Antifungal
Any agent that is effective against fungi or yeast
Question: What is the best working antifungal cream that is over the counter? I have a fungal infestation on my chest. It is slowly trying to move to my face. Used athletes foot antifungal cremes and they work to a degree but the problem is not diminishing. Which brand will actually do the job it is made to do?
Answer: If anti fungal creams don't work for suspected skin lesions then your diagnosis may be wrong. It may be some other skin lesion rather than fungal infection. It is better to have a check up with a dermatologist for confirmation of the diagnosis.
You can try lamisil cream (terbinafine) which is very good but slightly more expensive. Some fungal infections need oral tablets which should only be taken under doctor's supervision.
Creams should be continued for at least 2-3 weeks for complete cure. It is better to continue the cream for at least another week after the lesions have completely disappeared. Otherwise it may recur.
By the way check your blood sugar if you have not checked it. If you are diabetic make sure it is well controlled. Uncontrolled diabetics have more chance of fungal infections.
Question: What will happen if I use antifungal cream but have not fungi? I may have ringworm.
It is fairly big, in a shape of a circle; but not a perfect circle.
Could simply be an allergic reaction.
It is fading away after only 9 days.
It is on my neck, I never touch it.
Has not spread.
I have no health insurance.
Got this antifungal cream (Clotrimazole) from Walgreens.
What will happen if I use this cream but have no ringworm?
Answer: Nothing will happen if it's not ringworm. It won't hurt you but if you do have it then you will notice a difference in a day or two. Use the cream just to be safe. Use it twice a day for 2 weeks...even if it has gone away because if you don't it will come back.
Question: How long are antifungal paint fumes harmful? My landlord wants to paint a large window frame in my baby's room with antifungal paint. (The window frame is mildewy--I'm sure it's not mold because I am allergic and it hasn't caused me any problems.) Certainly want to cooperate with the effort (he's trying to show the place so he can rent it when we leave), but I don't want to expose my children (baby age 2 months, child age 2) to the fumes. How long do we need to be out of the apartment?
Thanks!
Answer: If he is using oil base paint = 1 1/2 days windows open while drying
If he is using late paint = 6 hours keep the windows open while drying
Put a fan in the room to move the air.
Question: Is it dangerous to stop halfway through using an antifungal cream? Just wondering because I know that if you're on a course of antibiotics, and stop halfway through, it kills off the weaker microbes and leaves the more resistant ones to spread, putting you in a worse position if anything. Does antifungal cream (used to treat thrush, athletes foot, etc) work in the same way?
Answer: yes, but it is not as severe to a degree as with bacteria, it takes repeating quiting with anti fungal drugs to stop working on fungus, they are slow to adapt to anti fungal medication.
Question: Can I use Lotrimin antifungal cream on my childrens scalp? My kids 4 and 7 has a dry patch on their heads my daughter has it a little worst. A doctor suggested Lotrimin antifungal cream for my son. (At the time my daughter did not have it) when I read the directions for Lotrimin it states not effective on scalp or nail. Any suggestions?
Answer: Usually dry, scaly patches of skin on the scalp are more eczema / seborrhea related. Fungal infections of the scalp typically cause hair loss and a bald spot at the site of the infection. A doctor can do a scraping of the skin flakes and have them analyzed for fungal organisms, or look at the rash under a Wood's light (blacklight).
An antifungal may work if you definitely know it's fungal, but Lotrimin is a bit weak. Over-counter Lamisil is best. But if it's seborrheic in nature, you'd be better off trying Selsun Blue or Denorex shampoo on it.
Apply some shampoo directly on the affected area (may use a q-tip), rub in gently right on the rash (don't suds it up), leave for 10 minutes, then rinse. Do this once or twice a day and see it that helps.
There are some stronger solutions available by prescription, such as Synalar (a hydrocortisone solution) that can be used if the Selsun doesn't quite get rid of it.
Question: What happens if you take antifungal tablets and don't need them? What happens if you take antifungal tablets and don't need them?
Answer: Probably not a whole lot. You most likely won't have any fungal problems during that time.

Question: My niece has fungal infection on her face? What antifungal cream can we use on her? My one-year old niece has a ring-worm-like infection on her face. Is there a safe antifungal cream we can use on her? I know a number of antifungal creams but I'm not sure if it's safe for a one year old.

Question: Can I use laxatives if I am using antifungal medication? I plan on taking prune laxatives to drop a few pounds, but I am currently using econozole cream (antifungal), using a bleaching cream on my elbow area, and using differin for my acne. Would the prune laxatives have a negative effect on me if I am taking those medications. They have instructions in spanish about what not to use with them, but I don't know spanish well enough to understand them. Can someone tell me if I should not combine them. I work at a doctors office, I asked them, but they had no idea either, lol, go figure!
Answer: There's no reason you can't use laxatives in relation to creams you are using. However, taking laxatives is a dumb way to lose weight. All you are doing is getting rid of fluid and electrolytes. Why not exercize a bit more each day, eat fruits, veggies, pure proteins and whole grains, and get rid of junk food like soda, sugary stuff and white foods?? Eating more healthy would also help your overall health as related to your fungal infection and acne. A high body sugar fosters fungal infections and doesn't help acne.
It sounds as though you are trying to get yourself into good, improved shape. Why not do it the right way rather than using methods that are simply temporary and unhealthy?
Question: What are some antifungal herbs I can take to clear up my skin infection? I have tinea versicolor. I've tried several different things, but they haven't worked for me. I can't see a doctor right now, and I've heard of herbs that often do the trick, but I need a little guidance. Any help would be appreciated.
By the way, I understand that natural does not always equal safe, so I will be sure to do plenty of research before purchasing and trying any herbs or supplements. Thanks!
Answer: I agree with jaye... coconut oil soap , sulfur soap and tea tree oil are great, i get my Kirk's coconut oil soap from iherb.com. you can go to retailmenot and get a 5 off 5 coupon so just in case you don't like the soap the only thing u lose is paying for shipping.
I also use the pure oil on my skin. be careful with the sulfur though, a lot of people are allergic to it
have you tried brags apple cider vinegar or oil of oregano?
also have you tried eating a table spoon of sauerkraut a day? read up on that.
Question: What are the best antifungal essential oils? I want to make a recipe for an athlete's foot foot spray/lotion. I would be using vinegar as a base.

