Halitosis
Condition of having bad breath
Question: halitosis? before i got braces i had fresh, controllable breath but i didnt brush my teeth enough times when i had braces so now i got halitosis. and i have very good oral hygiene right now. i've been using antiseptic mouthwash for about 5 months now but it still doesnt go away. please give me some suggestions on what else i can do?
Answer: Bad breath could be caused by a cavity, but more often it is caused by a combination of gum disease and bacteria on the tongue. Floss after eating. Flossing is more important than brushing. Flossing will normally cause the gums to heal.
And every time you brush your teeth, brush your tongue. When you are done brushing your tongue, it should look red and healthy, not grey. And then use a good antiseptic mouthwash.
Now kiss me!
Question: Halitosis?!? I dated this guy about a year ago. I liked him until he opened his mouth..the odor wasnt foul, but it wasnt pleasant either... I have been with him after he brushed his teeth and the smell was still there, just a little masked.. I am assuming he had halitosis.. what can be done about that if brushing wont work? And how is it caused? Can it be spread?
Answer: Bacteria between the teeth and gums. Need to do a very thorough job of brushing, flossing, mouthwash. Also could be from what he ate or digestive issues. Oral health issues can be the indicator of many other health issues including cardiovascular disease.
Question: What cause canine halitosis and what can cure it? My aunt has a Jack Russell that has cainine halitosis and we've been wondering what causes it and what can cure it. Her dog is nine or ten years old.
Answers appreciated! Thank-you.
Halitosis is bad breath, just so everyone knows.
Answer: Bad breath is usually cause by periodontal disease in dogs. Check his teeth and see if they are white, or if they are yellowed an covered in plaque. In all likelihood there is a need for a dental cleaning.
This is a relatively minor surgery. The dog is anesthetized and the teeth are scaled, polished and sometimes treated with fluoride. The dog must be anesthetized in order for the teeth to be cleaned above the gum line. Depending on the state of the teeth there may be some extractions.

There's not much to be done at home if a full dental is needed. To help prevent the need for this in the future the best thing is to brush the dog's teeth regularly. Oral rinses, dental chews, and dental diets can all help but are not as effective as brushing.

Question: What are the causes of Halitosis and what are the home remedies for it? I am looking for home remedies for Halitosis. Please help me.
Answer: Halitosis refers to bad breath which is not only a sign of ill- health but it is also a social stigma.
The most common cause of halitosis is bad teeth and gum conditions. Other causes of halitosis are any conditions of the nose, throat, respiratory tract, or stomach which are associated with chronic infection or local upsets of one sort or another, such as chronic tonsillitis, lung diseases like chronic bronchitis and bronchitises, chronic gastritis and sinuses which cause a discharge at the back of the throat.
Some of the home remedies for Halitosis are:
1. Take a well-balanced diet consisting of seeds, nuts, grains, vegetables and fruits.
2. The teeth should be cleaned regularly twice a day especially before going to bed at night.
3. Use of fenugreek (methi),unripe guava in your diet.
4. Parsley (prajmoda) is valuable in the treatment of bad breath, etc.

