Hyperplasia
An increase in the number of cells
Question: What are they symptoms of a ruptured Focal Nodular Hyperplasia? I was diagnosed with Focal nodular hyperplasia, which is a type of benign tumor on the liver. I've been having a lot of pain lately. Along with tingling sensations that just started today. I was wondering if anyone knew the symptoms of a ruptured Focal nodular hyperplasia. I can't find any info online about it. Thanks so much.
Answer: Pain is the only symptom. If you look under
"presentation"of this web page, you will see it mentioned.
I definitely would have it checked out right away. From the second article that
talks about rupture...it is very rare.

Usually what symptoms a patient has
with a tumor, will only increase if there
becomes a problem with it.
Wish I could tell you more.
Question: Are fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia or polyps a precursor to cancer? I'm 44 and had heavy menstrual bleeding. Ultrasounds and MRI showed three small fibroids, focal complex hyperplasia and polyps. I've been trying natural remedies which have improved menses dramatically, no longer heavy, nor as painful. Should I still have hysteroscopy or other procedure done, or does the resolution of symptoms mean I'm OK?
Answer: Not a precursor to cancer. Chances are the pain and bleeding will return. Interuterine scraping is another option, but I hear it is painful and not always effective. Hysterectomy may be another option for you if you just want to be done all together.
Question: How would you prevent intimal hyperplasia? Intimal hyperplasia is the universal response of a vessel to injury and is an important reason of late bypass graft failure, particularly in vein and synthetic vascular grafts.
Answer: Low dose beta radiation seems to be a goer.
Antioxidants seem not to be useful.
Femoropopliteal PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) bypass with distal AS interposition provides improved graft patency and limb salvage rates when compared with those published in the literature for PTFE bypass without the (distal arterial segment) AS.
Question: What is atypical hyperplasia of the breast? Mine is not cancerous, but can it turn into cancer, and what can I do to prevent it from turning into cancer. Right now they have me on tomxafin.
Answer: You're already doing what you should do, taking the tomixafin. Atypical hyperplasia means that the cells are abnormal, but not cancerous. It does put you at a higher risk in developing cancer. If you have family history that raises the risk. But because you've discovered this you will be monitoring very closely and if indeed something turns up, you'll be ready. Tomixafin is the treatment of choice because it works...so try not to worry too much.
Question: What is the difference between Neoplasia and Hyperplasia? I was wondering if there is a difference.. They both seem to be about the abnormal proliferation of cells? Thank yooouuu!
Answer: literally neoplasia means new growth. hyperplasia means more growth but doesn't necessarily mean its abnormal. Dysplasia means abnormal
Question: What can you recommend for my benign prostatic hyperplasia besides drugs? I have been diagnosed of having BPH. I have this condition for about ten years now. I take saw palmetto and pygeum africanum. They seem to be working because my urination, while of low "caliber", has not gone worse. But I still experience "dribbling" at the end of my urination. Can you recommend other effective supplements?
Answer: Good thing I saw your question, your symptoms call for the Homeopathic remedy CONIUM MAC in 1M potency take it once a week for atleast 3 weeks(3 Doses) and please keep me posted about your progress. It would be lots better if you can post your complete details and symptoms which you are feeling. But as far as I see it just CONIUM MAC will cure you 100% without any side effects or complications. To read about the said remedy please click the link and read carefully :- http://homeoint.org/books/boericmm/c/con…
Take Care and God Bless !
Question: Can you use Saw Palmetto for horses with similar symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia? There is a horse at my barn who urinates up to 12 times before noon, and we have noticed that his case resembles prostate issues. Saw Palmetto was recommended by a doctor for prostate, so why not for a horse?
Answer: What is recommended for humans may not be recommended for animals. You need to talk to a vet to get the answers you need.
Question: What is the difference between hyperplasia and hypertrophy?
Answer: Hyperplasia (or "hypergenesis") is a general term for an increase in the number of the cells of an organ or tissue causing it to increase in size. It may be due to any number of causes including (but not limited to) increased demand, chronic inflammatory response, hormonal dysfunctions, or neoplasia.
Hypertrophy is the increase of the size of an organ. It should be distinguished from hyperplasia which occurs due to cell division; hypertrophy occurs due to an increase in cell size rather than division. It is most commonly seen in muscle that has been actively stimulated, the most well-known method being exercise.
Question: What is the difference between prostatic adenoma and benign prostatic hyperplasia?
Answer: Prostatic adenoma is cancer, plain and simple. Benign hyperplasia is simply enlargement of the prostate gland. The latter occurs to most men, if they live long enough. It becomes an issue only if it enlarges to the point that urination becomes difficult.
