DVT
A blood clot, usually originating in the deep veins of the leg; increased risk of DVT after surgery or periods of inactivity
Question: I have a DVT near my left Subclavian artery. What risks do I run when I work my arm to hard and it swells? I have had my DVT for about a month now. I am on warfarin and my INR is about 2.7 or so. My arm still swells when I use to too much. What sort of risks am I running when my arm swells up like this?
Answer: Chronic lymphedema has been linked to an increase risk for developing sarcoma. I take it you will be on warfarin therapy for 6 months? The risk of sarcoma is linked with repeat episodes of lymphodema.
Question: Does a dvt come on gradually or suddenly? I had a dvt last year. I am having similar symptoms of swelling and numbness as i did with my past dvt. However, when i had my dvt last year, i was immobilised. Couldn't walk. Do clots develop & build up gradually or suddenly?
I came off warfarin about 11 weeks ago and was discharged. I'm not on any blood thinner at the moment.
Answer: it's better to go get it checked out. Are you on blood thinners or aspirin? If you're mobile and on medications then the chances are reduced but its still better to rule it out as DVTs can lead to pulmonary embolisms which are deadly. Given your past history, rule it out!!!
Question: I have a coagulation defect that caused DVT. After coumadin therapy, can i get pregnant without complications? I ended up with seven blood clots a week after my son was born. (17 months ago) Now the clots are gone because I was on a coumadin therapy. I'm wondering if there is a possibility of having more complications if my husband and I wanted to have another baby. I'm honestly not worried about getting DVT again, i'm more worried about complications to the baby. Have you found any articles online that relates to this situation other then the factor five leiden?
Answer: You should have this test run: Lupus Anticoagulant disorder. Do some research on this, you will be amazed what you learn about it- and if you have it- you will need to be on coumadin for the rest of your life. I tested positive for it (the title of Lupus is misleading- because it is not related to the Lupas Disease). I would be concerned about getting pregnant with how many blood clots you have gotten (which leads me to think that you are pos. for the Lupus anti..) If you get pregnant and develop another DVT (or more) neither you are your baby may make it- if it turns from the DVT to the PE (Pulmonary Embolism) you both (could) die. Plus, are you still on the coumadin therapy? If so, you cannot become pregnant while on it. It would be deadly to you and to your baby. Remember, coumadin is a form of RAT POISON!! Best wishes and hope you figure out why you got some many DVT's.
Question: How fast can a dvt in the calf area travel to the heart if broken off or small enough to travel? My partner has recently had a dvt in her calf which required hospitalization for 5 days. Her case was only a streak of red going vertically approx 6-7 inches on the inner calf.
Answer: Once formed, it can break off at any time...it's only a matter of moments for it to travel to the heart or lungs. She did the right thing by going to the hospital.
Question: Can DVT show up several days *after* a flight? How long after flying can DVT start to cause problems?
Answer: Yes if its been more than a week its unlikely
Question: How long does it take swelling in leg to go down after DVT diagnosis and warfarin started?
the leg has gone down slightly now that i am on warfarin about 4 weeks but does anyone know just how long it will take before my leg looks like a leg again and not a big tree trunk. I am so fed up with it.
Answer: It can actually take a few days for the Warfarin to work, in the meantime they sometimes give Heparin injections for the first few days. This effect is more or less immediate.
Question: Why does my patient have low RBC with DVT? I am a nursing student and my patient for tomorrow has DVT in L arm. I need to explain the abnormal labs and I can't figure out why the RBC, Hgb, and Hct are all low. Anyone know? Also the neutrophils are higha nd lymphocytes low.
Answer: In determining the cause of this patient's anemia, it would be really helpful to know what the MCV is.
Question: I have recently been diagnosed with dvt should I be resting my leg or up and walking? I am taking injections and have started on warfrin but when I stand and try to walk (hobble) it cause me pain so I have to sit down again. Should I be resting the leg or is it better to be active ?? I am wearing surgical stockings but im unsured what to do for the best. Also I have been taking cocodemol for the pain which has been brilliant. Is this ok?
Answer: If you have been given this diagnosis and the appropriate drugs, why on earth haven't you been told what you can and can't do?
If you are in the UK, ring the NHS Direct helpline for advice. Otherwise, contact your doctor's emergency service and ask them.
Question: How long does it take severe swelling in the legs from a DVT to go away? My sister has a clot in both legs and is on Heparin and Coumadin and also has a "net" like apparatus placed to possibly "catch" a clot should one travel up the vein. Also, how much do these treatments reduce the chance of a pulmonary embolism?
Answer: They all are a good help, but there are no guarantees with blood clots. Finding the cause of the clot is most important, as the can reoccur as well. There are a number of clotting disorders that she should be checked for. I have one type and my mother has a different one. I know many people who still clot on both of these anticoagulants so please do not accept this answer from her Drs.- "You can't clot on these drugs". Here is a link on various clotting disorders.

