Comedone
A hair follicle filled with keratin and sebum: Closed comedone- whitehead; Open comedone blackhead
Question: How to use a comedone extractor (blackhead remover)? I bought this comedone extractor and I followed the instructions on how to use it... it worked well... but the problem is that i may have been a bit too aggressive and now my nose is burning alittle... and I would like it if someone could provide me with a link on how to use it properly.. thanks
I also wanted to ask... will it increase the amount of blackheads
Answer: It's best to use a comedome extractor on blackheads around your face; like cheeks or something, For your nose, use a blackhead strip remover. it's much easier
Question: Need care for Miniature Schnauzer with Comedone Syndrome? 12 yr old female, itches all the time. Wife shampoos her twice a week with special shampoo, tried prescriptions from Vet, keep hair on back short, nothing helps. Anyone know of what might work?
Answer: I know with my two, I cannot feed them any people food, except for fruits and veggies. This helps with the allergies. Also, I add a fish oil capsule to the food once a day....just poke the capsule and squeeze it over the food. The omega oils will help with the dry skin. I watched a friend of mine's small little dog while she was out of town, and did this. Within a day or two, the little dog had quit scratching. Good luck.
Question: Comedone extractor leaves red marks? I used a comedone extractor a few hours ago and it effectively got rid of several blackheads easily. However, now I have small red marks on my chin. They aren't indentations from the tool or broken capillaries - just slight red marks. Do these go away soon?
Answer: They should go away over the next several days.
Question: How do I keep my pores unblocked on my chin? My chin area is where I get a lot of whiteheads and they are so stubborn to remove. I have a comedone extractor now and found I got out quite alot, the area is abit red and are in the habit of covering up daily with makeup. If i apply makeup will it clog back up my pores?
Answer: make up tends to clogs pores really bad , when you don't need to be wearing any make up take it off ! when you get home from school ; wash off your make up / if you play sports and you sweat the more you will break out . or chin zits are mostly from having your phone rest there when you talk , the sweat clogs up and clogs your pores . so just make sure you keep your phone up ! (:
Question: How do I know if a clogged pore is fully disappeared? I've been using a comedone extractor to get rid of some whiteheads/clogged pores. When I press, stuff comes out...but how do I know for sure that everything is out? i don't want it refilling. Thanks!
Answer: You don't know for sure, and that is not a good way to treat them. Keep you skin clean. Have a look here. They have dozens of recipes for homemade skin care products. You will find several that could help you with this. One thing you could try is a simple dermabrasion. Mix a little sugar with some olive oil and rub it into your face. It should help.

