A bump on the bridge of the nose
Question: How do i convince my parents of giving me surgery for the dorsal hump on the bridge of my nose? i am a 16 year old guy and am tired of that dorsal hump on my nose. my dad did have 2 surgeries on his nose, one because of his crooked nose and the most recent like a week ago because of breathing problems. i just want to know how to convince my parents to give me surgery on my nose and like and health problem i could have if i don't get that dorsal hump on my nose fixed.
Answer: Don't be so concerned with looks. There's more to life.
Question: Can a subtle dorsal hump on my nose be caused by a hit to my nose that didn't actually break my nose? Can a subtle dorsal hump / lump / bump on my nose be caused by an accidental hit to my nose that didn't actually break my nose?
Answer: I'd say so. If you injure it badly and it doesn't heal correctly it could result in a bump. I had a horse step directly on my nose when I was 8 and I was told it wasn't broken. However, I do have a large bump now that I never had prior to the accident.
Question: How to make a dorsal hump less noticeable? I have a dorsal hump(bump on the bridge of my nose). How can I make it look less noticeable. With makeup???Any Tips please???
Answer: oh my gosh i have one of those...i hate it, i want to get a nose job....im sorry i have no idea, just thought id let you know WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER! jew noses 4 ever! hahah
Question: What causes a dorsal hump? What causes a dorsal hump on a nose? I'm curious to know, since I wasn't born with one but it appeared a few years ago.
I have tried googling it, it always shows up plastic surgeons and how they fix the nose.
Answer: have you tried a google or yahoo search for the cause.. it should give you a bunch of websites to help explain this :o)
Question: I have a dorsal hump in the middle of my nose, should I get a nose job? I'm not looking for any surgical stuff, but like a filler kind of nose job: 15 min nose jobs. That way i save money and don't suffer through any pain. My nose has gotten fairly bid, the depression (bump), and i wish it stayed straight, so what should i do?
Answer: i don't know, should you?
Question: How old do you have to be to get a dorsal hump removed?how much would it cost?
Answer: You need to be at least 17 or have quit growing for 1+ year and the cost is roughly $5900.
Question: is the dorsal hump on the nose hereditary? i have a hump on my nose my mother dont have one and neither dos my father, im thinking i got it fro being hit in the nose with a basketbal when i was littlel, but i dont really know
Answer: the answer - it may be either the result of a trauma or it may be hereditary.
Nose reshaping, or rhinoplasty, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedure performed today. Often, the structure or size of the nose is not proportionate with the other features on the face. Nose reshaping procedures can help to correct the disproportionate appearance of the nose by altering the size or shape of the nose, the span of the nostrils, or the angle between the nose and the upper lip. In addition, nose reshaping procedures may be performed to correct a nasal birth defect or injury as well as chronic breathing problems. It is important to realize that individuals considering a nose reshaping procedure should be at least fifteen years of age, as this procedure should only be performed after the nose has finished developing completely.
Before you learn how nose reshaping procedures work, it is important that you understand the anatomy of the nose. The framework of the nose is primarily made of bone and cartilage. The upper portion of the nose is supported by bone. Dorsal humps, which are areas of built up cartilage or bone, can form along the dorsum, or ridge of the nose. The lower portion of the nose is supported by different plates of cartilage that extend laterally from the center of the nose, determining the shape and appearance of the nasal tip.
The Dorsal Hump (the bump)
"The bump" on the nasal bridge is one of the most common concerns amongst Caucasian patients seeking rhinoplasty. The bump, which is called the dorsal hump in medical terminology and is composed of both bone and cartilage, may be a hereditary feature or a result of trauma.
The degree to which the dorsal hump is reduced may vary, and depends on the size of the dorsal hump and the patients aesthetic or cosmetic desire. The degree to which a dorsal hump needs reduction also determines the surgical technique used to reduce it. This may mean the difference between "rasping" (filing) the bump, or having to cut the bones, which tends to result in more bruising (for instance around the eyes), swelling, and therefore a slightly longer recovery period.
The width of the bridge may also need to be narrowed at the time of surgery and this may result in what appears as a disproportionatly large tip. The surgeon may, therefore, recommend refining the tip slightly to maintain the overal proportions of the nose and ensure an optimum cosmetic result.
Dorsal hump reduction and tip refinement with or without elevating the tip, is a very common combination of techniques in cosmetic rhinoplasty surgery.
Question: DORSAL HUMP REMOVAL FOR BREATHING? I have a very tall, thin nose with a large dorsal hump...
I have had difficulties with breathing for years now and at long last I have received a referal to the hospital.
My surgeon stated that it would be a good way forward to have septoplasty and turbinate surgery first to see if this shall help my breathing...
