Question: Question for people who use AHA (alpha hydroxy acid)? Do you still do some type of MANUAL exfoliation? The chemical is supposed to exfoliate the top layer of skin. Do you still have to scrub to feel smooth skin?
Answer: I would, but don't scrub too hard, scrub ur face after u wash ur skin, in gentle circular motions. I also exfoliate with baking soda, it works great, & is cheap. I do this once or twice a week. I take my usual skin cleanser & add a sprinkle of baking soda, until it turns into a paste. then I wash & rinse my face thoroughly, rinsing with cool water. Ur skin may be a bit red for a few minutes, but it will go away, & ur skin will be smooth & soft.
Question: When using AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), is SPF 15 enough for sun protection or should I use SPF 30?
Answer: Make sure you use the acids at night - not in the morning before you go out.
Alpha acids and the sun are not friends.
You can get AHA from lemons, pineapple, oranges...
Be safe - 30
Question: Is AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) carsinogenic?
Answer: No, it's not.
Side Effects of Alpha Hydroxy Acids
The two major side effects of alpha hydroxy acids are irritation and sun sensitivity. Symptoms of irritation include redness, burning, itching, pain, and possibly scarring. People with darker colored skin are at a higher risk of scarring pigment changes with alpha hydroxy acids. The use of alpha hydroxy acids can increase sun sensitivity by 50% causing an interesting dilemma. It appears that alpha hydroxy acids may be able to reverse some of the damage caused by photoaging, but at the same time they make the skin more susceptible to photoaging. It is clear that anyone using alpha hydroxy acids must use a good sunscreen that contains UVA and UVB protection.
FDA Guidelines on Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Because of concerns over the side effects of alpha hydroxy acids, the FDA in 1997 announced that alpha hydroxy acids are safe for use by consumers with the following guidelines:
* The AHA concentration is 10% or less
* The final product has a pH of 3.5 or higher
* The final product must have an effective sunscreen in the formulation or warn people to use sunscreen products
Question: Skin care - Alpha Hydroxy acid? I've been told to pick up a skin cream with alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) to use daily to help keep my skin smooth.
It's a pretty daunting task when I took a look at all the creams in the store.
Does anyone know of a quality national brand that would meed my needs?
Thank you
Answer: Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) have been shown to clear pores and remove dead skin, resulting in smoother, moister skin. The best AHA skin-care products are glycolic acid and lactic acid. AHA increases sun sensitivity, so sun protection is an absolute necessity if you're using an AHA product.
Try Neutrogena:
Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Face Lotion ( $10/2.5 ounces) contains 8% alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and it’s available in an SPF 15 formula, although this version doesn't have any UVA protecting ingredients like avobenzone or titanium dioxide. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion makes it into the top-ten facial moisturizers based on consumer surveys at iVillage.com

Question: what are the best over the counter AHA creams? i have back acne, and i have been told that Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) works well and removes back acne...i just need to know if you have any over the counter creams creams with AHA in them?