Question: Comedone extractor - good or bad idea? I just purchaced a comedone extractor because I have some obvious blackheads on my chin and some reoccuring white clogged pores. I used the tool after my shower, and several of the blackheads came out relatively easily. However, now I have small red marks on my skin. I didn't break the skin or press too hard in my opinion...the capillaries aren't broken either. Will these red marks fade?
In general, would you recommend this tool? I also have ziana gel (like retin-a), but it is a bit harsh. Is this a better option?
Any opinions are welcome!
Answer: Those red marks will fade. Make sure you keep your fingers away from them so that you do not introduce bacteria. I would not recommend the extractor. Too much chance of additional infection and scarring.
Question: Mario Badescu Drying Lotion Any Good (& Whitehead Comedone)? I have lots of little whitehead comedone on my face; cheeks, chin/jawline, and forehead..
How do I get rid of them? I don't get any other sort of pimples just comedone's, it's so annoying!
Would the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion work? Cause it says it's for whiteheads and pimples but does this mean pimples with the whitehead or whitehead comedone's?
Thanks x
Answer: Nothing unless it's an Rx from your MD or dermatologist will work for this particular skin condition.
I know what you're describing and only a doctor can get you a prescription Rx for that. Hope this helps
Question: Comedone extraction on back that led to an infection~? I removed an impacted blackhead from my girlfriends back. It got infected after.
What should she do now? I feel bad because I did not cover it with a bandage after that must have lead to the infection.
so, now she said it was the size of a golfball and she popped it and white stuff and then blood came out. Shes trying to get more out but its on her back and has no one there to help her...will anitbiotic cream help?
Did this turn into a boil, cyst or staph infection?
Answer: Any one can get an infection from squeezing pimples because squeezing drives the infection deeper into the tissues. And, almost everyone squeezes pimples - you just take your chances that none become infected and if they do, you see your doctor and get an antibiotic. Applying a drying cream such as any pimple cream will eventually dry this up and it will go away. If it continues to get larger and larger, then she will have to see her doctor. Most of these will clear up with the use of any pimple treatment.
Question: Comedone Extractor problem? I've been using this to remove the blackheads from my nose , and it works very efficiently . Then after I use a biore pore strip and put it on my nose to remove other blackheads , and to prevent more blackheads from appearing on my nose . After doing this procedure, about two days, my nose starts to peel a little , and if you look close enough on my nose , you can see the streaks the extractor left behind on my nose . Is there a way I can prevent this from happening everytime I remove my blackheads ? And about after a week the blackheads return . Is there a way I can prevent future blackheads appearing on my nose ?
Thanks :)
Answer: You're pressing too hard with the extractor. The "gunk" should come out effortlessly with gentle pressure from the extractor. If you are having to really force them out, you're going to damage your skin and create those little streaks, which could turn into scars.
So to help the blackheads come out easier, you need to "open" your pores. To do this, you need steam. It is all about warm/hot water and letting the steam open your pores. If you take hot enough showers to where your bathroom is just a cloud of steam, do it right when you get out of the shower.
Or, you could boil some hot water and place it in a big bowl. Hold your face over the bowl (not so close so you don't get burned), and wrap a towel around the back of your head so it traps the steam inside where your face is.
Blackheads will come out much easier using less pressure. Also, don't slide the extractor over the skin as much. It's really suppose to be a "pressing" method. If you slide it, you're sliding all the "gunk" back into the pores AND destroying the skin, which is probably why you are peeling.
Remember, always sanitize your extractor and only use on clean skin with pores open. When you are done with extracting and biore strips, rinse your face with cold water (cold water will shrink the pores back up).
Question: Tried using a comedone extractor on my white heads, but it doesn't work? I tried to pierce it with the lancet..and then use the loop to take the material out..but the material won't come out...am I doing something wrong? I did steam my face before extracting. Now the whiteheads are red.....>_> by the way...they aren't really big whiteheads...just about the size of the tip of a pen...thanks =)
Is there alternatives to try to remove these pesky whiteheads that won't come off by themselves?!?!
For those of you who don't know, a comedone extractor is a tool specially designed to remove blackheads and whiteheads, with a loop and a sharp end. =)
Answer: Trying to burst them can scar your skin, my daughter started washing her face with "Oil Free Acne Wash" by Nutragena. She's been using this for a long time now and its working, her face is smooth now. Other than that I would suggest seeing a dermotologist.
Question: Great Solution to Comedone/Whitehead Problem...NO AD!!? I FINALLY found a great solution to annoying whiteheads/blackheads....so I had to share it!!! (try at your own risk though)
here's the deal...
I started getting whiteheads on my cheeks....so I consulted with my physician. She advised me to do the following:
1) clean my face TWICE/DAY with REGULAR soap like lever (no cleansers/toners & other ****)...AVOID soaps with too much glycerin like dv. & all....COMPLETELY forget about cold creams & other oily stuff you put on your face before going to bed!
2) in the morning...NOT before going to bed...use Cetaphil non-comedogenic lotion ONLY!
i did this for a week....it worked AMAZING...
touch wood!
Answer: I've used Cetaphil and it's supposed to be very good.

Question: Hi.I am new member.Could you haelp me to find treatment for blackhead? Please? I have black head for so long .I used nosr strip but it desnt work.I will be so please if everyone can share your knowlegle.Where can I have it done? How muckh will it cost. Will it gone completely, and is it comedone treatment.thanku
Answer: In the Body Shop I got a black head remover. It was a few years ago but they (or Boots) probably still stock them. It was only about £2 and it's a metal rod with a tiny hole in it. You push the hole onto the black head and it squeezes all of the black gunk out.
Cheap, painless and very effective.
Question: do dermatologists give facials? my derm does the following :
Chemical peel,Comedone extraction
the rest of their services are for cosmetic purposes (botox etc.)
and i have acne, which is why im visiting the derm.
Answer: Most dermatologists have esthetician that work for them and do many of those things you listed. They may even be better then the dermatologist since those are things they are trained to do at beautician school.
Question: Help with blackheads, this thing i bough hurts? i bough a "comedone" tool today 2 remove the blackheads n my nose. ive never really tryed 2 remove them b4. but this tool hurts and seems not 2 be working. pressing down firmily and moving a little but nothing is coming out? am i doing something wrong? or not doing something?
Answer: Please stop doing that thing, your just making it worst and damaging your skin layer in your nose.
I have acne in my face all over, but that was before. After I used Master papaya, i dont know if you do have that product in you country, it was really effective and really gentle. I used it thrice a day. Every time I washed my face, I rubbed it deeply in 2 minutes. And I used to rinse it by using a flowing cold water from the faucet, and wipe it with a clean towel. note: be careful in wiping a towel, use a soft a very soft towel, to absorb all the water in your face.
the effect will appear after you use it. And you will see the result after 3 to 4 days.
EFFECTS:
1. It reduces the oil in my face.
2. vanished my acnes,whiteheads.
3. makes your face feel brighter and fair.
4. my friends feels that I'm newly painted. hehe.. sounds weird.. try it.