Question: Do I have to get prescription flight socks if I had DVT? I had DVT a few years ago and now am going on a long haul flight. The doctors say there is no damage and reason for it to happen again. But I am concerned whether I should wear normal flight socks or get the prescription ones that i had before. I will go to the doc this afternoon but just asking if anyone was in the same situ as its expensive to go the docs here.
Answer: You can actually buy compression stockings in the drug store. That may be more economical than trying to get a pair of prescription ones. Also when you're on the flight remember to walk around frequently and do calf and leg exercises to help reduce your risk of developing a dvt.
Question: What are the symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis DVT? How would I know of I had one and what do you do? I am preggers, fat and have a painful leg, I am a complete hypochondriac but would like to rule it out?
Answer: In most cases of DVT, the clots are small and do not cause any symptoms. The body is able to gradually break down the clot and there are no long-term effects.
Larger clots may partially or totally block the blood flow in the vein and cause symptoms such as:
swelling of the calf - this is usually different from the mild ankle swelling that many people get during long haul flights for example
pain in the calf
calf pain that is noticeable, or worse when standing or walking
These are not always a sign of a DVT, but if you experience them, you should seek medical advice.
Question: How soon after and intracranial hemmorage can you start DVT prophylaxis (heparin)?
Answer: your doc should have told you, but I am sure it is immediately
Question: What is the best way to prevent deep vain thrombosis (DVT) on long-haul flights? So, how to avoid getting a blood clot (or clots) which put your life at risk potentially?
Answer: Firstly, check out what risk category you are in, you can look at this by googling DVT risks. Usually things that put you in a higher category include if you smoke, if you are on the pill, if you have had thrombosis or thrombosis is in your family, if you are over 35 etc.
What I tend to do is I take an aspirin prior to flying which was recommended to me by my doctor, however, check though as not everyone is able to take aspirin, also I wear flight socks which are available in most chemists.
When flying, make sure you drink plenty of water to keep yourself re-hydrated, and periodically get up and walk around on the plane. Also, exercise your feet and ankles whilst sitting in your seat. Do this periodically throughout the flight.
If it's been a long flight, I usually will take an aspirin again on the night after landing and do the same on the return journey.
If you need further advice, speak to your doctor or ring the NHS direct (providing you are in the U.K). Also, you will find lots of tips on the internet by googling DVT.
Hope this helps
Question: Anybody have DVT and still get the depo injection? I am trying to find out whether its still advisable to get the depo contraception injections if I had DVT last year. Has anyone been in this situation?
Answer: The simple answer is that you should NEVER, EVER get that shot.
For doctors to support and give this to women is an indication of their complete disregard for your health. I have not found one single doctor that even knows whats in that shot, not one. They are blindly giving this garbage to women on the advice of the drug company that makes it. Simply amazing; ONLY in America.
The manufacturers have NO conscience regarding the problems it is causing. Profit is their only motivation for giving this to you and all others, not your health. The statistics bear this out.

This is not a ?tion but a statement about the bad side effects of the Depo Shot!!!!!!?
I have been off of the depo shot for 8 years. After I first got off the shot about 2 or 3 months later my periods became unfrequent. I would have major cramping and sickness but no blood. Some times I would be 2 weeks late. Other times It could be a full 6 months late. For the last 2 years I have been tring to have a baby. For the last 2 months I have been discharging milk and having cramps so bad I loose my lunch. I would have a lot of pregnancy symptoms only to find out I was just late. I was having faulse pregnancies. The depo I took can take any where from 2 months to 10 years to leave your system till you can get pregnate. In extream cases it can also leave you unfertile. Not to scare you but I found out Im one of thoes extream cases. I was only on the shot for 1 year when I was 16 now Im 22. Because I took it at such a young age I doubt I will ever be able to have a child. If I ever do have a child it will be a miracle on my part. Dont let this happen to you or anyone you know. If you do have a child later and its a girl dont let her ruin her life. Keep her off of birth control. You have no idea how it feels to be so young and know you can never give your loved one the child they deserve. A child to carry on their name. To know you are the last of your line just beacuse the doctors and society told you to be safe and take the shot or pills. Anyone saing diffrent can go to kiss their own butts.

I was on depo provera for a year and I didn't get my period for two and a half years!! My doctor told me after a year that studies have shown that depo provera can cause osteoporosis. I went for a bone density scan and I had a very low bone density My doctor highly recommended I stopped using it. After I stopped using it I had hormonal and ovulation problems. I then went on the pill just to get my normal menstrual cycle back. I had unprotected sex while on depo provera and didn't get pregnant. However my friend who was also on it for a bout two year got pregnant twice!! In my experience I wish I never used it, but I think you should see your doctor... I just found a journal article too about its link to decreased bone density in adolescents.

