.
But by the third day after the procedure, you shouldn't have problems.
Question: I undergo LASEK eye surgery before 3 weeks and i have blurry vision, is it normal? I also have problems driving at night, my doctor said it takes time to get a 20/20 vision, but my friends told me that they got 20/20 vision a week after the surgery, I'm really scared. I really want to how long should it take to get a 20/20 vision?
Answer: I just went in for a consultation and they said it could take up to a month to get rid of the blurriness but you should be able to see for the most part.
Question: What is the difference between Wavefront Lasik, LASEK, and PRK?
Answer: "The primary difference between conventional Lasik and wavefront custom Lasik is the mapping system that guides the laser. Wavefront can be used for virtually all laser eye surgery techniques including All-Laser Lasik, Lasik, PRK, LASEK, and Epi-Lasik."

I could keep copying info that I think is good from these, but there is so much good information. It talks about how after PRK, there was a problem with a little haziness sometimes...because of the injury to the eye, cells were sent there, and created a "haze." And with Lasik, there is a flap, but the cornea is "fooled" into thinking there is no injury, so it won't produce the haze.
Ask your opthalmologist lots of questions because that's his job, so don't feel bad about wanting to be clear about your options.
Question: what is the difference between LASEK and PRK? anybody know?
Answer: lasik & lasek both make a "flap"
prk does not. prk just blasts away :D
lasik: shorter recovery time, good vision sooner, less painful, but have to deal with flap issues once in a blue moon
prk: longer recovery time, more painful, good vision in 2-3 weeks, no flap problems, but have to deal with corneal haze once in a blue moon. i think a little higher rx's can be done than in lasik/lasek as well
Question: Is Cornea transplantation better for my cornea ulcer or PRK (Lasek) surgery? My Cornea ulcer is thick and I have that one for about 19 mounths.
Answer: transplant by far- Why keep the inferior tissue?
Question: Will my eye power increase after lasek treatment? What are some of the questions i need to ask the surgeon before the surgery.
And some of the things to look out for after the surgery.
Answer: I don't understand what you mean about eye power. Lasik makes your eyesight 20/20,but your eyes can still change though so chances are Lasik surgery will not be permanent. I am 4 years post surgery and I am starting to have problems seeing at night, during the day it is fine though. As for questions, my Dr. explained everything to me in great detail so I didn't have any questions but I think 1 important thing to know is how much they will charge if you need an enhancement. I have free lifetime enhancements but I paid extra for it. Most plans have free enhancements for 6 months only.
After surgery look out for nothing negative! I was thrilled to be able to see clearly that first morning! I drove myself to the Dr. for my post check up without glasses and it felt so cool!! I had 1 black eye for a week but nothing that a little makeup couldn't cover.
Question: For those of you who've had either Lasik, Lasek or PRK, what type of profile were you given if at all any? The reason why I ask is because I am getting PRK done in 12 days and I also have a PT test coming up in approximately 6 weeks. I don't want to get the surgery right now if it's going to hinder my ability to take my APFT.
Thanks in advance!
Answer: 30 days from time of surgery for my PRK I had done in April 2008. You will have to bring in all of your surgery and post-op notes from the doctor up to one month afterwards to be cleared. If you are getting it done at a military treatment facility, you will get all this done by them.
Make sure to have the 2-3 days after your surgery as time off. I slept those two days and just laid around the house with my sunglasses on and drank plenty of water. It wasnt bad, and to not have to worry about glasses now, is beyond words awesome. Good luck with it and hope you get the results I did..
I went from -7 in both eyes to 20/20 in both..magic!