Question: Help me.....(Regarding whiteheads...)? Is there any cure for whiteheads(Comedone)? Other than light treatment..? I gt whiteheads..But I am nt that rich for light treatment...>_< Can recomend me a product that helps to treat whitehead? :) thankx
Answer: illusio !
First thing you should do to your skin is drinking lots of water, which removes the toxins from the skin and keeps whiteheads at bay.
Wash off your face with mild cleansers and use mild scrubbers on your skin at least thrice a week. If you apply scrubbers on the skin after taking mild steam in the skin, they go off sooner as it softens the skin and opens up the pores. But always apply skin toner after cleaning the skin to close the pores. You can even rub an ice cube on the skin wrapped in a cotton cloth to block the pored after steaming.
Use creams and gels, which contain alpha Hydroxyl fruit acids. They help in unclogging the pores to remove the whiteheads.
Never squeeze or forcibly remove the whiteheads otherwise you will get a scar or skin infection. Take professional help if the problem cannot be tackled by you.
Apply homemade scrubbers made by fruit peels. Dry orange peels in the sun and make a powder of them by grinding them. Add rosewater and milk cream to this powder and apply on the skin. Wash it off while rubbing it in the wrong direction when it's half dried. It will make the skin clear, smooth and will remove the whiteheads.
Rubbing lemon peel on the skin helps in reducing whiteheads. Use medicated soaps and cleansers on the skin and apply oil free moisturizers.
Drink fresh fruit juices and drink a glass of warm water with some lemon juice into it first thing in the morning. It helps in detoxifying the skin.
Soak almonds in the water overnight, in the morning grind them and make a paste. Add honey to it and massage it on the face for few minutes. Leave it on the skin for 5-10 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water. It cleans away the white heads to some extent.

Question: Did the dermatologist I went to give me bad advice and prescriptions..? OK So i went to the dermatologist because I have some hyperpigmentation spots left over from old zits, which are a lot darker than my normal skin tone is. I also have mild acne- nothing major, just some "closed comedone" pores the aesthetician extracted.
So to prevent breakouts AND treat the pigmentation, he prescribed me a .1% differin cream and a 4% hydroquinone cream for nighttime, along with a 1% clindamycin lotion for the morning. The weird thing is, he told me to mix a pea-size drop of the hydroquinone and the differin together every night and apply that mixture ALL OVER my face. And from what I've read online, hydroquinone should only be spot-applied to the dark spots, and NOT applied all over- or your entire skin will get bleached out. But that is exactly what he told me to do-- he even stressed the point that hydroquinone cream only works when you apply it all over, even where there are no dark spots! I only have a few spots; it's not like my entire face is covered in pigmented spots.
So now I'm confused- do I follow the derm's instructions and mix the differin and hydroqionone, or is that just a bunch of crap? Everything I've found on the subject says to wash your face, apply differin all over, then SPOT APPLY hydroquinone and follow with moisturizer. So... what should I do? I don't want my skin to get bleached out!!!
Answer: Well i would call or see your doctor again to verify the instructions, and tell him about the research you have done and your concerns. I am sure he will be able to give you a explanation as to his reasoning. I would follow your doctor's instructions over what you read online.

