Closed Rhinoplasty
Surgery of the nose without any visible external incisions
Question: Has anyone had a closed rhinoplasty done (nose job)? Has anyone had a rhinoplasty (closed procedure without breaking the bone)? Dis u have alot of swelling underneath ur eyes and any more info?
Answer: never had one done but it will cause swelling and probably some bruising, you will not want to go out in public for a while from what I have seen
Question: Can you go on rollercoasters after having a closed rhinoplasty 14 weeks ago? I am planning to go to Disney World this weekend and I was wondering if I could ride tower of terror and the other rollercoasters that Disney World has.
Answer: I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. Though it takes more than 14 weeks to heal, you should be fine going on roller coasters. I would call your doctor just to make sure, but I think you'll be fine. Even if you weren't supposed to, wouldn't you go on one anyway?? Lol. Good luck and have fun at Disney World =D
Question: What does 'closed rhinoplasty' mean? I know open rhinoplasty involves opening up the nose from the bottom but what is closed rhinoplasty? What are the pros and cons of a closed rhinoplasty vs open?
Answer: Apparently in closed rhinoplasty incisions are made inside the nose.
Question: just had closed rhinoplasty...SCARED!!!? i just had a closed rhinoplasty 5 days ago... i used to have a large nose with a little hump...i still have the packings up my nose. the problem is that i'm scared of what it is going to look, right now, the tip is pointing upwards (which i hate!!!!!!) but i'm hoping it is due to the packings that are "pushing up" my nose, is this the case? i not sure if i'm explaining myself very clear, i'm sorry i'm just so worried...will my nose "settle down" after the packings are removed??? i don't want to look like a cartoon character with a tiny nose pointing upwards with my nostrils showing.....what is happening???
Answer: You will have some swelling for a while after the packing is removed, it may be several weeks before true results are known. If you aren't happy be sure to let the surgeon know.
Question: what is the difference between open rhinoplasty & closed rhinoplasty procedures??
Answer: The difference is whether or not they open your nose up.
Question: I had a closed rhinoplasty last week the cast is not yet removed but I see that one nostril became bigger? It wasn't this big ever in fact my nostrils looked equally the same in my old pics! I should mention that the Doctor had made an incision inside one nostril (the big one now) could it be just puffed up by the cut? I barely breathe through the other one too!!!! I'm worried!
It's been 10 days since my Rhinoplasty surgery. My face isn't swallen any more and the bruises are completley gone.
Answer: Don't worry,it is probably just swollen. Just mention it is to surgeon when you go to get the cast off.
That's the problem with surgery, it doesn't always work out perfect. I had a Rhinoplasty 4 years ago and i wish i hadn't bothered because i preferred my nose before.
Question: Still swollen after rhinoplasty? I had a closed rhinoplasty done about 4 weeks ago. When the cast came off, it looked perfect. Now, the nose just seems as big as before. How long will it take for all the swelling to go down, if thats what it is?
Answer: You should probably discuss this with your doctor. You definitely don't want this to be an infection.
Question: How long does it take to recover from a nose job? If i have a closed rhinoplasty, how long would it take for the swelling to go down so i can be able to go out? and would it leave any visible scars?
Answer: a couple of weeks for the swelling to go down, mayne 2-3 months for it to actually heel. i need a nose job i so dislike my no, its so big =(
Question: What's the best way to find the right plastic surgeon for rhinoplasty? I'm in the Austin, TX area and am about to start my search for a plastic surgeon for rhinoplasty. My friend who also had this procedure said I need to go to L.A. to get the best surgeon because they do plastic surgery procedures like a million times a day so they're the best/most experienced and practiced. But that would require a LOT of traveling hassles and I don't even know how to start looking/screening for the "right doctor", and trying to have this done in L.A. would just add to my confusion. Do I really need to go to L.A. to feel comfortable that I'm in the best hands, or are there doctors in the Austin area, or even Dallas or San Antonio (yes, that would involve traveling too but it's closer than California!) that are just as distinguished and on "that level"? Any advice on how to filter through doctors, what questions to ask, how to find the doctor who's right for me, etc.....pretty much any advice on this whole process would be great. Thank you!