Question: How do I tell a girl she has chronic halitosis? I know this chick and she's cool nice and hot but she has a serious case of halitosis. What's a subtle and nice way to say this? It doesn't have to be subtle but needs to be nice.
Answer: offer her gum or breath mints all the time. eventually she'll get that sometimes it's more of a suggestion than an offer.
Question: Is there a connection between halitosis and mental disorders? My brother is bi-polar and since I can remember he has always had horrible halitosis, I was wondering if there was a connection between the 2.
Answer: Im sorry about your brother's condition.
Yes there is a connection, mental disorders can also affect one's personal maintennance or hygiene that's why in some cases, some develop conditions that are related to it. for example, oral hygiene is neglected, the result is plaque, gingivitis and tooth decay which leads to halitosis.
But in some cases of bi-polar, hormonal changes occur and the salivary flow is also affected by the emotions so the less salivary flow, the more acidic the saliva becomes which makes the bacteria stick to the tooth a lot more and it will also lead to halitosis.
Question: I have a mild but chronic halitosis what is the most effective way of dealing with this? I have a mild but chronic halitosis what is the most effective way of dealing with this without any prescribed medications?
What is an alternative to mints?
Answer: I had fecal breath odor for YEARS. Talked to many doctors who I am sure thought that I was crazy....I finally had a friend who suffers too, send me a eBook he bought 5 or 6 months ago he ask me how his breath smelt and I didn't smell a thing. He said the eBook amongst much else had him stop eating dairy food/ soft drinks and coffee/tea. So I’m like reading it and doing all the stuff it says to do. Thinking this has to be bull. But after a few days my tongue started turning red and felt nice. I worked up the courage to ask a friend how my breath smelt and hes like I don’t smell anything. Now I’m thinking all those years of humiliation and I could have solved it ffs! There is a site about it called Oraltech Labs When I read the site I felt sorry for the guy as he clearly had a real tough time with his bad breath, which pretty much ruined his school years. At lest he found a way to beat his bad breath and is letting others know how. Post this every! where to help people!! Thanks
Question: How would the dentist respond to me if I tell him I have halitosis? I've been to the dentist a billion times, yet I can never gather enough confidence to tell him. I know that my halitosis is simply a bacteria problem, because he inspected my gums and they were perfectly fine. But I wanna know if it's worth telling him. Is he just gonna tell me to continues brushing, or give me some sort of treatment? I know they carry oxyfresh, but should I just buy oxyfresh myself without telling him?
I'm so confused...
Answer: tonito, if you have halitosis you wouldn't need to tell him. he would've noticed it, don't you think? also if you have no problems in the oral cavity it must come from somewhere else. some foods can cause halitosis. stomach ulcers can also cause it. systemic conditions can also cause it. medications for some illnesses can cause it, too. have you considered this?
if it really is bacteria on your tongue, cleaning your tongue with a tongue scraper or simply with your toothbrush will do the job. swishing with antibacterial mouthwash can also help.
good luck
Question: is it possible to have a real relationship if u suffer from halitosis? Im a 22 year old male and ive been single my whole life because i believe halitosis is a relationship killer, ive never had a close relationship with a girl before cause i don't wanna like someone and end up heart broken, so should i try going out there or i should just keep doing this for the rest of my life?
Answer: You need to get something for that, brush your teeth and tongue thoroughly. That's really nasty, and unattractive. So I'd say take care of that before you approach anyone. Not just females.
Question: Other than regular mouthwash, is there a medicine for halitosis? If halitosis is constantly lingering and proper cleaning of teeth, gums, and tongue are maintained is there a digestive problem and is there medication to deal with this problem?
John- I'll look into that
Davy- I've tried all of those oral products. That's why I'm looking for medication now.
Answer: You may have other things going on in your body creating this odor. My sister started having halitosis after years of perfect teeth and oral care. She found out she had liver cancer. It could be something simple or it may be serious. Get to a doctor and have yourself checked out really good. At first they told my sister to just brush, floss and gargle more plus stay away from spicy foods. Be persistant to find the cause and then go from there.
Question: What does rancidity smell like? Does it smell similar to halitosis by any chance? Do all rancid foods give off the same scent? I made some homemade granola that I eat every morning at work. I added some ground-up flax seeds because of their apparent health benefits. On the third day eating from this batch I noticed a weird aftertaste -- really an 'aftersmell' - reminiscent of bad breath (the halitosis kind, which I normally don't have, mind you). I recall reading that flaxseeds (and other seeds too I think) are prone to becoming rancid. So I am wondering if perhaps I am smelling something slightly rancid in my granola.
Other than the smell it tastes pretty good and I don't feel sick or anything after eating it.
So I thought this kind of question would be a good use of Yahoo Answers.... Anyone have any ideas?
Answer: You had best make it fresh every day and keep the ingredients in a cool place.
Flax seeds have a lot of oil and also protein in them. This can be affected by bacteria and fungus (can actually be dangerous if you don't keep it safely).

Question: How do you cure chronic halitosis that stinks up entire house? I have periodontal disease and despite the dental cleanings. Nothing has cured the bad breath problem. It is very offensive. I don't even have to open my mouth. It will stink up the entire room. It smells like a rotten egg sulfer smell odor. It is very depressing!!
Answer: Note to self:
Do not go to Bonnie's house for any reason whatsoever.

Question: How do you make a formal complaint about a manager at work who has severe halitosis? The manager is known to customers and staff alike as "the bloke with the bad breath" in the shop. Staff are having problems with the smell whilst in close proximity to the foul emmissions issuing forth from his mouth. How can something be done (in a kind, non agressive way) about the smell?
Answer: tell HR that captain stinkdragon is killing the staff. let them approach the bloke and deal with it, well, however they deal with such things. bloke probably has a health condition, so tread gently.
Question: Would it be rude to approach the professor about a fellow classmates chronic halitosis? This woman has not brushed her teeth since the course started, and it is sooo bad. I have moved my seat three rows over, and I can STILL smell it. People are literally bringing jackets to cover their noses with.
Before you ask, we have already TOLD her numerous times about her breath. She is perfectly healthy, don't worry, I asked. So an illness is out of the question as the cause.
Answer: I don't think the professor can do anything about it, so telling her/him will probably not do anything.
Have you tried offering her a breath mint?
Question: How to determine if one has Halitosis? How does one determine if they have chronic halitosis without asking someone else's opinion?
Answer: i have read in a magazine, i forgot what it was, they said to wet the back oh your hands with your tongue and let it air dry, then after it has dried check the odor of the spot, be sure to clean your hands before and after doing so..
Question: help i am suffering from halitosis and brushing my teeth is not getting rid of it? yes I have seen a doctor and a dentist. No answer for me. Please don't tell me to chew gum and suck mints because they don't work.
Answer: keep your mouth hydrated (moist) at all times! dry mouth = instant bad breath. rinse your mouth often with a moisturizing non-alcoholic mouthwash like Oasis. Really works.
For long term help, you can try the Dr. Katz's Therabreath system which definitely worked for me 100%.
Question: Would you fear going to the dentist if you had halitosis and the dentist was of the opposite sex?
As long as the objects they put in it are not sharp then.
Oh no, that sounded pervy..
Sassy Brat: It's not a personal problem. And you'd be surprised how many dentists still reel at the thought of a terrible mouth, especially recently qualified ones.
Answer: lol... no. i feel oddly uncomfortable with anyone getting near my mouth, 'cept when i invite them ;)