Question: Does anyone have any tricks to reduce the size/appearance of a cold sore quickly? Also: swelling solutions? I am a seventeen-year-old female suffering from my first cold sore. I contracted this from my mother (who has had cold sores since she was a child), probably from toothpaste or chapstick or accidentally drinking after each other - so, please, no vulgar comments. I've been sick all week, which explains why this vicious little virus chose now to attack. When it first formed (Tuesday), I mistook the two red spots for acne (it is not uncommon for me to have small blemishes along my lip line, particularly some rather stubborn blackheads) and tried to take care of them with a comedone extractor. I was successful in popping the two "pimples" and they receded for a while before swelling up again (Wednesday) and forming into one large bump with two distinct spots on it from the original sores (Thursday). I thought the spot was infected and on Thursday night tried to take care of the problem. After getting home from school, I cleaned my makeup off with baby wipes and examined the spot. It was red, hot and painful to touch - classic signs of infection. I pressed on it a little, trying to extract any pus I could and relieve some of the pressure beneath the surface. I only succeeded in producing a clear fluid from one of the spots/scabs, which I removed with a wipe before backing off. I left it alone for several hours before making a saltwater compress before bed. I covered the spot for a good fifteen minutes or so before realizing it was having no effect and that I definitely wasn't dealing with acne. I informed my mother of this, who told me to use her cold sore medicine (Denavir). I applied the medicine with a Q-Tip and went to bed. This morning I woke up to a HUGE sore - which is now spilling onto my lip instead of just sitting above it - and moderate swelling. My mother insists that it was the saltwater compress that irritated it - which is probably true, but at this point I don't care what made it look this way I just want it gone. It is painful and itchy and terrible to look at. I stayed home today so my classmates wouldn't see me and assume the worst, but tomorrow there is a charity event at which I am already committed to volunteer. Is there any possible way I can make it less noticeable by tomorrow or at the very least Monday? I'm not expecting a cure, but there must be some way to speed along the healing process at least a bit. Even just getting a handle on the swelling would be helpful (though, if your only advice is "ice," please don't bother - I'm already aware). Almost anything would be an improvement at this point. Thank you so much!
Here is the cold sore as it looks currently (sorry for the poor quality, these were taken with my iPhone - the second one is slightly better than the first):

Question: Face skincare questions? Hello everyone! I have a few questions regarding facial skincare and I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could please answer them:)
Okay, so here is the thing. I have acne prone skin with only a few breakouts at a time, not ever that many. However, since I am on a few face medications prescribed to me, my skin gets dried out very easily. I do apply face moisturizer from Neutrogena for Combination Skin because my skin tends to be oily and dry. I apply it morning and night. In the morning I wash my face first, then put face medication on and let it sit for a few mins, and then moisturizer. At night I wash my face, let it dry, apply face meds, let them sit, and then I apply my oil free moisturizer. As I said earlier, my skin is pretty clear except for a few breakouts(as everyone would get). When I breakout, a lot of the time I get whiteheads. Plus, due to my face medications I have, my face tends to get dry and flaky really easily. Lately it has been doing pretty good with not being flaky dry(because I use a buff puff morning and night), but it feels tight, like I cannot move my face as much. I know some people may say to stop the face medications, but I honestly need and depend on it.
So my questions are:
1)Should I be using an exfoliator on my face once a week in order to remove the flaky skin? If so, which one would you recommend for sensitive skin that has the tendency to get dry?I have heard some exfoliators make your face dry, and I obviously wouldn't want that. I also hear they make you break out, and I certainly don't want that, lol.
2)Is there a way I can prevent whiteheads?I really don't like them(who does) or that they form sometimes within hours during the day and it is embarrassing. I do use a comedone extractor from Sephora.
3) Is there a way I can make my face less tight?
Plus, I also recently started taking a multivitamin to help my skin, so hopefully that will help. I'm sorry for the long message!Thank you guys for reading through it, and I would really appreciate it if anyone could answer at least some of my questions. Thank you:)
Plus, I also drink a lot of water everyday.
Answer: I've never tried acne products. NEVER. For one thing, I don't want to poison my skin. Soap (liquid or bar) had always been the original and ONLY solution, and I've known about this from my uncle who was a nurse, and my aunt who was also a nurse. From reading magazines (Women's Day, Ladies' Home Journal, Good Housekeeping NOT fashion mags), who try to educate people and why the beauty industry is a billion dollar business.
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath wash like Suave Bath & Body wash in the shower, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.
The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.
Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around. Example: ProActiv contains a known carcinogen, at a percentage known to promote skin cancer.
Smoking has been shown to make acne worse since it diminishes the delivery of oxygen to the skin and robs it of nutrients, thereby inhibiting cars from healing. Not enough reason to quit? Smoke depletes moisture, making skin lose its luster and look wrinkly.
The beauty industry is a billion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!
The FDA has called for more safety studies on benzoyl peroxide because of concern about what happens when skin treated with it is exposed to the sun. Until research can establish or disprove a possible skin cancer link to the use of benzoyl peroxide products, the agency plans to require an extra warning and directions on the labeling: "When using this product, avoid unnecessary sun exposure and use sunscreen." and "If going outside, use a sunscreen. Allow [product name] to dry, then follow directions in the sunscreen labeling. If irritation or sensitivity develops, discontinue use of both products and consult a doctor."

I get one tiny zit a month or none. I have very clear, soft & silky complexion and I'm 60 years old, same as when I was in HS. I've been protecting my skin from the sun, from products since I was 9.