My question is / concern is that because i have a very tall thin nose 'I' i think this work shall have no real effect because the side of my nose shall still close in towards the centre, thus effecting my breathing....
can anyone help with some positive advice...
Answer: Cartilage bumps can come after a hump removal. This is usually related to osteogenesis of both bone and cartilage from the removal site. It also occurs as the nose settles in and down, where bumps can become more apparent, especially in thin-skinned individuals.

Question: I have a dorsal hump, can someone help me? I have had a dorsal hump on my nose for awhile now, and I'm wondering how it got there...? I get made fun of a lot because I have what appears like a "big" nose, and I'm tired of it. Is there anyway of shrinking the dorsal hump down or removing it without surgery? I really want it gone, but I don't have the money to pay for the surgery. Can someone please help me?
please help me! and it's not a beauty mark, it just appeared not too long ago.
Answer: How do you know it's a dorsal hump? Did you have the doctor check it your nose? If it is, then most likely the only way to have it removed is by surgery. Depending on the size of the hump, they might not have to brake any of your nasal bones, they could just shave it down. Have a ENT check it out to see if there are any new procedures that have come out to fix the problem. To me, it would make sense to have it lasered off, but I'm not a doctor so......sorry, I know it's hard to have kids pick on you, just try and stay away from them as much as possible. If they don't, report them to your parents and school principal asap. Good luck sweetie...
Question: i have a bump on my nose (dorsal hump) and...............? i was bored so i put a band aid and tape over it.
why does my nose look straighter?
i noticed that the bump is less noticeable with tape on it.
Answer: cuz you created an illusion to trick your eye
but it still is the same :)
if you inject fillers on top of your bump
so it creates a straight line
your nose will look smaller
or bumpless cuz it is
only cuz its tricking you eyes and brain
and no one will realy notice it
at all untill they study you for
like a good hour lol
Question: do you have a dorsal hump? on your nose?
Answer: Yup, from my Greek ancestors, it's a middle-eastern type of trait.
ADDED:
What do you mean thankfully not, Proverbs? You can be thankful and appreciate the unique gifts that you are born with from God but that doesn't mean you should degrade the gifts of others just because they don't have the same gifts as you.
To be honest, I would rather like to keep myself the way I am, an open-minded, appreciative person, rather than being an ignorant person moping around critiquing others.
Question: how can you tell the difference from a male and female flowerhorn rather than the hump? i want to know how do you determine if a flowerhorn is a male or female besides the hump on the males head. Is it true that the female has more color on its dorsal fin than the male?Does the female flowerhorn have a bulge on its heads at all?My friend told me that if you put crushed coral in the tank, it makes the male's hump get bigger. Is that true?
Answer: The best way to sex them is by looking at their vent. You'll have to do a search to see exactly what to look for, one has more of a U shaped, the other more of a V shaped-and it can be difficult to tell, that's why I said to search it and find photos if you can. Sometimes the females will develop a hump, and as far as I knew, usually the males are more colorful-but again, that's not reliable. As far as the crushed coral, never heard that before-doesn't mean it's not correct though. I've noticed my red devil's hump gets larger after water changes.
Question: How does nose shape define geographic orientation? I am of middle eastern & swiss decent....I have always hated my long nose with its HUGE dorsal hump & droopy, bulbus tip. What is the scientific reason as related to climate/geographical region? I mean why do people from Africa have flat, wide noses? Europeans have skinny, upturned noses of various lengths, but middle easterners have these camel hump noses! WHY!!?!?
Answer: Noses are like the radiator in your car...
Flat noses, common to Africans living near the Equator, are designed to bring cool air into the lungs, rapidly!
Long noses from northern, cold climates are designed to warm the cold, winter air, before it enters the lungs!
As far as hooked noses go, perhaps that's just to keep the dust out!
Question: Celebrities with dorsal humps? Does anyone know of any attractive female models/celebrities with dorsal humps ( bump on the bridge of the nose )? I am so self-conscious of my nose, because it has a bump on it! I'm old enough to get plastic surgery, but I don't have the money. For the time being, I'd just like to see some beautiful people with dorsal humps, so I can feel better about myself.
I am absolutely not interested in any reassurance you may want to offer. I just want names or pictures.
Icky Thump: I made it clear that I do not want reassurance.
You shouldn't have responded at all if you had no intention of answering my question. I hope you're aware of the reason the site is called 'Yahoo! Answers'.