Question: where can I find alpha hydroxy acid? I have these bumps on my arms and I went to the derm. they told me to use something with alpha hydroxy acid or by itself, I was wondering where I can get it at or if there is something I can get at walmart that has AHA in it.
Answer: you can not get THAT acid in wall mart.
dont try to use directly from the container you may burn your skin
Question: Any good alpha hydroxy acid lotions? I have been favoring Alpha Hydroxy Lotions vs. regular lotions. And i've been using Eucerin Smoothing Essentials but it causes me to break out all over my body. Any good AHA Lotion recommendations?
Answer: The best aha to use is glycolic acid because glycolic is from sugar cane which is the smallest modclue so its the best for the skin and easier penetration. Stay away from citrus ahas because they are the cheapest and more popular. If you want to use the best aha lotions and creams check out neostarta they can be purchase either in a drugstore or you might need a prescription to get it if your in the states. Glycolic acid is also great on the face to exfoliate the old dull skin cells and to reveal new brighter soft younger looking skin. It also evens out skin tone and great if you have any ingrown hairs on the body.
Question: Does Alpha Hydroxy make you age faster? I understand that alpha hyroxy acids actually reduce wrinkles by peeling off the top layer of skin cells. However, someone told me once that we only produce so many of these skin layers in our life and the more often we peel them off, the faster we age. Therefore, using AHA's ages you faster. I cannot confirm this in my research online - does anyone know if this is true?
Answer: yes in my experience can be in some point true Ive use Alpha hydroxy face creams it can be very harsh on skin it can make it very dry and sensitive to the sun also it makes skin very thin so you age faster I notice on first week so I thrown it away I suggest to try another thing for your face it some point can burn like hell just forget about this product .
Question: Does Alpha Hydrox AHA 12% lotion work on deep acne scars? I have deep indented acne scars...I had microderabrasion on my skin and it didnt help. Laser surgery is very expensive with dangerous side effects. Would using Alpha Hydroxy work ??? Please help :((
Answer: nothing that deep can be fixed without surgrey of a kind! What it does do is lighten the effect of deep scars ... sorry!
Question: Are you supposed to use alpha hydroxy cleanser and moisturizer at the same time? I am 41 and the weather has been playing havoc with my skin. In my younger days, I was prone to breakouts and still get the occasional zit. I also have sensitive skin on my face. I have been using Kiss My Face, aloe and olive oil moisturizer with alpha hydroxy acid. Feels good but doesn't really keep my skin from flaking. The eyebrow dandruff is the worst! So tonight I was in Walmart, and I saw Equate version of Olay Regenerist cleanser, a non-foaming cleanser with other acidic type exfoliants and very fine granules in it and I got some. I applied the cleanser as directed and massaged my face gently with a washcloth and then rinsed, and then followed with the moisturizer. There was a bit of a sting, but now my skin feels nice and soft without a flake in sight!
My questions are:
1. Should I use the two together?
2. Could either one or both together be doing some damage that I wouldn't recognize? My experience with AHA's is rather limited. (and what are the warning signs of a problem?)
and
3. Is there anything else I can try in addition to or instead of these products that will give me clean and soft skin.
Any and all help is appreciated!
Answer: okay this is the best answer you will get, no need for thanks.
if you google half the ingredients in the products you will see they are dangerous!(heres one for you it appears in most phenoxyethanol) or any parabens or phthalates
this goes for 100% of all the cosmetics you will find in the supermarket.
my advice and this is for everyone; buy organic unfiltered apple cider vinagar, dilute it 50/50 with filtered or bottled water, put in a spray bottle, when showering apply this spray to your whole body head to toe, apply it to cotton wool and wip the areas giving you most trouble.
moisturize; use organic cold pressed olive oil.
your welcome.
i'm a black guy in his 30's who has spent his life using one product or anoth to combat dry/greasy skin..................i wish i'd known of the above years ago, money saved, health implications.............and now i look so young the only breakouts are when i gorge on chocolate :)

Question: does lemon juice do the same job as alpha hydroxy acid.? if i used lemon juice daily instead of aha peel once a week would i get the same results, as i have acne marks on my skin.
Answer: Lemon juice is a citric acid and belongs to the group of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) that slough off dead skin, promote elasticity of the skin, and encourage new skin cell growth. Lemon juice is one of few home remedies for acne that also works for scars. From my own experience, using lemon juice helped my scars disappear quickly and controlled my moderate acne. If you have dry skin do not use it! But if not try it, It does the same job as the peel maybe the results are not that fast but after about 2 weeks you will see improvements!
Good Luck!
Question: Anybody try this Alpha Hydroxy treatment from Acne.org? http://www.danielkern.com/product-p/aha-…
Is it worth it?
I use Neutrogena Healthy skin, but it gets a little greasy sometimes - the Acne.org has better reviews.
Answer: Yes, I used it. It really is a great product, but its SOOO expensive and extremely difficult to come by here in Ireland.
I just posted advice for someone else about acne. I will copy and paste it to this post now.
The topical advice given on acne.org can be used in conjunction with medication. If the AHA is too expensive, it can be dropped. Its not essential if the medication is doing the job. A regular oil free moisturizer would be fine.
I
Antibiotics- thrimotoprim, 200mg twice a day, and the birth control pill called dianette, which is specifically used for acne because it stops the skin glands producing excess oil. The antibiotics kill the acne producing bacteria.
You can only get these two medications from the doctor. Just go into your doctor and tell her/ him to write you out a prescription for those medications. They will hopefully be happy that they won't have to think of something!!If your acne is not severe, just ask for the dianette, because the thrimotoprim is strong, and can cause nausea, etc. Even ask for one 200mg per day on the prescription, depending on how bad your acne actually is.
Wash you face twice a day with an OIL FREE wash, preferably with scrub beads in it.
Also buy a cream with Benzoyl peroxide in it. Put this on after you wash your face at night around oily prone areas. When it dries put an oil free moisturiser on.
I am from Ireland, so the name of the drugs might be different in the US. They are usually under different names for some reason. Just google them and you should get the different names for them.
Good luck.
Question: will these combinations help in fading my stretch marks? I will use apricot scrub daily after bath then massage cocoa butter in the morning then apply alpha hydroxy acid cream (aha cream) in the evening. Take vitamin c everyday and drink lots of water.
Will these have great result to improve my stretch marks? pls. help me.
Answer: Taking skin vitamins will help, or so I've heard. I use cocoa butter and it seemed to help on the ones I had from when I was really fat. I tan (but, I don't recommend it, skin cancer is never fun) and it hides them really well.
Also, there is a skin cream I heard of called Trilastin that supposedly works really well.
