Emollient
An agent that smoothes, softens, and moisturizes the skin
Question: Is Glycerin Emollient okay to use for rolled fondant? I'm trying to find glycerin to make rolled fondant and Acme Markets sells equaline (<---brand) Glycerin Emollient (it says: For External Use Only) this can't be the right stuff can it? It says its for chapped skin. The ingredients say: 100% gylcerin.
PLEASE help. The sad part is I went to vo-tech for baking and pastry arts and I've never heard about this stuff.
Answer: you need liquid glycerin , you buy it from a chemist
Question: What is the best over-the-counter emollient? I have nummular dermatitis and in addition to the prescription meds, I'm looking for the best over-the-counter emollient to keep the affected skin moisturized. Any one with experience, I'd love to hear your opinion.
Answer: Eucerin is brilliant and is especially formulated for dry skin conditions.
Question: Is emollient cream good for red skin? Basically I used benzoyl peroxide on my spots a few days ago, which left me with dry, blistery red skin on my face. I've put emollient cream on it, will it get better?
Answer: Yes, it might help.
Question: Is it insulting to give your friend who suffers from Arthritic psoriasis a highly emollient lotion? She is really a good good friend of mine. We grew up together, she revealed tome that she has arthritic psoriasis. I want to help alleviate her pain somehow. I want to give her a care package with a body butter, arthritic ointment and tea, is this a good idea?
Answer: I know for me I'd be a bit embarassed but at the same time I'd know it came from your heart and your desire to give me relief from my pain. Wrap it really well like an actual gift and put in a card that tells her how you feel about her and that you want to help her with her pain and condition to make her happy since that's what she deserves. There should be more friends like you out there, bless your heart! Above all, you know your friend, so if she has the personality to get embarassed then consider it, but deep inside I'm sure she'd appreciate it no matter what! Good luck!
Question: whats the difference between moisturizers and emollient?
mine has liquid paraffin, isopropyl myristate, can i use it daily as a moisturizer?
Answer: The terms “Moisturizer” and “Emollient” are often used interchangeably. However, the term “emollient” more often describes a single ingredient, whereas “moisturizer” describes a finished product. Emollients are substances which soften and soothe the skin, as well as help with dryness, and are part of the composition of moisturizers. Emollients provide occlusion to the skin (a layer of oil to slow water loss and increase moisture content) and serve as a humectant (preserve or increase water content).
Some examples of emollients include Cetearyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Myristate, Triglyceride, Myristic Acid, Palmitic Acid, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glyceryl Linoleate, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Decyl Oleate, and Stearic Acid. Additionally, some examples of “natural” emollients include Lanolin, Plant Oils, Shea Butter, and Cocoa Butter.
BEAUTY BEAT TIP: The best time to apply a moisturizer, and retain the benefits of emollients, is when the skin is damp. So is handy to keep the moisturizer in the bathroom and, after washing the face or showering, lightly pat the skin dry with a towel and mositurize away!
Question: What do you use as an emollient for eczema if you have a sensitivity to paraffin?
Answer: It is very important that you continue to use an emollient of some sort, as they prevent your eczema from getting really dryand sore and more prone to infection.
Paraffin is used in occlusive moisturisers that are mostly, old fashioned, emollient creams used for the treatment of eczema. These creams work by providing a layer of oil on the surface of the skin that prevents water evaporating from the skin surface. They are also the most common types of moisturiser to cause sensitivities, as you have found.
I have had the same problem as you. I became sensitised to lanolin first and then paraffin. Apparently because they are man-made ingredients, rather than natural ones, then it is quite common for the skin to become sensitised.
My advice to you is to opt for a more natural cream. Try and pick something with the fewest ingredients you can find. I would recommend Viridians Chickweed ointment. I also really like Balm Balm Fragrance Free Baby Balm as it has no man made ingredients of any kind. Also buying baby products can ensure a greater deal of purity in the product you choose.
If you were looking for a more "traditional" form of emollient then I would also recommend Salcura's Zeoderm cream as it really helps me. I would also recommend Aveeno cream (the green one with the fewest ingredients) that you can buy in Boots.
I hope this advice helps you. It can be costly trying to find emollients that can work for you and difficult to express to your doctor that you know that you have a sensitivity to any one ingredient. My doctor told me to use petroleum jelly on my eczema despite my protests that it made it worse - in the end I had to switch doctors and do my own research on my eczema, to find something that works for me.
Question: I have two dry skinned ball pythons. Is there a natural emollient I can apply to help moisturize their skin?
Answer: DO NOT APPLY A TOPICAL MOISTURIZER! What is the temp gradient and humidity level in your enclosures? It sounds like shed and/or humidity issues. Do the soaking thing. Another trick I've used with great success when we get dehydrated snakes in at the rescue is a shoebox size plastic sterlite container, leave the lid on it, cut a hole in the side that your snake can easily get through, file/sand down any sharp edges, put a couple inches of fairly wet spagnhum moss in it a nd place it in the snakes enclosure. For some reason some of the snakes prefer using the moist hide to soaking in water dishes.

Question: Does anyone knows of any emollient which is very good for hand eczema?
Answer: There are some forms of cortisone cream that you can buy off the shelf at the pharmacy. Like Gold Bond etc. Just check the labels to see if they contain 'cortisone' or 'cortisol' - these always worked best fro me when I had eczema on my hands.
And whatever you do, don't scratch them. Keep them dry and don't use a lot of soap on them.
Good luck.

Have you tried that? What do you like better?
Thanks!
Answer: Shine, no grease, and sleek too, just make sure you make sure to wash your hair every night, or it will start to grease up. and the Emollient Finishing Gloss is my fav.
Question: Emollient cream as anti-wrinkle moisturiser? Is there enough moisturisation in pure emollient cream to prevent wrinkles?
If not what would you recommend using on your skin when your younger (20) to prevent wrinkles in later years?
Answer: flower, I'm 24 and I started taking care of my face with anti aging lotions since I was 19. After years of trying this and that, this is what I've been using for the last 3 yrs; Preve by Isabella Pelle. It's anti aging, and has the highest concentration of the best moisturizer known to date; hyaluronic acid. I apply it twice daily, in the morning after I wash my face, and at night after I shower. Also suggest you use a mild facial cleanser like Olay foaming. It's mild enough to wash away the dirt/oil/bacteria without the drying effects of soap/acne cleansers.
Question: Does Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream give you zits? I'm extremely prone to zits. I have an extremely dry face. Is it okay to put this product all over my face (and on my zits) or will it make my skin oily and cause acne? HELP!!!!!!
Answer: As long as you don't use too much, it shouldn't give you zits. Try applying on the driest parts of your face first, and if you find that you are getting acne, try something else.
Question: where do they sell Mary Kay EXTRA EMOLLIENT NIGHT CREAM?
Answer: oh my god....check your pharmacist....

Question: what are emollient-based eyeshadows? i've heard makeup artists talk about emollient-based products...but i've never known exactly what emollient-base is.
Answer: Emollients are substances put in cosmetics to soften and soothe the skin. They are similar to moisturizers in lots of ways, except emollients are particular ingredients in a product, whereas a moisturizer is an entire product, if that makes sense. So you can find emollients in a moisturizing lip gloss, for example. :)

Question: how do you remove fish oil smell from clothes? we had to rub cod oil on my daughter's skin as an anti-inflammatory emollient but now I can't get the fish smell out of her bed sheets and clothes. It's so disgusting.
Answer: soak them in detergent and water for a half hour, then wash them with more detergent.
If that doesn't work, buy new ones. There's only so much time and effort one can place on a task before it's no longer worth bothering.