Answer: Austin is pretty big i'm sure their is an experienced plastic surgeon their. Look in the phone book for plastic surgeons in your area. Call a couple up and see if they will let you meet some passed clients and see how their experiences are. I find it ironic they call a nose job rhinoplasty. Becuase you know the size of a rhinos nose.
Question: Rhinoplasty; Swelling, Results -- I look different.. HELP!? Hi guys,
about 2 weeks ago, i had a closed rhinoplasty. my cast was removed about 3 days ago, and my nose is swollen, fat around the tip (seems to look really short and button like), and my smile is even different because my upper lip looks numb and pinched to my nose.. it looks nothing like the pictures my doc and i had planned, and i don't feel like being around anyone since i look like an animal -- piggish, i'd say. my bf keeps telling me to let it settle (as did the doc), and that it's just really swollen. he keeps saying (again like the doc..) that we're on the right track and that it'll look fine ..but i don't see any improvement since the cast has been taken off! i know swelling is s'pose to last, but i'm worried that i may have made a mistake since it's hugee, and i don't want anyone to think i looked better before -- help! has anyone had a closed rhinoplasty before..? how did your nose look after..? does it look like what you and your doc planned now..? how long was it until the swelling of the nose reduced and you began to see parts of the results..? i could really use some feedback -- i'm freaking out!
Answer: I had reduction mammoplasty done about two years ago.. at first I thought my chest looks scary and ugly like a Frankenstein creation!! I am happy to tell you the swelling went down, my stitches healed & now I love my beautiful "girls" ! :) I know it's a different situation, but I hope my experience helps you!
Question: Will just one cigarette affect healing from minor surgery? I'm getting minor surgery (closed rhinoplasty) done in a week and yesterday I smoked a cigarette without thinking. I quit completely 2 weeks before the date of the operation (I never smoked very much anyway, like 1 a day), and this cigarette yesterday is the one time I've slipped up. Will that have a severe affect on my recovery? I'm getting worried...
I'm 18 and otherwise healthy.
Apparently it decreases oxygen in the blood, making healing slower?
Answer: Sally, be serious. No, it will not have an impact. Take fish oil pills everyday though, they help everything in your body be well.
Question: just had rhinoplasty....WORRIED!!!? i just had a closed rhinoplasty 5 days ago... i used to have a large nose with a little hump...i still have the packings up my nose. the problem is that i'm scared of what it is going to look, right now, the tip is pointing upwards (which i hate!!!!!!) but i'm hoping it is due to the packings that are "pushing up" my nose, is this the case? i not sure if i'm explaining myself very clear, i'm sorry i'm just so worried...will my nose "settle down" after the packings are removed??? i don't want to look like a cartoon character with a tiny nose pointing upwards with my nostrils showing.....what is happening???
Answer: It's got to be from the packing and being swollen. I bet it will be fine.
Question: Getting a nose piercing after a rhinoplasty? I just got a septoplasty/rhinoplasty in April and I'm going abroad in July and wanted a change.
So I was thinking of getting my nose pierced, is this a stupid/unsafe idea?
My rhinoplasty was extremely minor, the doc. only added cartilage and didn't touch the tip.
Has anyone done this?
Oh and do nose piercings close up once you take the piercing out?
Answer: I only know about the piercing part.
If you leave the piercing in for a while (6 months) then take it out, it wont close up in a day or anything, however if you only have it done for lets say 2 - 3 months, and you take it out for a week, you wont be able to get it back through despite still seeing the hole.
It will eventually close up just like any piercing if not left in for long enough.
^_^
Question: Does the rhinoplasty surgeon have to open your nose for cartilage craft or can they do it as a close surgery?
Answer: Cosmetic Rhinoplasty is performed by either an "open" or "closed" technique. A very skilful surgeon would choose Closed technique.
