Question: my dog cant lift her left ear up? i have a dog and she has ears like a blue heeler meaning their pointing straight up but she can only lift one up the other stays floppy and i dont know why this is is it how she was born a deformity please answer so i can take her to the vet as soon as possible and if your thinking why dont you take her to the vet right away its because i dont want to spend money on something that wasnt severe or fatal or something like that please answer soon thank you
Answer: Is she young? A teething puppy's ears will often go up and down and sometimes stay semi-erect for the remainder of their life. They can be taped but if she's a cross breed they could go either way.
Question: my dogs ears go back whenever he sees me? i took my puppy (3 month old chorkie) to the vet yesterday. he did not like the shots but seemed fine when i got him back in the car. last night my daughter was playing with him (she is 3) and i sometimes have to tell her to be gentle. so anyways, he yelped and i called him to me and he came running, when i picked him up, he yelped again and i realized that his leg hurt him, im assuming its from the shots because it was more when i would try to support his butt and because he had no limp or any type of deformity. he started to put his ears back and stick his tail between his legs towards me, and wouldnt come to me and was very skiddish. it was a complete accident tho i was trying to protect him. this morning he seems a little bit better, wagging his tail and following me like he usually does, only when i go to pet him he puts his ears back and runs away. if i do happen to get a hold of him and pet him, his ears are back and he shakes. i feel so bad. i dont know what to do. i just want the loving little pup like i had. any suggestions.
um yes, lets not be immature here.. if you dont have an intelligent answer dont answer.. because im not in here for nonsense, im trying to get opinions on what to do...thx..
and you probably shouldnt be answering questions if you dont kno how to write an answer without starting it off with a question. a chorkie...is a chiuhaua yorkie mix..dont kno how thats so hard to figure out...or possibly google... just a thought
Answer: He could be sore from the shots or he could be sore from playing with your daughter. He's just worried that your touching him will hurt.
If he's not significantly better today, call the vet back. You could call for peace of mind anyway if you like.
For now, don't pick him up. Just let him do what makes him comfortable and let him come to you as much as possible. He should get over the skittishness in a few days if no one pushes him too hard on accepting touching, picking up and petting.
Question: Regular Veterinarian Vs Emergency Veterinarian- What constitutes an emergency? I think e-vets are there for life and limb emergencies, what constitutes an emergency is life and limb? This is a very abbreviated overview of my assessment for life and limb emergencies. Was this a sudden onset or chronic illness, has the condition changed? ABCs - airway, breathing, circulation (signs of difficulty breathing and poor circulation/shock go to e-vet). I then review level of consciousness- neurological signs, are they altered in any way, is their eating, drinking and gait intact? For traumatic injuries I review the above and look at DCAPBTLS; deformity, contusion, abrasions, penetrating wounds, burns, tenderness, lacerations, swelling and judge the severity. What's my general impression, then gather is the dog too much pain of too uncomfortable to wait till morning?
I see this all the time after hours on Y!A. "Get the dog to the vet ASAP". When I read ASAP, I interpret that as an E-Vet but the dog had a bout of diarrhea, maybe some blood in the stool which in my opinion can wait till morning with monitoring. My vet even tried making me schedule my appt 3 days out for my little girl who had a really bad bout of diarrhea, I got them to double book for the next day by saying "it's bad enough she should get checked out sooner", the diarrhea resolved its self before we even got in to the expedited appt with basic home remedies. A single seizure with no other clinical signs IMO is not an emergency, if it's status seizures (multiple seizure or last over 2 minutes) it's an emergency. Is limping really an emergency or can it wait till the AM? Honestly, while there are idiots on here that search the internet when the dog should already be loaded in the car, I also think people kinda jump the gun sending an ear infection or kennel cough to the e-vet...
Let's see... I took my parrot in for bleeding that I couldn't get to stop when he flew into a sharp table corner. Then a 16y/o border collie who radomly showed geriatric vestibular disease before I knew what that was, 3 days later she was put to sleep. Also a 14y/o **** tzu who had a seizure disorder who started having multiple seizure over night. Then I had a young bc who I woulda taken to the evet for a major to bleed, after 3 days of my vet having me treat at home, he had an especially bad night and I brought him in to be admitted, which was an emergency.
Answer: I agree with you.
But then I have had dogs for 20 yrs and know myself more or less what I would call an emergency or not. You sound far more knowledgable than the average dog owner. Especially on here when a lot are young people in their teens.
I guess we are often dealing with people who, if they need to ask on a YA forum then it is difficult to know.
In general though I do agree. I have seen numerous recommendations to get the dog to the vets when I wouldn't be going at all, and certainly not as an emergency on a Sunday afternoon.
Question: My pug may be retarded. Is there any way to find out? I have a pug that is a few months short of being a year old. He is also a few bricks shy of a load.
Because he has deformities I am wondering if he might be retarded. He has a undeveloped ear. When he puts the other one forward it is very noticeable that it is almost half the size of the other. It also feels more like cartilage. His ear canal smaller too. Along with that... he is missing a nipple.
He likes to make obstacle courses for himself with me and my friend's legs and do these circles at least five times. He's also obsessed with the smell of urine. If anyone(including my family, not just the other dogs) is going he has to be very close. He's strange.
I thought he was just a dump puppy for a while, now I am starting to wonder. Is there some tests that I can do to him?