Answer: Ok, I think asley tisdale might have one, can't find any pics, and ashly simpson removed hers--sergically.
k heres a link
Question: My big, dorsal humped nose completely makes me self-conscious and lowers my confidence, how do i fix this? I've been made fun of my convex, big dorsal humped nose for years in elementary school and now i'm so self conscious about it, that i don't even realize it. I thought that self-consciousness i had about my nose was over, but i still know for a fact that i'm still extremely conscious about it. I tend to subconciously (when i sense or know i'm being watched from the side) move my hand on my face to cover my nose, or i'll cover my nose with my hair. I've been doing this for years now, and i cant take it anymore, how to stop this? Its affecting my life, education, and social life. When i feel like someones watching me from the side of my face, i'll also tend to look at that person so they can stop, i can't take it anymore, i'm so self-concious about it, sometimes i cant even carry on a good conversation with someone once i feel like someones watching my nose, or i cant listen carefully! How can i finally get over my nose! Please.
Answer: Think Morpheus with the leather overcoat. Not just anyone could look natural in a coat like that but he pulled it off. It's all about style and stage presence.
I recently saw a man working in a store and he had the most magnificent nose. It was big. Had he been self-conscious it would have destroyed him. But he carried it like a Victory banner. His poise was such that nobody would even consider that he wasn't proud of it.
It's not about the nose, it's about the light in your eyes.
Question: can wearing glasses all the time change shape of the nose? Or is the nose already a predispositioned shape because of genetics? I've been wearing glasses all day everyday throughout my teen years and i notice now a dorsal hump growing on my nose. Could my glasses-wearing be causing that? or is it genetic?
Answer: wearing glasses won't alter the bone structure of your nose. The main effect if may have is that it may narrow your nose slightly where the pads sit on either side of the bridge of your nose. However this is only likely if you have especially heavy spectacles and have been wearing them constantly over a period of many years. Unless you are over 30 then wearing glasses as a teen isn't likely to have made any difference to your nose.
What causes the hump depends on if it is bone or cartilage?
Question: is having a bump on your nose acceptable? like my nose is kinda big and i have a dorsal hump, is it ok or does it look horrible? what is your opinion? i want plastic surgery but im too young and my parent probably wont give me the money.
Answer: When I was a kid, there was a family across the street from us. They had two daughters. One was Absolutely beautiful and the other was not. The older one was ten times better looking than her younger sister. They were about 2 years apart. The younger one thought she was pretty because her sister was. But she was not. Even though she was a cheerleader etc. It was horrible.
Question: when does a doctor break the nasal bone during rhinoplasty? im having my plastic surgeon make my nose less projected because its like two inches long, but i dont have a dorsal hump or anything.....What are the chances of him breaking my nasal bone??
Answer: Don't watch a video on it!! That will only freak you out. If you're only going for tip refinement then he should not break your bone. I actually got rhinoplasty this morning (14 hours ago to be exact) but mine was bump reduction on the bridge. I'm on medication but I feel fine! My throat is only very sore from the breathing tube. When you're serious about getting it done, your surgeon will definitely explain his procedure to you. Good luck (and trust me, it's not that bad!).
Question: can a 16 year old still grow into her nose? my whole life i've had a tiny nose. my nose is cute from the front but i have a very slight dorsal hump on the bridge of my nose which makes my nose look huge from the side. i was wondering if there was any possibility that i could still grow into my nose and eventually it would fit my face and make my profile more pleasing without having surgery.
Answer: it's possible since you are still growing
your facial features will change a lot in the next two years
be patient and wait, you have a long life ahead of you
your looks at this age are not as important as education etc.
Question: Are you happy you had Rhinoplasty? I am scheduled to have Rhinoplasty in two weeks. I am very excited and nervous. I feel that this surgery will help me feel more confident in myself. I am having my dorsal hump removed, a graft from my own cartilage used to correct deviated septum, and the angle from my upper lip and nose extended. Any tips for recovery or calming of nerves would be appreciated. Also, wondering if there were any regrets after the surgery? Thanks!
Answer: I had Rhinoplasty 5 weeks ago tomarrow. I had the same questions before my surgery. I had an open Rhinoplasty, removing a dorsal hump, lifted my tip, added a graft, broke it, corrected a deciated septum, and like where your nose starts between your eyes.. like mine was to high or something so he brought it down.. Yeah, he basicly rebuilt my nose. Up until they put me to sleep i had thoughts of backing out but I promise it wasnt that bad.. theres hardly any pain its just sort of uncomfortable because your nose is all swollen and you have all this packing in your nose and bleeding a good bit. But my only advice is get off your pain medicine as soon as possible because your going to need it for your co opp visits.. Take a pill before each visit back to your doctor after your surgery because he will be poking on it and messing with it and aplying pressure.. yea thats probably the worst part.. so save some pain med. But no, i dont regret it. It wasnt a bad experience and I got exactly the look I wanted.