Question: Rhinoplasty for someone born with cleft palate? I was born with a cleft palate and lip. I had the necessary procedure done to close up the lip and palate when i was younger. Lately I've been thinking about getting rhinoplasty. Its not something Im just going to jump into (Im actually trying to save up the money first, which will only hopefully take a couple of years). But I just want to hear from others who were born with the condition. who have had reconstruction surgery. I was just wondering what the experience was and how much of a difference the surgery made?/
Answer: Hi Vanessa. My son was born with a cleft lip, and although they had a wee "play" with his nose, he may wish to have rhinoplasty later on. I would check with your cleft team, as your costs may still be covered depending on your age.
Rhinoplasty is generally very successful - your surgeon will be able to show you before and after photos. You may find some on www.widesmiles.org as well. Good luck.
Question: Can anyone who has under gone a rhinoplasty (or a dr) tell me how long i must wait until i can do these things -kiss
-ride normal theme park rides (i.e. a faris wheel)
-ride rollar coasters
-swim (keeping my head above water)
my doctor gave me a list but it does not cover these things
and his office is closed today so i left a message but i want to know about kissing and regular theme park rides today
the rest aren't that important i just thought i would add them since i was asking anyways
my procedure was 10 days ago
Answer: I'm no doctor, so I'm only answering as someone who had a rhinoplasty. First of all the term rhinoplasty is very general and each surgery would be unique to each person, so that also makes it hard to respond, but here goes:
I can't see why kissing would be a problem at all. At worst you might feel a bit of pain should you bump noses in the process.
The Ferris Wheel ought to be safe, and depending upon how many weeks ago your surgery was, the coasters could be okay too. You didn't mention how many weeks ago it was. I would hope it was at least 2. Anything after 6 ought to be good.
And, swimming should be fine, but I DEFINITELY wouldn't put my head under water yet.
I'm basing this more on my experience, not knowing the details of yours.
Question: What is the Cost of Rhinoplasy? I specifically need to know the cost to have a dorsal bone, or a hump, removed. Also, would this be closed or open rhinoplasty?
Answer: Rhinoplasty surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Tour2india4health Consultants .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.
Tour2india4health Consultants is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
Question: Can you sue a plastic surgeon after a bad Rhinoplasty? I had nose surgery close to 11 months ago and it came out uneven. Its not very obvious at first but you can still tell. I have had people tell me that my left side looks wide. I denied this to myself hoping that it will go away but it hasnt. When I touch it I feel a bony protusion there. The surgeon is board certified and overall a good one. I told him about it and he says it will go away meanwhile i went to another surgeon for advice and he says it wont. He says all the swelling is down. I left my doctors office agreeing to come back in 5 mos but i know it wont go away. I feel that the doctor should take blame or be responsible and offer me methods towards this. And the funny thing is that i had to go up personally to make a follow up appointment bcause they would deny me one on the phone. Does any one know what to do? like can i sue him? or does he have to offer revision surgery for free? please any answers?? thanks
Answer: u probably signed a waiver

Good bye hideous nose !
Answer: Before rhinoplasty, you may need to:
Avoid certain medications. Avoid medications containing aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) for two weeks before and after surgery. These medications may increase bleeding. Take only those medications approved or prescribed by your surgeon.
If you smoke, stop smoking. Smoking slows the healing process after surgery.
Make arrangements for the day of the surgery. For the first 24 hours after sedation, you may have lapses of memory, slowed reaction time and impaired judgment. Therefore, arrange for someone to drive you home if you're having an outpatient procedure. Also, arrange for a family or friend to stay with you a night or two to help with personal care tasks as your recover from surgery.
Rhinoplasty is usually done inside the nose. The surgeon readjusts the bone and cartilage underneath the skin. The surgeon usually makes cuts inside the nostrils. Sometimes he or she makes cuts in the septum between the nostrils. Then the surgeon separates the skin from the underlying bone or cartilage and mucous membranes, and follows a series of steps to cut, trim or build up (augment) the nasal bone or cartilage.