Question: What the best antifungal cream for ringworm? I don't know how much I managed to get ringworm on my inner thighs. I even got a ring in my belly botton it's kinda funny. But yeah what's the best/fastest treatment for ringworm? They don't itch too bad but they unsightly.
Answer: Treatment of Ringworm
1. If infection is suspected, it is important to see a doctor.
2. Get the right medicine. Ringworm on the scalp requires a prescription oral anti fungal medication. Ringworm on the feet and body may be treatable with over-the-counter creams containing anti fungal ingredients (such as those used to treat athlete's foot or jock itch--eg., clotrimazole). Ringworm is a fungus that is in small, spreading rings (thus fungicides work.
3. If no improvement, seek further medical advice. If following the directions on the product yields no improvement after the usual 2-4 weeks, go to a dermatologist.
SURE HOPE THIS HELPED
Question: How expensive are most antifungal and antiviral medicines? It's part of my pharmacology homework. I know some are sold OTC and don't cost much, but I'm curious as to how much prescription treatments cost, such as fluconazole, valacyclovir, and rimantadine.
Answer: Athlete's foot medicine is relatively cheap. Anti fungal cream for toenail fungus is pretty expensive (and doesn't work either) Anti virals such as Tamiflu are probably pretty expensive without insurance. You can google each drug and get a website that sells that drug and see for yourself how much they all cost.
Question: Why is it difficult to design or develop antifungal than to devlop antibacterial? can somebody please explain to me on why does it occurs this way?
Answer: Both fungi and mammals are eukaryotes, while bacteria are prokaryotes. Because of this it is tougher to make something that will damage a fungi but not a mammal. Plus fungal and mammal cells are similar at the molecular level.
Question: What are some allergic reactions or side effects to Tinactin Antifungal liquid spray? I have red and pink bumps forming on all of my left foot
toes and my foot is swelling.
Answer: Side effects include itching, irritation, contact dermatitis, and stinging. Contact dermatitis is an allergic reaction, which can produce a rash with redness and bumps. If you are concerned, then discuss this with your doctor. Good luck.
Question: What is a good wash that I can irrigate my sinuses with that has antifungal properties? It can have antimicrobial properties also but I really need the anitfungal properties. I don't mind making it if I need too.
I am looking for nasal irrigation information. What works?
Answer: Salt water--kills both bacteria and fungus.
Vinegar kills both also, but I've never used it to wash inside my nose.
What I use is a mouthwash (Cepecol) in a nasal spray bottle and it is mixed with some saline solution. It still stings a little, but not bad, it was too strong at full strength.
Live well and do good
Question: Is savlon antiseptic solution antifungal? How can it be used for infected clothes? I want to disinfect clothes by using savlon solution, can I? If not what can I do instead?
Answer: If you use Savlon, you'll end up staining your clothes. Try sodium hydrochoride -Javel- instead (don't use it on coloured clothes) or else use disinfectant that do not contain javel
Question: Can regular antifungal like Econazole be used to treat rashes on the areola? the itchiness get more intense after application. is it common?
Answer: It's only going to help if it's a fungal infection and I dout it is. Usually fungal infections occur in wet places ie: feet because you sweat, under flaps of skin that don't get adequate air. You should try hydrocortizone cream and try that. That will probably cure it right up but it if doesn't try taking a vinager bath, this kills bacteria. 1/4 cup to your bath water and soak for 15 mins or so or you could just spritz it on the area. 2 tbls spoons with 16 oz of water. Hope this helps.
Question: What kind of antifungal should I use for my baby's yeast infection? My baby has a little start of a yeast infection in her vaginal area and in the accompanying folds and creases. What kind of anti-fungal should I use? The dr said "lotrimin" but I wonder if she meant gyne-lotrimin, or if it matters....
Answer: Lotrimin and gyne-lotrimin are the same thing. Different packaging. If it is marketed for women, there is a drastic price increase.
The fungus that causes a yeast infection is the same fungus that causes athele's foot.
Make sure to wash all of her bedding on hot, and her towels and your towels. Yeast spores live in damp places, and isn't easy to kill.
Question: Is hydrogen peroxide an antifungal? Let's say I want to get rid of some mildew or mold in the caulking around my bathtub. Will hydrogen peroxide kill it?
Answer: Yes Hydrogen peroxide is an antifungal, it is also an antibacterial. It is not very good for caulking as it does not penetrate well. The best solution is the pull the caulking, scrape, dry, and recaulk.