Let me add something.... the only reason why I car is because I am worried that he might need special attention. I never said that I wouldn't love a retarded dog.
Answer: Thats terribly mean.
Physical deformities don't mean the dog is mentally inept.
Express your "retarded" dog concerns to your vet. They'll tell you just what to do.
Ugh.
Question: Am I supposed to feel sorry for someone because of their ugliness? I know a person who has cranio-facial deformities. His mother, from what I'm told, was a heroin junkie during the first couple trimesters. He was born without ears and with only half a nose. His head is compromised with a shrunken skull, and he has very tiny arm and leg bones. But even as distracting as his frail bones are, his face really is the beacon of disaster. It's unendurable to look at his face for more than five seconds.
He's an absolute prick, though. He dresses like someone out of a hip-hop video, and he's always asking me to critique his gold chains and necklaces and earrings. He wears very baggy gangster (West Coast gangster, not mafia) clothes, and his hair is spiked up like a metrosexual. He talks like a drug dealer, using a fake accent he probably learned from MTV. And to boot, he's forever bragging about how superior his car is. (He works at a convenient store, but managed to get a loan for an old Range Rover.)
I'll anticipate your "why do you see him" question: He's hard to avoid. I run into him at a park where I walk my dog. Our encounters are brief but always filled with these exchanges.
Questions:
1) Is this behavior normal for young adults with epic physical deficits?
2) Would it be inappropriate of me to ask this kid not to talk to me anymore?
3) Have you ever met someone who was born with his kind of face? If you did, what were they like?

First answerer:
He has fake ears. They used skin from somewhere on his body, or it's fake skin.

Answer: Usually kids born to heroin addicted mothers are just that themselves, addicted. I doubt the drugs caused these birth defects.
Close your eyes and imagine how f*cked up you might be if you'd gone through life looking as he does. Imagine what elementary school was like, or high school for that matter. Who knows what behavior is normal after you've had that experience. It would be inappropriate to ask the kid not to talk to you. Well, it would be unkind.
Consider the great life you've had, and the potential you were born with. Be gracious.
Question: what are the phsyical differences between a dog and a cat? imagine I was hellen hunt or whatever, totally blind, and partially retarded. How would you describe to me what a cat looked like? How would you describe to me what a dog looked like? What would you tell me the differences between cats and dogs were?
for instance I have noticed that cat noses are generally pink, but can vary with fur color; but a dogs nose is always black.
your differences should hold true in at least 98% of cases, so you couldnt say "well cat ears stand up and dog ears dont" because corgies, german shepards, rotweillers, etc. Please dont tell me that dogs are bigger than cats, I have NO conception of scale or proportions.
that having been said, its totally cool to give me defining traits of both animals, for instance you could totally say "all cats have stand up ears"
here some things you can assume I know. simple shapes(triangle, circle, square), the basic concept of colors(i dont know what red is, but I know its not blue), simple body parts(arms, legs, mouth, tail, etc), concept of basic deformity(squarshed squares or stretched circles)
please be as detailed as possible.
I guess I should add, that Im paralysed from the nose down, so I cant feel or touch, or move. Alls I can do is imagine the things you tell me.
Answer: Lol okay. I think you mean Helen Keller. Helen Hunt is a movie actor. She was in Twister. She'd probably be pretty pissed if she hears wind that she is blind and retarded.
Just go up and touch a dog. and then go hold a cat. Much less complicated! But honestly, I don't know how you would explain that very well. I guess most cats feel like shaggy scarf, and they don't have much of a muzzle like most dogs have. A dog's nose isn't always black. For instance, a lot of pitbulls have pink noses.
Cats meow, dogs bark. Dogs are energetic, cats are generally self absorbed.
Question: A non-surgical aural hematoma treatment for dogs? I read that "cauliflower ear" in dogs is a deformity of the ear that results from an untreated aural hematoma. The fluid-filled swelling of the hematoma becomes firm and thickened over time, resulting in the cauliflower ear. This occurs when blood accumulates within the cartilage layers of the ear. The condition is most common in dogs with long, floppy ears.
I think my Cocker Spaniel has cauliflower ear and l'm hoping there is a natural, non-surgical treatment. Is there a non-surgical aural hematoma treatment for dogs?
PLEASE HELP!
Answer: a aural hematoma is a fluid filled sac on the ear ... once the fluid has been re-absorbed into the ear, scar tissue forms and the ear looks scrunched up and that is cauliflower ear ... if your dog has already got to the point where the ear is scrunched, there is no treatment ... if the dog has a hematoma filled with fluid and is kind of like a squishy blister, you could take the dog to the vet but it would be a surgical treatment ... the vet would drain the fluid and leave a physical drain in the ear so it does not refill and the ear is taped flat to keep the ear flat ... the physical drain is removed once some healing has taken place ... the only non-surgical treatment of a hematoma will result in cauliflower ear ... and if the hematoma is on the tip of the ears and not obstructing the canal, you can just let it heal ... it is not painful for the dog at all ... but do know if you leave a hematoma untreated, if the dog continues to shake his head he could rupture the hematoma and that is not good, it will look like a crime scene with the dog shaking blood all around ... and with a cocker spaniel having furry ears i don't think you would really notice cauliflower ear ...