The surgeon can augment the nasal bone or cartilage in several ways, depending on how much needs to be added, the structure of the nose and available materials. For small changes, the surgeon may use cartilage harvested from deeper inside the nose or from the ear. For larger requirements, the surgeon can use implants or bone grafting. Bone grafting is a procedure in which bone material (the graft) is inserted into another bone (the host bone) to enhance the host bone.
Rhinoplasty requires local or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the surgery and your surgeon's preferences. Discuss with your doctor beforehand which kind of anesthesia is best in your case.
Local anesthesia. This type of anesthesia is usually used in an outpatient setting and is limited to a specific area of your body. Your doctor injects the pain-numbing medication into your nasal tissues and sedates you with medication injected through an intravenous (IV) line. This makes you groggy but not fully asleep.
General anesthesia. You receive this type of anesthesia by inhaling it or through an IV line — a catheter placed in a vein in your hand, neck or chest. General anesthesia affects your entire body and induces a temporary state of unconsciousness.
After the surgery, you will be in a recovery room, where the staff monitors you for any complications. You might leave later that day or, if the procedure is done in a hospital, you might stay overnight.
After the procedure
After the surgery you need to rest in bed with your head raised higher than your chest, to reduce bleeding and swelling. Your nose may be congested because of swelling or from the cotton packed inside your nose during surgery. In most cases, the dressings remain in place for one to seven days after surgery. Your doctor also tapes a splint or plaster cast to your nose for protection and support. It's usually in place for about one week.
Slight bleeding and drainage of mucus and old blood are common for a few days after the procedure or after removing the dressing. Your doctor may place a "drip pad" — a small piece of gauze held in place with tape — under your nose to absorb drainage. Change the gauze as directed by your doctor.
To further decrease the chances of bleeding and swelling, your doctor may ask that you follow these precautions for several weeks after surgery:
Avoid strenuous activities such as aerobics and jogging.
Don't swim.
Don't blow your nose.
Avoid foods that require heavy chewing.
Avoid large facial expressions, such as smiling or laughing.
Brush your teeth gently to limit movement of your upper lip.
Wear clothes that fasten in the front; don't pull clothing, such as shirts or sweaters, over your head.
I
n addition, don't rest eyeglasses or sunglasses on your nose for at least four weeks after the surgery, to prevent pressure on your nose. You can use cheek rests, or tape the glasses to your forehead until your nose has healed.
Also, avoid exposing your skin to the sun for two to three months after surgery. Too much sun may cause permanent irregular discoloration in the skin of your nose.
Some temporary swelling, black-and-blue discoloration of your eyelids and numbness can occur for two to three weeks after nasal surgery. Rarely, this may last up to six months, and subtle swelling may take a year to resolve entirely. Ice packs or cold compresses can help reduce swelling and discoloration around your eyes.
Because of the slow healing process, you might not see the final results of your surgery for up to a year.
Here are a couple of good sites. Good luck with the surgery.

Question: Has anyone had a nose job?
Is it really painful? Did you have an open or closed rhinoplasty? How long did it take to recover? Were you happy with the results? All answers appreciated!
Answer: closed rhinoplasty
this is my 2 week anniversary, exactly
for about 5 days after i was immobilized and i stayed in a room with curtains, very dark, and very close to a bathroom
the packing came out of my nose the day after the surgery
im not gonna lie, this is the most pain you will feel during the whole process
a week later, my nose cast was taken off, stitches out, and inner splints out.
two weeks later, my nose is as beautiful as ever, healthy, and still healing
i cant hit it, do extreme physical activity, but i can travel and i have to limit my sun exposure.
my nose is peeling from the sun i did get, and i have to do painful but necessary pressing exercises with my hands on the nose bone
a very innovative procedure, and if done correctly, you will wonder why you ever waited
you'll be happy with the results.
i know i am.