Question: What exactly is a penile erection medically? Is it hypertrophy or hyperplasia? How can one explain it? In medical terms what is it? Why only the penis has got this peculiar property? Was just wondering.... Thanks for your patience. Hope this was not odd to read.
Answer: If you type up hypertrophy on your computer, o brilliant one, a page will pop up w/various websites. Scroll down to Wikepedia & it will explain fully the difference between hypertrophy & hyperplasia.
Question: What is adrenal hyperplasia and what are its possible effects?
Answer: Congenital adrenal hyperplasia can affect both boys and girls. People with congenital adrenal hyperplasia lack an enzyme needed by the adrenal gland to make the hormones cortisol and aldosterone.
Without these hormones, the body produces more androgen, a type of male sex hormone. This causes male characteristics to appear early (or inappropriately).
Here is a good article from the National Institute of Health: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/…
Question: For woman who has endometrial hyperplasia, what kind of food should avoid and take? How about tufu and bean product? Should avoid also?
Answer: no meals in specific to be avoided. just avoid fats - it is a source of extra ovarian estrogen.

Question: how many people are living with congenital adrenal hyperplasia? I need to know for a project. thanks.
Answer: There is no way to know this. The frequency for CAH is one in 10-15,000 births in those countries where it has been studied (western countries). However, in developing countries in particular, most children with CAH die in the newborn period. Also, in certain countries it is much more frequent due to consanguinity (marriage within related family groups, like cousins). In Vietnam for example, CAH affects 1/2500 children. In one center in India, the frequency was 1/1200. But since most of these children will die, there is no way to come up with an accurate estimate of the number of people worldwide with CAH. These numbers also are only for classical CAH. Nonclassical CAH is very common but most people who have it genetically never develop symptoms that cause them to seek medical care. Since CAH is fairly rare, there is not a lot of studies that look at these kinds of population based data, unlike cancer or diabetes.
Question: What is the success rate for "Vaginal hyperplasia Resection"? My eight month lab pup has a skirt of skin around the vulva and uretha that's causng irritation and bladder infection. She has antobiotics and Animax cream twice a day.The vet suggest this surgery at a cost of $1,500.00. Do you recommend this approach? Suggestions?
Answer: I would get a second opinion first. It just means that she has too much skin down there that is blocking the opening. That is a lot of money for an unnecessary surgery if the vet is wrong.
Make sure she is spayed. You don't want to pass a defect to puppies. And it shouldn't cost too much extra to just clip off the skin during a spay. That is a very high cost for such a minor surgery. I would see a second vet. Unless you are in a large, expensive urban area, it should be less than five hundred dollars to fix this.
If that is the problem, the success rate is one hundred percent. It is a minor clipping of the outer layer of the vaginal area.
Question: what is lymphoid hyperplasia if it is malignant? can you describe me what is lymphoid hyperplasia if it is malignant?
Answer: It is just an overproduction of cells. As I am entering my answer I and looking at hyperplasia on my hands, it's not cancer and will never become cancerous.
Question: Is there another treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) besides Doxazosin and Flomax? I suffer with an enlarged prostate and the two medicines that I take now (Flomax and Doxazosin) causes my tongue to swell. Is there another medication I can take that doesn't cause my tongue to swell. Help me please!
Answer: There are multiple medications out there for this and the fact that you are having tongue swelling IS an allergic reaction and the medications should be stopped immediately. Uroxatral and terazosin are alternatives.
Your doctor may decide to go another way and try something like Avodart or Proscar (generic is finasteride) to actually help shrink the size of the prostate. These take longer to get the full effect - say six months or more - but our practice uses them with relatively good results.
Question: Is SAW PALMETTO effective for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (bph) or enlarged prostate? I have this illness and is planning to take saw palmetto but I'm not sure if it is effective.
Answer: There is quite a lot of data in respected literature regarding the efficacy of Saw Palmetto Berry (Serenoa repens) in the treatment of BPH. I would recommend you take a jaunt on pubmed and see for yourself.
The key influence of Serenoa is the inhibition of an enzyme that converts regular testosterone into an extremely powerful form that generally is not supposed to last very long in your system. This powerful form of testosterone is responsible for enlarging the prostate and probably has a hand in prostate cancer. It also is the culprit in a lot of male pattern hair loss. Why is that strong hormone sticking around longer than it should? We think it's because of the Western diet -high in red meat and junk. Our livers are responsible for neutralizing that strong hormone and when they are taxed with all the junk and extra hormones of our modern diets they cant keep up. In Western cultures -esp US, we expect about 50% of men over the age of 40 to have this condition.
When you do the research you'll see the tremendous science -but, you will also notice recent snipey reports trying to debunk it. This is from the pharmaceutical industry which is trying to push flowmax, proscar, cadura, avodart, etc......