First of all, you need to RUN not walk from the needle that has the depo provera in it. The shot is extremely dangerous to us women. FDA should be brought down for approving such a horrendous 'medication'.
In 1986, Congress passed the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (PL-99-660) that among other things required healthcare providers to report vaccine reactions to a centralized reporting system. As a result the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) to which parents, physicians and vaccine manufacturers could report adverse events was created. NVIC has assisted many parents in reporting adverse events following vaccination as many doctors refuse to make a report.
IT IS ESTIMATED THAT ONLY 1% - 10% OF ALL DOCTORS REPORT A SEVERE HEALTH PROBLEM THAT OCCURS AFTER A DRUG OR VACCINE IS GIVEN TO A PATIENT. It is simply NOT in their best interest to do so.
To see the VAERS data on people that died from vaccinations. Babies SIDS within 0 to 5 days of being given vaccinations. 3006 deaths reported due to the vaccinations.
http://www.medalerts.org/vaersdb/index.h…
Please understand that drug companies are profit driven, not health driven. Last year, the government paid out $1.5 BILLION dollars to victims of vaccination problems. Each vaccine a drug company, like Merck develops, they get a revenue stream of over $1 Billion dollars for it. Is it anany wonder they have a huge incentive to convince you and others that it's a good thing?
Go to the following web site and view this free DVD put together to inform the public of the status of vaccinations:

good luck to you
Question: How to cure DVT (Deep-vein thrombosis)... Is there any fruits or herbs to increase the blood counts?
Answer: a blood thinner like lovenox, heparin, or oral coumadin helps with DVT since we're trying to get the platelets slippery and not sticking causing a clot.
Question: Will taking prescription Levothroid put me at risk to develop another DVT? I just found out today that I have hypothyroidism. My doctor gave me Levothroid, 0.05mg. I have history of deep vein thrombosis (blood clot in the leg), and it says on the warning label to tell your doctor if you have history of blood clots. My doctor knows my history. Just trying to double check.
Answer: It isn't mentioned in any of the information online.
It might be in reference to it's interaction with blood-thinning drugs such as Coumadin and heparin.
And...
Exercise caution when administering Levothyroxine to patients with cardiovascular or clotting disorders becauise the dose of medications used to control these other conditions may need to be adjusted.
I am sure your doctor will have taken your DVT medication (if any) into account.
Why not speak to his office or the local pharmacist if you are still worried?
Question: Do airlines have a policy for travelers that may have a inherited blood clotting disorder that can cause dvt? The disorder of “Economy Class Syndrome” or “Traveler’s Thrombosis” has been apparent for some time. So do airlines grant a person with a predisposition to this disorder special circumstance, or do they just don't care?
Answer: Nope but.........The British Heart Foundation advises passengers on a flight of more than two hours to walk about at regular intervals to diminish the risk of a blood clot in the legs.
It also advises passengers to drink plenty of water and avoid excessive amounts of alcohol......
Question: I had DVT in Aug 07 for second time due to a flight to LA from OH? I had DVT in Aug 07 for second time due to a flight to LA from OH, but I wasn't on COumadin I am NOW on coumadin 6 mg and I have to keep an INR of 2-3. I would like to take a trip from OH to AZ, would this be a safe trip for me!
Answer: Just to clarify, airline travel doesn't cause DVT. DVT occurs in people who are already predisposed to it for some reason (temporarily or permanently). While the extended immobility and dehydration of air travel can aggravate the predisposing conditions that make DVT more likely, the travel in itself won't do this in people who are otherwise healthy.
Additionally, the risk applies equally to any situation in which one remains immobile for long periods, including air travel, car travel, bus travel, train travel, and even sitting at home in a recliner.
That said, your own risk should be assessed by your physician, if you have a history of DVT. He will be able to advise you based on your history, your current treatment, and his clinical evaluations. It certainly wouldn't hurt to give him a call before the trip.
Question: How common does a DVT/Leg blood clot occur during flight? I have a 3 1/2 hour flight in a few weeks and am worried about this. Is it common? I don't have any medical issues. Just kind of paranoid
Thanks
Answer: By the time your flight comes around your DVT/leg blood clot might already be gone. Even if it's not make sure to get an aisle seat, take your shoes off during the flight and put some very comfortable slippers on. During any flight your legs will get edema-nous. To prevent this make sure you don't drink any alcohol, or eat anything with salt on it. Also if you're not in first class ask for a seat right behind the bulkhead when you make your make your reservations letting them know you need the space for your feet, This way you'll already have your seat reserved for you. The clot should already be gone hopefully by then. Good luck why your mom always told you to keep your feet up. Good luck and God Bless
Question: What doctor ( specialist ) should i go if I have DVT - deep vein thrombosis? I'm on coumadin and i go to an anticogulant clinic, but i feel she doesn't really know much about my problem.
Answer: Cardiologist.
