Question: How do I start an ambulatory/DME service in the state of Texas? I am looking into starting an ambulatory business and also a durable medical equipment company. I really don't know where to start. I also need to know what type of consultants there are out there and how much the start up costs will be?
Answer: Your best source of consulting to help you get started is actually a free source. Contact your local SCORE Office. SCORE is the Service Corps of Retired Executives, a SBA-affiliated non-profit group of volunteer consultants and they can really get you on the right path to start. Go to http://www.score.org and go to the links that tell you how to contact your local chapter.
On another note, if you are a woman or minority - PLEASE get yourself designated with the State of Texas as a HUB (historically unterutilized business). I worked for a HMO in Texas and we were mandated to award contracts to HUB-certified DME providers and it was like pulling teeth to find them. Learn more about HUB certification in Texas here: http://www.tbpc.state.tx.us/communities/…
Good luck!

Question: Did gothic cathedrals have screens between choir and ambulatory? All gothic cathedrals and of newer styles have these huge and heavily decorated walls separating the choir and the ambulatory. Answer: I could not find anywhere that stated there were screens, so perhaps they were added later.
Question: how do I find an Ambulatory Service Center in my area? According to health care blue book, I can get far better prices at an Ambulatory Service Center (ASC) than at a hospital. AND, the ASC will give me a price ahead of time and guarantee that price. How do I find an ASC in my area? I can't find a directory on Google, Yahoo or in the Yellow pages. Someone must hold a master list that's available to the public, right?
Answer: There are few ways to quickly find ASCs in your area.
The first is to simply search "Ambulatory Surgery Center" and the name of your town or city in google - or just try "surgery center" + name of the town or city. You should get several hits including a google map entry. ASCs typically specialize in different types of procedures (cosmetic, orthopedic, endoscopy, etc.) so you may have to review a few sites to find a match for your need.
Second, you can use the search function at the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care http://www.aaahc.org/eweb/dynamicpage.aspx?site=aaahc_site&webcode=find_orgs
Third, you can try this site: http://www.wheretofindcare.com/How-to-Pick-an-Ambulatory-Surgical-Center.aspx.
Fourth, you can go to the websites of some of the larger surgery center companies (Healthmark Partners, Amsurg, Surgical Care Affiliates, Symbion and others) and search for locations near you.
Hope this helps.

Question: What does a holter/ambulatory montior diagnose besides arrythmia disruption? I'm wearing one right now for 24 hours. Just wonder if an EKG diagnoses different stuff, or if this thing covers most of the main concerns of the heart.

Question: How do ambulatory services get funded? I just wanted to know how the services provided by ambulance get funded. I am not sure if it is through the hospital, private businesses or what. Thanks!
Answer: Many ambulance services are private businesses. They charge either the person who is transported or their insurance company for the service. Some services are provided by the community and are tax supported, but these are fairly rare. Some ambulance services are provided by a hospital and the patient or insurance company is charged for the service. In my community, the ambulance service is community based but the patient is charged for the services. That's how the service is funded rather than by tax dollars.
